RV220W PPPoE problems
Hi I am just trying to setup an RV220w on a FTTC BT Openreach modem and am finding that the router will not establish a connection.
In the logs I have seen the following:
Sat Jan 1 00:06:21 2000(GMT) [rv220w][System][PLATFORM] pppoeMgmtTblHandler: pppoe enable failed
Sat Jan 1 00:06:21 2000(GMT) [rv220w][System][PLATFORM] pppoeMgmtDBUpdateHandler: error in executing database update handler
I have seen some issues that people are having with the 1.0.1.0 firmware, in particular PPPoE issues. I note the router came preinstalled with 1.0.1.0 so have downgraded to 1.0.0.26.
I have removed the settings and tried again, but receive the same error message above.
The PPPoE settings are as follows:
username: [******]@[**********].[***]
password: [******************]
Authentication Type: Auto-Negotiate
At a bit of a loss what is going on ? I have tried resetting it to factory defaults on firmware 1.0.0.26 and entered the details again, but have the same error.
Has anyone else had success on this, I have other PPPoE devices that work absolutely no problems?
Have you tried installing the Visual C++ Redistributable 2005? On 64-bit machines install both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions.

Weird PPPoE problem with new Time Capsule
OK, so this is a long and tedious saga, but I don't know what details are important and what are irrelevant.
I had an old AirPort Extreme which was giving me problems. I could connect to the internet fine when I connected my MacBook directly to the DSL modem via the Ethernet cable, but when the same cable was plugged into my old AirPort it thought that there was no Ethernet cable connected to the WAN port. The AirPort was over five years old, so I figured that it was just past its time, and I kinda wanted a Time Capsule anyway for wireless backup, so I went to the Apple Store and bought one today.
I just tried to set it up, and AirPort Utility is telling me, "This Apple wireless device is set up to connect to the Internet using PPPoE but no PPPoE server can be found. Make sure your Internet service provider requires that you use PPPoE, and make sure that the modem is turned on and connected to this Apple wireless device's WAN port and try again. If you still can't connect to the server, contact your service provider."
Well, I did contact my ISP (AT&T Yahoo!), and they said that if I can connect directly via Ethernet, the problem has to be with the Time Capsule or its settings, so they can't help me. I've tried power cycling the DSL modem and Time Capsule, and I keep getting the same problem. Does anyone have a clue what might be going on? (I'll probably call AppleCare when they're open, but I thought someone here might be able to shed some light on the situation.)
Thanks!I had a similar problem (to name one) and couldn't resolve it... I packed it back up and am returning it tomorrow.
All these people have all these solutions but none of them should have to do any of it! That is the biggest problem I have with the TC. They give you a small little guide to set everything up and it doesn't deal with any of this. With networks and computers as they are right now.... you should not have to do any of this at all. You should be able to plug it in, answer a few easy to answer questions like it does ask and then it should configure itself just as any other network device I have purchased in the last 2 years. Even my PS3 I bought last week did it by itself by only asking a few questions! (Same as my macbook... so you know they can do it)
Now.. say you do get it all set up and it works great... hope you don't have kids that like to play their XBox 360 online because guess what.... it isn't compatible with the TC wireless!!! If you want to use your PS3.... you have to buy more stuff.
No.... do yourself a favor... go buy the D-Link DIR-655 that has a USB storage link... hook it up and be in business in 10 minutes. You can also get a 1TB WD external hard drive for $209.00 and hook it up direct to your mac and use time machine and transfer files faster than a mule walking up hill. -
Hi,
I have problems connecting my APe to the internet with PPPoE.
Normaly my APe is configured as a wireless client of my
existing network only used for airtunes.
Now I want to use the APe at another place as DSL-router. So
I´ve setup a new profile using following config:
Wireless Mode: Create a Wireless Network (Home Router)
Internet Connect using: PPPoE
Network: Share a single IP address (using DHCP & NAT)
Connection to the new wireless network an the APe works
fine: I get an IP from the APe and can ping the APe
If I connect the APe to my DSL-Modem (ethernet modem, not
usb), the light gets green but I´m not connected to the
internet.
I´ve validated the PPPoE login with another router.
I´ve reset the modem and APe several times.
I´ve reset the APe th factory defaults and create an new
config.
I´ve setup a syslog-daemon and set syslogging to debug on
the APe, but only got following messages:
ppp: Connecting via ethernet (user "MYUSERNAME" service "").
ppp: Connecting via ethernet (user "MYUSERNAME" service "").
ppp: Connecting via ethernet (user "MYUSERNAME" service "").
Firmware: Apple Base Station V6.3
Does anyone have a tip to solve this problem?
Thanks
carsten
Windows XP ProI don't know that much about Windows. I will only setup a shared folder for my clients who have a Windows laptop from work to share docs with their Mac at home. What I have found to work is to setup the Base Station to connect to the ISP (if they use PPPoE) via PPPoE (Point To Point Protocol over Ethernet) and then set the computer so that it will not attempt to connect to the base station via PPPoE. In the Mac operating System there is a check box that says "connect via PPPoE". I uncheck that box. If that box in OSX is checked it will continue to try to make the connection to the ISP and always fail. Their must be some kind of conflict. There may be a different way of doing it but I am not aware of it. I am sticking to what works and the above works without any problems. As I said I am not that familiar with Windows at this point so I don't know what choices are available when setting up the computer. With Boot Camp coming out I may have to delve a little deeper into it as I am sure that I will have clients asking me to setup a partition on their drive in order to run Windows. My question is are you using PPP on a dialup? If you are on dialup then that is a different story. If you mentioned a dialup connection on your post, then I missed that and I apologize.

PPPoE problem with Authorization of the ip-address (Framed-IP)
Hi!
This week I changed our PPPoE dial-in router from a Cisco 3660 (SW: 12.4.25) to a Cisco 2901 (SW 151-2.T2-Universal Image).
Now I have the problem that I could not make a dial-in connection to this router. I get an error in the PPP-Authorization.
I want to get the IP-Address per radiusattribut "Framed-IP-Address". With the version 12.4. it works fine.

HannesHi Shelley!
Thanks for your answer. We have solved the problem.
It was a wrong configuration in the templete.
The attribut "Framed-IP-Address" was configured in the templete and in the default-attributes of the radius-server.
Thanks for help!

PPPoE problem - solution for review
I'm posting this to save others the search after I troubleshot a painful issue, which wiser types may be able to clarify the background.
Equipment: DLink DSL 504T Gen II; MBP 2008; AEBSdual-n 2009
Problem: Set up new AEBSdual-n, set up security, PPPoE to bridged modem and accept all default networking settings. With correct username & p/w, AEBS fails to authenticate, flashing yellow and generally not responding to Airport Utility very well, even by wired connection...
Solution: Noticed that default DHCP prefix in Airport is 10.x.x.x which is the same ilk as the Dlink DSL 504T. Wonder if the subnets are clashing or something. Try changing DHCP prefix given out by AEBS to 192.168.x.x and all works fine. Note that to achieve this I had to hard reset (power and reset button at once) to restore default settings.
Those wiser than me can look at the reasons, but I wanted to post a likely solution for many others I've read when researching the problem.
Cheers,
Tim

Rp-pppoe problem (probability of the dialing's failure)
network environment: adsl
i use rp-pppoe to dial. sometimes the 'pppoe-start' was 'TimeOut'. In the process of 'pppoe-start', there was any signal of dialing on my modem(the 'data indicator light' of the modem is always off).
And i have to reboot my computer and try 'pppoe-start' again, there's a chance that 'connected'.

log into your modem, and post your line stats (snr, attenuation, etc.)
but i had tried to dial in my XP os , there was not any problem. So i believe the line and the modem are ok. and thanks for your reply -

I have the following problem with my Linksys WRT160N v1 router. I'am trying to connect to my ISP using PPPoE. Everything is configured, but the machine behind the router cant connect to the internet. I have tried the following firmware versions:
WRT160N_1.02.2_US_code.bin
WRT160Nv1_1.2.08.005
It's not an ISP issue because my old belkin router works fine.
The pppoe connection between router and internet work fine and connection between the client and the router work fine too.
Connection between client and internet doesn't work.
Please help!Yes, the router is connected to the ISP obtains ip address etc, and is accessible from the internet (ping, web administration etc.). Ping from the router (via the web interface) to internet sites works too. The client is correctly configured and is connected to the router (ping ok), but is unable to connect to the internet - seems like ip forwarding of NAT issue. Tried with different firmware versions, reset many times etc... and is still not working. My old Belkin router works fine with the same settings. Any other ideas? Thanks in advance!

I am new to networking so I will do my best to express the problem I am having:
We replaced our router last weekend with the RV220w and ever since we did that we have problems getting to external websites. The most ironic one would be cisco.com, we can't get to it. We get a Server Not Found on our web browser(s). I've tried Firefox 7 and 8, IE 8 and 9 and Safari.
Other issue we are having is that sometimes when we do get to a site the page is loaded wrong, not sure how to explain this one. It is like it displays all the text but doesn't display the structure of the site (no color, no background image, no tables, etc, etc)
I've tried firmare 1.0.2.4 and 1.0.3.5 and we have the same result. I've disabled PPTP server which I have read in many forums causing other problems.
Any ideas?
MichaelHi Michael,
This sounds like an MTU issue. (Packet fragmentation) If you are using DSL, go to Networking-> WAN-> IPv4 WAN Configuration and at the bottom of the page change the MTU to custom. Lower the MTU in increments of 10, starting at 1492. Usually you will find that the pages start loading properly after you lower the Maximum Transmission Unit. To find the correct MTU to use without guessing you can do an MTU test.
http://help.expedient.com/broadband/mtu_ping_test.shtml
The value that you get after adding 28 is what you input in the RV220W.

RV012 PPPOE problem with Googlemail.
I have been installing an RV016 in one of our client sites and have come across a really strange problem which is delaying the completion of the project.
Basically any time I activate a pppoe connection on the RV016 googlemail stops working both with webmail access (the mailbox never loads) and with thunderbird imap (get a bad mac error). When the pppoe is disabled gmail starts working again.
The problem I have is that the client bought the router so that he could connect his cable internet and 3 adsl internet connections to a single router. However as the company emails are hosted on google apps and gmail does not funcion correctly when the adsl connections are activated I am at a loss. We have zeroed the configuration and just connected one of the velox connections without the cable and googlemail doesnt work however with just the cable connection connected gmail works fine.
I was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what the problem could be.Try Binding HTTPS (if thats what googlmail is using) to one of the WAN ports

Hello,
i have a problem with my rv220w router.
- DHCP request are not always answered
- ping's in a network take part between 200-500 ms
- Is after the router a switch, devices are behind the switch do not work sometimes. No DHCP is working.
On the router is the actual firmware.
have you any idea?
ps: Please excuse my english.Hi Martin, thank you for using our forum, my name is Johnnatan I am part of the Small business Support community. I apologize for your issue you are having, I was wondering about your firmware version, just ensure you are running the current version (1.0.4.17)if not you can download it here
If you already are running the correct firmware you could check the MTU size, in this case I advise you to decrease or increase in order to find the correct size for your device.
If the issue continues you can perform a factory reset and configure the device manually just the basic configuration, because it looks like a low performance issue. I hope you find this answer useful

Any suggestions for what can be the problem?hello,
Still is not working. Ip routing is activated by default and ip classless too in 12.4 ios version.
I have deleted the dialer interface and reconfig it. Then tried first with the ppp ipcp route default, but still not receiving the default route.
I have been putting back the static route with dialer 1 exit interface.

hey guys,
I have a problem with my 'wrt54gs with speedboaster router'. My internet connection is with PPPoE. I've used the router option to connect it with PPPoE. The router gets connected with my ISP with PPPoE, gets the IP-s, DNS-es and everything, I can also ping any host with the router's diagnostic tools, which means that the router is connected sucessfully with PPPoE and is having internet, but the problem is that when the internet is shared through the internal network (the 192.168.1.xxx one), my computer gets IP with DHCP and also the ISP's DNS-es, but I the internet does not work. Something is failing while the internet is being shared from PPPoE to my computer. And one thing to tell is that the PPPoE network has the subnet mask 255.255.255.255 and the internal network has the subnet mask 255.255.255.0.
Anyone knows what is the problem??
best regards.Ok, so it's cable broadband. You might want to enable MAC address cloning. Go to http://kb.linksys.com and search for anything related to "cable" internet. You may even try searching for your ISP name (eg: comcast).
Also, software that comes from your ISP (if any) is designed to work without a router "in between" modem and PC. If you have that installed, remove it.

Helped needed. PPPoE problem
In trying to secure my wireless connection, I changed a lot of the router's default settings. Somewhere along the line, I have lost the ability to get to the internet on the Linksys. Here are the sys details.
WIN XP
Westell 2100 broadband modem
Linksys WRT54G
I usually have everything set so that the Westell is in Bridged mode. The problem was nothing was secure.
Here is what is on the Linksys.
PPPoE,
User Name: It is correct.
Password: It is correct.
Service Name:
Connecton Demand : Max Idle Time 5 Min.
KeepAlive : Redial Period Sec. 180
Optional Settings
(required by some ISPs)

Router IP Local IP Address: . . .
Subnet Mask:

Server Settings (DHCP) DHCP Server: Enable Disable

Maximum Number of DHCP Users:
Client Lease Time: minutes (0 means oneday)
Static DNS 1: . . .
Static DNS 2: . . .
Static DNS 3: . . .
WINS: . . .
IP address: 192.168.1.101
Mask is correct
Gateway: 192.168.1.1
There are no ACCESS Restrictions, no MAC Filters, Wireless Security is currently DISABLED. I have pushed the reset button on the Linksys (and the Westell, too) trying to fix things and nothng changed.
Here is what is on the desktop.
Dhcp enabled: Yes
Autoconfiguration enabled: Yes
IP address: 192.168.1.101
Subset Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1
Dhcp Server: 192.168.1.1
DNS servers: 192.168.1.1
I have done power cycles to no avail.
Any help will be appreciated.Since you have Resetted your Modem and Router. Connect the Modem to Computer and check if you are able to go online or not. If yes, then on your computer open the Command Prompt window and type "ipconfig" and hit enter and post the details output in your next post.
If the IP address of your Modem is in the range of your Router, then your modem is Unbridge so you need to Bridge your Modem again. -
EA6900 PPPOE problems with D-link DSL-320b
Hi
I really hope someone can help as I can't seem to find a working answer in the forum yet.
I have a new D-Link DSL-320B modem/router. This works fine as a modem/router, however as I also now have a Linksys EA6900 router I wanted to stop the router part of the D-link so it would just be a modem. I assume this would be a good thing to do, but don't really know why.
I followed instructions to configure the D-Link modem/router as a bridge:
I set the Manual ASDL Connection Setup in Bridge mode '1483 Bridged IP LLC' (note I also tried in the 'Bridged IP VC-Mux' option at a later point), VPI 0 and VCI 38 (as per my ISP instructions), saved the settings and then under the LAN tab I disabled the DHCP Server, saved the settings and lost internet connection (which I expected).
I then attached the D-Link into the WAN port of the EA6900, the computer via ethernet to one of the 4 ethernet ports on the EA6900 and manually set up the EA6900.
Under 'Connectivity'-'Internet Settings' I set up the ipv4 to:
Connection Type: PPPoE
Username/Password (as provided by my ISP which had previously worked in the D-Link standalone)
Service name (left blank)
Connection mode: Keep Alive, redial 30 secs
On the right hand side of the page, I set the MTU to manual and size to 1432 (again as per my ISP instructions on setting up routers).
However, after pressing applying, whilst the device is connected to the router, the router is not connected to the internet.
Am I missing something? Should I just leave my DSL D-Link with the ADSL connection and DHCP server enabled and put the EA6900 into Connection Type: automatic configuration -DHCP? as this does give me internet access.
Please help.
Many thanks in advance
HannahTo isolate the issue I recommend connecting a computer directly to the modem. The create PPPoe connection to test whether or not the Modem is actually bridging as per your ISP instructions. Once you verify that the modem is bridging with your computer transfer those settings to the EA6900. Don't change the MTU from Auto initially. Only change the MTU if you notice you can get to some site and not others. That's typically a sign that there is an MTU issue. Actually for PPPoe the MTU is typically 1492.
Please remember to Kudo those that help you.
