Runtime Licence Question

Hello,
I have a question relates to runtime licence.
I make a installer that includes "Labview runtime engine" and "NI-VISA runtime" with my application.
If I want to sell this installer to my customer, do I need to get any license else?

The same question was asked earlier today.

  • DSC Run-Time Licence Questions

    Hello,
I have recently discovered that LabView Developers Suite that I thougt was a complete development & deployment platform is not:
Since I had chosen to use DSC Modbus funcitonality, I need the DSC Runtime as well, apprantly both on my development system, and on the PC where the system will be deployed.
As bad as this is, I find it more frustrating to find out how these licences must be handled.
Our customer is a Precast Concrete Production plant that is not accustomed to handling software installation and licence issues.
Further, the PC is of course not online to the internet: This is a rough production environment.
I will build a complete installation package so that that customer can install the complete software onto the PC in a few easy steps.
I thougt LabView was up to this task, but I am now wondering if this is the case.
    My questions are:
Must the DSC Runtime Licence be activated on the client's PC?
If yes, how is the licence activated when the PC has no internet connection?
PCs quite frequently die in these rough environments, and the client must be able to quickly install my software package onto a new PC to keep the production running!
Can the client reinstall my software package on a new PC with no DSC Runtime licence hassle?
What are the exact steps to do this?
    Suggestions:
I strongly feel that NI should put up information about the fact that a DSC runtime is needed and links that explain these Licence issues on the following page:
    http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/1012
The page above should also contain a link to this page: http://www.ni.com/labview/labviewdsc/faq.htm
Like it is now, developers are waiting valuable time to find answers to thse questions (at least we did).

    Hi,
If you simply need to use ModBus, here is a free library for LabVIEW: http://sine.ni.com/nips/cds/view/p/lang/en/nid/201711
    To your questions:
Must the DSC Runtime Licence be activated on the client's PC? Yes
If yes, how is the licence activated when the PC has no internet connection? You can call your local NI Office, give them the Serial Number and the Computer ID (could be found in the license manager) and activate it per hand.
PCs quite frequently die in these rough environments, and the client must be able to quickly install my software package onto a new PC to keep the production running! They can again call NI with the new computer ID
It is not an option to start rewriting code to use the Modbus library directly at this time. We use DSC to bind Shared Variables to Modbus addresses.
So NI is open 24  * 7 to support this and other 24 * 7 industries with new Runtime Licenses when a Control System PC / RT Module breaks down?
This does not look good for using DSC functionality in this industry. The potential client base here, is quite large: > 130 factories throuhtout Europe.
Why doesn't NI simply let users run 30 days on a temporary DSC Runtime License the way you do it for all other NI products?
    a) This way we could test the software.
    b) Clients could reinstall and have 30 days to get help to activate the DSC Runtime License.
Does not look like NI is interested in supporting 24 * 7 industries at all !
    Better suggestions from NI?

  • Crystal Reports for Visual Studio 2010 runtime LICENCE

I want to welcome everyone. It's my first post on this forum.
I want to provide my Windows Form application to a client. This application was written in VS 2010 and it uses SAP Crystal Reports for generating simple report.
I've read [Crystal Reports Licensing Explained|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/boc/index?rid=/library/uuid/10cd9e15-120d-2c10-3fb5-be299000b6b7&utm_source=crvs2010&utm_medium=lp&utm_campaign=licensing_explained] pdf and I've learnt that in my case redistribution of software that embeds the Crystal Reports runtime engine is free.
    My question is:
Is there something else I must include in my application package for instance a licence file? Or maybe I just have to include SAP CR runtime or ask user to download it from the SAP web site and that's it?
    Marcin

    Hello Marcin,
    Welcome.
Please note that whenever you distribute your application (which uses Crystal reports) to others who may not have Crystal designer product, you need to provide the runtimes along with the application. The runtimes provide the necessary dlls in the machine for running Crystal inside the app.
You can use an exe to install the CR runtimes and then deploy your app. OR you can include the msm files and create a deployment package.
You will get the runtimes for CR4VS2010 [here|/people/coy.yonce/blog/2010/11/12/crystal-reports-for-visual-studio-2010-production-release-now-availableCystlR%2528SAPWeblogs%253ACrystal+Reports%2529].

  • Windows 8.1 Pro - Licencing Question

I am about to buy a new laptop.  I also intend to buy a full retail copy of Windows 8 Pro so that I can install (and reinstall) windows as required without having to endure the manufacturer's "extras".  I will therefore effectively be
discarding the OEM licence of Windows 8.1 Pro that comes with the laptop - I will boot the machine straight into the installation media if that makes a difference to the scenarios below.
    My questions are as follows:
I would like to install my full Retail copy of Win8 into two separate hard drive partitions on the
same computer.  Let's call the partitions "Work" and "Play", the intention is to separate any games I install away from my work config (and also stop my work machine from getting slowed down waiting for Steam).  Obviously,
only one of the installations could possibly be active at one time and the hardware would be identical.  Would Microsoft expect me to buy two licences for this or can I use the same key twice?  (I know that the OEM key cannot be used on a fresh install).
Is it legal to install my retail copy of Win8 into a Virtual Machine on the laptop running the same retail copy?  The VM will only ever be used on the laptop that is running the licensed copy of Windows.
    Thanks in anticipation.

    Hi,
According to Windows 8.1 license terms:
Under our license, we grant you the right to install and run that one copy on one computer (the licensed computer), for use by one person at a time, but only if you comply with all the terms of this agreement. Typically, this means you can install one
copy of the software on a personal computer and then you can use the software on that computer.
It's not allowed to use one personal license at two system at the same time.
For more questions, you can check Windows license terms in your computer:
    System\About Windows\Microsoft Software License Terms
Also you can access the link below to read the license:

  • Solaris 8 Intel - Licence question

    Hi there,
My name is Long Phan from Australia. I recently got Sun Solaris 8 from SUN (USA) binary free licence (?!). I tried to install following things:
    * Install SUN OS (Intel) - OK!
    * Applied Security & Patches - OK!
    * Setup SAMBA - OK!
    * Setup Webmin - OK!
    * Setup DNS - OK!
then when I tried to setup WEB (ver 2.0.40) after reboot. I CAN'T:
    * ping
    * nslookup
    * Surf the AnswerBook2
    * Share files (SAMBA) from my Windows pc
I tried to re-install couple of times but I GOT the same problem. Please anybody helps me with this; I have following questions:
    * Do I need any licence for my SUN Solaris 8 (Intel) before I can setup anything else?
    * If I do then where I can get it?
    * If it's not the case then what did I do wrong?? I can ping, copy files from Windows (SAMBA), surf the AnswerBook 2 from my Windows, nslookup zone BUT when reboot I CAN'T DO anything (ping, nslookup, suft the AnswerBook 2)
    Please helps & thanks

    Hi!
I also had the same exact problem during the install. The only way that I could procede was to tell it that I didn't want to install networking. Now when I boot, it tries to load the elx0 driver (for my 3Com 3c509b) and brings the following message, "SIOCSLIFFFLAGS cannot assigm requested address." I have checked the Irq/IO setting in the hardware configuration agent and everything seems to be correct. To top it all off, once I logon if I enter "ifconfig elx0 192.168.1.2 up" then everything works fine. I tried to forceload the elx0 module in /etc/system to see if the module just wasn't loaded early enough but this did not help. Any ideas of what else I should check?

  • Runtime Licensing Question

I apologize if this is not the right forum to ask this kind of question. I have searched the forum about licensing but the only hit I got was related EDW.
For a government agency, we are thinking about using OWB to design our mappings on a 9i development instance and deploying the runtime environment (along with the pl/sql packages generated for these mappings) on multiple schemas on different databases (currently 8.1.7) on different servers.
We would like to know what licenses are needed to allow this model? Is having a 9iDS license good enough, or do we need to buy OWB license separately? What about the runtime scenario?
    best regards,

Thanks a bunch Shauna. Since we already have iDS and enterprise licenses, it sounds like we can deploy these runtimes without any additional cost.
I have also placed calls to other people in our organization to talk with our account manager(s) to avoid any surprises down the road.
    Thanks again for your time.
PS: I think it is great that you folks are constantly monitoring these forums. That's a great service to us. Appreciated!

  • AutoVue for Agile PQM - Java Runtime Environment Question

    Greetings,
An end user is attempting to view/open attachments within Agile Product Quality Management (PQM); we use Agile PQM 9.3.1.
When clicking on an attachment file, a pop-up screen opens with a javascript alert, prompting the user with, "Please Install Java Runtime Environment." After clicking "OK", user is redirected to java download website. User downloads and installs the update.
After rebooting the machine, we attempt to access the attachment file again within PQM and receive the same error message, "Please Install Java..."
After installing the first java update, the user is now on the following java version:
    Java Plug-in 10.55.2.14
Using JRE version 1.7.0_55-b14 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
Do we need to install the second update to be able to view attachments within Agile PQM via AutoVue?
I can't test the java updates myself because there are some legacy Oracle apps that I won't be able to support if I update my java.
    Thanks in advance,
    William

You might want to post the question to the Agile forum
The popup you see seems to be tied to Agile code itself and not AutoVue
AutoVue will work on Java 7u55
But you are running Agile, so you will need to make sure the rest of the apps are confirmed with 7u55
You also need to review Java update guidelines, by default you will be always prompted to install the latest java update

  • Nexus 5500 Licencing question

I have Nexus 5596UP switch running ver 5.2.1, I recently added Layer 3 card to the swicthes, L3 cards by default comes with  LAN_BASE_SERVICES_PKG licence. According to Cisco web site, I need LAN_ENTERPRISE_SERVICES_PKG in order to use VRF lite..
However I was able to create many VRFs on the swicthe and they work very fine. I assume that could be the grace period for LAN_ENTERPRISE_SERVICES_PKG licence, but according to Cisco I will get a daily notification about the grace period, which I don't. Also looking to the licence usage, I don't see LAN_ENTERPRISE_SERVICES_PKG being used..
    N5K#sh license usage

    example
    interface vlan 123
    vrf member vrf1
    ip address 10.1.1.1/24
So my question, for these VRFs, do I really need LAN_ENTERPRISE_SERVICES_PKG? or what I have is enough?
    Thanks for your help

According to license description and as you noted, you need enterprise service license to do VRF, but if it is working without it, than I guess you don't need it.  Also check the the routing protocols you are going to be using.

  • Crystal XI Runtime Installer Question

    Post Author: kgmiller
    CA Forum: .NET
    Question:
Has anyone just created a VS2005 Setup Project that only includes the Crystal XI R2 2005 Merge Module and nothing else and had it install the Crystal Runtime?  Are there any issues I am not aware of with this approach?  Any information, experiences, suggestions would be appreciated.
    Background:
I have a situation where I will need to install the Crystal XI R2 runtime on many PCs that will be accessing a centrally managed Windows application.  The application software and Crystal Report files are only installed on the server and the PCs access them via a shortcut to the server.  The runtime needs to be on the PCs as well as the server.  I would like to avoid using the Windows Installer .msi file that comes with the product, for installing the runtime on the PCs, as it requires that the CD Key be entered during the install.  I would rather use the Merge Module where I can embed the CD Key creating a VS2005 Setup Project process.

    Hello,
please also see this link as we have documentation how the different deployment techniques actually work:

  • Runtime.availableProcessors() question...

So, i have a class that will take in Runnable objects, and send them to be processed when a processor opens.
So far, i have been dealing with a single-processor model. However, now i want to upgrade my code to be able
to handle multiple processors. These jobs will not step on each others toes, so they can run concurrently with
no problems. My question is: when i run the Runtime.availableProcessors() method, what does that number it
returns mean to me? Is it the number of processors available on the System in general, or the number of
processors available at the time of the call, to accept jobs? So, if i have 5 processes in the queue, and i have a 2
processor machine, i farm out the first 2 processes, and that method will return 0 until one of these processes
finishes? something tells me its not that easy.
any info given is very much appreciated. thanks

    BigDaddyLoveHandles wrote:
    But then it goes on:
This value may change during a particular invocation of the virtual machine. How could that be? Hot slotting more processors?Could be. I regularly work on machines (IBM System i) where it's possible to reassign processors from one system to another. And these machines run Java. I would expect the method to always return 2 on the Windows box I'm typing this on, but I would expect it could return different numbers at different times on the i's. If I cared about the question I might be interested in what it returns when a non-integral number of processors is assigned to the machine, but anyway I don't have a system where I can mess about with those assignments.

  • Licencing Questions

    Hi there,
My client is asking some awkward questions!  They have BW 3.1 and want to know:
    1.  When will BW3.1 cease to be supported by SAP.
    2.  When they bought their BW3.1 licence, did they automatically get SEM with that?  If not, would they get it if they upgraded to 3.5?  To Netweaver 2004/ 2004s?
    3.  Can they upgrade straight from 3.5 to Netweaver 2004/ 2004s?  Or must they go to 3.5 first?
Sorry guys, I'm just a techie - I can build cubes and queries, but haven't got a clue about these licence issues!
    Cheers,
    Tristan

Search 'Product Availability Matrix' on service.sap.com; it should point you to support period and other info for all releases of all SAP products.
BW doesn't contain SEM, SEM remains a separate product. From 3.5 onwards (I think), you do get the erstwhile BPS component of SEM in BW (rest - BCS,SRM,CPM are not included in BW, they remain with SEM). 3.5 does have BPS, and so does BI7.0 onwards (BW-BPS has changed quite a bit in 7.0, making it easier to use).
BW3.1 support ends on 31.12.2006. You can directly upgrade to nw04/nw04s from 3.1.

  • Office 365 general licence question

I am looking to provide a new service to a cluster of schools which will be separate to their every day work. This will be only for select users in about a dozen schools which will help with collaboration and communication for Head Teachers and the deputy
    head.
The school have piloted Office 365 Education A3 plan but the service I will provide is going to be through my own company.  My question is this.  Would I apply for a education licences or as it's a service my company is going to offer would I still
have to pay for an enterprise or pro licence?
    I hope that makes sense
    Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you need to talk to MS Partner Support, since you will be selling/reselling/onselling/upselling ?
Resellers and hosters, have different MS agreements (partner agreements).
The typical "Retail" or "Volume" products, can't be on-sold, I think.

  • Licencing question

My apologies if not posting this in the correct section, but couldn't see anywhere else that would suit.
We bought Crystal Reports Server from a reseller in Australia, and we are now wanting to increase our licence count.
I was wanting to know if I would be able to purchase the additional licences through the American SAP online store.
I have the question of compatibility of the licences bought through American site, and how we would link the extra licences to our support agreement with SAP also.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I'd call the toll-free number and ask, you should be able to find it on the online store site [http://www.sap.com/solutions/sapbusinessobjects/store/index.epx]

  • Windows 8 recovery and licence question

    Hi guys,
I have got an Lenovo G50-30 notebook and I've ordered recovery discs thru phone support line. I got 5 discs and I have issue with this recovery. On first disc I need to choose language and region and there is no polish language (notebook is bought in Poland and recovery was ordered thru polish support). I know that Windows lincence is limited to one language and here is my problem. Will recovery give me an option to choose polish as language for Windows?
PS. Notebook was originally with Windows 8, I updated it to 8.1 and got discs for 8.1, no 8. Thats good?

Yes definitely. On reading through your post when I got to "(One Touch recovery didn't work either, it'd blue screen)" my immediate guess was that you had a problem with memory.
How many sticks of memory are installed in the system, 1 or 2?  If you have two maybe you could test them individually to find out which one (or both) may be defective.

  • Runtime error -  question for experts

    hello  experts,
I was trying to debug a program for unicode compatibility, and when I finally thought I had finished it.
    This runtime error shows up
    "Error analysis                                                                                |
An exception occurred that is explained in detail below.
The exception, which is assigned to class 'CX_SY_READ_SRC_LINE_TOO_LONG', was
    not caught in
procedure "K_KKB_FIELDCAT_MERGE" "(FUNCTION)", nor was it propagated by a
    RAISING clause.
Since the caller of the procedure could not have anticipated that the
exception would occur, the current program is terminated.
The reason for the exception is:
There was an attempt to read program "ZPM04_UPDATE_INFOREC_FROM_PO" from the
    database.
The READ REPORT statement allows you to copy a program text into an
internal table. The occupied line length in the program text must not
exceed the width of the internal table.
The internal table "\FUNCTION=K_KKB_FIELDCAT_MERGE\DATA=L_ABAP_SOURCE[]" is 72
characters wide. The program line is
    |    78 characters wide."
because the error occured in standard SAP programs, I am at loss..
    Please give your suggestions.
    Goldie.

You need to Change the setting in the program ZPM04_UPDATE_INFOREC_FROM_PO, not in the program SAPLSBKH.
SAPLSBKH read the Report ZPM04_UPDATE_INFOREC_FROM_PO and it gets error because some lines in the ZPM04_UPDATE_INFOREC_FROM_PO are longer than 72 characters.
As suggested by other SDN members you have to follow this steps:
    Go to SE38.
    Enter ZPM04_UPDATE_INFOREC_FROM_PO and change.
    Utilities > Setting
In the Editor Tab, set the checkbox "Downword Compatilbe line Length (72)". You can find out this checkbox in the last section of the Editor tab.
    Press Enter.
In the Pop-Up, Say "YES" for the line breaks.
