RV110W Ping but no discovery

Hello,
I have connected 2 LAN devices on my RV110W and a PC all of them with DHCP local ip.
from the pc I can ping successfully the two devices if I know their ip address. But when I try to discover any accessible device
the result is zero.
All the devices as soon as I call them by ip and not try to discover them, are communicating successfully, even remotely via vpn.
Everything seems to be right, when I use a non-VPN router or a switch or even a simple hub and the system works great.
im using VLAN 1 with all ports untagged, firewall and other settings that could cause packet loss is disabled.
What is wrong in my setup?

If you have any policy under access restrictions, disable those. If you have MAC address filtering enabled disable that. If you have static IP address on router remove it.

  • Ping but no client response

I am using ARD 3.3 to manage the Macs in my building. I am having troubles with 11 out of 21 of the MacBook 4,1 model computers that are not showing up on the Scanner / All Computers list with ARD. Those not on the list show up as black icons with IP Addresses signifying that they can be pinged but have no client response from those computers. They are running Client Software v. 3.3.1 and access the network wirelessly, same as the Admin Comp.
I have opened the Sharing system pref and turned ARD on/off, modified the access privileges and restarted all machines to no avail. What else can I try to get these computers to be managed via ARD?

They are running Client Software v. 3.3.1 and access the network wirelessly
Are the appropriate ports open and forwarded in the wireless router to those workstations? You'll need to do some special setup to be able to manage multiple systems behind an NAT (see "Setting Up the Network" in the Remote Desktop Help).

  • Ping but no reply?!?

I just recently installed vista and now i cant get on the net. I am able to ping but i dont get any replys. I can access my router just fine which means the problem is at the router. Also if i put my pc in the Dmz guess what? The net works!!!!!!!!! So with that being said i have no idea why this is happening. I didnt make any changes to my router except that i installed vista. Anyone have any idea what to do to change this. Btw i tried disable the firewall on the pc lowering security in ie etc..

  • WRVS4400N responds to pings but web interface fails

    Hello.
I have a WRVS4400N router in a remote office.  I have connectivity to the office and computers there.  But the web interface for the router is failing to come up.  This happens once every few days or so.  Is there any utility or something that I can use to remotely reset the router without making use of the webinterface or having physical access to the router?
It's a version 2 router with the latest firmware.
    Thanks.

I gain access via LogMeIn.  QuickVPN has not been enabled on this router.  And the hardware VPN between it and a like-router in a second office is down and will not come back up.
I know the interface does not come up when I'm physically there because I tried it last time I traveled to the office during the last outage.  I am using it's LAN IP 192.168.148.1.  I also tried 192.168.148.2.  Both IPs respond to pings but no web interface will connect.
The web browser (Chrome, Firefox, and IE) just says "unable to connect" or "cannot display the page"

  • Ping Sweep and Discovery in LMS 4.1

    Hello Community,
we are running CiscoPrime LMS 4.1 and I have a problem with PingSweep in Device Discovery.
Our company's branches connect to the main site through GETVPN. Discovery through CDP, Routing Table and ARP cannot be used based on the document written by Joseph Clarke (https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-9005) and which is extemely helpful.
So the only available option is PingSweep.
The loopback interfaces of all the remote GETVPN devices are in the same IP range, so this was configured in Module Settings --> Ping Sweep in the Discovery.
Unfortunately none of the devices get discovered, even though there is icmp connectivity from the server to the loopbacks.
What could be the problem and how can we further troubleshoot?
    Thanks in advance,
    Katerina

I would like to update the post...
The problem was that in Discovery Settings --> Filter Settings I had excluded the IP addresses, which indicated the connected between our routers and the ISP CPE. As a result the Discovery did find the routers in question, but "rejected" them because one of the interface IPs was found in the "exclude filter".
    Everything is working fine now.

  • WVC54GCA ip address and ping but no web or image

    Hi,
I have two identical WVC54GCA cameras connected on static ips, .51 and .50.  One works perfectly and I can see the image on the crappy viewing software or go to the web site and view the image there.  The second one is more problematic.  I can ping the device and  get a 2-100 ms response.  The camera software can detect the camera in the setup.  However on the software, there is no image for camera 2, and when I try to go to the website .50 it just times out without ever connecting.  It is as if the camera's network connection is working but its web service, etc is dead.  Could that happen?  If I buy another 2, will maybe 1 of them work?
    Any suggestions gratefully received.  Thanks.

Unfortunately you can't enhance the antenna, as there is no provision for an external connection. You can only try to reposition it slightly.
The signal can be affected by metal objects nearby, other 2.4 GHz devices like handheld phones and microwave ovens.
Edit: The signal can also be affected by other wireless networks nearby. Try to use a different channel on the wireless access point. Set the same channel manually in the camera. (Try channel 1 or 6 or 11, as they all overlap somewhat).
If your second camera works well in that very same position (try it), then you may have a faulty unit. Take it back for a refund or warranty claim.

  • Ping-but no communication

    Hello,
My G5 is unable to communicate with my printers via ethernet (or airport) or with my laptop via "connect to server". When I try to log on to the G5 from the lap top I get an ftp dialogue connection box asking for my userid and pw. I can eventually get on to the g5, but it does not show my different users and only connects through the user i am logged on as (does not show name of user).
When I try to log on from the g5 to the lap top, i get as far as choosing the share drive to log on and then the beach ball begins to endlessly spin, i have to restart in order to make it go away.
I can ping both the network printers and the laptop successfully with all packets sent and received.
Also, one of my printers is connected via ethernet, it is an hp Colorlaserjet 2840, I can get a test page to print if i go through the browser based printer utility. but no other application will print.
I reset the PRAM. no luck. Tiger version 10.4.11
    Any ideas out there? Thanks

    Hello,
    Thanks for responding.
    Answers to your questions:
    1) _+Are you trying to do ftp?+_
No- I am in the finder window, I click on the "network" icon then "servers" then on"computer name", the next thing that comes up is the log in box for ftp. I have been logging on using the finder window for several years, this is the first time i have seen the "ftp" login box when trying to connect to my local network.
    +_Are you using Finder>Go Menu>Connect to Servers>afp://ip.of.lap.top?_+
Normally I log on using the network icon in the finder. I tried logging on through "go" "connect to server" using afp://xxx.xxx.xx.xx this is the message I get:
Connection failed: The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and try again.
I also tried to connect using the computer name
afp://laptopname.local, I get as far as selecting a volume to mount, when I select the volume, the beach ball begins to spin endlessly and I have to restart the G5 in order to get it to stop, it will not allow me to cancel.
+_Do you try logging in as the "TO" Username & PW, instead of the "FROM" username & PW? The G5's Username & PW in that top case?_+
As of this morning,i cannot even get the laptop to show that the G5 even exists on the network. I pinged again (both ways) with the following results g5 to laptop = 10 packets sent, none received. same results going from laptop to g5.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hi folks,
I have a problem with openVPN.
Our university provides an openVPN server to which we can connect. Some time ago, my setup (with given config) works without any problems. But now, it simply fails. I'll need openVPN to tunnel into university to get access to "internal net" wikis and terminal servers for doing my master thesis.

  • Ping but little else

I've got a network built around a Verizon-supplied Versalink 327W router at home. Two Linux boxes and my Lombard Powerbook (running) 10.3.9 can connect just fine, but I've got a weird problem with a 'new' 400mhz G3 iMac. It can ping my gateway and perform DNS lookups, but it can't ssh/ftp/http out. ie UDP works but TCP doesn't. It's got a valid and safe IP address. It's physically connected to the router over a known good cable and has been tested with a second one just in case. It's been plugged straight into the router and into an ethernet switch connected thereto.
    I don't think there's a physical problem.
This machine did work on the network prior to running the updater, but magically stopped working shortly after.
Aside from the "page cannot be displayed" type errors that I get from TCP not working, the only error message I've gotten is a strange one. The Firewalls tab under System Preferences --> Sharing is all greyed out and says there's another firewall on my system that I have to disable, if I want to use the Apple firewall. However, dig as I might, I haven't been able to find any other firewall software.
Any ideas what could have caused this problem?
    iMac G3 & G3 Lombard Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi MrZaius,
I think I can help you with the second part of your problem.
Your firewall settings are greyed out because something you have installed has altered the firewall rules. Such an application is not necessarily another firewall but could be some piece of software that tries to optimise network throughput. These are usually found in /Library/StartupItems or even in ~/Libray/StartupItems. If in doubt, check your system.log for processes running on boot by opening "Console" in the "Utilities" Folder.
Anyway, in order to gain access to your firewall settings via System Preferences you will have to reset the firewall rules to their default state. To do so, login to your administrator account, open "Terminal" and type:
    sudo ipfw flush
You will be asked first for your password and then whether you want to proceed (just answer yes by typing y).

  • Wireless allowing iChat, ping, but no web surfing

Prior to today I'd had no problems with my Leopard-upgraded MBP talking to a Netgear WGT624 wireless router.
Although I began the day with no problems, I suddenly can't seem to use any web browser (Safari, Firefox) to get anywhere, including the router's configuration menu and the outside world. What I can do is iChat to other computers on my LAN, and I can also ping DNS servers as well as other things inside and outside the LAN. And when I plug into the router with a cord, all is fine with browsing.
Seemed like a DNS problem, but manually entering those didn't help. I also tried power cycling the laptop and the router several times, and I tried blowing away the wireless connection configuration and resetting it. Also tried monkeying with the IPv6 setting, which seemed to be coming up a lot. No luck. Lastly, the router seems to have the latest firmware. Also, my wife's Tiger macbook is still doing fine wirelessly.
Not sure if it matters, but I also noticed Norton AntiVirus strangely doing many LiveUpdates today, usually upon reboot, and I don't have it set to do that. But turning off AutoProtect also didn't seem to have any effect.
Any ideas? Is there a checklist of things I can try to get this wireless connection back up on a Leopard machine?

I have no idea what the problem was, but it seemed to vanish by itself.
My guess is that it was either my router going nuts for some reason, or maybe there was something funny with Mail interfacing with my IMAP account, which was hosed virtually all of last week and doing very strange things to Mail.

  • Deskjet 5850 - Windows 7 Dell laptop can't ping but all other networked machines can

So we have a 4-year-old Deskjet 5850 connected wirelessly to the home network. We've had a problem that it periodically disconnects from the wifi and won't reconnect until it's rebooted; however I've lived with this up to now (after much playing with settings, I might add).
Now my wife's new Dell laptop (insurance, old laptop, cup of tea, long story) has Windows 7, which doesn't have the HP full-feature software.  I figured the best thing to do was to try to add the printer manually, forcing the driver to 5600 series as per the HP support website; however I got absolutely nowhere.
A little digging showed me that the laptop simply can't see the printer - it won't even ping it. Every other machine on the network (there are 3 others if you count the networked tivo!) can ping the printer, the laptop can ping all the other machines, but it won't ping the printer.
I tried disabling windows firewall, it made no difference. I tried leaving the home group as recommended in various forums but again, no difference (can't see it making a difference anyway, since none of the other machines is in the group and it should still ping the printer anyway, no?).
There can't be any wifi b/g separation set up in the router because my laptop and TiVo are both running G and can ping the printer no problem.
I've given up scratching my head on this one and have reached the head/wall stage.
The printer is set up as static IP 10.0.0.10, DHCP range starts at 10.0.0.100 so no chance of any conflict. The laptop has picked up DHCP IP correctly (10.0.0.169, fwiw) with the right netmask.
I should maybe mention that I've a degree in computer science and 15 years IT industry experience; I know what I'm doing with this stuff, so it's nothing blindingly obvious... but this one has me completely stumped.
Oh, if anyone has a fix for the printer disappearing off the net, that would be cool too
    Help!

For what it's worth, it turned out to be (I think) a combination of router/printer settings.
The printer's idle timeout had ended up set to 0, unsure how (possibly when I first set it up I misunderstood the meaning and thought "well I don't ever want it to timeout"); now I'd already changed this back to the default last week when I was first trying to connect the Windows 7 machine but it made no difference; however I hadn't rebooted the router since.
The clue for me was that in the router setup (a Be-branded Thomson 565v7)  the printer came up as "inactive" in the list of devices. Rebooting the router after changing the idle timeout seems to have done the trick - the printer both appears on the net for the Windows 7 machine and stays connected to the wifi.
I still don't understand how the router can have got itself into that state where it will pass some traffic and not others. Perhaps the machines that could ping the printer were the ones that were connected to the net when the router first saw the printer and therefore had seen the arp update.
Maybe if I'd tried harder to force the entry in the arp table on the win7 machine I might be able to answer that; it came up and moaned that I wasn't allowed to do it, even though I was running in a "run as administrator" cmd window, and I gave up (since I figured the arp was getting out there if the other machines could see it).
Anyway, the answer was (at least in my case), check the idle timeout and reboot your router
    Thanks again for your post

  • I can ping, but I can't browse the web

I decided to try out Arch after having used ubuntu for a while, and things seemed to be going fine until I tried to get an AUR package with wget.  I tried pinging aur.archlinux.org and had no problems with that and then I started searching the web.  Eventually I found that wget works with the -4 option.  I could live with that but when I tried to browse the web I found that I couldn't view any web pages.  In fact, it seems like the only internet related tool that I'm not having trouble with is ping, while wget, curl, firefox, and host are all broken unless they have a -4 option I can use.
Here's a sample terminal session where I ping, try wget, then wget -4.

  • Can ping but cannot load site

    Hello,
I have a site a site that will not load in Safari or Firefox (I just get an error that the server is not responding).
I can ping the site in terminal just fine and get 0 packet loss. I can also connect to the site with FTP and can upload files.
    What can cause this?

Works from a Windows box. Nice message...
HTTP and HTTPS both respond. CentOS with Apache?
Telnetting into HTTP is interesting... It doesn't just break when i issue a bad command but spews a fair bit of info out. Pics online there from Europe in 2005 and Fall 2007 among other stuff? There isn't a HTTPS site setup, though it responds to tell me that it has the potnetial for it.
The "can't assign requested address" error you get is interesting. Can you traceroute to it and see what you get? Where phyically and topographically are you and server located? The obvious question is "what's changed since you could last connect on either server or Mac side?". Routing or port binding issue?
I don't have a Mac with me to test with right now. If i remember to have a crack at it when I'm back on the Mac I'll let you know how i go.

  • I can't "ping" but I see the computers in the same network while trying RDA server. What I am doing wrong?

Hi, I would like to know if anyone can help me. It's probably easy but.... The thing is that I have a little network with 5 computers. The network is working perfectly, I mean I can "see" whole the network from all the computers and I can share files and so on. My surprise is that I have tried to make a "ping" between all of them and I didn't recive any answer. I am trying to install the Remote Device Access Server to share a DAQ device in all the network. Oviously when I try to see my DAQ device from the "client" computer appears an error message    <<No system found at adress...>>. Any idea...?
    Thanks.

Also, about PING, the PING service may be down

I'm using Archlinux 64bit and since a system update I can't open any internet address with a browser. Everything else seems to be ok. I can ping to a url or a ip and I can browse with firefox on Windows XP, which is installed on vbox.
Google is full of similar topics. For example: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11721 But nothings from the suggested workarounds helps:
    echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_sack
I've added the testing repository and installed the kernel 2.6.30-3. But it's still not working.
    Any ideas?
    Thomas

    Dear Scott
I disabled ipV6 as told in the wiki and I can now navigate to any page again. I don't really understand what I have done but at least is working!
    Thanks for the help.
    Thomas
