RVS4000 not acquiring WAN DHCP IP

Hello.
My newly bought RVS4000 does not get any DHCP IP address for its WAN.
Router:   RVS4000
Router Firmware Version:   1.3.20
Cable Modem:   Motorola SB5101U
ISP:   Charter Commnications
RJ-45 connection between Cable Modem and RVS4000:   RJ-45 Cat6 Cross-over cable
All computers are receving DHCP IP address but no internet connection when I connect the cable modem to the RVS4000. RVS4000 settings is all on default - there should be internet connection even in factory default settings since the environment is simple home networking.
However, the internet connection is wokring when I connect the computer that the Charter technician connected the cable modem when they installed the service. But when I connect the other computers directly on the same cable modem, there is "Limited or No Connectivity" - that does not happen to the computer where the Charter technician connected the cable modem when they installed the service.
Not sure how Charter internet distribution structure works but if my hunch is correct, Charter is recording MAC address of devices that is connected to their internet service; connecting other devices like additional computers and a router/gateway won't have any working internet connection since those have different Mac address(es). I thought of that since I tried connecting my laptop via Ethernet cable directly to the cable modem and does not receive any DHCP IP. I also tried the same connection on another desktop computer but to no success.
Anyone knows if my hunch is correct or am I doing something wrong? Please help...
PS.   I have tried downgrading the firmware but still the same connection problem.
Update [20110412 @ 11:19AM]:   I tried it at my workplace's DSL internet connection [ DSL modem/router -> 10/100 Switch -> RVS4000 ] The WAN was able to acquire DHCP IP but still has no internet on both modes - Gateway and or Router. Please help...

Hi Thomas,
Thank you for posting. You can clone the MAC address of the PC that works when connected directly to the modem. First plug the PC into one of the LAN ports and log into the web interface of the router from that PC. Go to Setup ->MAC Address Clone. Check the radio button to enable the feature and press "Clone My PCs MAC". This will fool the modem into thinking that the PC is connected instead of the router. Reboot the modem and router and you should get an IP address from the modem.
Please let us know if this works or not.

  • RVS4000 won't get WAN DHCP address

I just tried replacing a cheap domestic router/switch with an RVS4000 V2 on our work network.  This has a WAN connection to a cable modem for internet access via a dynamic IP address.
When I first connected the RVS4000 it got a WAN ip address via DHCP of 192.168.100.11.  This is the type of IP address we get when there is an upstream problem with our ISPs cable network, and sure enough we had no internet access.  The RVS4000 was set to use DHCP on the WAN interface.  So I logged a support call with our ISP but they said there were no problems at their end.
I then swapped the RVS4000 out for the original router.  This worked fine and got a WAN DHCP address of 77.xxx.yyy.zzz as it should.  Swapped back to the RVS4000 and back to the same problem of getting a 192.168... address.
So, I downloaded the latest firmware from Cisco, which was V2.0.3.2 and flashed the RVS4000.
I then tried again connecting the RVS4000 to the cable modem but this time it would not get any WAN DHCP address at all.  On the Status/Gateway page of the web interface it said that the WAN interface was down.  However, on the front panel there was a yellow light indicating a live connection on the internet port.
Any suggestions?  I am assuming there must be a fault, but thought I would check for advice before sending it back.

    Hi Nick,
Connect your computer directly to the modem, obtain the right IP address. Then put the RVS4000 back to the modem connection. Go to the set up, MAC ADDRESS CLONE, Enable this feature then use the option "clone my pc mac".
Then wait 1-2 minutes and refresh the WAN.
Basically this feature puts your computer's MAC on the router WAN interface. You can also use the previous router's WAN MAC if you know it and want to manually type it in.

  • Di-641+ Dlink wireless router not acquiring dhcp ips

I have this home user with a Di-641+ Dlink wireless router not acquiring dhcp ips. This is both with the Windows or Dell managing her wireless networks.  However, it works fine in our office connecting our Cisco AP541L access points.  Any ideas or suggestions other than physically looking at the device.

    Good afternoon,
As per your post, your home user is having issues with the D-Link product, not the Cisco products. This forum serves to provide technical and presales support for Cisco devices only.
I did take the time to locate the free support number for the D-Link products: 1-877-453-5465
In light of all of this, I am glad to hear your Cisco access points seem to be working well!
    Best of luck,

  • WRT350N does not acquire DHCP IP from Verizon DSL

The Verizon DSL service I use is an always on broadband connection. I am replacing a WRT54G with a WRT350N. The 54G would register an IP address while the 350N will not. Verizon techs tell me to clone the MAC address (which I do) but the router will not acquire an IP address.
If I plug a NIC directly into the DSL model I acquire an IP address and can connect to the internet.
    Anyone else experiencing similar problems?

what is the internet configuration type of your router right now? PPPoE? or DHCP?
PPPoE : is an internet configuration type that requires the username and password for authentication
DHCP : is a dynamic connection... it most of the times or sometimes requires a MAC clone for the router.
Now, my question is, when it's set to PPPoE, what exactly is the messae that it's getting... pls. message me whenever you have read this...

  • WRT54G2 V1 Fails to get WAN DHCP address

    Hi All,
I have a new WRT54G2 V1 that works fine, with the exception it will not pickup a DHCP address from the cable modem.  I have gone through the standard steps assuring the modems, cables and computers work on other setups and have no issues there.
The wireless and hub portions of the G2 work as usual. I flashed the firmware to the latest FW_WRT54G2V1_1.0.04.005_US and there is no change in operation, also the G2 responds correctly to a full reset to factory settings.
On the router's reboot the WAN light comes on briefly (assume self-test), but remains off after the router is fully booted.
Have I forgotten something obvious, or is this an out-of-the-box failure ?
    Cheers,

Once more step which you can try is, connect the Ethernet cable to the LAN Port 1 and the other end of that cable to the Internet Port of the Router and then check if the WAN light on your Router lids or not...
If it still doesn't lid, then i think it might be the problem with the Router itself, and you need to replace your Router.

    Thanks!

First off, makes sure the h-reap ap is connected to a trunk port. The native vlan on the trunk port should be the vlan the ap management is on. Now on the WLAN SSID, make sure local switching is enabled in the advanced tab. Go to the h-reap ap and there is a tab on the top that says either h-reap or FlexConnect. Enter the native vlan and hit apply. Go back to that page and click on vlan mapping. Now set your WLAN SSID to the vlan out at the remote site you want to put traffic on.
If you want traffic to come back to the wlc, then you do not need to enable local switching in the WLAN said advanced tab. Your traffic will be tunneled back to the wlc and placed on the interface you chooses in the WLAN general page.

    Kelly,
    You post is confusing.
    1. How was your AP able to dowload it's code if there was no connection to the WLC?
An AP firstly gets an IP via dhcp or statically configured and then it searches for a WLC. If the AP doesn't see any WLC, it can never come up. The status lights will keep flashing red and orange.
Since your clients have a layer 2 connection, then that means the AP is up and working with the connection to the WLC. Your problem is solely layer 3.
Check you local vlan mapping on the HREAP AP to ensure that the client vlan is correct. Also check your routing table by using 2 commands on your router: 1.Show ip protocols
                                                     2. Show ip route

  • WRT54GX WAN DHCP Problems?!

    Folks,
I seem to be having a new problem all of a sudden. The WAN DHCP client on my WRT54GX has almost completely stopped working. All WAN IP addresses are all zeroes, and hitting Renew in the configuration program doesn't help.
At one point I unplugged everything, brought up the cable modem, waited until it connected, and then brought up the router, and that worked. But then I had to reset the router due to a wireless configuration change, and after that the WAN DHCP client failed again, and I haven't been able to get it working since, even though I've restored the factory settings and power-cycled the device multiple times.
I tried replacing my router with a compatible substitute (WRT54GX2), and although that worked initially, it soon started suffering from the same issue.
The strange thing is that if I plug my PC directly into the cable modem, everything works just fine. I can use the ipconfig utility to release and renew repeatedly without any issues whatsoever. It's as if something Comcast has changed about their DHCP service confuses the router's DHCP client but not the one on my PC.
Can anyone tell me what's going on?

hi...try this out....from a hardwired PC , get into the router setup page....here there is a sub-tab called MAC address clone....hit that.....enable and "clone" or "clone your PC's MAC" ....save settings...once done ...do an ipconfig/all and verify that the "physical address" and the MAC address that u just cloned are the same....then go to the status page and do a DHCP release/renew and check if u get a WAN IP.

  • Brand new ipod Touch (8GB) does not work with DHCP

I have a brand new iPod Touch (8GB) that will not work using DHCP. No matter what I do (reset router, reset ipod) the DHCP still doesn't work. I can manually setup an IP/Gateway/netmask/etc. and it works but I really need the DHCP to work if at all possible. I'm using a Linksys WRT54G. I was able to use an old Linksys wireless router and the touch gets an IP, etc. with no problems but I can not get my Touch to work with the WRT54G. Any ideas?

In the DAQmx 9.4 Readme the following is stated:
Samples Not Acquired on NI 660x or NI 6624 Devices When using pulse width, semi-period or two-edge separation buffered measurements with the NI 660x and NI 6624 on counters 0 and 1, some samples may not be acquired under certain circumstances.
Could anyone elaborate on this? I am particularly interested in knowing under what circumstances this problem arises for the 6602 PCI devices.
How should I understand 'NI 660x and NI 6624 on counters 0 and 1'. Is it only a problem on counter 0 and 1 for the 660x or does this only apply for the 6624 devices.

  • Could not acquire a lock

    Hello,
I'm trying to activate and smartform but every time I'm getting this dump:
Error Text of the Database: "[ASE Error SQL12205]Could not acquire a lock

I've checked the LWM and HWM, and this paramteres have default value 2147483647.

I don't think the LWM an HWM values will be relevant to this situation.  It sounds like some other process is holding an incompatible lock on this row for a long time, and your client is choosing to time out rather than continue to block.
Use a query against master..syslocks (or wade through the output of sp_lock) to look for such a process.

Cisco Configuration Professional (Cisco CP) is installed on this device
and it provides the default username "cisco" for  one-time use. If you have
already used the username "cisco" to login to the router and your IOS image
supports the "one-time" user option, then this username has already expired.
You will not be able to login to the router with this username after you exit
    this session.
It is strongly suggested that you create a new username with a privilege level
of 15 using the following command.
    username <myuser> privilege 15 secret 0 <mypassword>
Replace <myuser> and <mypassword> with the username and password you

    Hi Jennifer,
I have gotten it resolved. Per your suggestion, I have turned on debug ip dhcp events and found that POOL EMPTY message. After little research, I found out that I have made a mistake in my excluded-address range.
    I have had it as
    ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.1.1 192.168.100.101
    It should have been
    ip dhcp excluded-address 192.168.1.1 192.168.1.101.
    It was a typo.
    Thank you for the suggestion.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 PXE not working because DHCP Option 43 is configured to AVAYA

    Hello!
We are having some issues with PXE and OS Deployment with some computers.
We tested computers DELL, PXE and DHCP works without any issues. But we tested some HP computers and we received the error  PXE-E77 Bad or missing discovery server list
We investigate that error and found that is related with the Option 43 Vendor Specific Info is enable on the DHCP Server, the solution that we tested and works as expected is create a new scope on the DHCP and without enable the Option 43.
That was a temporary solution for the issue, nevertheless we need to use PXE over our network, and we cannot remove the Option 43 on the DHCP configured for AVAYA, so we need a solution that can coexist with PXE and Option 43 on the DHCP.
We will apreciate any advice on this issue.
    Thank in advance.

The easiest way to deal with this problem is not to use DHCP scope options. Implement IP Helpers instead. It is straightforward to configure and is the only MS supported way anyway.

  • Windows could not start the DHCP Client service on Local Computer, Error 2

    Hi everyone,
I assign IP addresses via my router but today installed OpenVPN and it depends on the DHCP Client service. I checked in services and found it wasn't running. If I try starting it I get this message "Windows could not start the DHCP Client
service on Local Computer." "Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.".
There's plenty of info out there about this issue but nothing seems to fix it for me. I've tried the following as an administrator,
"sfc /scannow" - It reported and error which it fixed but after a restart the problem persists.
"NET  LOCALGROUP   administrators  "NT Authority\Local Service"   /add"
    "netsh winsock reset catalog"
I also checked that all dependencies of the DHCP Client service are working. I used "CMD /K
SC QC DHCP" to check the dependencies and compared them to an identical computer and they are. Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
Did you mean after the restart the sfc /scannow command still could find the corrupted files?
Have you check this these related registry entries permission for your account?
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dhcp
permission needed: Query value, Create value, Enumerate Subkeys, Notify, Read Control
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dhcp\Configurations
    permission needed: Full Control, Read

If the issue still cannot be resolved, I would like to suggest you use the recovery media to repair your computer.

  • XML-25004: Could not acquire a database connection named: gksconnection

    HI Gentlemen,
I am trying to build up an XSQL page with a query against an XMLTYPE table, to display the contents using a stylesheet. I have set up an IDE connection, the test was successful. Now I would like to start the page just to see if it works altogether. Now without a stylesheet, only that the page executes. And I am constantly running into
XML-25004: Could not acquire a database connection named: gksconnection
I entered the connection in the XSQLConfig file by manual editing--it did not help. Well, there is some stuff in the forum about setting some preferences for OC4J, but in my version of JDeveloper only Weblogic Server is available. So I am prevented from clearing the cause of the problem.
My JDeveloper is a Studio Edition Version 11.1.1.3.0, Build JDEVADF_11.1.1.3.PS2_GENERIC_100408.2356.5660.
Please help me if you can.
    Many thanks in advance,
