RV220W Beta Firmware 1.0.4.17

Is anyone else using the Beta firmware?
There are some improvements.
One can now view alerts and notifications within the software.
Also it appears as if the Protect Link Block Page was reworked to allow direct acces to Trand Micro Website for checking out Blocked URLS.
I also think CPU and memory usage is much improved.
Small Business Support can provide the firmware.

I agree with the thought of Cisco needing to take the SMB market seriously.
I suppose some of the issue, like you alluded to is the division of the products between
Enterprise, Enterprise for Small Business, & Small Business.
Enterprise Grade products are Configurable,Complex & not Plug & Play. Their small business counterparts on the contrary need to be easy to use & easy to setup, but instead they retain some of the complexity of their big brothers.
I was advised to buy an SA520, but chose the RV220W because of price.
That said I do like my RV220W over the Sonic Wall TZ100. As far as ZYXEL their product lijne is somewhat limited.
With Cisco I know they have a full line-up of compatible products for the majority of my needs. The products are well built & generally work well with one another.
I do really like the QOS per VLAN on the RV220W as well as the Protect Link Filter. Also the SSL VPN Portal is a really neat idea -it just doesn't work in Windows 7.
Hopefully we see some of the issues addressed in the next firmware update like slow DHCP assignment, lack of clear logs for Protect Link, & an Easy VPN setup wizard. Actually setup Wizards for everything would be great.
Feature Requests:
Port Forwarding Wizard
Protect Link Wizard
VPN Setup Wizard
QOS Setup Wizard (with AUTO VOIP setting?)
Live logs from all systems including Protect Link.
IPS (in a simplified form)
Connect Protect link & Firwall Conten Filtering.
Allow SSLVPN Portal to work with Windows 7, Windows 8, IE9, Firefox, & Chrome.

I would love to, but the problem is, that throwing beta firmware at the customer without any easy feedback channel for the issues experienced with this software is just plain stupid of CISCO.
I already opened two new cases (see the tags of my latest posted issues) but it took many minutes for a CISCO supporter to do so.
I already suggested to CISCO using an open bug reporting system used so many other places. Large benefits for both customers and CISCO both in time and efficiency.
Just imagine how that would make support procedures at CISCO much more efficient. The current case system is from a time, when each router had the price of a car and the customer was ignorant. It does have the benefit of CISCO support having more time for the customer, but coffee, cake and sweet talk is unfortunately not enough for the current proficient and impatient IT customer.
Quote: "alot of RV220W now out there with very very very few issues."
Please, have a look at e.g. this forum and the internet and you will regret saying this.
Current software is beta quality e.g. the PPOE connectivity issue and the missing NAT loopback/hairpinning preventing our users to use their smartphones for internal services.
These problems are not present at most other less expensive routers in the market including the one which the RV220W replaces and the 8 year old router which the latter replaced.

  • What happened to the Beta firmware downloa

The U.S. Creative support site used to have beta firmwares for download months in advance back when NOMAD Jukebox , 2 & 3 were the newest players, but then they disappeared, howcome?

Actually they only had beta firmware for the NJB, and the NJB firmware is not being developed any more.

There is no reason to be running beta software, I doubt it will even still run as iOS 6 has been officially released.  Or were you simply trying to be funny?
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).  Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.

  • Nokia Beta Firmware! (Treat Customers Fairly)

Nokia released v20.115 for the Nokia N86 8MP. How on earth did this get past testing? The main animation dont work the phone along with other firmware. Nokia should have warned users before updating its a BETA firmware continue at your own risk. Don't know what they been taking while writing up firmware code for the N86.
For future firmware release I would like Nokia to inform users that whether firmware is BETA or not. Customers should not be used as guinea pigs for testing new firmware unless they actually sign up to a BETA programme from Nokia. This is not fair to the customers.
I was wondering if the mods can pass this to the relevant firmware tea. In future the firmware team should do more testing before releasing and mention on FOTA or NSU that its a BETA firmware or not.
The Nokia N86 v20.115 is a BETA firmware from Nokia !
What are your opinions on this?

    Kudos!Nokia N86 8MP (v20.115 / RM-484)
    Symbian-Master

You should count yourself lucky, the N97 hasn't had a production level firmware release to date!
V10 constantly crashed, V11 worked but was full of stupid bugs that even basic testing (i.e. use the phone for a day) would have found, and V12 fixed very few of these and screwed up loads of existing wireless connection configurations requiring some rather involved backup/reset procedures to get things to work again.
I don't know what has happened to Nokia's quality control in the past few years. It seems that now because people can perform firmware updates at home they think this is a valid excuse to issue "it compiles, ship it!" firmware.

  • RV220W - disappointing firmware update strategy

Due to the large amount of known issues which are still open with the actual firmware release v1.0.4.17 and due to the fact that there hasn't been any new release since 21-AUG-2012, I'm really disappointed about the firmware release stategy of the Cisco SMB section.
Does anyone know anything about what's comming and when it may be expected?

I have the same random reboot problem and I am quite sure that this is related to bittorrent application in my case.
Even with no BT tasks but with the bittorrent client running, the router would reboot by itself randomly from once a day or as many as several times daily. However, the router stay alive for months if I turn off all BT clients, regardless how heavy loading I have for activities other than BT. Approached twice the cisco support earlier this year with no clues. I did some heavy research and tunes on the matter and somebody said it might be due to the router ran out of "network translation table", or similar, I forgot what the term it is exactly. For now, I simply turn off all BT clients when I don't need BT.
Honestly I am quite pleased of other features of this RV220w, e.g. IPSEC, SSLVPN, fast performance, etc. Still this random reboot problem irritate me to some content. Hopefully the new firmware will come soon to tackle this problem then I will recommend this product to my friends.

  • Beta Firmware for RG45GS

    Hi peeps,
I am a technical Journalist from South Africa and have been using this product for a while now. Apart from the lack of certain feauters (I felt) mine also froze at random times. So being in the press I spoke to some people and one of the technical guys at MSI gave me the new Beta Bios for the RG45GS. I just installed it and I am happy to report that there are some nifty extra features. I have not been able to see if it cleared up my problem yet but I thought I should share this file with other to see if it helps them.
Please post here your feelings about this firmware and whether it solved your problems. Your input is much appreciated.
"While upgrading, don’t turn off the power or unplug the Ethernet cable. The process will take about 1 minute."
    http://pcstuff.co.za/msi/rg54gs_combo.gzh'
    Enjoy

Beautiful. This upgrade fixed my PPPOE connection problem.
I am now much, much happier.
I was a little apprehensive to apply an upgrade not from MSI. Still the RG54GS allows you to recover from a bad upgrade back to the original firmware (see the manual) to I decided to try this.
The first thing I saw was no PING/PONG on the ADSL modem lights when the PPPOE connection was enabled. The second thing was "connected" in the status page. Never seen that before, despite getting PPPOE init OK in the log messages.
More options on the PPPOE connection setup.
    MTU length setting.
    DNS specification.
Much, Much happier. I just wish MSI would own up to the original problems, drop in here and say "we are working on it". Getting stuff that doesn't work does not make one happy.

  • Beta Firmware 2.0.0.7-K9 WRVS4400Nv2 dual-band?

I thing that fw 2.0.0.7-k9 is quite good and is much much better than 1.0.0.9 (witch was useless). I don't have problem with router since I upgraded fw. What I'm really looking for is that new fw would have dual-band 2.4 and 5 GHz. I heard that radio in this router can handle both freq. - is it true?

    Good Morning,
At this time we will pass you request up the ladder to the engineers, we are not working on any updates for the firmware for this device.
Please monitor the boards and firmware upgrades for any future changes.
    have a good day :)

I am trying to install iOS 4.3 on my iPad. I alt click the 'Check for Updates' button, choose the .ipsw file but when I try to update, the update fails and I am put into recovery mode.

    Thanks in advance!

First of all, Using the link prvided doesn't work it just won't find the firmware.
Second, when I do it manually I get to a link for may snap crackle pop-Sigma and I download it.
    BUT...
The link states the firmware should be 538,64 KB, but when I download it I get something that is 05 KB.
    And it's NOT a Win32 program...
Is Creative doing this to see if they can annoy their customers or what.
THANK GOD that I don't have anyone responsible here att this moment.
BTW, I have been in contact with Creatives support and since they assume that everybody using their products doesn't know **bleep** about computers, I will probably not get anywhere with my crappy Sigma headphones until Jesus is reborn or something.
    **bleep** I'm angry now.

    1. I was bothered with this one with my previous N95 8GB. It should be fixed in. Otherwise there is an 3rd party application that'll do the job for you. Unfortunately I forgot the name. Psyko knows it.
