RV042, protocol binding problem

Hello everybody,
I have some problem with my RV042 router and my internet connections. (               Firmware version :                     1.3.12.19-tm  (Feb 13 2009 13:03:21) )
The rv042 is connected to one ADSL (WAN2) connection and one SDSL (WAN1) connection. We have dynamic ip address on ADSL and static ip address on SDSL.
For a specific utilization we have to use SDSL because we need an IP to be authorized to connect to a monitoring tool.
To summarize, all the HTTP traffic will go through WAN2 (ADSL for better download rate), and for specific needs some HTTP traffic have to go through WAN1).
You can see on the attached picture, you can see two rules :
The rule A is the one i would like to make it working.
The rule B handles all the HTTP traffic.
If i deactivate B, rule A works and when B is activated again, A doesn't work anymore.
I think the more general rule B matched the packets before they could be matched by rule A. It's not the right behavior i think, as firewalls will do.
Best regards,
Germain

Hello,
we have the same problem for binding all our HTTP traffic trough WAN2.
Our technical conditions go together with yours:
WAN2 Dynamic ADSL For all HTTP traffic
WAN1 Static SDSL For all other services
We have tried some UPnP and forwarding constelations, but none of this
configuration tests/profiles will work correctly..
We want to benefit some of your answers, but they don't work.
Can any one of you demonstrate how to bind the complete HTTP traffic to
the WAN2 interface?
We would very appreciate for your suggestet solution.

  • RV042 - protocol binding not working as advertised

    Hello everyone.  I seem to have an issue that I cannot find a solution to and was hoping the support community would be able to help.  The platform I am trying this on is the RV042.  I have updated the firmware to 4.2.3.03.
    The scenario for this configuration involves two RV042 routers.
    The office router will only have one ISP.
    The remote router will have two ISP where WAN1 will have a high-speed Internet link and WAN2 will have a satellite high-latency Internet link.
    I can establish WAN1 on the remote router to create a VPN tunnel back to the office router.  This works great.  However, I was hoping to use "Protocol Binding" to direct a Service (TCP/5000) to only transmit over WAN2.  I was hoping to dedicate WAN2 (satellite connection) specifically for this Service and no other traffic can transmit over WAN2 (even if WAN1 was offline).  In the case that WAN2 is offline, this Service will fail on transmit as well.
    I am having issues getting this to work.  I have created a custom Service for TCP/5000.  I have created the "Protocol Binding" for this Service where I have used the computer performing the transmission (192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.100) to destination (0.0.0.0 to 0.0.0.0) on WAN2.
    The problem I have now is if WAN1 goes down (or disconnected), all traffic goes over WAN2.  This includes HTTP, HTTPS, etc.  On a satellite connection, this can get very costly.  Also, if I disconnect WAN2 and leave WAN1 online, I noticed this TCP/5000 traffic is transmitted successfully as well.
    This leads me to believe that my Protocol Binding is not configured properly.  I have found a few discussions and Internet articles regarding protocol binding with similar issues, but no solution has been given.
    I hope someone out there can help!!

    Hello l0p3zz187,
    Unfortunately at the Small Business level of devices we do not have a device that will do as you need.  I would recommend contacting our Enterprise Presales team to see if they can suggest a device that will meet your needs.

  • RV042 protocol binding for SIP and RTP (VoIP)

    Hello everybody,
    I have a RV042 with a DSL (WAN1) and cable (WAN2) internet connection in Load Balance Mode. The DSL provider also provides internet telephony when registered via his line. When I disable the WAN2 port, my IP phone successully registers with the registration server of the DSL provider. I also defined protocol bindings for SIP (port 5060) and RTP (ports 5004 to 5020) to be bound to WAN1. My IP phone is set up to listen on only these ports.
    The rules are in detail:
    SIP(UDP/5060~5060) -> "myPhoneIP"~"myPhoneIP" ("RegistrationServerP"~"RegistrationServerIP") WAN1 [Enabled]
    SIP(UDP/5060~5060) -> "RegistrationServerIP"~"RegistrationServerIP" ("myPhoneIP"~"myPhoneIP") WAN1 [Enabled]
    RTP(UDP/5004~5020) -> "myPhoneIP"~"myPhoneIP" ("RegistrationServerP"~"RegistrationServerIP") WAN1 [Enabled]
    RTP(UDP/5004~5020) -> "RegistrationServerIP"~"RegistrationServerIP" ("myPhoneIP"~"myPhoneIP") WAN1 [Enabled]
    With these protocol bindings in place when I re-enable WAN2, then after some time the phone reports "registration failed".
    Do I need to set something else apart from protocol binding to force the VoIP traffic to go via WAN1?
    Thanks for your help
    Felix

    Pardon my memory if I am mistaken, when configuring the protocol bind for the WAN port, there are 4 or 5 options. Service, which of course is 1~65535, source IP, in this scenario it should be the phone or PBX, whatever you're using. The destination IP should be 0.0.0.0 and interface is your desired WAN, WAN 1 or 2.
    Example:
    Wan 1- Cable       Wan 2 - Dsl
           |                              |
           | ________________ |
                          |
                      RV042-----------
                  ____|                |
                  |                     Computer  192.168.10.100
              Tele/PBX 192.168.10.250
    On this example to route the Telephone / PBX to WAN 1
    All services 1~65535
    Source IP 192.168.10.250
    Destination IP 0.0.0.0
    Interface WAN 1
    Please correct me if I am mistaken, I'm currently not at work due to the US holiday

  • Protocol binding doesn't work for OVPN clients.

    As title, it seems protocol binding doesn't apply to users remote connecting via OVPN, meaning that even though I have a rule covering 172.0.0.1 - 172.0.0.254 for all traffic to wan2 the remote users outgoing traffic is still getting loadbalanced.
    This causes a problem for SSL sites as it's not hitting the rules to pin to wan2.

    I will have to verify this since the LRT OpenVPN Server shouldn't be using outgoing Load Balancing and get back to you.
    Please remember to Kudo those that help you.

  • RV016 Protocol Binding & Access Rules do not work on PPTP

    Hi
    I am Enabled PPTP Server and connection success, but can’t block the internet service by Protocol Binding and Access Rules for PPTP client.
    The PPTP Server:
    192.168.1.150~160
    Protocol Binding:
    HTTP [TCP/80~80] -> 192.168.1.150~160(0.0.0.0~0.0.0.0)
    Access Rules:
    1; Enable; Deny; HTTP [80]; LAN; 192.168.1.150~160; Any; Always
    Firmware Version: 3.0.0.19-tm
    I tried to test the setting by local PC connect the router directly. The rule is running.
    But by PPTP, it can go to internet. And confirmed the VPN IP is 192.168.1.150

    HI  Mr Krastew.
    Thank you for your reply.
    But i am not looking stop internet web service on my client side only.
    May be I explain more here.
    The client PC is running on intranet, that mean client network stopped all service [1~65535: TCP/UDP] pass through WAN. At this moment, the client network allows the PPTP Port 1723 pass through it only. And the Client PC is running on manual configure No DNS.
    And the client requests that client PC NO intranet service when PPTP VPN connected. So I can't Disable Using Remote Network Default Gateway on TCP/IP Configure.
    And Server (RV016), half of pc allow connect to internet.
    The Local PC in server LAN can control by ACL.
    The client connected by PPTP and the IP still within the ACL. But it can access internet all service. (e.g. FTP, HTTP).
    So I want to know it is my configure problem? Or the router own problem? Or my design problem?
    Now, I key in wrong DNS on client PC to Cheat the user for temporary.
    Best regards,

  • Will Protocol Binding with an Internal Email server work?

    The aim is to use Modem 2 in sending out emails. Modem 1 and Modem 2 are connected to WAN 1 and 2 respectively of the RV042 (set to load balancing). Protocol Binding was set for the mail server to use port 25 through WAN 2. When tested, traceroute and telnet indicates that it goes to WAN1. Access Rule was added, but still has the same results.
    Switching of ports was tried (Modem 2 in WAN 1 port and Modem 1 in WAN 2 port). Protocol Binding was set for the mail server to use port 25 through WAN 1. When tested, traceroute and telnet indicates that it goes to WAN2. Access Rule was added, but still has the same results.
    What can I do to make this work? Will this really work?

    Yes - you need to configure the IP address of the DNS servers in the SSL group policy you have created. If not - it is inherited from the default profile.

  • Add Both as an option on protocol binding.

    Please consider adding "Both" as an option on protocol binding to allow load balancing specific ports/destinations.
    It's needed to do things like Bind all IP trafic to ip XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX except traffic on port 80 where you'd put the port 80 > Both rule above the all traffic to XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX to wan2 rule. (I assume the rules are first match otherwise whats the move up/down for?)

    Hi dragon2611,
    I have read an article before with regard on the reason why having an option "BOTH"" may not be possible. According to that article, this is to avoid a condition where all WANs are assigned to specific Intranet IP or Service Ports and destination IP, resulting in no more WAN ports available for other IP addresses and Service Ports.

  • RV042G difference between bandwidth - protocol binding for WAN ports

    Can somebody explain a little bit better then the manual what the differences are between bandwidth management on WAN ports and protocol bindings?
    If you can specify in each section which protocol should go where why having two places to configure this?
    Or are there some things to remind when using one of them?

    Even if I tell the router to use bandwidth priority for SMTP to WAN2 (and i do not have protocol binding active for smtp to wan2) it still goes to wan1, how does the router choose this kind of behaviour?

  • RVO16 Protocol Binding Unexpected Behavior

    Good Afternoon. I have an RV016 device I have been running with a single WAN utilizing the Forwarding service to redirect any external requests appropriately. I now need to direct those requests to multiple systems. I have enabled multi-wan and am now utilizing two WANs with separate static IP addresses. I set up protocol binding for each WAN the same as how I had the Forwarding service configured, they are simply now WAN/Public IP specific, at least that is what I am hoping for. I removed the forwarding requests that existed previously as that section does not allow to specify which WAN port the requests come in on.
    When I am attempting to access my system utilizing protocol binding I am getting the RV016 authentication and not being forwarded to the appropriate internal/private system and service port. Am I missing something? Thank you.

    I changed to the tr:inputText with no better results. The side effect also is that this does not render correctly in an af:panelLayout control.
    <tr:inputText id="agencyId" label="Agency Id:" value="#{AgencyMaintenance.agency.id}" disabled="true"/>
    The HTML markup follows: (This is for the af:inputText)
    <tr id="agencyId" class="x1e p_AFDisabled">
    <td class="xu x4j">
    <label for="agencyId::content">Agency Id:</label>
    </td>
    <td class="xk7" valign="top" nowrap="">
    <input id="agencyId::content" class="x1p" type="text" disabled="" name="agencyId"/>
    </td>

  • RV042 load balancing problem

    We have two network connections coming into the office. One is a private WAN and the other is an internet WAN. We have a RV042 Router configured for load balancing. On Wan1 we have our private WAN which includes Exchange, and 6 VPNs. On WAN2 we have a Public IP, and workers from home. Both connections are 5Mg T1s and both have the ability to reach the internet but only wan2 has a public IP (76.x.x.x) were as WAN1 has a private IP. (10.x.x.x).
    Now were the problem lies is our new web based Payroll system does not support load balancing. We have to shutdown one side when we want to do payroll (turn load balancing off.)
    Now is there a way to make our payroll computers only use one side? modify host file maybe? Or force a certain MAC address to only use WAN1 OR is there a better router that can Accomplish this?
    Any help would be appreciated
    Peter Labelle

    I ran in to this problem at a client where we had an RV042.  Different scenario though.  We had 2 static IP from 2 different ISP's.  We had an accounting program that used HTTPS on port 443 hosted at a different location.  We had to bind outgoing port 443 to WAN1 to prevent disconnect problems.  This caused a problem in case that internet connection went down.
    What we did was create a service on the RV042 for TCP port 4433 and binded the traffic to WAN2.  On the side hosting the accounting package we created a rule in that router to translate all public port 4433 requests to internal 443 requests.
    On the workstations we had to leave 2 desktop shortcuts one that pointed to 443 and one to 4433.  That way if one link doesn't work they can just use the second link.
    It's not the best solution but at least it works until they ok a swap out to a router that supports better binding.
    I'm not provided this as a solution but maybe it can spark an idea of a workaround.
    I know a company called Xincom use to make a dual wan router that was decently priced that supported strict binding per internal ip address.  The build quality wasn't the best and they use to die all the time but maybe their new units are better.  When they worked though they were very good and I never had a problem.

    Hi
    Consider that I dont have FTP installed on my computer. According to this blog
    /people/shabarish.vijayakumar/blog/2006/08/01/along-came-a-file-adapter-mr-ftp-and-rest-of-the-gang
    I have configured.
    In sender comm channel I have given Ipaddress of computer 1 (which has a file to be picked)
    In Receiver Comm channel I have given IP address of computer 3 (in which file to be posted)
    and computer 2 is the XI server
    Computer 1 has FTP installed
    1. XI server should have FTP installed or not ? IF yes is it FTP client  or FTP server   or Guild FTP (according to the blog is enough)
    2. Computer 3 should have FTP installed or not ?
    Please help me I am really confused.

    Some feedback from engineering regarding this issue since the 9i release has been:
    "This is a known problem with signal handlers and the lazy binding we have on Mac OS X. A small change to how Oracle library's signal
    handler is installed using _signal_nobind(3) and
    _dyld_lookup_and_bind_fully(3) could help to solve this problem.
    The problem that we are trying to avoid is a possible dead lock from
    code that could be called in a signal handler when the thread that
    gets the signal is in the middle of lazy binding a symbol. So when a
    signal handlers installed the default action is to cause it to be
    bound fully. This is made very expensive by the mismatch of the
    interfaces to signal(3) and segvec(2) like routines which are passed
    an address and the dynamic linker that wants a global symbol name. So the end result is to call the routine _dyld_bind_fully_image_containing_address(3) with the address of the signal handler to be bound. Which binds everything in the image (in this case the Oracle shared library).
    We have had problems like this before. For example: [This is what is
    done in usleep(3)]
    usleep()
    /* code removed for this example */
    setvec(vec, sleepx);
    #ifdef __DYNAMIC__
    _dyld_lookup_and_bind_fully("_usleep", NULL, NULL);
    (void) _sigvec_nobind(SIGALRM, &vec, &ovec);
    #else
    (void) sigvec(SIGALRM, &vec, &ovec);
    #endif
    static void sleepx(int unused)
    ringring = 1;
    The use of _sigvec_nobind(2) (or _signal_nobind(3) ) and the use of
    _dyld_lookup_and_bind_fully(3) will cause just the needed symbols used by the signal handler. "
    It seems this issue hasn't been resolved in the most recent 10g client release.Can anyone shed some light one this issue?
    For better demonstration, here is a series of steps we took here:
    sigaction.c - C file produced by "proc sigaction.pc"
    sigaction.pc - ProC source file
    gcc_sig* - Shell script to compile sigaction.c
    ktrace.sigtest - raw ktrace output from running sigtest
    ktrace.sqlplus - raw ktrace output from running sqlplus
    kdump.sqlplus - output of kdump -R on ktrace.sqlplus
    kdump.sigtest - output of kdump -R on ktrace.sigtest
    sigaction.lis - auxiliary file produced by proc
    1. sigaction.pc:
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <stdlib.h>
    #include "/Users/oracle/10g/orahome/precomp/public/sqlca.h"
    int main(int argc, char **argv) {

    EXEC SQL CONNECT :con_str;
    EXEC SQL SELECT SYSDATE INTO :date FROM DUAL;
    printf("SYSTEM DATE = %s\n",date);
    EXEC SQL COMMIT RELEASE;
    2. gcc_sig:
    #!/bin/sh
    CFLAGS="-I$ORACLE_HOME/precomp/public -I/usr/include"
    CFLAGS="$CFLAGS -I$ORACLE_HOME/lib -L$ORACLE_HOME/lib"

    CC="gcc -g"
    PROG=$1
    OUTPUT=$2
    $CC $CFLAGS $PROG -o $OUTPUT $ORALIBS
    3. Generate the rest of the output files for your viewing of the results based on the commands provided above.
    Thanks!

    It's a delay, not a deadlock, that originatesfrom the way Oracle
    libraries handle dymaic bindings.to "dynamic" bindings. Maybe prebinding could help ?

  • *URGENT* Forms 6i on XP - "no such protocol adapter" problem

    Hello,
    I seem to have run into a common problem but mine has a twist.
    I have a laptop with Windows XP that I have installed Oracle 8.1.7.3.0 on. That works fine.
    I have a project that has me connected to Oracle O.com network. I can connect fine to that using my initial Oracle installation.
    I needed to install Oracle 6i and ran into a few problems, but found recommended work arounds which included me installing it in a seperate directory as Windows 95 or windows 98. I installed it in C:/oracle/developer. I can open existing forms to work on them.
    What I can't do is connect to my O.com connection using the Developer or the Sqlplus 8.0 version that is included with it.
    Per this website http://metalink.oracle.com/oracleinstall/oracle8i/windows.html#MSfive
    I have run through the net80 configuration process.
    I have copied my working tnsnames.ora file to all possible locations that the developer version would pick up (including of course c:\oracle\developer\net80\admin).
    I have changed the required sqlnet.ora file to sqlnet.old.
    I rebooted.
    The listener and database start on their own, so I don't have to start them from the dos prompt.
    Any attempt to connect to the O.com or my local database using the Developer sqlplus or Developer itself results in the message - "ERROR: ORA-12222: TNS:no such protocol adapter".
    If I try to connect to some made up database name, I get a "could not resolve service name" message. So I can tell that it least recognizes my database names defined in the tnsname.ora file.
    If anyone has installed Forms 6i on XP and ran into similar problems and fixed them, or if anyone has any clue as to what I need to do to fix this, I'll be immensely grateful.
    Thanks.
    Kurt

    It occurs to me that perhaps I need to install a second version of the listener, specifically for my forms environment. Is this the case?
    Thanks again.
