Runtime modification of Business Rules

Hi Is there any place when client can modify Business Rules in runtime? I don't want to implement BR in code I want to make them dynamically.

You can use the SOA Composer to do the same..

Editing Business Rules at Runtime

Hi All,
I reviewed this doc http://edocs.bea.com/albsi/docs60/resources/ALBPM6.0_NewFeaturesOverview.pdf and wrote my first business rule in ALBPM. I use the rule to determine transition in my business process.
One of the benefits of business rules is allowing business analysts changing the rules at runtime. The business rule I created does not show up in my workspace. If I'm a business analyst and I want to change the rule, how can I do that? Do I have to open ALBPM designer/studio and change it there? If that is the case, I don't see how it is different from a developer changing it.
I'd like to get your thoughts on this, and if there is anything I can do to make the business rules easier accessible to the business folks.

Hi,
To allow end users to edit a business rule in the Workspace, in Studio:
1) add a Global activity in the process
2) right mouse click it -> "Main Task" -> click "Implementation type" and select "Edit Business Rules"
3) in the column on the right side, change the business rules you want the end user to edit from "No" to "Yes"
4) republish and deploy and log in as a user who is assigned the role where you added the Global activity (if the user was already logged in, log out and log back in).

I'm not sure what you did to create the rule you are running here. Did you try the Rules chapter of the 105 sample on the TP3 page? That one does work.
Once you have it working using the sample, try your exercise again and let us know what you did to create your rule. There are many permutations here and we want to know what doesn't work.

Business Rules Runtime Prompts

Hello,
in my planning application, i have a few business rules that cannot be linket do any dataform. Users must run them directly via "Tools->Business Rules" menu'.
These Business Rules have Runtime Prompt. User can fill them directly in the text field or navigate the outline using the "Select Member" icon.
1) Is there a way users can navigate the outline using Alias table? All members have aliases but i see only member names.
Using Administration Services i use limit to filter variable's members. Again, my outline navigation in "Select Member" icon in Planning is on a non sorted member list. 2) is there a way to avoid the behaviour?
Planning versione: 9.3.1.1.8 on windows server.

Hi,
If you need to arrange your outline in proper order you need to go to:
workspace navigate-> application library ->double click the application and you'll need to edit the application members.
right click the parent member->reorder children (select the proper order of members)
you need to deploy the applacation after you have done this. try this if it works

How to change business rule in the runtime

I create a business rule and add it in a BPEL process. After deployment, this process works fine.
How to modify the rule in run time? I mean I do not need to redeploy the process.

If you are using SOA suite 10g qhen you add a decision serivce to your BPEL process it doens;t use a pointer to the rules repository but actually makes a copy of the rules respository and deploys it locally within the BPEL process. Because of this any changes you make to your initial respository will not be seen because the delopyed process does not use the original version. You need to update the decision.dec file in your BPEL project and change the repository information to point to the original rules repository you want to use.
Once you have done this redeploy the BPEL process and your changes shoudl be reflected in your process.

Oracle Business Rule : Unable to modify the rule at runtime

I am developing simple Business rule using Oracle jdevelper 11g which displays a message based on two rules.
rule1 : If amount <= 100, displays the message "Less than or equal to 100"
rule2 : If amount >100 and amount less than 200 display the message "Between 100 and 200"
The above rule is created within the BPEL process which accepts a parameter. Once the BPEL project has been published, it has created a Dictionary with one ruleset having two rules mentioned above.
If I test the BPEL process through em console response is getting displayed based on the above rule.
Now I am trying to modify Rule2 through SOA Composer as below.
Rule2 : If amount >100 and amount less than 300 display the message "Between 100 and 300"
After editing and modifying the rule , the message is not getting updated properly in the properties window. If I save and commit the rule, BPEL process is giving the error
If any one has faced this problem and got the solution, please help me to solve this issue

I have saved and committed the new rule. When modified the rule, assert new value is displaying as blank. If I click on Validate button, it is not displaying any error. Once I save and commit it is showing below error in BPEL Process

Business rule, runtime prompt problem

Hi Gurus,
We have one business rule which contain run time prompt where global variable assigned to it, when I run the rule form workspace I would able see all numbers from prompt window
But when I run the same from Excel Smartview, I couldn't able to find all members from prompt windows.
I was wondering what would be the cause?

Hi Amit,
The person running the rule will need to have read access to both cost centers in order to transfer otherwise as you have seen the prompt will be invalid -- when select the prompt you should find the cost center that have no access to do not appear in the prompt itself. If you a value that the prompt does not make available then it will error out.
If you do not want to provide read access to both cost centers, you may be able to setup a multi-step process with a transfer out by a previous owner and transfer in by the new owner using a temporary cost center both have read access to -- workforce planning uses both (one step and two step) depending on how your security is provisioned.

BRF - is an event-controlled runtime environment for processing rules.
The BRF also contains a maintenance environment in which a rule administrator can edit and configure BRF objects.
The BRF is object-oriented and therefore offers appropriate enhancement mechanisms that are modification-free and upgrade-independent.
Advantages
        Easy implementation and configuration of rules with minimal coding
        Easy maintenance of rules as there is not much coding involved
        Easy extension in order to support application specific data

Error while integrating Business rules (decision service) in BPEL

hi'
from some time I am struggling to integrate Business Rules with BPEL, I was successfully able to integrate it also.
however now once again the same error has started coming.
If it try to deploy the BPEL process it will give built failed but the BPEL process will come in the BPEL console
and after passing the parameter it will give unable to find the decision service WSDL file.
please advice what is the issue some time it works perfectly some time it shows error while deploying.

I am able to deploy it successfully the problem was with version,the form also got successfully deployed according to the build,

DataExport in Business Rules

Hi,
is there a way to make the DataExport calcscript command works in Business Rules ?
I made the script below to export data in a calcscript and it works fine.

The main objective is to have a level-0 file of all data for a specific version, scenario, year and entity. This file will be used (after modification like inluding alias and comments from Planning) as a reference by users.
Now, I would like to move it in a business rule to be able to pass parameters from a Planning form.
In my example "E23" is an entity and I would like it to change to follow user security in Planning (user will not be able to choose other entity than those they can access in Planning).
I tried to do it in a report but it is too slow as we have 12 dimensions, 3 of them having more than 1000 members.
Is anybody did something similar before (using DataExport or another method) ?

Hi John,
my problem is not with DataExport performance, which is really fast (5 seconds or less). We have only level-0 members included in the export and none currently has dynamic calc.
The performance issue is with reports that take a long time to generate as we have 1000+ Activity * 1000+ Products * 1000+ Sectors so, basically 1,000,000,000 cells * the numbers of entities included. Last time I ran my test report, it ran for 6 hours before I killed it. Even with "Suppress Missing", it seems to try to extract all data first and remove missing after.
This is why we changed to DataExport, which is more efficient. But the fact that DataExport seems to be unrecognized by business rules cause me the problem that I can't use parameters and users will be able to see entities that are not their own (unless I create 200 scripts, one for each users, which will not really be a solution).

Business Rules and BPM

Anybody here knows the difference between Business Rules and BPM..
We can do pretty much everything with a Business Rules Engine as we would do with BPM , then in which scenario should we use BPM and in which scenario should we use Business Rules Engine?
Ofcourse Business Rules Engine has more complex set of rules than any BPM product in the market for .eg. ILOG Business Rules...

BPM and a rules engine are different. Both are important, but they have different uses.
Oracle BPM Studio is used by Business Analysts and Developers to model processes, integrate underlying components (including business rules) and develop user interfaces.
There's an Engine that executes the processes that have been modeled. It sends the work item instances to the right person or persons with the right data when the work item reaches an interactive activity in the process. Similarly the Engine has invokes the underlying components specified in the process when the work item instance reaches an automatic activity.
There's an out of the box Workspace runtime that lets end users manage and run their work item instances as they flow throughout the processes.
We can business rules inside the processes, but one does not replace the other.

Problem with FIX-Statement in Business Rule

Hello,
ich have a business rule with two nested FIX-Statements.
I calculate depending on the month in the runtime-prompt a forecast for this month. After that i fix on that month an clear some specific accounts. But some of these accounts still have data.
they are in the cleardata section and they are children of FiBuKonten from the first fix. When i leave out the @CHILDREN("FiBuKonten") in the first fix the accounts are cleared as excepted, but i need that fix because not all accounts are part of this forecast.
I changed everything to work as a calc-script and the same problem appears, on dev and prod database.
Why are some accounts cleared while others not ? Really misterious!

Does it make a difference when a dimension has dynamic calc members and i dont fix on that dimension to fix on the Level 0 members of that dimension ? The result should be the same in my eyes.
SGF is dense. I found out that everytime i the fix includes that first member M_124100 the error occoured.
I changed the rule in the form that i split the FIX Statement. And now it works without the error and with all data cleared. Even when i don`t reorder the dimension SGF.

BPM error when opening a business rule task

I am using a created installation of BPM 12c from the ( summer camp ).
I am in the BPM composer and I now get the following error whenever I do a right click on a bussiness rule task and then select Open Business Rule
"A connection to the server has failed. (status=500)". This happens on all the business rule task, in all projects.
I can open the rule via de Project Home, tabe business rule without problem.
in the AdminServer-diagnostic.log I see the following error whenever it happens:

EPMA Batch Client - Can I launch business rules created in Calc Manager?

I'm currently on a project where we have implemented an EPMA Planning app (v 11.1.1.2), and we need to schedule business rules to run in batch. In the past, I used the command line launcher to perform this task. Unfortunately, the command line launcher is really a part of EAS, so it would appear that I cannot use this method to launch a rule created in Calc Manager. Is this correct?
It looks like my other option is to use the EPMA Batch Client. In looking at the "Execute" command in the documentation, it doesn't reference the ability to run a business rule. The docs are fairly limited, so I'm wondering if I really CAN launch a business rule from here.
Has anyone scheduled a business rule (created in Calc Manager) to run in batch? If so, what method did you use? If all else fails, I can create a calc script and run it from MaxL, but I'd rather not have multiple versions of the code floating around.

Hi Jake,
One of the known issues in 11.1.1.3 is :-
You cannot launch a business ruleset with runtime prompts from the Planning command line launch (7205464).
Whether this means you can't run calc manager BR's from command line I am not sure.
There is no documentation in this area so I assume it can't be done yet.

Where can i find Business rules console in oracle SOA11G?

I am using the business rule component in the SOA 11G.
After deploying my BPEL process i want to edit the values of rule set at run time. i am not able to find any console for business rules like in 10G.

There is no UI provided for rules modification in SOA 11gR1 (11.1.1.1.0). User has to create their own UI by implementing the exposed APIs.
However its available as part of 11gR1 Patchset1 (11.1.1.2.0)
