Russian script keyboard

I have to use transparent stickers over the letters on my keyboard. Is there a dedicated Russian MAC keyboard on the market? I can change the language to Russian but MAC in Europe mainatain that there isn´t a keyboard to go with it.

*_Where to order Russian keyboards (dual Rus/Eng keys)_*
For those interested, yes the phonetic Russian setting is great for occaissional use, but if you really need to use Russian characters a lot then you need the dual English/Russian keyboard. Here is the best place I found on the web to order one - good price, fast service and delivery, safe ordering (I did a bank transfer from NL to Lithuania):
http://www.itbankeurope.com/
Wireless Russian/English MB167RS/A (€98):
http://www.itbankeurope.com/MB167RS%5B2F%5DA_/
USB Russian/English MB110RS/A (€61):
http://www.itbankeurope.com/MB110RS%5B2F%5DA_/
Delivery was a bit steep - €20, but this was par for the course with most places (cheapest I think was €13, but the item price was higher so it evened out). Makes the total cost for the USB item about €80.
I found most other web places in Latvia, Lithuania and Ukraine had poor web sites, prices same or higher, and most importantly for me no English translation opn their pages. Strangely enough there were no suitable Russian online sites for these items.
Of course, it's been a few months and there may be other alternatives now. But if you need one of these keyboards give ITBankEurope a try - I was very happy with their sales, service and help.
Cheers!

  • Russian mnemonic keyboard three letters missing: щ ч э - in Office 2013 in Windows 8 Pro or Standard and Windows 7 Pro or Standard

The issue I believed is Windows specific. It only appears to work correctly on a Windows XP system. I can get the keys to work on Windows 7 or Windows 8 system.
Russian mnemonic keyboard three letters missing: щ ч э
I have a client that noticed this issue. He is a linguist and he uses the letters quite frequently. He further explained that...
Russian mnemonic keyboard three letters missing: щ ч э
On Windows 8 there is a mnemonic Russian keyboard.
Unfortunately there are three letters which I can not find: щ, ч and э.
These three letters exist in the standard Russian keyboard. They are at the following location (in the US  keyboard): o,x and '.
I also did a test on a Windows 7 machine running office 2013 and still the letters are missing as described.
The client explained without these three letters the mnemonic keyboard is useless
Your help to address this issue is greatly appreciated.

I think it is by design. You can use Preview to show the keyboard layout.

  • Defective Russian Phonetic keyboard in iOS

I've noticed that the Russian Phonetic keyboard is defective in iOS.
Both Russian and Bulgarian use the Cyrillic alphabet but each language has a completely different standard keyboard layout. For example, on the second row of a standard keyboard, the Russian one starts with ФЫВА and the Bulgarian one starts with ЬЯАО. To make typing easier in Cyrillic for users of QWERTY keyboards, both languages also have phonetic keyboards where the layout of the Cyrillic letters closely resembles the same phonetic sounds on a QWERTY keyboard. Therefore the second row of these phonetic keyboards starts with АСДФ, corresponding to ASDF on the second row of a QWERTY keyboard.
Here's the problem - if I add the Bulgarian Phonetic keyboard to my iPhone, I get a phonetic keyboard where the second row starts with АСДФ, but if I add the Russian Phonetic keyboard, I see the standard ФЫВА Russian layout and not a phonetic one starting АСДФ. Unfortunately I cannot use a Bulgarian phonetic keyboard for typing in Russian because it is missing letters that don't exist in Bulgarian, for example Ы.
What is causing this? Is it a bug in iOS?

In iOS, the default "Bulgarian" screen keyboard happens to be phonetic, while the Russian one is not.  That is what you are seeing.  If you tap on Bulgarian on the list and then choose Bulgarian Standard for the screen keyboard, that one will also be non-phonetic.
As Meg said, the keyboards which are labeled Phonetic are only for use with an external wifi hardware keyboard.

  • Trying to type in Russian script...

I am taking Russian as a second language and want to work with Russian on my computer to better learn the language. I have already figured out how to change the settings so I can type Cyrillic Russian in pages, but I would like to know if there is any way to type in Russian script (i.e. handwriting in cursive in Russian).
There are different fonts to type English in script, so what's the trick to Russian script?
    Thanks

You would need to download a special font to type in cursive cyrillic, and they are not common.  See this page:

    Monotype Corsiva might be one.

  • Russian language keyboard

Just got a brand new iPod Touch 4G. I need to use the Russian language on it and have setup the keyboard to have access to the russian cyrillic alphabet. The BIG problem is that 2 characters are missing from the cyrillic alphabet. Apple where is the ё and ъ. The first letter transliterates to yoh and the second letter is the hard sign (silent) so I am unable to enter words like ребёнок and объект, child and object in russian. This is unacceptable where is the attention to detail.

For some languages and for some keys if you touch and hold a key, options appear for that key. Have your tried that? You can also suggest changes to Apple by going here:

  • Silly me. I was playing around with the virtual keyboard; found the international keyboard list. I turned on the Russian/Cyrillic keyboard.  Surprise, surprise, now everything is in Russian, and I can't see how to restore everything to English.  Help!

Silly me. I was playing around on the settings portion of my I-Pad2, when I found the international keyboard section. I reset the keyboard to Russian to see what it would look like.  Now, the keyboard is in Russian, and so are all the settings elements.  I can't see how to get it all back into English.  Help,

  • Russian + English keyboards

Hi, I would ideally like to have 2 keyboards, English and Russian, and be able to type say with the Russian one and then be able to type latin characters with the other seamlessly without changing any settings on the Mac.
I heard this is not possible with 2 Apple Bluetooth keyboards unless they are quite similar in terms of character layout i.e. Finnish and English, can someone confirm if this is true and likewise if you happen to confirm the opposite it would save a lot of time
If not would any of these solutions work
    1. one Apple Bluetooth keyboard and one third party Bluetooth keyboard
    2. one Apple wired keyboard and one Apple Bluetooth keyboard
    3. two Apple wired keyboards?
    Thank you in advance

    Grant,
I didn't know I could switch with a shortcut, the reason I asked the question was that it was getting very awkward switching in the menu bar, especially in full-screen programmes but this solves the issue just as well as having a second keyboard (and at less cost)
I now have it set to alt + `
    Thank you very much

  • How can I convert a pdf document written in the Cyrillic (Russian) script into a MS Word document in the Cyrillic script?

I wish to convert a pdf document using a very small font from Cyrillic script into an MS Word document likewise using Cyrillic script. Then I could zoom up the size of the pdf document's script. Is there any way  this can be done?

Why can't you just zoom in Adobe Reader?

  • Russian virtual keyboard missing a character!

    ...namely character "ъ".
I understand that space is limited and this character needed not very often, but why don't BB place it among numerics or another extended set?
    Same issue with character "ё"

It may be an alternate selection on another key.  Is there a similar Russian letter?  If so hold that letter and a pop up will be available allowing you to select the other letter.

  • External keyboard with Russian layout drops "zh"

When I hook up my beloved Kinesis and need to type something in Russian, the keyboard drops (on the phonetic map) ж. On standard layout, it drops х and ь. When I choose to show the keyboard viewer, there seem to be some absent keys. In fact, there are only 86 keys, but the Keyboard Setup Assistant can only detect a 102 (?) or thereabout-keyed board. Is there some way to circumvent this mistaken autodetection?

the missing keys are moved, that's all.

  • Can I book MacBook Air with Russian keyboards?

I would like to buy macbook with Russian / english keyboard. Can I book this model in site?

Regarding the keyboard. Russian is not available from the Keyboard & Documentation pop up menu here.
However, on a Mac, in System Preferences > Language & Region you can select Russian for menus, dialogs, formats of dates, times, and currencies.

  • How to remap keyboard characters?

I'd like to remap my Russian phonetic keyboard layout to match what this guy did for the Mac: (scroll down to Usage to see the layout that I'm wanting):
    http://www.users.bigpond.com/sphynx1/RussianPhonetic/
Does anyone know what files I can edit to get these results?

I'd suggest xmodmap (1) in X; for the Linux Console, you can probably use some dumpkeys- (1) & loadkeys- (1) -fu to do what you want.

  • Letters other than English on the keyboard

    Hello,
I'm considering to purchase T420s Laptop via web-side.
But I'd like to have some others letters (like Ukrainian or Russian) on keyboard besides standard English.
    Questions:
    * does anybody know if ti's possible to make such orders via web-site?
    * is there any other way to add such letters, but stickers? (personally I do not like idea of stickers, and, e.g. for Mac, there is possibility to make laser engraving of letters on keyboard. something like this for Lenovo?)

I'm fairly certain if you order it in the Ukraine, you'll get a keyboard that matches your region.
Otherwise, you can source the proper keyboard and simply replace it yourself.

  • Desktop Manager & script

    Hi,
I have been experimenting with Apple script to enable voice activation of some features. Turning Bluetooth on and off using a script from the forum was a good learning exercise. However I have a problem; I’m using Richard Warehams Desktop Manager (http://desktopmanager.berlios.de/) and I can’t get it to respond using apple script. It may be a feature (or lack off) of the code as it has not been updated since May 2005.
Basically what I want to do is write a script to make it switch desktops. Normally this is done via the OptionCommandn keyboard short cut. Where n is the desktop you are after – I have 1 to 4. I tried putting this into a script but it was just ignored. No error messages, but no noticeable action either!
Could someone please suggest a script I could try or an alternative desktop manager which may work with scripted keyboard shortcuts?
I should mention that I still feel very new to Mac world although I have had the MBP for almost a year.
    Thanks for your help,
    Andy W

Here's the script I have tried. Although a bell rings nothing else happens....
    tell application "System Events"
    tell process "Desktop Manager"
    keystroke "2" using {command down, option down}
    delay 3
    end tell
    end tell
    Any suggestions would be welcome!
    Thanks
