RV042, quickVPN hangs

I have 5 static IP addresses from my cable provider.  One IP address is for my network that I use IPCop as my firewall.  I have setup the RV042 router+vpn appliance with a different IP address so I can access my network remotely.  When I am connected to the RV042 directly I get an IP address from my home network (10.1.x.x).  When I try to connect from my friends house with DSL, behind a dlink router, my vpn client hangs at "verifying network" and then I get gateway not responding.  I have tried connecting directly to my cable router, configuring my network card with a third static IP from my cable provider, and get the same error.  Any suggestions?

I have 5 static IP addresses from my cable provider.  One IP address is
for my network that I use IPCop as my firewall.  I have setup the RV042
router+vpn appliance with a different IP address so I can access my
network remotely.
I just want to make sure that I am clear with your set up and what you are saying. From your original quote you state that you have 5 public IPs, and two (as of this point) are being used; one for IPCop and the other for the RV042 WAN connection.
Keeping in mind that the whole time you are trying to connect via QVPN.
Here is where I get a little lost:
When I am connected to the RV042 directly I get an IP address from my home network (10.1.x.x).
Not really sure what you meant. Did you mean you connected from your house to the RV by using the PPTP VPN server feature on the RV042, or did you mean you connected  to the RV using QVPN and your home router issued you a 10.1.x.x IP address?
When using QVPN; the connection established is an IPSec connection, so you will not receive an IP address from the remote router. This type of VPN connection creates a route statement on the participating routers so you are able to access the remote site and network resources.
I have tried connecting directly to my cable router, configuring my
network card with a third static IP from my cable provider, and get the
same error.
Here I understood that from your home (remote location - not local to the RV042) you assigned your computer a public IP address (a third of the original five) and you were still not able to connect. Now I would assume that at both locations home and work (RV042 side) you have the same ISP and you block of five IPs would be valid at either location.
So, working with that assumption what is the local IP address of your network on both sides of the tunnel?
One thing that can not be is having the same network ID on both sides of the tunnel. So if I connect from my home which has an internal IP address scheme of 172.16.10.20 the internal IP address of the RV cannot be 172.16.10.x.
This is what the tunnel whether established or not should look like:
IP: 172.16.20.1 (LAN) << == >> RV042 (WAN) 64.23.x.x <<==>> CLOUD <<==>> 159.35.x.x (WAN) "HOME ROUTER" <<==>>(LAN) 192.168.12.1 IP --- QVPN client
NOTE: the ip numbers do not matter so long both sides are different networks as shown. This would also be a different network: 192.168.20.x  and 192.168.30.x both with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0.
Some other notes which may have already been mentioned is that if your PC is Vista the Firewall must be running, but if XP the Firewall needs to be turned off. In XP turning of the firewall via the GUI may not be enough, you may want to disable the service and try again. You can do this by clicking "Start" > "Run" then type "services.msc" (with out quotes) hit enter. Browse the serivces window for "Windows Firewall (ICS)" and just STOP the service while testing. If that works, then you may want to disable the service.
On a later post you stated:
Thanks for the information.  I am able to connect but I still am not
getting an IP address from my dhcp server and cannot connect to any of
my network resources.
Remmember you will not get an IP address from the remote side (RV042 network), but you should be able to get to shares via IP address. Later you said that you were not able to ping; don't get too hung up on not being able to ping, as the device you pinging may not be set to respong with echos. Try testing the connection using know running services of the remote site, such as file shares, remote desktop, VNC and so on. Maybe open up a command prompt and launch a telnet session to the DHCP server on port 67 and see if you are able to get there (the session should not time out).
Let us know what you are able to find.
Hope this helps a little.

I initially thought it was the DSL router on the client side that was the problem, but I was able to successfully vpn in using the same client version, same login/pw credentials with my laptop using the same dsl router.  I have done all kinds of research on this issue, and have come up blank.  So far, I have eliminated the Cisco RV082 router, the QuickVPN client, the DSL router on the client side, and the setup.  Obviously the problem probably lies with the actual system.  But I don't know where else to look.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Dear Friends
I wish you are fine ........ QuickVPN is very bad utility and unstable ....... I tried TheGreenBow VPN Client and it works very well ......... Here is the torrent link for software:

  • RV042 & QuickVPN - Several Problems / Reconnect timelimit

    Hello Everyone,
I have a RV042 with latest Firmware installed on the company side. On my Computer I have the latest version of the QuickVPN Client installed.
The Client-Computer is running Windows VISTA Home Premium... I guess this is the major-problem...
First problem: I cannot use the IP-Adress of the company as the "Servers Address" in QuickVPN. Using the DynDNS-Domainname instead which is pointing to the (fixed) IP-Asdress, works fine.
When I use QuickVPN (same Version) on a Windows 7 Professional System, the IP-Asdress works fine as Server Address" ...
Is there a way to fix this on VISTA?
Second problem: When I start up QucikVPN and connect to the RV042, the connections stays up until I either click on disconnect or shut down my computer. But sometimes (only periodically) the connections breaks up (showing the red line instead of the green circle in the tray). Is there a kind of timeout installed on the Router? If this is so, where can I change it?
Third problem: when I disconnect the QuickVPN client, I cannot reconnect immediatelly. I have to wait about 10 minutes until the connection can be established. I'm getting an error-message like "server is not responding". I have looked up the VPN-status in the routers-setup screen. Even when I click on disconnect in QucikVPN, it says user "xyz" is connected... (I'm using TeamViewer to see the Remote-Screen with the router Login).
It would be great if anyone has one or two clues for me in which direction I have to search for the reasons...
Thank you very much in advance!
    Justin

Well it is good to hear that you are connecting successfully with the QVPN. On the computers that you cannot connect to, are the
firewalls on those compuers turned off?  A lot of times this is the reason you would not be able to connect to them. Check those out.

The only differens is that it is 32bit version...

Can you help me with that? Thans in advance!

Do you have any security software running on the 64-bit Win7 computer that could potentially disable QuickVPN Client, which makes use of several .exe programs. You might want to call the Support Center to get more help.

  • Windows File Share doesn't work over RV042 QuickVPN

I have two sites, one has an RV042 and the other an RV042G, and there is an IPSec tunnel between the two.
Windows file sharing works between these two over the tunnel.
I have a laptop with QuickVPN Client which I use to connect to either site.
If I connect to the RV042G site, file sharing works fine.
If I connect to the RV042 site, I can't get file sharing to work.
As far as I can see, both routers are set the same.
    Can anyone help here?
    Thanks in advance.

  • RV042 QuickVPN not working for all PCs

So have a RV042 VPN router that is directly connected to the ethernet port of our comcast cable modem.
If I connect to it using QuickVPN (1.4.2.1) from a PC that is connected using AT&T 3G Network it works fine!
If I connect to it using QuickVPN (1.4.2.1) from a different PC that is connected using home WiFi (linksys wrtxxx) then it fails. In the VPN log all I see is failure messages for ping.
2011/10/22 15:47:28 [WARNING]Failed to ping remote VPN Router!
If I open a regular command prompt and attempt to ping the VPN router it works so not understanding why the QuickVPN is unable to ping.
Any ideas why this is happening or how I can troubleshoot this further. Makes me think the RV042 config is fine otherwise it would not work on a 3G connection. Something on the home PC or the home network. Not sure what to check.

    So discovered following today morning.
Moved the laptop that worked on 3G to the same wireless network where the other laptop would not work. Vola! it connects over WiFi and 3G (when tried separately by disabling the other).
So now it makes me think not only my RV042 config is working but a client is also able to connect via WiFi and 3G. So has to be an issue with the laptop itself which does not connect. Some software is either missing from this laptop or blocking the ports.

  • QuickVPN hangs on Verifying Network

I have an RVS4400. I went into the VPN tab and then the VPN Client Accounts tab. I entered the desired username and password, then clicked Add/Save button. I click the Active box and click Save Settings button.
I now configure QuickVPN client with the profile name, username and password that I created on the router, the public IP of my VPN router, and have the port set for 443. When I connect, it goes through fine until it hangs at verifying network. It eventually times out.
From within the LAN, I can connect just fine. I've even disabled the Firewall on the router.
    Please help. Thanks.
    Manny

There is a NAT-T problem with Windows XP SP2 and there is a registry change that must be made.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/885407
Windows Vista you need to turn the Windows firewall on for IPSEC connections to be made.
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926179
I  tried these on my Vista and XP machines and finally got a connection to my WRVS4400N.
Both 32 bit may work for 64 bit but my 64 bit XP machine is inside my firewall.

  • Linkysys RV042 QuickVPN to router issues

    Hi
Any help with this issue is greatly appreciated as I have been stuck on this for acouple of days now, this is my first time posting to a forum... I have setup VPN connections before but only through packages such as openswan & openvpn not through such a device.
My VPN router is connected directly to an ADSL modem, directly behind the RV042 I have placed my test machine on port 1 both Wan1 & port 1 show as Gree (active).
    Modem...
    DHCP enabled
    local IP: 10.1.1.1
    The VPN has...
    Wan1: 10.1.1.2
    Lan1: 10.222.43.1
    Test machine...
    IP address: 10.222.43.100
I have been given two Linksys RV042 devices to setup as VPN end point/connections from one LAN to another.
However before I do this I have been testing the setup of a test machine (Laptop Windows 7 professional & also tried XP professional with exactly the same results) to the VPN router device.I have configured the router with the basic setup as described in the step-by-step guide / pdf and setup a test user & one tunnel I have left every thing as default and only changed what is necessary.
I have generated a certificate for the server and distributed a client certificate to my client machine and installed in the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Linksys\Linksys VPN Client\" directory (as I understand I can simply download to this location and its installed for the client).
The above is a run down of the steps listed in the setup guide provided on the CD, every time I try to connect to the server I get the following error message.
Failed to establish a connection. This could be caused by one of the following:1. Incorrect password.2. No valid IP for the network card.3. Incorrect server address.4. You may need to disable your Windows firewall.5. Local IP address conflicts with the subnet of remote VPN server.
    1. I know my password is correct
    2. I am not sure what "No valid IP for the network card" means though I am able to get access to the internet through the modem on my test laptop and have access to the web interface of the RV042 so I assume that my IP is valid?
    3. I know the server address is correct I have tried both internal address of the RV042 and the wan1 address of the RV042
    4. I get exactly the same error message whether the firewall is turned on or off on either of the XP or 7 machines.
    5. This is the one that I am confused about, there are no machines connected so I am unsure how there could be a conflict. however just to make sure I have changed the IP of the laptop to one outside of the range allocated to the tunnel, and I still get the same error message.
I have checked the log file of the server "system log" and this is what I get it appears that the server actually accepts the connection from what I can make of this series of messages.

    Hi SamirDarji
Thank you for your reply to my post. This mostly gives me a solution to work with, however I have now been faced with another issue. I am now supposed to synchronize with a ADSL modem / router / vpn / firewall in another location for which is a different brand. From what I can see is that I have the same settings available on both RV042 and the other device. My question is... now I have setup all vpn devices, I am confused about how to connect / test the devices. The two RV042 devices have a test connection button under vpn summary for the tunnel but neither of them appear to connect (it just cycles through and never connects). Initially I thought that the devices may not be able to see each other as the two RV042 devices are behind a firewall / modem however i have put the vpn RV042 routers on the dmz of the test networks behind their gateway modems. The ADSL modem / router / vpn / firewall device on the live network is the gateway as well, this device has the firewall disabled (the firewall job is passed down the chain to a few special purpose firewall devices before the core switches) would this affect the vpn?
    thanks again

  • Rv042 Error 501 not implemented

    Hi
My quickvpn setup has been working great for a few years but it stop working recently with the following error message in
    wget_request_error.txt:
HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 501 Not Implemented
    20:10:10 ERROR 501: Not Implemented.
quickvpn hangs on the dreaded verifying network stage.
Checked VPN router logs and also quickVPN client logs and confirmed the tunnel has been created successfully. However the ping was unsuccessful.
I look through the forum and confirmed that my quickvpn user account and password only contains alphanumeric characters.
Really appreciate if someone can please help me resolve this issue.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
don't worry about the "HTTP error:501 Not Implemented The adminContRep command is an internal SAP R/3 command and not accepted by this content repository" error message, it only means that if you chosen the CSadmin button (or transaction) that this only developed from SAP content server and cannot be used for other 3rd party ones, like OpenText.

As you can see the windows firewall is off, I have a 10.15.25 address on the client side, (The VPV side is 192.168.100.xxx).  So the tunnel connects okay but the network verification fails.  SO this means that 443 from where I am is open.  Of course who would block 443 anyhow?  Is there an access rule that needs to be created to allow ping to the local address of the router or something?  If so that is not in the documentation anywhere.  Help please?

    David,
This is definitely *not* resolved, and I am having the exact same problem with an RV042 (firmware version 1.3.12.19-tm) from a WIndows 7 Ultimate (v6.1.7100) platform.
All of the ports on the RV042 are fully available from the internet.  Here is an nmap scan of the entire RV042:
    C:\Users\markm>nmap 173.13.184.201
    Starting Nmap 5.00 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2010-02-10 22:12 Pacific Standard Time
    Interesting ports on 173-13-184-201-sfba.hfc.comcastbusiness.net (173.13.184.201
    Not shown: 995 filtered ports
    PORT      STATE  SERVICE

    113/tcp   closed auth
    443/tcp   open   https
    1723/tcp  open   pptp
    60443/tcp open   unknown
Here's the screen shot of QuickVPN (not much to tweak):
When try and connect, it get's all the way through everything, but hangs on "Verifying network..."  This is the classic "can't ping the server" problem...  FWIW, I inserted a copy of my QuickVPN logfile at the end of this post.
I see a lot of guys trying crazy stuff, but no answers, or even suggestions that seem to understand the problem.  Maybe I should turn this around a little...
Has *anyone* successfully connected using QuickVPN under Windows?  If so, can you please describe your configuration?  I suspect this tool worked once in '98, and Linsys/Cisco still thinks it works.
As best I can tell, the tool simply hasn't worked since at least WinXP, maybe Win2K.
    Helllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllp!

  • Use of QuickVPN to access network behind a RV042

    Hello,
I have a RV042, and all incoming WAN requests are forwarded to a network located behind the RV042.
Internal IP range of the RV042 is 192.168.0.x (RV042 IP is 192.168.0.1, and everything is forwarded to SG300 L3 with IP 192.168.0.2), and some networks 10.0.x.x can be reached via the SG300 L3.
    This works fine.
And from the "Diagnostic tool" of the RV042, I can ping all devices in network 10.0.x.x.
I can connect to the RV042 using QuickVPN.
I can ping the 192.168.0.2 interface of the SG300, but... I cannot reach the networks located behind the SG300.
How can I reach the servers located behind the RV042, in network 10.0.x.x ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi,
that depends on the actual application you entered. the application is also an open entry and you could create your own application and then enter additional parameters if needed

  • Quickvpn / client to gateway vpn rv042 can only ping router

I am setting up remote access using an RV042 router.  Using quickvpn or a client-to gateway vpn and shrewsoft client,  I can only access/ping the LAN side of the remote router and one machine on the remote network.  The PPTP server and native Windows 7 connection provide access to all machines on the remote network.
I have 2 possible reasons for this and would like to find the real reason:
    1) The remote RV042 is behind another router, and that router restricts access other than the PPTP traffic.
    2)  The VPN tunnels other than PPTP only allow access to the remote LAN side of the router and remote machines that have the remote router defined as their gateway in the IP configuration.
    Any ideas?

I've narrowed the problem down to option 2 above. If I change the gateway of a LAN resource to point to the LAN side of the router, it can be accessed through the VPN tunnel.
I haven't had time to see if adding routing entries can fix this problem.  Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Also, I would appreciate an explanation of why the PPTP connection works.  I will research this myself (eventually) but am  already backed up with other projects..

  • RV042 configuration with QuickVPN in Windows 7

    Hi,
I've been working on getting a client to Gateway configuration going for quite some time now.  Had it working with a different Cisco single wan router that failed.  The user replaced the router with an RV042 and we are trying to get the QuickVPN to once again connect to the router as it did before the replacement.  Previously we did connect successfully with Windows 7 clients.
    Router: RV042 v3 firmware 4.0.4.02-tm
    Quickvpn version 1.4.2.1
what i keep getting in the log is the following :

the interior LAN subnet is 192.168.0.X while mine is 192.168.10.X so that should not be a conflict.  I have allowed access to all ports on WAN1 in the router firewall at this point as well.
Not sure of the complete setup steps in the new router when it asks for IP, IP & FQDN, etc.  Also not clear  on what is happening when I get the lines stating the gateway was reached, then immediate that it was not reached.   Split personality?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Andrew

Well it worked a llittle.  I got the client in as well as my own.   The very next day we started getting message regarding being unable to reach the remote gateway.  Upon looking at the log we saw, on both machines, that the final ping to verify failed.  In the router we do allow ping to the router.  Not very impressed with the router or the QuickVPN software and the clients is about to return the router and demand a refund.  It should not be this difficult.  Working, then when nothing has changed it just stops working.  That's bull.  Now trying to setup a tunnel without QuickVPN but I do not understand the remote client setup settings on the 'client to gateway' setup.  When it says email or domain name what are they referring to?
