Rv082 v3 bricked during firmware update

I have an RV082 hardware version V03 that has been in service for about a year. I tried to update the firmware to 4.2.2.08 from 4.1.1.01. All appeared to be going well, then the browser timed out. I waited a while (10 + minutes) and powered down the RV082, then powered it back up.
On boot all lights flashed, then it settled on the LAN link 1, DMZ Mode, internet, and system lights all lit solid green, but the Diag light lites red for 5 seconds, then out for 5 seconds over and over.
I have tried the recovery TFTP procedure (hold reset down while booting, release when Diag light lites, run RV042_1.3.7.2_050727.exe). Booting with the reset button pressed is the same as without. The recovery utility generates an "Login Fail" error in a separate red window after about a minute (with 192.168.1.1 in the address). When I click OK in that it exits the recovery program
I also tried the method of hold reset for 5 seconds during power on then look for firmware update page at http://192.168.1.1. I server not found.
I can Ping 192.168.1.1 and have the computer set to 192.168.1.5. Using an IP scanner I can see the RV082 MAC address and IP address but nothing else.
I scoped out the power supply. It is providing 5.07 VDC both connected to MB and open. Ripple is <.003 Vpp.
The unit is several months out of warranty.
Is there any other procedure for unbricking these units? I have the wherewithall to JTAG but don't see how to do it on this.
The unit has been replaced with a new one, I would just like to get this one back to life as a spare.
Thanks for any help

• Crash during firmware update

I just tried to update my iPod Shuffle. I ran iPod Updater, it said "Update needed" and I clicked update button. In the middle of the update, Windows crashed and the iPod seems to be dead now. It isn't recognized by Windows anymore and iPod updater just says "Plug in the iPod for update" and when I plug it in, nothing happens. Even when I press the battery button, nothing happens (and I'm sure the battery isn't empty becasue before the incident, when I pressed the battery button, it was showing green). I tried everything: reseting the iPod, restarting computer, reinstalling software and nothing is helping.
I suspect that the firmware of the device got fried during the update procedure (since the update was aborted halfway because of crash). Is there any way to revive the device (reflashing the firmware somehow) than taking it to service?

• New Zen 8GB crashed during firmware update; now I can't get it to reboot or connect to a compu

I went and exchanged my "problematic white screen" ZEN 8GB for a new one this evening. When I came home, I attached the new unit to my computer and started to perform the required firmware upgrades. The upgrades downloaded fine, but after the installation started, they seemed to freeze. I waited for an hour before I did anything, but finally had to assume that the update had malfunctioned and would never finish on its own. At that point I clicked "cancel" in the window monitoring the upgrade installation, and thought I could just start the process anew. Unfortunately, my computer no longer recognizes the ZEN when it's plugged into a USB port.
I rebooted my computer, just in case that was the problem, but it still can't find the ZEN when searching for devices to AutoUpdate. As for the Zen itself, I can turn it on and off, but the screen remains black (i.e., no info on screen). If I reset it, the screen flashes the word "Creative" only. If I try to do a Recovery, I can't get any text to appear on the screen. I can't even reformat the ZEN via my computer because they're no longer speaking. I assume that the interrupted firmware installation caused this problem, and that the ZEN just doesn't have enough of an operating system installed to work properly. Is there any fix for this that I can tackle myself Or, is it back to the store to return this one, too I have noticed a lot of white screen flashings as I've been working with the new ZEN, so perhaps this just wasn't meant to be. Any words of advice are certainly appreciated, however.

Same happened to me and I only had the thing a few hours. I may leave it connected overnight to see if the battery needs charging but if nothing happens it's going back. I've tried plenty of suggestions. The Creative screen flashes on when I plug it in but then just sits there. Reseting does nothing and how can you do anything to it if it's not recognised by the PC. Vista did see it before the update attempt. Wondered whether to throw XP back on.
Do I have to resort to the new ipod Nano
OK I've done it. Somewhere on this forum it said to disconnect the Zen from the PC.
Now at the same time, press and hold the play/pause button, put a pin into the reset button and hold down the on/off switch (yes all 3 in that order at the same time). Recovery mode came on and I tried to uninstall the firmware update from previously - it didn't do it but I updated the latest firmware again anyway and this time it worked. I guess the last attempt didn't take.

• Nokia c5-00 bricked during software update

I've brought my nokia c5-00 on 20th jan 2011.
Today I was updating my phone to it's latest version, but the software update failed in mid showing error "connection lost with the device". And from that point phone dosen't starts. When i press the power button i.e the red button used to cut calls, it only vibrates a bit with no light on screen and switches itself off.
I've tried everything to make it work like pressing the call, star and 3 button to hard reset it but it had no effect on it, my phone dosen't even starts for charging.
Then after a failed long effort to restore my phone I decided to take it to the nokia care.
I showed it to the nokia care representative and after examining the phone by pressing the power button she instantly asked me if it's a failed software update by pc. I said yes it's due to failed software update. Then she forwarded it to the technician to repair the phone.
Now comes the shock.....
The technician said that the software update is failed due to a bend in PCB plate and he showed me the PCB. The bend in PCB is something like this
And here are the images of my phone
I want to know how can the PCB plate bend like this if there is not even a scratch on the phone. Nokia care technician had denied warranty due to the bend in the plate. Where lies my fault in this?
I live in meerut and visited two nokia care centers
1- Nokia care, baccha park
Remark- will charge 70% of the original price of the phone and will change the PCB plate.
2- Nokia care, abu lane
Remark- They said the phone can be fixed or cannot be fixed and will charge Rs 1500.
My phone is still under warranty.
What should I do now?

• 9360 bricked during auto update

This wasn't my weekend! I plugged our 9360 in and was informed an upgrade was available, so like a fool, I thought why not! A better question might have been why fix something that wasn't broken?
At least I was cautious enough to take a few screen captures. so I have an idea of what passed and failed Here is what happened
The desktop application needed an upgrade and the download began
This was follwed by a rsuccessfull restart
My device was connected and Software updates were identified
I was prompted to install the update:
7.1 Bundle 2841 (v7.1.0.1047, Platform 9.6.0.160
It successfully completed:
downloading update
erasing applications
loading system software
The update appeared to go in fine until the
"Wait for device initialization"
At this point I noticed the USB port would disconnect-connect about 15 second apart.
The phone's red indicator led followed this cycle and the screen never did illuminate
This was followed by the message that the software could not connect to my device
I left the software and phone alone for over 2 hours and nothing changed. I then hit retry and after a period of time the same error appeared. I hit retry over 8 cycles with no change. At about 3 hours I concluded there was a problem and canceled the install. I tried reopening the desktop app and got the message the Desktop Software cannot communicate with the device along with some comments about it either rebooting or havinf a dead battery
I remove the battery and sim in various combinations and retried the desktop software with no success.
RECOVERY ATTEMPT
I found the article on loader.exe - bricked phones and managed to stop the cycling of the phone
I noticed that the connection to the device (BlackBerry Device Manager window) appeared to be maintained, and after 6 minutes I initiated the OS restoration of an older version
The load of JVM and system software passed, but at device initialization the same problem occured
I am not sure of the original OS version, the only information I caught is the windows that states
7.1 Bundle 2841 (v7.1.0.1047, Platform 9.6.0.160)
Here is the rest of the details I have
Phone: BlackBerry 9360
Model RDC71UW
IC: 2503A-RDC70UW
Original carrier: SaskTel (Sk, Canada)
Current carrier: Virgin Mobile Canada
The power, PC, and usb cable were all fine during the upgrade. I set the phone down and did not touch it to avoid any fumbles from couch football during the upgrade. The only user activity on the PC other than the BB app was due the screen shots I took.
Is there a process I can follow to resolve this problem?

• N73 Shuts down during firmware update

The new firmware downloads, the installation screen appears, and then my phone shuts down. So the installation never gets started. After a while, I get a message to unplug the charger, remove and replace the battery and try again. Which I do...and the same thing happens. Any suggestions?

First remove the battery for 5 minutes, reconnect the battery, connect it to your pc and run the updater again. Leave it for a few minutes and it should go into recovery mode.
If not disconnect it and try a hard reset.
Hard reset:
1. Switch off the phone.
2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.
3. While holding these buttons, press the power button and switch on the phone.
4. Release when the phone shows the nokia logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen.
If that fails to fix it try the advice offered in this post by drummer27:
/discussions/board/message?board.id=swupdate&message.id=14152#M14152
If that still fails then the last option is to take the phone to a nokia care point.

• IPod Touch bricked during iTunes update. Error #14.

I was updating my iPod Touch via iTunes and it got about half way done when I got error #14. I have followed the troubleshooting steps to the best of my ability however there seems to be something slightly odd about the error that I encountered. When I turn my iPod on now (i.e. when I hold the power/sleep button down for a few seconds WITHOUT pressing the home button as well), I see the Apple logo for a few seconds then it goes straight to the image of a USB cord with an arrow going into the iTunes logo. My computer recognizes my iPod as an iPod and iTunes says "iTunes has detected an iPod in recovery mode. You must restore the iPod before it can be used with iTunes." I click "Okay".
Then I click "restore" since I have just been instructed to do so.
I click "Restore and Update" at the prompt.
The process makes it through the "Extracting Sofware" step, as well as the "Preparing iPod for restore" step at which point I get the Apple logo back on my iPod.
Then a progress bar appears on my iPod which corresponds to the progress bar on my computer (Windows XP, btw). It says "Restoring iPod software..." on my computer.
The progress bar gets to about 25% on my iPod before I get error 14.
At this point the iPod restarts itself. I see the Apple logo for a few seconds and from there straight to the image of the USB cable with the arrow going into the iTunes logo.
This iPod has never been Jailbroken or anything like that. I was attempting to update it because it wasn't connecting to my home's WiFi network, for God's knows what reason.
In conclusion, Apple's update broke $300 mp3 player. It's a 16 GB model and it's out of warranty so I'm put in the position of bringing it to Apple and paying them more money so that they might -possibly- fix the thing that they just broke.
Needless to say this has soured me on the company just a little bit.
If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate the help.
Thanks,
-Trevor

The exact same thing happened to me!! I was able to get the restore to work on another computer with itunes where I had not downloaded the 3.1.1 upgrade. I am at least back to 2.2.1 with nothing on my itouch. Which is better than what I had. At least it turns on now. From the looks of this board, it would seem 3.1.1 upgrade is not ready for prime time!!

• IPod G5 unplugged during firmware update.... I think its done...

I was installing a firmware and there was a mini-emergency in my house and I accidentally unplugged my iPod. Now, its stuck in that "recovery" loop that everybody is complaining about. Here's what I've tried.
1) The 5R's. Nothing.
2) Reformatting to FAT32 and restoring. Nothing.
3) Manually putting songs on my iPod, nothing.
4) Change drive letter in Windows. Nope.
I would love any suggestions. One of my friends said I should take it to the Apple Store, but, since I (kinda) caused harm to my iPod, the limited warranty may not cover it.

OK, I took it into the Apple Store today. Showed it to the guy at the Genius Bar.
He tried to reformat and restore it on both a Mac and PC, and neither worked. Then, he used some kind of development verison of iTunes to manually reinstall the latest firmware, which still didn't work. Finally, he told me that that he would have to order a new iPod for me.
Of course they had tons of iPods, but no replacement ones (no box, no earbuds, no charging port, just a new iPod), so it would be in on Monday. Charge out of my pocket, $0.
I went with a group of friends and they were all impressed by the service and two of them bought iPod Shuffles.

• N73 firmware update failed but still working?

Few days ago I saw new firmware for N73 is out. Downloaded program, stared to update firmware.
After cca. 90% of progress bar I heard same sound you hear every time you plug in/out your phone over USB cable. My heart almost stopped since I heard stories you must not unplug phone during firmware update, that it will not work after that. Suprisingly software offered me to repeat update process!
I clicked OK and it started all over again.
Once again after reaching about 90% progress bar instalation stopped with same un plugg sound. This time there was no repeat update offer. I tryed everything but update din't work.
I plugged USB out of comp and phone and tryed to turn on phone. I wasn't able to turn in on! Then I took out battery, put it back in and turned on phone.
All worked, menu was in english, but I had option to change it back to croatian again. Installed old programs and they all worked. Voice dialing working, camera working... all working.
What the hell happened?
Why installation stopped on 90% and my phone is working without problems on NEW firmware? Bug in Nokia Firmware update software?

I've understood it's quite normal that the update prosedure may seem to stop even for some minutes and then go on again. The connection between the phone and computer will also break and then reconnect couple of times...
Are you sure, you did wait long enough before unplugging your phone (at least some minutes)?
But if your phone has the new firmware now and everything is working fine so I hope there is no problem!

• Bricked: Surface Pro Firmware Update

This is incredibly frustrating. We ordered 80 surfaces pros and I can't get any real support. I get transferred to consumer grade support who has absolutely no idea WTH they're talking about. I do not want to talk to someone
in India following a flowchart designed for consumers. 50 grand on tablets, and no support.
We need to deploy an image to these machines. It's my understanding that they can't PXE boot without a firmware update. I I manually applied the Firmware as per this blog:
https://blogs.technet.com/b/deploymentguys/archive/2013/05/16/deploying-drivers-and-firmware-to-surface-pro.aspx?Redirected=true
Now it's bricked. How can I manually apply this firmware update. I tried applying the update through windows update, then get errors from sysprep that it can't sysprep an updated system.

45 Minutes in, 4 different reps and departments. Not one knows what they're talking about. One of them even asked what product I was calling about after I said I was having issues with a Surface Pro.

• After EFI Firmware update 2.3, MBP Early 2011 will not boot. During restart it all went wrong please help!

Hello,
I've done an ample amount of Internet research to find an answer to this problem however nothing yet found is quite like this. I will start from the beginning.
I am traveling through Europe, and I normally live in California. When I arrived in Ireland my MBP early 2011 15 inch, began crashing constantly when I had several tabs open on Chrome and maybe one or two low CPU/Memory using applications, nothing the 8gb RAM &750gb hard drive can't normally handle. Thus I began trouble shooting. I ran disk utility once started up and repaired both disk and permissions. Still crashing. It didn't seem like it had anything to do with a kernel panic shut down, I never would receive the usual message indicating so. After that I did an SMC reset. It was still crashing. I then upgraded the OSX from 10.8 to 10.8.4 believing it could help. It did momentarily, but then crash again. (When it crashes screen goes black suddenly and upon pressing power button does a regular boot on my single partition). I decided attempting to repair using the Internet recovery option but it appeared my MBP had not yet have it installed, so I downloaded from Apple and began installing. Here I made a mistake, I unplugged the power source as it was restarting. When the gray screen and apple appeared, the loading bar shows up as it says it will when installing the update, but when the bar fully loads it crashes every time. I've tried starting in safe mode, which then loads but never goes further (I let it stand for two hours such as that and nothing). Then I decided to allow the MBP to fully charge overnight to give it time and charge. This morning the problem has stayed the same, even with power source plugged in. Please help I need this to work.
Thank you and please ask any questions!

Your constant crashing problem is probably some type of hardware fault which no update can fix. Doing the 10.8.4 update and then the firmware update just caused further problems. you need to take thr system to a apple store to be diagnosed and fixed if cost effective.
