Russion text in a PDF doc displays ?????

I have a PDF document that contains Russian text but the russian text characters display as question marks ?????
I have attached the document, and also 2 jpg files.
The first screen print is looking at the document in another PDF reader (Foxit reader). In this image you can clearly see the Russian characters "студента".
The second screen print shows the same document in Adobe reader, the Russian characters have been replaced with ????????
Our Russian customers use Adobe and not another reader such as Foxit, so we really need a solution to this problem. Please help!
I have tried using reader 9.2 and 8.1 with the same problem.
What do I need to do in order for the document to display the Russian text?

Why some PDF docs displayed are garbled and others are not?

I've had this love hate relationship with adobe for the past few days. I'm so frustrated since I can't seem to figure why other pdf docs display information correctly while others are garbled. It looks as if the letters/text overlap. I 'm loosing sleep over this. I'm at my wits end. Can someone please help? I appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Don't lose sleep over Adobe! Let's see what we can figure out. But I have lots of questions to get us started:
Are you creating the PDFs yourself, or viewing PDFs from different sources?
What are you using to view the PDFs (Reader, Acrobat, and what versions)?
Do these PDFs all use the same fonts, or different ones?
Do you know whether the fonts are embedded/subsetted in the PDFs? (You can check by choosing File > Properties and clicking the Fonts tab.
Let's start there, and we will dig deeper if none of these shed any light on the problem.

Hello,
I'm new here, so please excuse me if I do or say something I shouldn't.
I need to change the words in a musical score because the font is too small. OCR recognition doesn"t work because there are illustrations that are different from images or text... Is there a way to get in there and make the changes I need to do?
Any help greatly appreciated.

If the PDF that you converted already has searchable text, please try disabling OCR as described in this document: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (OCR) when converting PDF to Word or Excel. (If the PDF was created from a scanned document and doesn't already have searchable text, disabling OCR isn't a great option, as the text won't be searchable/editable in the converted Word doc.)

I saved a PDF doc in adobe and then added text to the form. But every time I try an email it it only sends the original form without text. Once I've changed a doc in Adobe, how can I save it so that I'm able to use it with added text and notes? Also, I'm using a new iPad.

If you are using those apps or websites, they are likely viewing the PDF using iOS' built in PDF previewing, which will not show annotations and markup to the PDF. We have informed Apple of this issue, but do not have any insight into whether or when they will fix it.
Regarding the qustion about importing pictures, Adobe Reader does not provide any capabilities to import pictures into a PDF. To do this, you'll need to use Acrobat, available on your desktop computer.

You can set up a temporary button (or link, bookmark, etc.) and add the following JavaScript action:

It also sets the font size, but you can remove that line if you don't need to do that.

Open the PDF file, tap on the screen to bring up the top bar, tap on the third button from right to bring up the annotations toolbar. Now select the tool you want and start annotating! Hightlight tool is second from left.

Pdf docs created in pages show only photos, graphics, NO text, Help

I have tried exporting to pdf, best quality & also "Print" to pdf with same results. The resulting thumbnail on my desktop and the one in "get info". look fine but when the pdf doc is opened only the graphic elements including photos show up. NO words show up at all (on Mac or PC). I need to be able to create pdf so I can print on pc network. Any suggestions. It would appear that I am following the instructions correctly as a pdf is actually created but with the above results.

Tried your suggestion to no avail. However found some new info that might help find the problem.
1. When I open in preview rather than Adobe the document looks correct.
2. When I click and drag across the missing text I can produce grayed blocks where the text should be..
3. If I then "copy" and "past" into a blank word document the text appears in the word document.
4. I was able to open the document with the problem with e-copy desk top a kind of reader/converter.
5. My OS is up to date.
5. Adobe reader is up to date as well (8.1 think).

Old documents that worked are no longer displayed correctly and new documents I make do not display images. All grey boxes. Worked fine before the update. Suggestions?

Could you please let me know what version of OS are you using.
Open Acrobat and go to "Edit > Preferences > Page Display" and check whether 'Show large images' option is checked.
Is this issue specific for one PDF?

Hi Sreelatha. The best example code for your purpose is the Scrolling sample app I referred to previously. The word Scrolling in that post is a link to the download page. I think that code will answer all your questions about how to init a UIImage, then use it to init a UIImageView, and then position the UIImageView frame in a UIScrollView. Two cases are demostrated: 1) Scrolling horizontally through a series of images; 2) Scrolling both H & V over a single image which is several times larger than the window.
You might also be interested in the PageControl sample app in case you want to add a page control to your scroll view.
Reading your last post again... I sure hope we've been discussing images (like jpegs?) in this thread. This isn't about reading and rendering the actual xls, pdf and doc files, is it?? Of course the iPhone handles html beautifully, so for example, an html representation of a doc file would play nicely. But in that case you'd want a UIWebView, not a UIImageView.

Using PDF Text in a Word Doc

Any suggestions on how to take the text from a PDF and use in Word doc

By "opening it in Acrobat" I mean opren the Adobe Acrobat application and then open the PDF file in it (File -> Open -> select your PDF)
If you have the file open in Acrobat then follow the commands I offered in my first response to convert the PDF to a Word file. YOu can then open the Word file in Word and do what you wish with the contents of it.

SAFARI DOES NOT DISPLAY PDF DOCS.

Does anyone know why my Safari browser suddenly does not show PDF docs in the browser window? It used to. I use Version 2.04. A message does appear that says "plug-in cancelled". I don't know why.
Acrobat opens it in Firefox fine, but nothing happens in Safari. I prefer Safari for viewing PDFs online because it is more convenient than having Acrobat start up and drop files on my hard drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

Hmm yes i can relate much better then launching adobe, for my needs.
Go to System preferences-> Quick time preferences->Advanced tab
see the -> MIME settings, click the button,
Images: click to expand the list, make sure PDF is not selected.

Preview (copy text) results in SQUIGGLES not text for certain PDFs

hi - problem is "copy text and paste from certain PDFs result in squiggles
When i use an online converter service (e.g. http://ebook.online-convert.com/convert-to-pdf) to convert files to PDF, Apple Preview does not work properly.
What happens is, when I view this PDF and highlight the text to copy in Apple Preview (snowleapard 10.6.x), and then paste the text say in an email / text file or word doc ---- i get squiggles NOT text.
However, if I view this same PDF in Adobe Pro, I get text (copy text and paste works)
I can also view this same PDF in my iphone app, Goodreader, and "copy text and paste) to email works e.g. I get text.
Interestingly, if I create the PDF NOT from this online service, but say from Adobe PRO, Apple PReview works (e.g. I copy and paste the text no issue)
is this a known bug of Apple Preview or is there some setting i must change somewhere?
the support/developer dude of the online service keeps telling me its an Apple Preview problem, not a problem of his service.....

Without knowing the Oracle version, how you plan to load documents , there is no way your question can be answered.
