Rv042G and Sg200-50

Good day,
I am using one SG200-50 switch, with 4 ports in one VLAN1 (untagged), 6 ports in another VLAN2 (untagged), and 20 in another VLAN3 (untagged) .
I have 1 RV042 and 1 RV042G connected to SG200 : WAN1 to ports of VLAN1 (ISP1), WAN2 to ports of VLAN2 (ISP2), one LAN to ports of VLAN3 (internal network).
Spanning tree enabled on SG200.
Having this, RV042 /G does not work, does not respond to ping etc - after power on for 1-3 seconds respond to lan port and than die - loop like.
In order to make RV042 /G be online,  I removed WAN2 from SG200 and conected to another switch ( wan2 from both rv042 /G).
Question: WAN1 and WAN2 (and lan ports) are not independent "devices"?
from switch log (occurs every 3-4 days, 3-5 times per day) - witch wan1 and lan to SG200, wan2 to another switch.

- port 10 and 35 corespond to lan of rv042 /G (one lan to each rv042 /G)

Hi.
Here is a diagram of my setup :
rv042 wan1 -------------- sg200 port 1
rv042 wan2 -------------- sg200 port 5
rv042 lan1 ---------------- sg200 port 11
rv042g wan1 -------------- sg200 port 2
rv042g wan2 -------------- sg200 port 6
rv042g lan1 ---------------- sg200 port 31
isp1 --------------------------sg200 port 3
isp2 --------------------------sg200 port 7
internal lan 1 ---------------sg200 port 12
internal lan 2 ---------------sg200 port 32
on sg200 :
vlan1 - port 1 2 3 4
vlan2 - port 5 6 7 8 9 10
vlan3 - port 11 - 30
vlan4 - port 31 - 48
all untagged.
on vlan1 i should have isp1 and wan1 from both routers
on vlan2 i should have isp2 and wan2 from both routers
on vlan3 i should have internal network 1
on vlan4 i should have internal network 2
Rv042 /G have (at leat display)  different  MAC Addresses for WAN1 and WAN2 (setup - network - mac address clone) and also on LAN (setup - network - under lan settings), so should not make loops.
Best regards,
Catalin

Thanks Dave for long long explanations!!!
    Here's my answer in RED:
    Hi Lian,
You said the SG200 is a layer 2 router, it's a layer two switch. But this brings up a point which is,  Tom anf myself may be slightly misinterpreting your post.
So I am going to ask a couple of questions  to better understand the setup.
Does the ONT really transmit out  TAGGED VLAN frames  to my switch or does it only transmit to my switch untagged Ethernet frames.
    1.    A way to test this , is can your PC plug into the ONT and get internet connectivity ?
[lwloo]Yes, it transmit TAGGED VLAN, 10 for internet, 20 for TV, 30 for Phone. By connecting laptop without setting NIC virtual interface you will not get the internet ip address.
    2.    I'm guessing the ONT is just a Internet connection from SINGTEL for Internet connectivity, am I correct ?
[lwloo]Yes, ONT is the Optical network terminal for Singtel Fiber internet connection.
    You show in your orginal post the following vlan configuration ;
    1) SG200-18 configuration
    - VLAN 10 and 20
    - VLAN 10: Port 1 tagged, Port 14 untagged
    - VLAN 20: Port 1 tagged, Port 13 untagged
    - Port 1: 1UP, 10T, 20T Admit tagged PVID 1
    3.    Is the diagram further up this post  correct or should VLAN1 be really  VLAN10 ?
[lwloo]Sorry, my mistake on that diagram. LAN1 refer to port 1. The actual diagram:
If the ONT presents you with just a copper  ethernet connection of untagged frames, i think the configuration of GE1 on the switch is wildly  incorrect.
    4.    Why do you have unagged vlan 1 on port GE1 ?
[lwloo]If I remove vlan 1 from GE1, it be become internal vlan with 4095P added automatically.
5    Why do you have tagged VLAN 20 on the GE1 (connection to ONT)  What is the purpose of VLAN20 ?
[lwloo]VLAN 10 for internet, VLAN 20 for TV, VLAN 30 for Phone, VLAN 40 for Management.
VLAN mode on GE1 is real suspect, in fact I cannot understand why you are using general mode on your switch ports. .
[lwloo]Without choosing general I will not be able to choose “Admit Tagged Frame”; if I choose trunk, all option will be grayed out.
VLAN interface General mode can be disruptive, as you have seen from your results, have a look at the description from the built in admin guide by pressing the help icon in the top right hand corner of your screen.
here is a acopy of the help text from my SG300 series switch.
Interface VLAN Mode—Select the interface mode for the VLAN. The options are:
    •    General—The interface can support all functions as defined in the IEEE 802.1q specification. The interface can be a tagged or untagged member of one or more VLANs.
    •    Access—The interface is an untagged member of a single VLAN. A port configured in this mode is known as an access port.
    •    Trunk—The interface is an untagged member of one VLAN at most, and is a tagged member of zero or more VLANs. A port configured in this mode is known as a trunk port.
Arghhh  that always raises a warning sign.  General mode allows a untagged switch port to be members of many VLANs..wow... useful if you are using radius to allocate a VLAN to a 802.1x PC client, but it seems dangerous in your application.
Why is GE1 of the switch in General mode, why not leave all ports  in the default trunk mode    it's safer
    [lwloo]I will try later.
(note: trunk mode allows for one untagged VLAN by many tagged VLANs )
If the ONT transits untagged frames to the switch and is just a Internet connection.the try the following steps to get the Internet to the wan port of the RV042G.
[lwloo]No, if ONT transits untagged frames then life will be much more easier. 
step 1.  OK leave the ingress port GE1 in trunk mode, in fact all ports to trunk mode.
step 2.  Add vlan10  as untagged member of  GE1. (you may have to exclude VLAN1)
Step 3.  Make switch port GE14 a untagged member of VLAN10  ( you may have  to exclude VLAN1 from GE14.)
If the ONT is transmitting multiple tagged VLANS into your network the above three steps wont work.
So lets see some answers to my questions above, as i think i can spot a configuration issue if my assumptions are correct.
    Regards Dave

  • RV042G (router), SG200-26 (switch) vpn vlan issue

    HI,
    I have a RV042G (router), SG200-26 (switch)
ISP Modem on cable have dual wan static ip
    Switch have 4 Vlan
    vlan1 default
    vlan2 networkA
    vlan3 networkB
    vlan5 Modem
    port (1UP,2T) management port
    port 2-12 (2UP) Network A
port 13 (5UP,2T,3T) wan cable plug
port 14 (5UP,2T) go back to router wan port assign IP to network A
    port 18 (5UP,3T)
    port 19-26 (3UP) Network B
port25 (2UP,1T) router lan1 port connect to the switch port 25
it can separate 2 different network, if i plug a cable to port1 i can manage the switch
but if i use vpn to connect the router i wont able to ping or see the switch, but i can ping the router and all other computers are on vlan2, and vlan2 not able to go to manage the switch too or ping it
what should i change to let vpn can access to vlan1 to manage the switch, thanks

    Hello Gianluca,
In order for this setup to work, you will have to have a router that supports multiple vlans. You did not mention the model of the router or if it does this so I wanted to first mention that.
I understand your setup to be as follows- Internet -> Router -> Switch 1 -> Switch 2
On each port that connects a network device you will want to set the following-
    Trunk port
    Vlan settings of 1U, 2T, 3T
This allows default vlan of 1 and also other vlans
On other ports (1-4 , 7-9) you want to set them as follows-
    Access port
    Vlan of 2U OR 3U
This puts that port into the vlan of your choice
This will be the configuration needed, but again, you must have a router that will support vlans or multiple subnets.

  • RV042g and QuickVPN Issues

    Hello,
We purchased a RV042g for simple VPN purposes.  We have been experimenting with QuickVPN and have had a very difficult time.  The clients will occasionally become unable to finalize the connection.  The logs on the router show that authentication was successful and that the client disconnected immediately after.  The client logs show that they were unable to ping the gateway.  These issues disappear once the router is restarted (which has become a daily ritual).
We have also had difficulties with QuickVPN under certain conditions.  For example, we have noticed issues to the router via QuickVPN immediately after one client goes to sleep while connected.  This may not be the exact cause of that issue, but it happens so consistently that it appears to be the case.  In addition, one client cannot connect via WiFi while others can.
The QuickVPN clients are latest, as is the firmware on the router.  The router has had the 'Enable WAN Request' option toggled on and off.  In addition, all clients have different ISPs, and have had successful connections at least once.  The clients are a mixture of Windows 7 and Windows 8 (under Compatibility Mode).
Any help would be appreciated.  We are not sure if this is something we can actively prevent or not.
    Thanks

    Hello Sean,
I have worked with VPNs some, and many times, the installed firewall software on my hosts causes problems by blocking certain Internet traffic. To see if your firewall is causing problems, start your computer in Safe Mode with Networking. If your connection works, it means that your firewall is the problem.
Here is an article that might help with the firewall test:
Test Quick Virtual Private Network (QVPN) on Windows 7 with Safe Mode
Also, here is an article that might help with double checking your router and QuickVPN settings:
Manage VPN Users and Configure Quick VPN on RV016, RV042, RV042G and RV082 VPN Routers
    I hope this helps!

  • RV042G and RIP traffic

    Folks,
I have one RV042G with a static IP running on gateway mode, with a cable modem in bridge mode on the WAN side and three SG500X-24 on the LAN  side.   The port connecting to my  Layer 3 switches is configured on VLAN 2 in the RV042G.
The SG500X's have multiple VLANs and IP subnets configured.   I'm using one trunk port on the Master switch, configured as untagged member of VLAN 2.   The trunk port is also a tagged member of all other VLANs configured in the stack.   Every VLAN has its IP address and the VLAN 2 IP address is their default gateway.   InterVLAN routing seems to be working on this setup, thus my RV042G should never see IP routing traffic that belongs inside the Layer 3 stack.
Now, I'm passing on to the wider picture.   Have configured my RV042G with static IP routes that belong inside my SG500X stack.   But, the question is, if I configure both the RV042G and the SG500X's to use RIP v2, can't I use RIP to dynamically communicate all the route information from the RV042G to the SG500X stack and get rid of all the static IP routes?   Does RIP traffic ride on the LAN side of the RV042G or only on the WAN side?
    Regards

  • SG500X-48-K9-G5 and SG200-18 compatible SFP

    Hello,
I am interesting if GLC-SX-MM sfp modules are compatible with following switches: SG500X-48-K9-G5 and SG200-18.
Do you have any information about it ?

    Hi,
It doesn't appear that the GLC-SX-MM is compatible with the SG500. I quoted the manual below so you can see the compatible SFPs for the two switches.

  • No internet access on VLANs with RV042G and SG300

I'm trying to set up a network for a small business which will have different offices, and so I want to separate them all by VLAN so that they cann't access each other's files. The problem is that I can't access the internet from any of the VLANs, including the default.
The RV042G router is connected to the internet through the WAN1 port and has a static IP address of 10.4.1.1. I enables multiple subnets and added one for each of the VLANs (1 - admin, 10, 20, 30, 100 - guest). I also created static routes to the SG300 switch, which has an IP address of 10.4.1.2, 10.4.10.2, etc. The switch is in Layer 3 mode and is functioning as the DHCP server. I also have a wireless access point set up that broadcasts an SSID for each VLAN, however this is not the issue since no internet connection can be established wirelessly or with a wired connection.
I am fairly certain it has something to do with the data not being correctly routed through from the internet to the client, however I can't seem to find what is configured incorrectly. If anyone could offer some suggestions it would be appreciated. Please let me know if you need more info, I have attached some of the configuration screens for reference.

    Hi Paul,
Thanks for the suggestion, but I changed it from Gateway to Router and this didn't fix the problem, still no internet access.
I have a cabel modem box that connects to the RV042G through WAN1, and then the RV042G connects to the SG300 through port 1 on the RV042G. On the RV042G, this port is set to VLAN1, while the port on the SG300 is set as a trunk port. The SG300 is then assigning IP addresses to the clients. It has 4 different VLANs created that go to different offices. Does this help you understand the setup any better?

  • Trying to create guest network on wap321 and sg200-50p using VLAN

I have a SG200-50P and a WAP321. I am trying to create a guest wireless network using a separate VLAN on the WAP321. I have the production traffic on VLAN 1 and the guest network is on VLAN 100.
The WAP321 is plugged in to port 7 on the switch. It is configured as follows:
Trunk Port, 1UP, 100T, Ingress filter enabled
The DHCP server is on port 22 and is configured as follows:
Trunk Port, 1UP, 100T, Ingress filter enabled
The production wireless client is able to work fine on VLAN 1.
When I try to connect a device using the Guest network, the DHCP request does not appear to ever make it to the DHCP server. If I separate the Production network off of VLAN 1 and change the Untagged VLAN ID to a different VLAN than 1 (Management VLAN ID), the same thing happens to the client when it tries to get an IP address from DHCP.
    What am I missing here?

I have the VLANs configured on the WAP321. VLAN 1 is the Mgmt and general VLAN and the VLAN is configured for the Guest network. I did a Wireshark trace and for some reason the pakets for VLAN 100 (Guest network) on the WAP321 are not getting to the DHCP server. I see them on the WAP321 using the packet capture, but there is not any response to them. I do not see them coming in at the DHCP server.
When I connect to the WAP321 using the production SSID I see the same ackets at the AP and also coming in to the DHCP server. That is why I am so confused. I can't figure out why they do not get to the server. I was wondering if I have something configured wrong on the SG200, but this is new territory for me and I do not know what I am missing. I have taken some screen shots of the SG and WAP config screens in case it might help.

  • Cable disconnected with macintosh and sg200 26 cisco router

I owe a SG200 26 port switch and it works fine so far.
Amacintosh computer (mountain lion) has been added to the wired net. Everything works fine t first, but there's a sudden disconnection issue.
It seems that the macintosh computer is not able to communicate to the switch, and the macintosh prompts a lack of cable connection. None of the lights on the switch are on.
If I plug the macintosh cable directly to a router ethernet port, it works properly.
I need some advise about that, please.
    Does anybody know anything?
    Thanks.

    Hello everybody,
I encountered a similar problem with my 2011 iMac 27 and a Cisco SG300-10. Especially after coming from hibernation the Mac claims to have no ethernet connection (no physical cable attached) from time to time, although lights on the switch are on. I need to reboot the Mac in order to get the connection back.
Above that there seems to be some trouble negotiating the correct settings between those two devices. This is some typical console output from the Mac regarding its en0 interface after the wakeup:

As you can see, the link goes up and down like the Santa Maria on Columbus' first expedition. In addition to that there is no "EEE enabled" entry although the network chipset (BCM57765) is EEE compatible and the Cisco affirms "EEE Support on Remote" for the specific port.
I don't know if there is something wrong with the Mac OS X network driver (10.8.2) or with the switch firmware, at least I thought I let you know and maybe you can take a look or have a hint.

  • RV220W and SG200-18 DCHP/VLAN question

I am having trouble with a RV220W and I don't know why it won't work.
I have 10 VLANs setup (including the default) and DCHP setup for all the VLANs, there are 4 LAN ports on the router.
DHCP for the vlans are 192.168.VLANID#.100-254/24
Port 1 set to VLAN 1,10,20
Port 2 set to VLAN 1,30,40
Port 3 set to VLAN 1,50,60
Port 4 set to VLAN 1,70,80,90
On the SG200-18 Switch I have.
Port 1 set to VLAN 1,10,20 in trunk mode
Port 2 set to VLAN 1,30,40 in trunk mode
Port 3 set to VLAN 1,50,60 in trunk mode
Port 4 set to VLAN 1,70,80,90 in trunk mode
Port 5 set to VLAN 10 in access mode
Port 6 set to VLAN 20 in access mode
Port 7 set to VLAN 30 in access mode
and so on till 90 on port 13
Pluging a computer in to port 5 or 6 works fine and I get the right IP address from DHCP. Port 5 with VLAN 10 gives me 192.168.10.102 and port 6 gives me 192.168.20.102 but any of the other ports 7-13 will not give me any DHCP at all.
If I put all the VLANs on 1 port of the router to 1 trunk port on the switch DHCP works fine for all the VLANS
As far as I can tell I have everything set up right. Can this router just not handle the job? Am I missing something? I guess I don't really need to set it up this way I just thought it would be nice if the VLANs could be broken up on different ports and not all be stuffed down on pipe.

    Dear Brian,
Thank you for reaching Cisco Small Business Support Community.
    More than a misconfiguration issue it seems to me more like a router capability issue and I could not find any related documentation or similar previous cases, therefore I suggest you to contact the Small Business Support Center directly;
    https://www.cisco.com/en/US/support/tsd_cisco_small_business_support_center_contacts.html
I am sorry i could not be a better help but I am sure you will get the proper assistance from the Support Center and please let us know if there is anything we may assist you with in the meantime.

  • RV042G - PPPoE and DMZ Range

Is there anybody at Cisco that could escalate a change in the firmware with engineering?  I have called, emailed, posted on this forum, etc., about this and have been told it would be sent to engineering and I have never heard anything further.
The issue is:  I have a DSL business account that connects using PPPoE.  I have a /29 IP block that is routed through that connection.  When I set WAN 1 to PPPoE, I can't set a range in DMZ.  It REQUIRES a Static IP on WAN 1.  If I set the DMZ range and then change the WAN 1 back to PPPoE, it will connect and it does work, however I can't trust it since there is a check in the firmware.  I would be willing to beta test this if I could get someone to assist in getting the change made to the firmware.
I think this would be a simple change to a router than could be a big deal.  There are tons of small businesses that are going this route and there aren't a lot of routers that will accommodate this without spending a ton of money.
    ANY help would be appreciated!!

Cindy - Thanks for you continued interest in helping me solve this.  It seems to be a relatively simple change to make. Not requiring that WAN 1 have a Static IP when the DMZ is set to an IP range, would solve the issue.  PPPoE static accounts will route multiple public IPs through a WAN connection so it isn't necessary to always have a Static IP type .  I know you are attempting to simplify the interface for novices, but there needs to be an expert mode that allows people who know what they are doing to not be frustrated.
Sadly, I have a list of ticket numbers and I am not sure which one was for this issue.  It should be under my username sp1152211811 and it would be the last one.  The call was made 3-4 months ago and the tech indicated he would escalate. I also emailed a support engineer - who had sent me the RV042G and told me it would work - and explained the issue.  He told me to call and put a ticket in which I did.  I should have written down the badge number of the tech.  He acted like he thought it was a great idea and the RV042G should have worked that way to start with.
Last night I switched to a TP-Link router, however I am open to going back to the RV042G if this issue could be resolved.

  • Stuttering in certain videos in iTunes for Windows 7 and Windows 8

I have stuttering in certain videos in the most recent version of iTunes in Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 8 64-bit.  The two specific videos I am talking about are video podcasts...."Windows Weekly HD", and "Security Now HD".  The strange thing is that I can play those videos in Windows Media Player, VLC, Zune, etc, and there is no stuttering at all.  I have no issue with stuttering audio with iTunes.
Does anyone have any idea how to fix this?  It is really annoying to have to use other software just to watch certain videos.  I appreciate your time.
Also...this has happened on fresh installs of Windows 7 & 8 on the same PC.  I have also tried removing and re-installing iTunes, and all of my drivers for my software are updated, and I have all the updates for Windows.

  • One of the RV042g routers freezes

I bought two RV042G routers manufactured 07-2012. One works fine, the second loses VPN connection and access to the web interface in a few minutes after power up (internal network continues to operate normally and have access to the Internet). Both have PID RV042G V01 and Firmware version v4.2.1.02. If I understand correctly, this PID shows that routers have hardware version 1 but version of the firmware is only for hardware version 3. Could it be the problem with this incompatibility (while another similar router works without problems)? Whether it can be resolved by replacing to the correct firmware version? Where I can get it?

As I understand, there is a huge misunderstanding between models.
Viacheslav said that he has RV042G and Jonathan is speaking about RV042.
Technically hardware may be the same, except that one (RV042) runs at 100mbps, and another (RV042G) at 1gbps.
There are no technical documentation about RV042G stating which versions are available.
I have purchased one router RV042G V01 (gigabit one) a week ago, manufactured 04/2013. But it was loosing connection to the web UI after few minutes it was being left off connected. Consulted with the Cisco Small business representative and was advised that firmware available for RV042G on this link is valid for all the RV042G routers as there is no V3 version of hardware for it.
    http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=284170426&flowid=32902&softwareid=282465789&release=4.2.2.08&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest
The firmware is not good for it, as there are some files missing when logging into web UI. and it still looses connection and not responding to web address http://192.168.1.1/ on whatever port it was running.
I have had few workarounds, by changing IP of my own computer, it sometimes gives response to access web UI. But again if you leave web UI for few mintues, it just does not respond. Seems like it would stop httpd service on router.
I would like to get more information about the versioning.
In conclusion, if Jonathan is right, then that router RV042G V01 (running fw: 4.2.1.02-tm) = V4 hardware?

  • RV042G vs RV320

    Hello all,
Can someone pls explain to me the difference between these 2 models? cause i definitely cannot find it anywhere apart from 900mbps vs 800mbps in NAT.
Basically I need the best of them for Dual Gigabit WAN + DHCP to LAN, no need for VPN.
    Any idea?
    Thank you all!

    Hi Michiel,
The difference between RV042G and RV320 are as follows:
    1. IPSec VPN thrpoughput for RV042 is  75Mbps where for RV320 it is 100 Mbps.
    2. PPTP VPN connectio  for RV042G is 5 where for RV320 it is 10.
And please refer to the data sheet to know more detail.
