RV016 admin password doesn't reset

So - I've used many Cisco RV042/082 and have just purchased a couple previously used RV016 units.
The first think I do is hold down the "reset" switch until the units reset to factory and then proceed programming them - EXCEPT this last unit doesn't seem to be resetting the administrative password.
The unit has reset so that it is 192.168.1.1 and is handing out IP assignments via DHCP in that range.
When I point my browser (IE9) to the web page http://192.168.1.1 I am prompted to log on.  I enter 'admin' for user name and attempt to enter the same for the password.  The browser returns me to the logon prompt and after a few apparently failed attempts it displays a 401 error Unauthorized page.
In desperation I have tried:
   admin / admin
            / admin
   admin / password
            / password
   admin / rv016
and simply admin with a blank password.
Isn't the admin password supposed to reset with everything else?
If not - how can I - if it is, then what would be preventing the admin password from resetting - is there an internal jumper or something I could try?  I don't care about preserving any setting obviously I just want access to the admin interface.
Thanks to any and all with suggestions.

For thos of you who read this and wonder what the resolution is- so do I.  I managed to contact the previous owner who provided me the password he was using and that worked.  The "factory reset" seemingly reset everything EXCEPT the admin password.
In short -for those of you thinking about buying used router be sure the previous owner provides the old password or has guaranteed the unit was reset to a pre-agreed upon password.

  • Admin Password not working, Resetting password not working

Out of nowhere my G4 required me to login (I never had to previously). I tried every password I have ever used and nothing worked. I took it into the Omaha genius bar, and the nice gentleman used the install disk (I think it was a 10.4 install disk) to reset my password. When we resarted we weren't required to type in the password, so he assumed it was fine.
I started my computer once at home and it was fine. When I did a restart, I was required to login. The login does not recognize the new password. I tried ressetting the password, but it doesn't seem to take. It doesn't give me a warning, but when I try to login, it doesn't work. This is super frustrating. I can't find the 10.4 install disk, so I was just using the computer's original install disk to change the admin password.
Any suggestions to actually change the password or to figure why it isn't recognizing the password?

I can't find the 10.4 install disk, so I was just using the computer's original install disk to change the admin password.
I am assuming these original disks that came with a Quicksilver may be as early as OS 10.1. I imagine password setting is a pretty fundamental process to any version of OSX but I would feel very uncomfortable about doing anything to a Tiger drive with an earlier OS version. Would be interesting to test, but not on my computer!

  • How to reset lion admin password, how to reset lion admin password?

I forgot my admin password. Can anyone help me how can I reset the admin password?

Boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” and press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but you won't be able to unlock the Keychain. If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it. You’ll need to reset your keychain in the preferences of the Keychain Access application.

  • HT201240 My admin password doesn't do anything.

When I enter the admin password (in any instance, be it for updating software or trying to access and edit system preferences) nothing happens. I know the password is typed in correctly, and all that happens is that the window closes down. The little lock icon is perma-locked, even though I enter the correct password, and I can't use any admin functions. I can't install anything, new or updates.
I am using a MacBook Pro Early 2011 running Lion (10.7.5).

Try to reset the administrator password.
Follow the instructions in the beige and green boxes.

    Note
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but you won't be able to unlock the Keychain. If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it. You’ll need to reset your keychain in the preferences of the Keychain Access application.

Now when i restart the comp, it shows my accounts with its picture, but when i click on an account nothing happens. You can use password assistant to auto generate or digit yourself the new password, than copy and paste into password box, verification password box and eventually in a text editor.

  • Performed an Archive and Install and now my Admin password doesn't work

I talked to CS this afternoon per an issue with iTunes and was instructed to perform an Archive and Install.
I just got done running both discs and the computer seems ready to go. When I click on my user name (I'm the admin) my password no longer works. We have two other users on the computer (neither have been set up with a password to access the accounts) but now the computer is asking for one.
    I'm typing my password correctly.
Does the computer reset to a generic password?
    Any help would be appreciated!!
    Thank you!

    Hi Kathleen,
Does the computer reset to a generic password?
No, it most likely means that there was a disk problem, you can generally prevent... well, let me give you my whole spiel since we're here...
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.
At this point it's not unlikely to undo the PW problem, but will prevent fiture problems.
If it still doesn't work, go back to Step 2 above & lok for Change Password in the Menu bar.
We have more if that still doesn't do it.

  • How to Reset Windows 8 Admin Password without Disk

Problem:Forgot Windows 8 admin password and no reset disk available, how can I reset Windows 8 admin password? On the occasion, how to reset password on Windows 8 seems to be our problematic issue. However, the problem looks difficult, not difficult actually. Two factors make efforts on it. One is the new characteristics of Windows 8 system, the other is software technology development. So just let me help you to solve it. Just choose one and put it into practice:1. Get User password via Windows Password Hint.2. Get into computer with PIN code, and reset password for locked account.3. Login windows 8 Via Microsoft MSN Account.4. Reset Windows password with another available admin account.5. Reset Windows 8 password with iSunshare password tool. These methods will be introduced in details for people who have encountered or are facing this problem. 1. Get Administrator password via Windows Password HintWhen we are creating our Windows system account and login password, a password hint will be asked to set up for preparation. This password hint had better can remind you, only just you of lost or forgotten password. So it couldn’t like the password, but is related to your login password. As a result, while you type a wrong password, the password hint will pops up below the password input box. Based on the password hint, you can think of your origin password.  As seen above, my password hint is email [email protected], and my Windows 8 login password is the same as the password of email. So when the password hint pops up, I will think of Windows login password instantly. 2. Get into computer with PIN code, and reset password for locked accountPIN code is a quick, convenient way to sign in to this PC by using a 4-digit code. If you have ever created one, this may be the most simplest and effective method for Windows 8 password reset. Totally two steps are needed. Step 1: Sign in with PIN code
When you forgot your local account password in the login page, sign-in options is provided for you to choose. Click the Sign-in options, there are two options, Password and PIN. Choose PIN, and input 4-digit code in the box. Then you can sign in to your computer successfully. Step 2: Press Windows +X, and click on Command Prompt (Admin) and Yes. Step 3: On the Command Prompt, type in: Net User <user name> <new password> and press Enter to reset a new password for Windows 8.  Command Prompt screen appears, input the words like the words in the red box, user name is iSunshare, new password is 12345, and then press Enter to complete the Windows password reset process.  3. Login windows 8 Via Microsoft MSN AccountIf your computer has set up to sign in to Windows 8 with Microsoft account, and you can login Windows with it, and create a PIN that any user who has a password must enter it when waking this PC, and then login with PIN code, reset password with Command Prompt. 4. Reset Windows 8 Password with Another available Admin AccountIf there is another admin account available, log on to Windows with this account first, and then reset other accounts passwords would be easy.
    >> Enter Computer Management screen
Click My Computer to select Manage to enter this screen
    >> Set password for account you want to reset
Click Local Users and Groups, choose Users, and right-click the account you want to reset its password to choose Set Password. 5. Reset Windows 8 password with iSunshare password toolWhen you have no password reset disk, the first and most important effort of Windows password recovery advanced tool is to create a password reset disk. How to reset Windows 8 forgotten password step by step by iSunshare Windows Genius Advanced? Follow the below steps.Step 1: Download iSunshare Windows password recovery advanced tool from iSunshare official website. Install and launch it on an accessible computer.Step 2: Create a password reset disk
Insert writable USB or CD/DVD into accessible computer and select correct media type, and then click Begin burning to burn the removable device. Until the message “Successfully burning” pops up, it means password reset disk has been created completely.
Step 3: Boot from USB or CD/DVD Setup
    >> Insert the removable device to your locked computer
    >> Boot your locked computer, and press DEL or F2 at the same time to enter BIOS setting screen
    >> Reset removable device as the first boot device under Boot option
    >> Windows password reset screen appears after all the above settingsStep 4: Reset Windows 8 forgotten password
After all the above settings, Windows password reset screen appears.
    >> Select the Windows system type and the account you want to reset its password. Or you can add a new account for Windows 8.
    >> Click “Reboot” to restart your computer, then you could login Windows 8 without password successfully.   Source: Reset Windows 8 Password without Disk

A few days ago, I had met the headache things that I had forgotten Windows 8 password. The login screen rejected my passwords. I was frustrated because there was very important data on my disk and I couldn’t reinstall the OS. ………….
I fortunately got to know the PCUnlocker program, which is a professional windows password recovery tool for us to reset windows 8 password instantly yet no data loss.

  • Admin password reset problem. Help!

I just bought a used MBA (late 2010, 10.6.5), and I do not have the admin password. I also do not have the USB drive that came with it.
I would most like to perform a clean install, but at this point I would be happy just resetting the password.
    Here's what I've tried:
    - Tried booting from my Snow Leopard disk using Remote Install.  My disk has a version (probably 10.6.0) which is too early to work, apparently. The MBA has a kernel panic.
    - Tried looking for ways to set another admin account via terminal command. Can't find out how this is done without the existing admin password.
Any way to do this without the thumb drive and without a later version of the Snow Leopard disk?
    Charlie

See this Apple note on resetting the admin password. Under "resetting the original administrator account password" it discusses how to deal with changing with no DVD drive available.

  • Admin password is missing

    Hello
I have not be using my emac G3 for a while and now I need to do something in the system, but I have forgot the administrator password. How can I solve this problem?
    Helena

First off, there is no such thing as a G3 eMac. So either you meant G4 eMac or you meant G3 iMac.
Second, boot from your install/restore CDs or DVD that came with your system. From there you can reset the admin password by choosing Reset Password from the installer menu.

  • AirPort won't auto connect after resetting admin password

The other day I reset my admin password using the install disk and now AirPort won't log on automatically when I start my laptop. Has this happened to any one else? I have tried going through the network preferences, internet connect, and tried a couple of other things and the problem hasn't been fixed.

Try the following, in order, until (hopefully) resolved:
    1a. Delete Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
Under "Preferred Networks," delete the network(s) you regularly use from the list.
    1b. Delete AirPort Keychain Entries
Launch the "Keychain Access" application located in Applications/Utilties.
Click on the "Kind" filter at the top, and look for any "AirPort network password" entries...and delete them.
    1c. Add Preferred Network(s)
System Preferences > Network > AirPort > Advanced > AirPort tab
Add the preferred network(s) using the "+" button.
Restart or log out then back in.
    2. Move System Configuration Files
(Note: You will have to reestablish your network connections settings.)
    Go to /Library/Preferences
Move the SystemConfiguration folder to the desktop.
Restart your Mac. (Note: OS X will rebuild the files that are now sitting on your desktop. If this doesn't resolve the issue, you can move the folder back to it's original location.)

  • Resetting the Admin password in single user mode

Ok, my friend bought an old Imac from someone she went to school with with OS 10.4.2 on it. It works fine except that she can not install any programs because there is an admin password that she does not know. She asked the person she bought it from, he says he doesn't even remember setting a password. Normaly with this issue id just pop in the install disk and reset it from there, except neither of them have the install disk, and my install disk is to current for the machine. Does anyone know how I can reset the admin acount using single user mode commands? I can do it on my Mac Book pro but it doesn't seem to work the same way on 10.4. Please help!
EDIT: It is a Power PC G3 if that helps.

You do not need to delete "the users home folders". Nor do you need to delete the netinfo database. Here are two proceedures:
    Change Password
    Mac OS X:
Changing or resetting an account password via GUI:
    Resetting a user's password
Resetting the original administrator account password
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106156
You do not have a CD/DVD
Changing password from single user mode:
You can also change the administrator's password from single user mode or create a new administrator account.
You need to get into single use mode for steps one and two that are listed below.
This page will tell you how to get into single user mode.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1492
Basically, you hold down the command-s key then powering on your machine. The command key has a little apple symbol on the lower left. It is between the alt/option key and the space bar. On a PC keyboard, it will be the windows key, I think.
    1) You can change the password on an account. ( Do you know Unix. You are in a Unix single user console. ) The setup commands you need should be listed on the screen. For Mac OS 10.4.11, the commands are:
    # Type the follow two instructions to access the startup disk in read/write:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    # Start up some utility processes that are needed.
    sh /etc/rc
    # You will probably need to press the return key once the system stops typing.
    # To find out the users on the system type, use the list command. The l is a lower case L:
    ls /Users
    # One of these accounts will be the administrator.
    # Pick one of the users which I'll call a-user-name and type it in this command:
    passwd a-user-name
    # and enter the new user password. You need six characters.
    # You will need to enter your password twice. Your typing will not show up on the screen just
    # press enter when you complete the typing.
    # For cryptic information on these commands try:
    man ls
    man passwd
The root account isn't enabled by default. I am not sure if changing the password on root will enable it.
    2) Get the Mac to set up an additional administrative account. You can then change the password on your old account.
Start with your computer power off. Hold down command-s. Power on your computer.
    Type in the following:
The first two commands will depend on your release of Mac OS X. Look at what is typed out in the console to determine the exact format.
    # Type the follow two instructions to access the startup disk in read/write. Press return after each command.
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    /sbin/mount -uw /
    cd /var/db
    pwd
#List all files. The l is a lower case L.
    ls -a
#The move command acts as a rename command in this format.
    mv -i .applesetupdone .applesetupdone.old
    reboot
Once you've done that the computer reboots and it's like the first time you used the machine. Your old accounts are all safe. From there you just change all other account passwords in the account preferences!!
