Runtime Error in Adobe Reader 8.1.2

When attempting to open a PDF document in Adobe Reader 8.1.2, get the following error;
Runtime Error!
Program: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 8.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the application. I have attempted the fixes I found online, but with no success. I have installed Version 9.0 it resolved the error. however we are not useing version 9.0 yet.
The only other change has been we have recently upgrade to Microsoft Office 2007.
I am with the help desk at womack Army Medical center. Does anyon eknow of a fix for this issue?

@Ryan: Are you working for Bayer? We have the same problem here at Bayer since users personal folders are mapped to drive M:.
It is a result of the preinstallation procedure "cost initialize/cost finalize" windows installer does. If users My Documents or My Pictures folders are redirected through registry HKU\...\UserShellFolders\... and the drive is not available, cost finalize will fail to check available disk space on the missing drive.
If you can use a script to execute the installer, first check for drive M: and if not available, substitute e.g. C:\Temp to M: (subst M: C:\Temp), then execute the installer and when finished, delete substituted drive by "subst M: /D".

  • Runtime error with Adobe Reader 9.x and IE

I'm getting a runtime error with any adobe reader 9.x and Internet Explorer whenever a .pdf is being viewed online.  It will pull the .pdf up and then pop up a runtime error window and close it down completely.  It is only happening with individuals that have redirected app data folders and profiles.  I have all machines running Windows XP sp3 and IE8.  I know, I know, I can always go to Firefox or Chrome, but IE is easily managed with group policy lockdowns.  I can unintall reader 9.x and then reinstall 8.x and it works perfectly.  The only problem with that is that I have to go do every machine and physically uninstall since I buildt the windows xp installer package with it.  Does anyone know a workaround or if adobe is going to get it fixed pretty soon?

I am experiencing exactly the same problems on one of two identical machines after something happened in the registry.
The first problem that appered was an error 1325 "Favorites is not a valid short name".
I did find the registry key involved (%userprofile%\Favorites) and fixed it.
So now the the next one: yours.
I think the solution can be found in the list of registry keys that Adobe Reader is accessing.
btw Eusing registry cleaner did not find this key to be in error.
Problem is that the Reader does not ask for an alternative location after stumbling on the key.
Who can gnerate a list of keys accessed?

  • I keep getting the same error message:  "Runtime Error" for adobe reader

    Hi,
I keep getting a 'Runtime Error' message stating the following:  "This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.  Please contact the applications server team for more information".  It then closes the attachment and shuts down the email program.  The email program that is being used is outlook express, I have tried removing Adobe and reinstalling it - with the same issue.  I have tried downloading earlier additions with the same issue.
Any advice in relation to this issue would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Janet

You can go to control panel, add/delete programs and delete Quick time. Then download & install the stand alone version of Quicktime.

Can't open PDFs, Initially received runtime error, updated Reader - new error Adobe Reader has stopped working, uninstalled re-installed same error message Adobe Reader has stopped working

Assuming that you are in Win (which you haven't said), you can try using this tool to first remove all traces of previous versions of Reader:
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
Then, download the full offline Reader installer from
    http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
and run it immediately after restarting your computer.

  • How do I deal with a Runtime Error on Adobe Acrobat 9.5?

How do I deal with a Runtime Error on Adobe Acrobat 9.5? The instructions say to contact the support team but I have to pay in order to do so.

What operating system and what is the statement of the error. Typically you would first run a repair on Acrobat from the help menu (or in Windows you can do that from the Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs).

  • I am having a problem opening pdf document.  I get error message: "Adobe Reader has stopped working"

I am having a problem opening pdf document.  I get error message: "Adobe Reader has stopped working" then I get Windows is looking on line for a solution, but then my document closes. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Reader XI, rebooted my computer but this did not help.  I get the same message. What to do?

Can you open Reader by itself?  If so, check if disabling Protected Mode improves the situation [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

  • PDF won't open on Mac with Adobe Reader Error message:Adobe Reader could not open

I have Adobe Reader 10.1.3 for Mac, (10.7.3) and am having problems opening pdfs.  I get an error message: Adobe Reader could not open file name.pdf because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded). The files are not from emails, but are from websites, government sites, professional organizations etc.)  Help! Adobe is no help!

Manually download the files to your computer (right-click on the url). When the file is downloaded to your computer do you get the same message when you try to open in Reader through the File->Open menu? What about when you open the file in Mac's Preview application?

  • Adobe reader 11 installation fails. error message: there was an error installing adobe reader. adobe

Adobe reader 11 installation fails. error message: there was an error installing adobe reader. adobe reader installation error. null. tried using adobe cleaning  tool. using XP sp3. seems that adobe 11 is not completely uninstalling. this is because when adobe reader  11 is removed  from add/remove program. when pc is rebooted, adobe reader 11 entry comes back but it is  like false entry as no size given. please help to succesfully install Adobe Reader 11.  also tried:
    1. uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled  2. installed from different locations  3. removed adobe key from
local machine and tried to install

Seriously, I do not understand what is going on - I have never seen this before!
The MSI installers are usually used in corporate environments to roll out installs on multiple machines.  However, you can use it like a normal (EXE) installer; it will just go through fewer steps than the EXE.  Not sure if it will improve the situation, but it's worth a try.
Another thing to try is to uninstall these remaining entries using Microsoft Fixit: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall - also no guarantee, but also worth trying.

  • "out of memeory" error with Adobe Reader x & IE8

    Hello,
Getting an "out of memory" error with Adobe Reader X & IE8. This is a locked down bank environment so upgrading to a higher version of Adobe is out of the question.
I looked around on the web and noticed that many people are experiencing this "out of memory error" but no fix has been provided.
    Can you help?

Thanks for the reply and suggestion - unfortunately, I get this error when I open Adobe Reader X itself in addition to launching a pdf within IE9 (my OS is Win7x64 Ultimate).  I can launch Adobe Reader X, but when I open any kind of PDF file (local copy, remote, web, etc...) the error dialog box pops up.  Everything seems functional with Reader, it's just a frustrating (er, irritating!) thing!  I think after the weekend I will 'give up' and remove the Reader X and go back to my 'old' (but functioning!) Reader - thanks for the comment and suggestion tho!

  • Any one else have Microsoft C++ runtime error in Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 (non cloud version)

I have been using Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 for 9 months successfully with no issues.  Last night, for no reason, it stopped working , giving me a Microsoft C++ runtime error.  I have tried every trouble shooting suggestion, including resetting the computer, deleting recent updates, disk cleanup, etc.  I finally un installed the program, and when I attempted to re-install, it got almost to the end of the install, and then I get a message " The installation process encountered an error using Shared Technologies".   Can anyone help me?  Technical support for store bought copies of this program is non existant.  It took me 2 hours to find a  phone number that works and that was only for cloud users, and the only support they offer is a chat room , which disappeard from my screen this morning, and is no being offered at least today.   I must have this program for my photography classes I take 2 x a week.  Please help!

Moving this discussion to the Photoshop Elements forum.

  • C++ Runtime Error on Adobe Acrobat 9 Startup

The error received upon starting up Adobe Acrobat 9.0 is a Visual C++ Runtime error. the exact message is:
    Runtime Error!
    Program: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\Acrobat\Acrobat.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.
This began when Intuit Quickbooks 2009 was installed onto the system. Quickbooks was installed and attempted to be activated several times all of which ended in failure (retail purchased software) and the activation for the software was eventually locked out by the vendor.
This is when it was noticed that Acrobat was no longer functioning, and upon startup of the program it gives the above error message, which it does after displaying the acrobat window, but before it finishes loading.
Both repairing the installation of Acrobat and a complete Uninstallation/registry cleaning(with CCleaner)/Reinstallation was unsuccessful in fixing this issue. The error-fix documented in knowledgebase article kb404597 (http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=kb404597&sliceId=2) was also unsucessful in solving this issue.
Having looked into the windows event viewer, the error does produce and entry as follows:
    Description:
Faulting application Acrobat.exe, version 9.0.0.332, time stamp 0x4850eb76, faulting module scrchpg.dll, version 7.0.1.325, time stamp 0x47ac76e7, exception code 0x40000015, fault offset 0x00010329, process id 0x3608, application start time 0x01c9a04e7e0e994f.
