  • RV220W Beta Firmware 1.0.4.17

Is anyone else using the Beta firmware?
    There are some improvements.
One can now view alerts and notifications within the software.
Also it appears as if the Protect Link Block Page was reworked to allow direct acces to Trand Micro Website for checking out Blocked URLS.
I also think CPU and memory usage is much improved.
Small Business Support can provide the firmware.

I agree with the thought of Cisco needing to take the SMB market seriously.
I suppose some of the issue, like you alluded to is the division of the products between
Enterprise, Enterprise for Small Business, & Small Business.
Enterprise Grade products are Configurable,Complex & not Plug & Play. Their small business counterparts on the contrary need to be easy to use & easy to setup, but instead they retain some of the complexity of their big brothers.
I was advised to buy an SA520, but chose the RV220W because of price.
That said I do like my RV220W over the Sonic Wall TZ100. As far as ZYXEL their product lijne is somewhat limited.
With Cisco I know they have a full line-up of compatible products for the majority of my needs. The products are well built & generally work well with one another.
I do really like the QOS per VLAN on the RV220W as well as the Protect Link Filter. Also the SSL VPN Portal is a really neat idea -it just doesn't work in Windows 7.
Hopefully we see some of the issues addressed in the next firmware update like slow DHCP assignment, lack of clear logs for Protect Link, & an Easy VPN setup wizard. Actually setup Wizards for everything would be great.
    Feature Requests:
    Port Forwarding Wizard
    Protect Link Wizard
    VPN Setup Wizard
QOS Setup Wizard (with AUTO VOIP setting?)
Live logs from all systems including Protect Link.
    IPS (in a simplified form)
Connect Protect link & Firwall Conten Filtering.
Allow SSLVPN Portal to work with Windows 7, Windows 8, IE9, Firefox, & Chrome.

  • RV220W VPN

Ugh. I've spent endless hours trying to get the VPN to work. I've done all the recommended actions for QuickVPN (run as Vista SP2, disable avast, enable windows firewall, disable windows defender, create windows ICMPv4 rules, turned on IPSEC services, disabled other network adapters) but I can NEVER connect. It always comes up with waiting for network.
I set up PPTP today. And it worked partially. I was able to access the RV220W but unable to browse any other networked devices or even access the internet. I ran the windows diagnostic tool and it said it was a DNS issue on the remote side.
Can someone please guide me before I end up ripping this device off the network? Much appreciated!

    Troy,
    What is your OS?
Does the RV220W have a static WAN IP?
    Who is the ISP?
    Where are you connecting FROM?
Does the local router have a different IP than the RV2220W?
Is the RV220W on the latest firmware?

  • RV220W, VPN client, and Full Tunnel vs Split Tunnel capabilities

For an RV220W, which VPN client mode (of the three possibilities) supports which Tunnel mode?
This is mostly a question, and partly "in use" observations.
Background: I have been able to get all three different VPN clients to work with an RV220W, but only one of the three works in "Full Tunnel"  mode (SSL VPN). And since I know one of the three -- the Cisco QuickVPN client -- will never with in that mode, do we know if an RV220W will with an IPSec client in Full Tunnel Mode?
If anyone answers yes, the next question will be vpn client and how did you configure it, client and RV220W, to make full tunnel work.
Summary of VPN modes I've gotten to work with an RV220W:
    Client
    Split Tunnel Works?
    Full Tunnel Works?
    OS?
    Notes
    SSL VPN
    Yes
    Yes
    Win7/64
    IE10 or IE11
    QuickVPN
    Yes
    No
    Win7/64
    IPSec VPN
    Yes
    No
    Win7/64
    Shrew Soft VPN Client

I have to mark this as not a correct answer.
Reason: 0.0.0.0 will not go into either of the fields listed above, message is "Invalid IP address Please enter a value between 1 - 223 at xxx.0.0.0.".
To Michal Bruncko who posted this:
1.) 0.0.0.0 will not work in my router nor in the RV220W online emulator here, (general emulator page here), am I missing something obvious?
2.) Have you used these actual settings on your router, or did you answer in a theoretical, "this should work" way?

  • RV220W - disappointing firmware update strategy

Due to the large amount of known issues which are still open with the actual firmware release v1.0.4.17 and due to the fact that there hasn't been any new release since 21-AUG-2012, I'm really disappointed about the firmware release stategy of the Cisco SMB section.
Does anyone know anything about what's comming and when it may be expected?

I have the same random reboot problem and I am quite sure that this is related to bittorrent application in my case.
Even with no BT tasks but with the bittorrent client running, the router would reboot by itself randomly from once a day or as many as several times daily. However, the router stay alive for months if I turn off all BT clients, regardless how heavy loading I have for activities other than BT. Approached twice the cisco support earlier this year with no clues. I did some heavy research and tunes on the matter and somebody said it might be due to the router ran out of "network translation table", or similar, I forgot what the term it is exactly. For now, I simply turn off all BT clients when I don't need BT.
Honestly I am quite pleased of other features of this RV220w, e.g. IPSEC, SSLVPN, fast performance, etc. Still this random reboot problem irritate me to some content. Hopefully the new firmware will come soon to tackle this problem then I will recommend this product to my friends.

  • Which RV220W VPN-setup do I choose in the following situation?

My RV220W has a fixed IP-address on its WAN and there is an ISP-provided FQDN with reverse lookup available. Is it possible to setup an IPsec VPN on this box that a Mac laptop can connect to the VPN from any location world wide that does not actively block VN traffic in some way?
I know a PPTP connection to the server on my LAN works, but I'd rather have an IPsec connection to the RV220W and turn the PPTP server on the host inside my LAN off.
If this is possible, what do I enter where in the wizard?
I have been unable to get this from the manual or by trying to find a recipe somewhere on the net,

It explains how to set up the RV220w for IPSec, and connecting using free IPSec clients on both Windows and MacOS.

  • RV220W - VPN PPP & RDP problem

    Hello!
This is my first post here, so welcome!
I have purchased RV220W router and implemented into the existing netowork. Everything seems to work fine except logging into rdp desktops of wxp's on the local network in the office.
I'm not using router's VPN capabilities. I have made a connection through one of the WXP's VPN locally in the office. I login with password as PPP connection. Everything works fine, but I can only connect through RDP to the machine that is making the connection by "VPN IP". I cannot login to any IP that is local in the office. I can not ping either.
We are using also Macs and the same problem is when connecting with ScreenSharing and pinging.
It is definitely something to be set on the router.
If you have any idea, I would apprecite your help!

    Hi again!
After reading similar post I found a "solution".
I have manually put actual RV220W IP as router ip (except of the ip of the XP that is making the vpn connection) on the computer I'm connected to VPN and now it's working fine.
Anyway, thanks for approving this thread.
    Cheers,
    Adam

  • Airport Extreme Base Station ,VPN, firmware 7.4.2 and 7.5.2

    Hi,
I have an AEBS Dual Band ( Gen 1). In Dec of 2010 I 'discovered' that a VPN server came with
MacOSX (client) and browsing the internet yielded instructions on how to turn the rascal on.
VPN uses udp ports 500, 1701, and 4500.
Every thing worked great until the beginning of the year. One morning I came down and
could no longer connect to the VPN running on my home network. ( note I was running
    firmware 7.5.2).
Everything seemed to be working fine except that the VPN could not be reached ie there
was no log activity from racoon ( normally the connecting and authentication messages
    appear in the system log.)
I went crazy for a couple of weeks, I could not understand if the problem was due
to my ISP or some malconfiguration on the machine hosting the VPN server.
I finally tried directly attaching the server to the cable modem and found I was able
to access the VPN from my iPad running on the 3G network.
I was also able to connect to the VPN ok from within my home network.
I found a simple python server and told it to listen to port 500 on the server and sent a
datagram from the iPad to the WAN address of the router and port 500 and found that
the datagram was not being passed through the router.
It appeared that even though the airport configuration showed that the VPN ports
where being forwarded to the server, in fact they were not.
I tried un-mapping and re-mapping the ports several times, it did no good.
I did some resets ( from within the Airport Utility and manually, holding the reset
button and applying power until the front light starting blinking ( I let it blink
    for about 10 seconds).
    It did no good.
I took the AEBS out and replaced it with an old Linksys WRT54G router while I
pondered the problem. ( the Linksys 'apparently ' did not support VPN).
The next day I did some more hard resets and reconfigures and suddenly
it was back to normal so I replaced the Linksys with the AEBS.
Everything worked fine for about a month and then one night we had a short
    power fail.
The next morning the router seemed to be working ok but again the system log
showed no activity when attempting to connect to the VPN.
While I was pondering what to do I plugged the Linksys back into the cable
modem and tried again to see if I get the router to work with the VPN.
Again initially trying to connect to the VPN failed. Just for the heck of it
I turned off uPnP in the Linksys and viòla it worked...
I decided to try the next generation AEBS Dual Band II model. I dashed off
to the Apple Store and brought it home. I set it and and upgraded from 7.5.1
to 7.5.2 and it worked with the VPN immediately, I was happy.
I then plugged to Gen 1 router back into the cable modem and downgraded
the firmware to 7.4.2 and it instantly started working properly.
I then took the old one out and put the new gen 2 model back in and
the VPN no longer was accessible, madness and rage soon followed.
I did a couple of hard resets, it did no good. I downgraded to 7.5.1, it did
no good, I upgraded again to 7.5.2 did still did not work with the VPN.
Unfortunately the 7.4.2 firmware will not install into the gen 2 models.
I have decided to keep the old AEBS and keep the 7.4.2 firmware installed.
I have had a single failure with the old firmware but I was able to fix
the problem with unmapping the VPN ports and then remapping the
rascals. This technique does not work with 7.5.2.
I suspect persons with the new gen 2 model are hosed if they want to
    use VPN...
It is going back to apple this week.
Anyone else have better luck with using VPN and AEBS?
    Jerry

I had to downgrade to 7.4.2 on my Time Capsule to get VPN to work, but now Time Machine no longer works. Looks like it's an either/situation for me until Apple fixes this one.

  • RV220W VPN Setup

I am trying to setup and configure a VPN on the RV220W that uses IPSEC so I can use the Cisco VPN Client I use at work, I have gone through the user manual 11 or 12 times now but still cannot work it out. I cannot find where on the Rv200W iset up the phase 1 authentication username and password which will then lead me onto the phase 2 stage of asking for a username password to allow me access.
Does any one have a simple step by step guide to this?
    Many Thanks

Tom's right.  The only Cisco Small Business class routers that support the Cisco 5.x client are the SA500 Series routers.  I don't see them changing that because the Cisco 5.x client is nearing end of support.  If anything they would add Cisco AnyConnect support.  That's the latest, greatest VPN tech from Cisco.
We can help you setup SSL VPN (for Windows and/or Mac OSX Snow Leopard) and/or IPSec VPN (using IPSecuritas for Mac OSX and/or Shrewsoft/Quick VPN/Greenbow for Windows).  You have lots of options to get VPN access to your RV220W.  The RV220W even supports PPTP VPN which works with the Apple iPhone, iPad, etc.

  • RV220W VPN setup for iPad

How to step a IPSec connection for iPad with this Firewall appliance?
Thank you in advance for your help...

1)check that Local LAN (Local Network) IP Address number shows  actually a NET address and not a host address, if it is a 192.168.1.1  /24 then, the value should be 192.168.1.0
2)make sure that 'Block WAN Request' is disable
    3)disable PFS
4)delete the VPN configuration and re-do it againg and reboot te router to make sure that old configuration has been deleted.
5)Check Firewall settings "depending on the operating system"
6)Try to create another VPN to a different location from the one  giving the issues to make sure the issue is not related to this specific  location

  • RV220W VPN Monitoring

Hi all, I was wondering if there is a way to configuring monitoring on a IPSEC site-to-site VPN.  I only need the basics such as status and maybe response times.  Is there any way to implement this with functionality on the router or do I need to find another tool to do so?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Hi Ken,
I tested a free syslog server software with a WRV210 router some time ago. If I recall correctly all URLs that I visited were collected by that server. I think the software was from Solarwinds and it was running on Windows XP.

  • Connecting an iPhone/iPad to RV220W's VPN

    Hi
I am looking to purchase the RV220W router. I am interested to know if I can use the iPhone/iPad to create a VPN connection to this router.
I have seen a lot of conflicting information about this so I am looking for a confirmation .
    Thanks,
    Alex

    Hello,
Just to people with the same challange:
I can confirm that it´s possible to connect with iOS (iPhone 4S iOS Version 6.0.1) to RV220W (Firmware 1.0.4.17)
    Steps on RV220W:
         1) Enable Remote Mangement (Administration-->Remotemanagement-->Remotemanagment enable
         2) Activate PPTP Server on RV220W (VPN-->IPSec-->VPN Users)
         3) Create User for PPTP Access (VPN-->IPSec-->VPN Users) Protocoll: "PPTP"
    Steps on iPhone
         1) Create new VPN Connection (Setting-->General-->VPN--> Add VPN Configuration
         2) Choose "PPTP"
              as "tekliu" above mentioned:
              RSA SecureID:OFF
              Encryption Level: AUTO
              Send All Traffic: ON
              Proxy: OFF

  • RV220W bricked after firmware upgarde ?

I had a well running RV220W with firmware 1.0.1.0 running. I did a firmware upgrade, but that failed: during the upgrade process, the browser kept on spinning trying to open the page, but failed. The router has two lights flashing one after the other: DMZ and one next to wireless light (no name on it).
What can I do to revive it ?

Did you try to hold the reset button for 12 seconds?
If that doesn't work. It does have a limited life-time warranty you can return it to the reseller or call Cisco.

I've tried the most common stuff.
Enabling ICMP, checked that remote administration runs on port 443, changed MTU to 1400 manually, It allows fragmented packages too.
Checked that IKE and IPSec services are running.
I've also tried both with windows firewall ON and OFF.
A collegue of mine had the same problem in the same timeframe as me, but after a while - he suddently was able to connect.
    I still can't!!
    Firmware Version:        1.0.2.4
Anyone got a fix for this?
    Edit: IP is not real.

Ok, so I had a chat with Cisco - and it seems like the setup on the RV220W was done correctly and was working fine.
Showed me a few things that could come in handy checking out when running diag on the quickvpn.
I disabled all antivirus realtime checks, opened 443 and 500 inbound to my computer - checked that the QuickVPN.exe had an exception in the windows firewall, and that the firewall was enabled.
Also checked that the services was set tu Auto and Started.
Rebooted computer, and I was able to connect!
Now I'm working my way back to the setup I had, to figure out what went wrong in the first place.

  • Help in setting up VPN for Remote Desktop

    Hi,
We recently purchased a Cisco RV220W VPN Router and want to set up VPN connections for about 10 users(employess) to connect to their work PCs (mostly win 7 & win 8) from their home computers (windows & mac) using Remote Desktop. The documentation is quite poor. Can anyone point me to a tutorial and/or help me out with steps and settings? From the Admin Guide, it looks like I should be configuring Remote Access with an IPsec Client, but it's not clear how to handle/route multiple machines?

    Hi Ray,
You can use the QuickVPN client to connect up to Windows 7 PCs. Windows 8 is not supported as of yet.
For Windows 8 and Mac you can create PPTP users or try a third party VPN client like Shrewsoft (Windows) or IPSecuritas (Mac). You also have the SSL VPN option in the RV220W. Please note that the third party clients are not officially supported by Cisco.
There are some good instructions for setting up Shrewsoft with the SA500 which is similar to the RV220W here:
    https://supportforums.cisco.com/docs/DOC-9378#comment-7216
    IPSecuritas for Mac:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/multi_function_security/multi_function_security_appliance/sa_500/technote/note/SA500_mac_appnote.pdf
Please reply if you have any questions.
