RV042 DDNS problem

Hi all,
I am trying to set up my rv042 to use the ddns service. The rv042 is directly connected to the ISP provided modem on WAN port 1. The problem is that instead of seeing the internet IP the rv042 is using the ISP subnet assigned IP.
Is there any way to solve this?
Thank you.

Marios,
You need to put the modem/router into bridge mode. This way it will pass your public ip address over to the RV042 and this problem won't occur. Currently right now, you are NATTING twice all traffic coming inbound and can cause certain routing problems and other various problems as well. Once you get RV042 with public ip address your DDNS account will start reflecting the proper address.
Or if you can’t bridge your modem/router, see if there is a place in that device to input your DDNS account information since it’s your gateway to the internet.

  • RV042 email problem

I have a Cisco RV042 V3 hardware with a newest firmware - it connects to a wireless ISP to with a static IP and a DSL on WAN2 with PPPOE fix IP address. Our company's   MX record points to the PPPOE connection and when I deploy this router the Exchange 2003 SMTP server cannot receive email randomly. On the SMTP log i can see TIMEOUT 211 errors for som domains, but some domains able to communicate and finish the data trensfer.
If I put back the old Linksys RV042 with the1.3 hardware (also newest firmware ) the SMTP communication works, but after 8-10 hour working time the data transfer stops, and I need power down the router and restart.
    Have anyone any idea?
    Sorry for the bad english.

  • RV042 DDNS not updating the IP address

My DDNS not updating my ip address at all. Is it an issue with the Cisco frimware or DDNS not compatible with DynDNS.org. I have seen many people having the same issue with no answers. I was wondering if its Frimware issue or I need to use different DYNDNS,
    Regards,

    Hi Tom,
Firstly I would like to apologise for the delay in my response, I have been away for a few days. Secondly, thankyou for your valued suggestions, help and information on this issue.
My feedback on the problem is as follows:
    1. I didn't change the password at the website, but not in the router's DDNS config.
    2. I didn't use special characters in the password that are not eligible for HTTP transmission.
    3. I didn't change the DynDNS hostname on the website, but not on the router
So then I went about trying your suggestion to "try changing the password on the account (and updating the configuration of the router to use the new password)". Just before I changed the Dyn DNS account password, I decided to try to re-save the original password into the routers config and I noticed that I was not getting any dots as I typed the password as is usually the case. I rebooted the router and tried again, this time dots appeared as I typed and the password seemed to save successfully. This fixed the problem and the router DDNS function has been working correctly for 2 IP address changes since with the original password. It would appear that the router just developed a glitch in its config settings and needed re-configuring after re-booting.
So indirectly your last suggestion was the correct answer & thanks again for your help.
(I will now mark my question as answered by you.)
    Regards,
    Jason.

  • RV042 error problem : Apr 26 03:31:16 2012 Kernel last message repeated 2 times

    Dear sir,
Our detail is "RV042 V03" and using 2 bridge mode modem.
After i upgraded a new firmware v4.1.1.01-sp (Dec 6 2011 20:03:18)  , i got many problems in NSD. Both of Modem always hang 5-6 times a day. I had read some solutions from this community. But it couldnt be solved.
and today, i just saw the log line :
Apr 26 03:31:16 2012 Kernel last message repeated 2 times.  ( It takes around 5-6 times per hour)..  Please tell me what it is and please explain me how to solve the modem hanging problem.
    Best Rgds,
    Kriengsak L.

    Kreingsak,
Is that the whole error message?
What type of Modem are they?
What is the ISP for Both?
Is it just the WAN locking up or the LAN as well?

  • RV042 DDNS connected in a private subnet

    Hi,
my RV042 is not able to propperly update my ddns. If you try to resolve my dyndns subnet kitus-network.dyndns.org you will get 192.168.0.2. How can I make the router update my ddns with the real public ip rather than the private ip it "sees" on the WAN interface?
    Thanks

    Hi Jonathan,
You may try either of these.
    1. Configure your DSL modem as a bridge, not a router. Your RV042 will get the public IP and update Dyndns accordingly.
    2. For some DSL modems (in my case it was a ZTE vDSL modem) it is possible to tell the RV042 to use PPPoE as authentication - and it gets the public IP as well. (Don't ask why it works this way. It just works. If, however you set RV042 to get WAN side IP via DHCP, then it gets a private IP from teh DSL modem, can route to DSL modem, but will not be able to update the right public IP to Dyndns.)
    Hope it helps,
    Janos

  • RV042 Bandwidth problem

    Hello,
we use the RV042 as gateway with a 50Mbit glasfiber connection but get only 20Mbit up and 20Mbit down.
If i connect my PC directly to the internet i get full bandwidth up and down.
I tried all settings but no chance.
    BR,
    Roman

Have you tried setting the MTU to manual and adjusting the MTU? I would try this and see if you see a difference. Also
I would look at disabling the SPI-Stateful Packet Inspection under the Firewall tab.

  • WRT54g DDNS problems

I am trying to set up FTP so family outside my network can access my files, however under the DDNS area of my router it displays the wrong internet IP address for my network. For some reason it will only display 192.168.1.7, instead of my actual IP.  It will not let my change it either. I have tried to upgrade the firmware and still nothing. I am tryng to set it up to work with DynDNS.org but 192.168.1.7 will not work in place of my actual IP. So if there is a way to change this in the router then I will be ok.

    Who is your ISP ?
Under the DDNS tab it will display you the IP address which you are getting it from your ISP... To find out the WAN IP address which your ISP is providing your, Login to the Router setup page and then click on the "Status Tab". I think it will the same IP address which you have mentioned in your Post...
Well its not possible to change the Internet IP address under the DDNS tab, it will be automatically released when your ISP will release that IP address.

  • BUG: RV042 (1.3.12.19-tm) not ready for Win7 RDP ?

    Hello,
we used a CISCO RV042 with Firmware version:  1.3.12.19-tm  (CPU: Intel IXP425-266, DRAM: 32M, Flash: 8M) with a  "Gateway to Gateway" VPN Tunnel connected to a CISCO1921/K9-SEC with ZBF. The  Tunnel works fine.
A connection to a WinXP (Professional) RDP works permanent. Then we had to connect to a Win7 (Professional) RDP: the  connection was established, but is canceled with different  error-messages by the "RDP-Server" on the "RV042 LAN". Problems with the  host-cert or RDP-Server not ready was announced. (???) We started a trouble-shooting on both sides and can't find a clear statement in the log-data on CISCO or Windows Harwdare.
    Then we replaced the RV042 with a RV042G V01 with Firmware version: 4.2.1.02 -
No problems with RDP to Win7 RDP anymore !
We only chnaged the hardware - VPN configuration on CISCO1921 and RV042G was not changed.
    Is RV042 (1.3.12.19-tm) not ready for Win7 RDP ?
    Grüße
    Stefan

dondersconsulting schrieb:it works fine with Server 2008R2 RDP, which should be same as Win7.
You are using a IPSec Tunnel to an RV042 (not the Client feature!) and you can connect to an Server 2008R2 to RDP trough the tunnel ?
dondersconsulting schrieb:Are you connecting the RDP session through the VPN? If so, I'm not sure why the RV042 would have anything to do with the RDP session.
Yes, we are connecting via IPSec from a CISCO1921 to the RV042. I think that the RV042 has problems with it's own Stateful Firewall related to the local routing throug the IPSec tunnel. In this case the RDP protocol has changed on the Microsoft side from to .
dondersconsulting schrieb:If you are connecting directly through the internet using Forwarding or UPnP, then it should work fine.
Thats not our setup and is far away from any security policies on our side ...
dondersconsulting schrieb:The only thing that throws a flag for me is the certificate message.  The RV042 uses an SSL cert for various things, but there is no clear way to refresh this cert when it gets corrpted.  For some reason it is hidden in the VPN client setup - look for the button at the bottom that says "Generate" - use this to create a new certificate, then save the settings and reboot the router.I'm not sure that this is the issue, but it shouldn't hurt anything to reset the certificate.  If you have a valid signed certificate to import, that might be even better.
The Certs you discribe are going with the "Client To Gateway" feature and we are using "Gateway To Gateway" feature.
I think the RV042 is working fine with the IPSec-Tunnel Feature "Gateway To Gateway". It works fine with WinXP Hosts connecting RDP through the tunnel - but using Win7 RDP the RDP Sessiopn breaks with all avaiable Error Messages in a random output on any Win-Client (WinXP and Win7) - we teste with 5 ! different machines ...
I looks like Firewall Bug on the RV042.

  • DDNS error on WRP400 with firmware version: 2.00.26

I have recently upgraded my WRP400 with the latest firmware (2.00.26) and found that the DDNS updating function with dyndns.org is stopped.
I made tests with the previous firmwares (2.00.20 and even with the old 1.01.00) and DDNS updating works with these older firmwares and stops immediately when the new 2.00.26 firmware is applied.
The reason why I need to upgrade to the latest fw, because I have the very annoying issue with the WRP400's stoppages. The release notes for the .26 firmware tells this is fixed now. btw, after the fw update it has stopped only once in 3 days...(!) but this is far better than the daily 2 or more stops...
I need the DDNS service, and I want a stop-free router at the same time. I know, our world is not that easy today, but please...

    Hi Szabolcs,
I do have the same problem.
I do use more them 10 WRP400 devices, and I am still using fw 2.00.20 due to the DDNS problem.
WRP400 could be a very nice device, but it simply doesn't performs as it should. And in my opinion, the list of supported USB modems is simply to short.
I am already considering chaning from supplier and try to find a different and working solution in the market.
I also found out that the router, from time to time need to be reseted (it simply stops performing as it should). So, as there is no auto reset option, I need o use Plug In Timers to reset them once every day.
So, as you can see, I also would like to see a solution for this problem...

As you can see, VPN channel can't be established due to invalid peer id sent by our customer's router (as I know it's a Juniper).
My RV042 has public ip and is not behind NAT but the customer's router is. The customer's tech guy have verified the RV042's settings and said they're correct. He also said that he can't change settings on their side and have suggested me to try other router's model.
So, basically I have two questions:
    1) Is it possible to do something with RV042 (somehow configure it to ignore remote peer id, etc.)?
    2) What hardware would you recommend as replacement of RV042 (for ~300-500 euro)? It's not necessary to be a high performance hardware, just simple and reliable one which can handle 1-3 VPN channels with low load and can support DMZ. What about Cisco 881-SEC-K9 and ASA5505-50-BUN-K9?
    Thanks in advance,
    Vitali

Hi Vitali, I don't think the problem is the RV042, the problem is probably the configuration. If the Juniper end point is behind a NAT then you should build your VPN tunnel to the gateway address that is NAT'ing the Juniper and then that device should be forwarding the requests to the Juniper to handle. Otherwise, your Juniper should have NAT-T enabled.

  • RV042 PPPoA via bridged thompson 595v7

    Hi,
I  have recently purchased the rv042, I have two broadband connections  both PPPoA, the first has a static IP and connects with the rv042 no  problem (via a Thompson 585v7 in bridge mode).
The  second has a dynamic IP. I have set the Thompson 585 'modem' in to  bridge mode and when I connect via Ethernet to a PC, the PC is given an  external IP...ie bridge mode working correctly.
In  the rv042 I set the WAN2 connection type as PPPoE, however the rv043  requires a username and password and my ISP does not use one.
When  I click save setting on the rv042 the display is updated with some  characters in the password field, even though I left them blank.
I have followed the full procedure from this article:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps9923/products_qanda_item09186a0080a369fb.shtml
expect entering the username and password as there isn't one.
My ISP's settings can be seen here:
    http://www.beusergroup.co.uk/technotes/index.php?title=Settings_for_other_routers
    RV042 firmware version: 1.3.13.02-tm
Thompson routers both have latest firmware.
Any support with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

  • Time-out problems with RV320 (after upgrade from RV042)

    config:
    dual wan
    WAN1: 4G router (DHCP) - approx 25Mbit/ 8Mbit
    WAN2: PPOE (DSL) - 1 Mbit/ 0.2 Mbit
worked with a RV042 before and upgraded to a RV320 now.
    all other things are unchanged.
    3 problems - 2 solved/ not critical - one still open:
    a) not critical:  DHCP Status does not include all devices (changing view - but all-time problem)
I would suspect a software bug.... DHCP itself works perfectly/ IPs are assigned (just not shown in status)
    b) solved (at least for now):  internet connection featured time-outs; after many tries, disabling the SPI in the firewall helped
btw: this only happend for the WAN1 - WAN2 worked  (or is that slow that the additonal wait time did not matter ;-)
    c) very annoying: exchange connection (from Outlook client to external exchange) still has time-outs (mostly the whole mail client hangs/ ends to be restarted).
As soon as I disable WAN1, it works!  But it´s not the LTE WAN itself - switching back to the RV042 does not show the same symptom.
I tried: include IP into local DNS (in general I work with google DNS servers - but changing that does not help either), opening all traffic for teh realevant IPs and disabling the firewall completely.  no positive results....
    thanks for any hints....

I agree with you on a, probably a bug of some sort.
b is an issue I've seen before, and even on similar bandwidth (25/5) on my rv016.  What was able to figure out is that the carrier (ISP) is sending about 4k/sec of ICMP packets to the router, which in turn makes the router think it's under attack so it drops the connection.  As you can tell, disabling the SPI helps.  For me, putting another router in front of my rv016 (on 2 of 3 wans) was my only 'permanent' solution.
c sounds like there's a protocol binding/static route in the rv042 that you need to add to the rv320.  I'd check that first.

  • RV042 load balancing problem

We have two network connections coming into the office. One is a private WAN and the other is an internet WAN. We have a RV042 Router configured for load balancing. On Wan1 we have our private WAN which includes Exchange, and 6 VPNs. On WAN2 we have a Public IP, and workers from home. Both connections are 5Mg T1s and both have the ability to reach the internet but only wan2 has a public IP (76.x.x.x) were as WAN1 has a private IP. (10.x.x.x).
Now were the problem lies is our new web based Payroll system does not support load balancing. We have to shutdown one side when we want to do payroll (turn load balancing off.)
Now is there a way to make our payroll computers only use one side? modify host file maybe? Or force a certain MAC address to only use WAN1 OR is there a better router that can Accomplish this?
    Any help would be appreciated
    Peter Labelle

I ran in to this problem at a client where we had an RV042.  Different scenario though.  We had 2 static IP from 2 different ISP's.  We had an accounting program that used HTTPS on port 443 hosted at a different location.  We had to bind outgoing port 443 to WAN1 to prevent disconnect problems.  This caused a problem in case that internet connection went down.
What we did was create a service on the RV042 for TCP port 4433 and binded the traffic to WAN2.  On the side hosting the accounting package we created a rule in that router to translate all public port 4433 requests to internal 443 requests.
On the workstations we had to leave 2 desktop shortcuts one that pointed to 443 and one to 4433.  That way if one link doesn't work they can just use the second link.
It's not the best solution but at least it works until they ok a swap out to a router that supports better binding.
I'm not provided this as a solution but maybe it can spark an idea of a workaround.
I know a company called Xincom use to make a dual wan router that was decently priced that supported strict binding per internal ip address.  The build quality wasn't the best and they use to die all the time but maybe their new units are better.  When they worked though they were very good and I never had a problem.

    hey guys!
decided to rewrite this entire question...it was too hard to understand what i want.
I have a student version of server 2012 r2. I installed like 50 roles, and then deleted 90% of them. i have....a bunch of webserver roles, almost all of them i bet, and misc others. no AD or dns roles..i deleted those i thought they might have been the problem.
I connected this to a dynamic dns courtesy of No-ip.com. example.ddns.net
when installing a blog or cms, and I am asked for the server name (for database) do i use localhost, 192.168.1.###, my router ip, computer name, example.ddns.net, or something else?
Same question above for iis bindings! What do i put for the host?
secondly, what file permissions do i set up? I can't seem to access umbraco, for example, from outside the network unless i use windows admin credentials in the physical path credentials via IIS advanced options.

    Hi,
The issue is related to IIS, I suggest you ask for help from IIS forum for better and accurate answer to the question.
