RV042 DHCP Gateway Settings

I have a core routing switch along with my RV042.  I am using the RV042 for DHCP, BUT I would like to issue a different default gateway than the router itself.  I'd rather give the address of the core switch as the default gateway to my DHCP clients as I have to route to various other VLAN's.  Instead now  I have to do static routes in the RV042 to get back to those when it would be cleaner if I can just get the RV042 to issue a different Default Gateway to DHCP clients.  Is this possible?

I don't think you are understanding the request.  I want the RV042 to remain the external gatway router.  The core swotch is configured to use it as the last hop to the internet for all VLAN's.  My simple issue is when using DHCP on the RV042 it gives clients It's own address 192.168.100.1 as the gateway.  I want to CHANGE that entry to simply give clients 192168.100.10 as the gateway which is the core switch interface.  I don't have a physical DHCP server on the network and I am trying to avoid routing through the RV042 when I have a high speed core routing switch.  I just want the RV042 to stay as the last hop gateway and simple change the DHCP gateway entry it's handing out to clients.  This really is a simple request and I feel can be done with the telnet console given the right login credentials and the commands to make the change in the DHCP server settings.
This has nothing to do with physical port connectivity, it's a question about the DHCP server configuration in the device, and both WAN ports are already in use for dual WAN connectivity.

  • WLAN Gateway settings

    Hi
Does anyone know if its possible to configure Gateway settings without configuring static IP adresses in IPV4 settings of access points configuration settings.

Usually that's not possible because the DHCP server sends the client that information along with its lease and the nameservers to use. I doubt it's possible to override that behaviour since the DHCP client needs the gateway given to it by the DHCP server, and no other, in order to talk with the outside world.

  • Dhcp issues / settings

Until 2 weeks ago dhcp worked fine using range 10.0.0.3-255, subnet mask255.0.0.0, and default gateway 10.0.0.254 and dns server 10.0.0.3 We have about 40 macs and the same no of pcs. The pcs have started showing the following settings ipaddress 192.168.1.73 eg subnet 255.255.255.0 default gateway 192.168.1.1 dhcp server 192.168.1.1 dns servers 64.86.133.51 and 63.243.173.162. The macs are unable to log onto the network for the same reason and I have had to assign a static address to the various computers to get round this problem. It happens when they have been switched off on are unable to see the network on startup.
Any ideas what is going on.

You might actually want to run a virus scanner on your PC's. If you don't have an up to date version, there are free scans out there.

  • Set a DHCP gateway for WRT300N

Dear Friends Hello I have to networks with IP ranges 192.169.1.x & 192.168.1.x I want to connect this two networks, the problem is that the ip address of gateway is 192.168.1.1 and the IP address of router(WRT300N) is 192.168.1.2 I don't have windows server, and i can't set static IP for all of users How can I set a gateway in DHCP settings ?

You can't do this with your WRT. It is a broadband router with limited configuration options. One limitation is that the DHCP server in the WRT always uses its own IP address as gateway IP address. You cannot freely configure the DHCP server. It is supposed to be a broadband router, i.e. it is supposed to host the internet connection and thus be the default gateway.
Technically, you only want to route a subnet differently and not the whole internet. Thus the default route/gateway is the wrong place to modify.
The proper solution would be to add a static route for the other subnet on all client computers. Then the computers will correctly route the traffic. The proper solution would also be to run your own DHCP servers to do the IP assignment there and not assign any gateway address at all.
If you don't want to do that you can only add a static route on the routers to reroute the traffic for the other subnet.
First of all, please renumber the IP subnet 192.169.1.* to a private IP address, e.g. 192.168.2.*. 192.169.1.* is a public IP address and should not be used for private addresses.
Now say, you have the computers with the modem link sitting on 192.168.1.1/255.255.255.0 and 192.168.2.1/255.255.255.0.
The routers with DHCP server enabled sit on 192.168.1.2/255.255.255.0 and 192.168.2.2/255.255.255.0.
Now add a static route on the router 192.168.1.2 on the advanced routing page:
route destination LAN IP 192.168.2.0, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 to gateway 192.168.1.1 on the LAN interface.
    likewise on 192.168.2.2 add:
route destination LAN IP 192.168.1.0, subnet mask 255.255.255.0 to gateway 192.168.2.1 on LAN interface.
With those two routes in place you should be able to use the Diagnostics tools on the Administration tab of the router to ping or traceroute IP addresses in the other subnet.
These routes should also redirect the traffic from the computers to the other subnet. You should make sure that the firewalls on all computers are not configured to block ICMP (in particular ICMP redirects). The router will tell the computers the correct gateway address for the traffic, i.e. the computer will only send the first packet to the router and then learns that the correct destination is the computer with the modem link and forwards everything directly there. Many firewalls are overzealous and unnecessarily block ICMP breaking many IP mechanism for troubleshooting and optimization. Therefore: make sure your firewalls are turned off or correctly configured. Otherwise you unnecessarily route all your traffic to the other subnet through the router as well.
Again: i would rather recommend to set up your own DHCP server and set static routes on the computers or push the routes through DHCP.

  • Rv042 dhcp dns suffix error

    hi,
rv042 after configuring dhcp is giving to clients dns with appended  suffix
how can I take out append dns suffix? because when I ping server, for  example, inside lan, automatically transform in server.mydomain.com and return  error, of cours....
how can i delete host name and domain name from network setup?
all the problems appeare after i put theas fields...
    thanks

Take a look under your DHCP settings on the router (this is under LAN), you should see a field labeled "Domain", leave it blank. Also you should place DNS server entries for your clients to resolve domains out side of your network. This is also in the same area, sorry its been a while and don't remember the exact tab.
    Suggested external DNS:
    208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220 -- These are OpenDNS servers
    8.8.8.8
8.8.4.4 -- These are Google Public DNS servers

  • DHCP subnet settings blasted by 10.7.1 server update?

I dutifully applied the 10.7.1 update this evening to my Mini Server (July 2011) and restarted.
Some of the clients on my network were fine but others - those whose DHCP leases expired - had issues getting a new lease.  In fact, when these devices were restarted they could not get an IP address at all.
After fiddling around it seems that the subnet which was on previously had been set to off by the reboot.  Re-checking the subnet seemed to work but only partially.  Some of the subnet settings had been flushed too.  Specifically, the router, DNS and search domain settings were reset.
On resetting these settings it all came back to life.
BTW, After much frustration over the past few weeks I have gone with the 192.168.2.xxx set up as proscribed in the k-base article which had been working fine for me until this update.
Looking forward to 10.7.3?  I can't imagine all these bugs will be ironed out in the next point release...
Has any one tried using settings other than the settings in the knowledge base article under 10.7.1?

There is a Lion Server Forum where you might be able to get help.

    Colin R.

  • WRT350N DHCP Server Settings Firmware Version: v1.03.6

In the Basic Setup/DHCP Server Setting menu the value displayed for the starting IP address is always 192.168.1.100 and the Maximum Number of Users: is always 50. If I change the values (for example to 192.168.1.2 and 253) and select Save Settings, the edit boxes gray and I get the Settings are Successful message. Status/Local Network/DHCP Server shows the correct (the one I set) IP address start and range. Obviously, this is just an annoyance but it behaves this way regardless of using Firefox or IE browsers. My WRT300N updated the Basic Setup page when I modified the DHCP settings. I don't recall whether the WRT350N behaved this way on previous firmware revisions.

    hi guru69,
i've been using my WRT350N with firmware 1.03.2 for a couple of months now and have not encoutered problems yet. Well, aside from the ntfs write problem that was fixed with the latest fw..
when I tried using a share name with a $ sign, it said that it only allows alphanumeric , dashes and underscores. So this would mean that this is a limitation on the firmware. Linksys can probably add this feature on the next firmware (hopefully!) Same goes with the 6-8 character password.
For the https only access, Ive been using it, and so far no problems. If I try it with just http, it goes back with a page cannot be displayed error.
The time on the Status page is updated on my unit.
And as for the DHCP Clients table, I did not have to enable DMZ to view the connected clients.
Well, I must admit, I got curious with you post that's why I tested my router.

  • RV042 - Losing time settings + VPN issue

    Symptoms:
Time/date settings "forgotten" after approximately 6 days of uptime
After setting up time/date settings, a full power cycle "forgets them again"
Cisco quickVPN connection from INSIDE RV042 network to an OUTSIDE vpn server stops connecting... at all.
A full power cycle to the RV042 restores connectivity
    Facts:
This router is 2 weeks old, right out of box
Upgraded firmware to latest prior to installation
This router is a 1:1 replacement for the SAME MODEL (RV042 V3 - 8 months old) that exhibited the SAME symptoms.
VPN tunnels (2x always-on site to site) work fine
port forwarding and firewall settings work fine for SBS server (HTTP, HTTPS, VPN, RDP, SMTP, POP3, outlook anywhere, etc.) even when symptom #3 is present.
The previous model was runnning the stock out-of-box firmware when it started to exhibit the above symptoms, and was upgraded to the latest firmware, where it was functional for about 6 days before re-exibiting the above symptoms.
At wit's end with this model...  I love it to death, but its the little things that really make you wonder if there's something better out there at the same price point ($150-$200 USD).
Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?
    Thanks in advance,
    Matthew

    Jason, Thanks for replying.
I know it doesn't have a battery...  but if I set the time and date manually, it shouldn't lose the manual settings in the event of a power outage, and change its configuration on its own.
For part #3, I'm saying that if I initiate a connection from LAN side of the RV042 using QVPN to another router, it will connect if it's not "acting up" with the symptoms above.  If it IS "acting up", then the only thing that will restore connectivity for the QVPN connection is a power cycle of the router only.  Power cycling the PC, modem, or network switch has no bearing.
The QVPN connection is from one of the user's PC to an outside company.  We have no control of the end-point, but I can assume that if they are utilizing the QVPN client, they are probably using a Cisco router of some kind.  Even when this RV042 is acting up, if I try the QVPN from another location (outside of this client's office, such as starbucks, my office, or via cellular internet connection), it works fine and connects as expected.
When the RV042 is "acting up", QVPN does not work from any other PC within the client's office as well.
So far we've tried the stock firmware, the latest and greatest, and several in between, and all exhibit the same functionality.  Please also bear in mind that this is the second RV042 that had the same issue, purchased from two different vendors.

  • RSV4000 DHCP Gateway address problem

I have an RSV4000 which I'm using as a gateway. I changed the default 192.168.1.0/24 network to 10.255.255.0/24 and configured the DHCP address pool to use 64 host addresses starting at 10.255.255.64
Every so often users on VLAN 1 get a gateway IP address of 192.168.1.1 even though they received a DHCP address of 10.255.255.64, 65, 66, etc.
I ran a packet capture and the RSV4000 is actually giving out the wrong gateway address.
I have to power cycle the RSV4000 and it works until some random point in time, then starts giving out the wrong gateway address again.
Is Cisco going to fix this?
    I'm running version 1.3.2.0 and I do not have the V4 model so I can't run v2.0.0.3

    Hey mdoldan,
Were you the one that upgraded the firmware of 1.3.2.0 on the router or did you receive it like that.
This is a very odd case, where it is giving out ip address on the default lan even though you changed it.
Have you tried reflashing the firmware, factory resetting the router and reloading the configurations back to it.
I would try that and see if the problem persist.

  • RV042 DHCP screen is blank

I cannot setup the DHCP on the router, the page has no content.

    Hi,
Try factory resetting the device and using IE 8 to access the router.

  • Detailed DHCP server settings

    Hi
I have an Airport Extreme base station which I want to use to replace an existing, unreliable, router on my network. I want the Airport to distribute DHCP leases to other devices on the network and I want to specify the IP range it distributes (various devices on the network have static IP addresses so it needs to use the same IP range). I haven't been able to find how to set this in the rather simplistic Airport utility which came with the base station. Can anyone explain how to do this kind of detailed configuration which on most base stations is done via an internal web interface.
    Thanks

I'm afraid you are limited to using the AirPort Utility to set this up and as you have discovered, what you can do is VERY limited. You're stuck with a Class C network only, so if you have fixed IPs that come from a wider range of addresses (Class B or A), you're stuck. You CANNOT use an AirPort as your DHCP server and/or router:-(
There's no real reason for the AirPort to be so crippled, just stupidity on Apple's part and it prevents many potential users (like me) from utilising an AirPort as a router. It's just dumb.
I'd be delighted to be proved wrong on this and find that the latest AirPort Extremes have this restriction removed, but I don't believe that to be the case.

  • Mac Version 8.0.12 (Build 25282) of Remote Desktop deletes all connection and gateway settings on startup

    Hello,
I have a frustrating issue with MRD for Mac Version 8.0.12 (Build 25282). The application was interrupted while updating a few days ago and started throwing errors when I attempted to launch it. I deleted the app using Launchpad and reinstalled via the App
Store. Ever since the initial reinstall (and subsequent ones) the app will pop the "What's New?" version update window (even if I select the "Don't show this again" checkbox) and all of my saved settings are missing.
I would like to clear out all app data and try reinstalling but I can't find where MRD stores data on my system. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Eric C.

    Hi Eric,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
So from your description it seems that your remote desktop (MRD) is working fine but facing issue that can’t store the related setting (cache issue). So you can check whether you have any related logs from MAC MRD which give us any light for further research.

  • DSL, LAN, DHCP & DNS settings.

I am having trouble with setting up my Solaris 10 on the internet. I use SBC DSL for my Windows and Linux programs without any problems. But, the Solaris can't access eth0, or my modem for a direct connection, and I can't establish a proxy connection. I could run a successful ping on lo0, but with ifconfig, I get an empty page. A colleague/teacher said I might have to manually configure the NIC card, but I've had no success as of yet! Can anyone shed some light on the steps I need to take?
    Thanks in advance!
