I'm trying to put in a URL like abc.def.com/ghi/jkl but it won't let me enter the forward slashes. Is there any way to make it accept the forward slashes or get around this? Thank you.

The TFTP server is managed by a different company and there are thousands of devices that pull configs from that location. Changing the TFTP server isn't really an option.

Press and hold the power button until the Mac turns itself off. This force-shutdown should be done only after you've exhausted other options (you seem to have done so).
Wait at least 60 seconds.
Then press the power button to start up the Mac. It will take a little longer to start up because it will perform additional self-tests on the first boot after a forced shutdown.
Once the bootup is complete, you should be able to delete the trash. Hold down the option key while choosing to empty the trash, which will automatically delete "locked" items.

If you are using the computer that you normally backup and sync with, it shouldn't be asking for a passcode. If you are not, then you would need to enter it, and I understand that you cannot. There is no way around this requirement, so your only alternative is to use the last backup that you made of the device. Hopefully it wasn't that long ago.

I assume that you don't have a rescue email address (which is not the same thing as an alternate email address) set up on your account, as described in then steps 1 to 5 on the page that you posted from ? If not (you won't be able to add one until you can answer 2 of your questions) then you will need to contact iTunes Support / Apple to get the questions reset.

When they've been reset you can then use those steps to add a rescue email address for potential future use

Just switched from IE, imported my favorites okay, but Firefox won't let me put new bookmarks in the folders. When I select "choose", it shoes no folders. Why?

Firefox doesn't seem to recognize the favorites folders I imported from IE. I can't save a bookmark in any folder I already had when I changed to FF. Tried to update to 4.0, but iTunes won't let me.

Every time I attempt to upgrade my iPhone 3G to version 4.0, I get the following message after clicking the "Update" button:
"This version of iTunes (9.1.1) is the current version."
I can't get past this message, even after restarting several times.

It recognizes that newer software is available.
But the first reply by -JondorZ- is correct. I had to manually download iTunes 9.2 from the Apple web site and install it first. Now it is allowing me to update.

You may want to take a look at the article "Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store" and just download the book directly to the iPhone. the relevent part of that article will be found under Apps, Books, Music, Movies, or TV shows on iOS > Books on iOS

Pre won't let me put in an ip address for a mail server name when adding a new account.

I can type it in, but it won't let me that add the accunt (sign in button doesn't work). If i put a name in there, it lets me click "sign in".
is this a known issue? any workaround for this? we don't have a qualifed name so i need to use the ip address of our mail server.

It was a known issue at the time of launch. There was a recent over-the-air update that addressed at least one Exchange sync issue (now allows http:// in addition to https:// access), but I have not read about whether it resolves the IP Address issue.

The instructions are in that link. Just follow them VERY CAREFULLY. Especially the part about:
Turn off your device and leave it off.
Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes. [but DON'T connect it to the iPhone yet]
Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
When you see the iTunes screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this screen, try steps 1 through 3 again.
When your device is connected, iTunes will open. You'll see a message saying that iTunes has detected an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in recovery mode.
Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable. Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
