RVS4000 to WRV200 VPN over DSL

I have tried to configure this and get the same error message - no corresponding tunnel on remote side.  I have a wrv200 at home and a RVS4000 at work and am trying to configure a VPN tunnel from home to work.  Both are DSL connected.  Any help in getting this configured would be great, I have been working at this for a while to no avail.  Thansk in advance for any light/help you can shed on this problem.  FYI  I have setup the VPN identical on both routers using the same preshared key and such.  ???
Thanks - Ed

Ed,
Can you post your configurations from each router?  The configuration on each router has to be unique to the routers environment.  If you post the configs, we can just verify they are set up properly.  Change the public IP address if you are concerned about posting your IP here.  Thanks.

  • Configure RVS4000 Behind 2700-Gateway Qwest DSL Router VPN

I have my QWEST DSL Router 2700-Gateway using a static public IP address
This is setup to be the DHCP and assigned 192.168.0.2-50
I need some help how to connect my RVS4000 and utilize VPN so I can connect to my work network from home. The 2700-Gateway has some features like Transparent Bridging, etc, but not sure how to me this work. Can anyone point me to article even if it's configuring with another DSL Router.
Here is how I tried with my medium knowledge of networking...
I have configured the RVS4000 as:
    LAN Static IP
    192.168.0.115
    Configured as DHCP Relay
the 2700-Gateway router saw the device so:
Configured firewall on 2700-Gateway for PORT FORWARDING:
TCP port 1723 for PPTP tunnel maintenance traffic
UDP port 47 Generic Routing Encapsulation (GRE)
UDP port 500 for Internet Key Exchange (IKE) traffic
UDP port 1701 for L2TP traffic
    --> 192.168.0.115
    This did not work.

    gv,
Thanks for your help. I discovered the EasyVPN works quite differently then I expected a IPSec to work. Thanks for the suggestions. I documented my finding and procedure below.
The answer was to use the transparent bridging setting on my DSL modem model 2Wire GATEWAYHG-2700 and and turn off Search PCV,  then setup the PPPoE on the RVS4000 VPN router to accept and authenticate my public IP address.
Once I had the modem and router configured, I then had my RVS4000 VPN router ready to test VPN client. The documentation is vague. But after doing some research on here and having some difficulty:
    My Finding:
I already had latest Firmware 1.109 from purchase
On the client, I discovered from reading that the EasyVPN uses 443. Well I have this forwarding to a exchange server to utilize RPC/HTTPS with outlook. This turns out that it was fixed with the lastest firmware
The new firmware allows this, as they fixed the vpn listening port override to port 60443..
I port forwarded this to my router gateway 192.168.1.1
In order to use this port, you must have the lastest client from the downloads at RVS4000 version. 1.10 which adds a drop box Auto/443/60433. I found auto and 60443 to work with my configuration.
This configuration let me connect successfully.
If you read the readme that's included with the EasyVPN client download, you have to export the client cert under VPN, and copy the file *.pem to the root folder of the vpn client.exe stated in readme to get rid of the security popup. This worked for me.
So everything seems to be connecting.. But know get "The remote gateway is not responding" popup.  I tried the suggested MTU setting with no luck.
After establishing a network share under map drive, this seems to have stop responding as well once this popup occurs.
Things like this should just not be so hard..
So I found this post in regards to my problem and hoping to here if anyone else has found a solution or work around here. Good night, some things are just not worth staying up late for,

  • WYSE terminal over DSL IPSEC IOS VPN

I am having a problem establishing a connection over my WAN via a WYSE terminal to a Citrix server. We have PC's that can connect using the ICA client without any problems but the Wyse terminals fail and don't even display an image on the screen.
I have experienced problems with the 877 IPSEC VPN's over DSL before and had issues relating to MTU from PC's but this is the first occurance where the PC's are working but the Wyse terminals fail.
    Has anyone experienced this before?
    Thank you!

This setup applies to a specific case where the router, without enabling split tunneling, and Mobile users (Cisco VPN Client) can access the Internet via the central site router. In order to achieve this, configure the policy map in the router to point all the VPN traffic (Cisco VPN Client) to a loopback interface. This allows the Internet traffic to be port address translated (PATed) to the outside world.

  • Cisco VPN over a tethered Personal Hotspot on IP4(Airtel)

    Hello everyone
I am having problems connecting to our company Cisco VPN over a tethered or Personal Hotspot connection on my iPhone 4 (Airtel).
When the Hotspot is on, I am able to use the CISCO AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client to connect to the server, However, when I use the Remote Desktop Connection.
    this is the error:
The Mac cannot connect to the Windows-based computer.
    This problem can occur if:
    • The Windows-based computer is not set up to accept remote connections.
    • The Windows-based computer is not turned on.
    • The Mac, or the Windows-based computer is experiencing network problems.
Try connecting to the Windows-based computer again, or contact your administrator.
Has anyone else had these kinds of problems? I have no idea what to try, I am not a VPN/network expert.
If i use an Andriod device to tether the internet connection, I am able to connect to the Cisco server and connect to my work server using the Remote desktop. So i am wondering if this is to do with the way Iphone share internet.
    Any help is really appreciated.

I have noted that all vpn or remote desktop solutions will not work over personal hotspot(ph) seems like the iPhone is blocking some ports. First I thought it was the lack of service announces over the network but it seems even with a direct ip connect you can't share vpn connections.
This limits apps like Air display from working over an iPhone and some other services like standard vpn are out of the question as well. There must be a .plist file somewhere in the iPhone 4 version of the 4.3.2 ios that blocks certain ports when on ph. Would be nice to have a look, but I have no expertise in this.
But  +1 Confirm that vpn are locked.

  • Tcp mss adjust calculation for GRE tunnel over DSL line

    hi guys,
need your advice on this one, as i search on cisco.com and netpro but unable to find the exact info that i required.
First, can anyone confirm the following calculation to find out MSS size.
Mss size = MTU size - encapsulation size - tcp header size
    So for normal case;
    MSS = 1500 - 48 (48 is the tcp/ip header)
    so MSS = 1452
    Thus in my case GRE tunnel over DSL connection;
    MSS = 1492 - 24 - 48 (24 is the GRE encap; 48 is the tcp/ip header)
    MSS = 1420
    is this correct?
Secondly, where should the ip tcp mss-adjust to be implemented. Is it at the Dialer(DSL) interface or at Tunnel interface?

I don't use the math (it doesn't work for me probably b/c I miss something). Here's how I do it-

  • VPN over Internet Issues

I have a Mac OS X Server with VPN (L2TP and PTP) enabled. I am able to connect to the VPN service from my iMac (I also tried another computer) from within my LAN, but VPN over LAN isn't very useful, of course.
The problem is, I cannot connect to the VPN by typing in my public IP (with the rest of the settings the same) instead of the private IP. I've enabled port forwarding for UDP 1701, 4500, and 500, and TCP 1723. I also tried making my Mac OS X Server machine (a Mac Mini) a DMZ host, and that didn't work. I turned my router's firewall off, too.
So if I can connect to my VPN locally but not over the Internet even though I've enabled a DMZ host, which shouldn't fail, some setting must be wrong somewhere. Does anyone know what it could be?
By the way, the Mini is on WiFi for now (we recently got it and haven't set up a place for it yet).

Jeff: Sorry to sound inexperienced, but I can't find a VPN or network related log in Console. Which one is it? Anyway, I doubt that it's the connection settings but something with my router. I know all routers are different, but I was wondering if there was some generic problem with VPN and routers. Strangely enough, my other services work on the server (HTTP, AFP, SSH, VNC) by port forwarding. Again, DMZ hosting did NOT solve the problem, so I'm guessing that there's more to do if you want VPN???
Basically (to anyone), my VPN works fine over the network, so my settings must be correct, and I am almost sure that when I connect over the internet, the request does not even touch my server.
As for the other reply: I've forwarded the same ports and made my server's IP static like in the thread. The only difference is that DD-WRT firmware. Was that the final solution?
P.S. My server is temporarily down (due to some nasty irrepairable permissions issues) as I reinstall Mac OS X, so I can't really test anything on the server until it's up.

  • Has anyone been able to get VPN over 3G working

I am just wondering, if anyone has VPN over 3G working with iPad. It works a treat with the iphone4, just not iPad. All settings are the same for both devices, however iPad says connecting, authenticating, and disconnecting. Credentials have been checked numerous times, as have all other fields. iPad just doesn't want to play the game.

    Works "fine" here:
    - iPad (1) 3G
    - 3G On
    - WiFi Off
    - Vodafone Portugal
    - PPTP VPN
    - No cable to neither PC nor charger
    - Always connects 1st try
    - I turn VPN on, lock the screen, and if I unlock in under 15s it will be still ON; if after 15s, then it will have dropped
    - If, on the other hand, I have the charger connected, I have tested with more than 2 mins after locking it and it's still on.
As for your problem connecting, try using the same card on your iPad as you use on your phone to test, seeing that the settings are all the same and it works fine on iPhone and not on iPad.

  • DMM - DMP connectivity over DSL network

    Dear All,
I would like to know whether it is possible to connect DMM - DMP over DSL Network.
    -     I have DMM with private IP 192.168.1.100 have static net public IP 58.177.200.xx
    -     I have DMP with private IP 192.168.xx.xx connect under ADSL network with Dynamic IP address.
I check NAT enable on DMPDM but It ask me to enter ADSL public IP. When DSL line down and reconnect IP is change.
    What Should I do?
    Thank you very much
    Sukitti

    Hi Sukitti,
I'm afraid this will never work. As you already saw, you can use the DMP with NAT, but the public IP needs to be fixed.
Your best approach would be to contact your ADSL service provider and request a fixed IP for that connection. Most of providers give this option for a small extra amount
    Regards

  • VPN over a DSL connection?

I have the VPN client s/w installed on my laptop. I can connect from home and any public place with internet access. But, with one particular DSL connection at one of our remote stores, I can not. I can log into the main router and "see" the vpn trying to work, however it is always at "negotiating" status. The dsl connection is a pppoe from what I understand. Is it possible to alter my configurations on either router to allow vpn access? Thanks. Probably a green question :) Also, all of our other sites can vpn just fine, however they have cable internet, not dsl.

What is yours MTU settings ???
Try run setMTU utility (programms-Cisco VPN Client) and lower MTU for your LAN connection to 1200)

  • WRV200 VPN issues

I'm having a great deal of difficulty with 2 WRV200's maintaining the VPN for more than a couple days.  The 2 routers will sync, the VPN will be up for awhile and then drop for no apparent reason with no attempt ever to reestablish.  Until one of the routers is restarted (sometimes both) the VPN is dead.  During this time the IP addresses, though dynamic, do not change.  Both routers are set to maintain a persistent connection to their respective ISP, neither router ever sees a drop in the actual connection but the VPNs drop.  Even a constant ping between locations doesn't maintain the connection.  I'm a bit frustrated that the .39 firmware (latest and only since June 2008) hasn't been rev'd to fix whatever issue is causing this.  Am I the ONLY person having this issue with WRV200s?  I can attempt to grab logs from them if I get some response back.  I don't suspect a major configuration issue since the VPNs stay up for a while, just not long term.  This is the first time working with Cisco/Linksys Small Biz Routers and unless somebody can help figure this out I may end up going back to the other brands I've had no issues with and sell these to some poor, unsuspecting soul on e-bay.  I've worked with several other brands that NEVER drop the VPN unless the ISP connection is also having issues and even then 90% of the time they reestablish automatically and with no intervention once the connection is back up.

    Hello,
    We have a partner in Norway with alot of issues related to WRV200;
    1) Resets it self to factory default
    2) The Wireless disconnects now and then
    3) Slow and unstable access over the WLAN (ping takes more than a second)
Do we have a new firmware or any suggestions as what can be wrong here?
Standard setup so far - with the issues above, so no advanced features being configured yet.

  • Quantum Gateway Firmware Updates Kill VPN over WiFi

Be aware, there is a known issue where newer versions of the Quantum Gateway firmware that are automatically pusehd out to these devices prevent VPN connections from being established from devices connected via WiFi. At the same time, there is no issue with wired devices establishing VPN connections. Verizon has access to an internal document on the subject that is not available to us consumers. I first noticed the problem a couple of months ago and called support. After a LONG time waiting while the tech researched the problem and then started emailing with higher level support technicians, I was finally told that it was a known issue and they would have to roll-back the firmware to a known working version. They said that would take up to 24 hours to complete but it was all working again in only 4 hours or so. Unfortunately, these devices are set to automatically look for, download and install new firmware. My gateway did that early last week and I was once again unable to establish VPN connections from devices connected to via WiFi. And again VPN from wired devices worked just fine. It took another 90 minutes on the phone to convince the tech it was a real problem, that he should look at the notes from a month before and then waiting while he emailed with others. In the end they finally rolled-back the firmware and it's all working again. Trouble is, I don't think they can stop the automatic updates from happening, so this isn't going to be the end of my troubles. Unless, of course, they actually FIX THE FIRMWARE BEFORE THEY PUSH IT OUT TO THEIR CUSTOMERS!!! If you wire in another wireless AP (with a different SSID) and connect to it instead, the VPN connections of WiFi work just fine. So it's clear that the problem is very specific to the Quantum Gateway's handling of WiFi connections and what it does/doensn't allow those connected devices to do. If you use the same SSID on the second AP the VPN connections still fail. At least they did for me.

    deanjackson88 wrote:
Alas the problems return. I've been kicked off multiple times today.
Again, same solution is to run the 'troubleshooting' in the network properties and each time it gives the same message about the default gateway not being available (and that it's been fixed).
Internet access returns for a little while before dropping out again.
I'm starting to think that certain websites, VPN's and various other things that I access that employ Javascript is what is knocking this out.
The VPN I have been using for this particular customer needs Javascript.
A website that I was checking out earlier also uses Javascript.
Could this be the common denominator?
Again why would this be a problem now though when I have had no problems like this in the past and why only with the BT HomeHub. Javascript is used all over the place so I struggle to understand why I have not had these problems before.
Perhaps the latest HomeHub Firmware has an issue with Javascript. I don't know. Clutching at straws...
Working from the office this morning (rather than at home) and I have no problems at all. Frustrating.
Do you use the same pc at work?
This might be a bright red herring, so don't let it distract you to much.
There's been some problems with Java lately. I have a favourite website which uses Java and it was giving problems.
    Check your Java updates.
Goto Control Panel and in the search area type in Java. This will take you to the Java control panel, and you can check your settings and updates. Perhaps you should adjust the settings to notify monthly (after retrieving any existing updates).
Perhaps finding the Java updates is not as simple in Windows 8.1. Is there a Control Panel equivalent in Windows 8.1?
This will eliminate one more variable for your existing problems.

  • Balancing load over DSL cards

I need help.I'm trying to configure one FastEthernet with 5 Vlans, and need to do traffic balancing over two Dsl cards. How can I do it?

  • LOW Priority WRV200 VPN Question

    Hi,
I think from what I've read that the answer is NO, but.....
Can the WRV200 router accept VPN Connections from 3rd party software that would act "Like" the QuickConnect software from Linksys?
I don't want passthrough, or router to router at this time.
I have a total of 5 people (myself included) that would VPN.
I'd like to browse the network neighborhood, but the quickconnect doesn't do NetBios. (Have to use \\192.168.x.x instead of \\ComputerName to map a drive)
Again, I think it's a no, but does  anyone have experience with this?
    Dumb, but thought I'd ask...
    Thanks,
    Joe

            HI...
As per my knowledge linksys QuickVPN does not support Netbios and it requires the ip address to be specified.
I think that linksys router should accept connections from software that are like QuickVPN....
Else what you can do is use the PPTP server of the router and use the windows VPN client to connect.
