RW2 preview in finder and "Open file" dialog

Hello,
I run into a curiosity with RW2 file format (from LX3 and FZ38). In Finder, RW2 preview is not displayed and only default icon (black icon with text exec in corner). The same RW2 files does have correct preview, when I browse them in "Open file" dialog window (for example Safari > File > Open File...).
How it is possible the Finder and Open dialog do have different settings? Is it possible to copy these settings?
Thank You

  • Freeze during column view in finder and open file box?

    Whenever I open a file and the open file dialog box is in column view it freezes when I click on the file and the view shifts to reveal the icon and info. It happens a lot in finder too, but not as often. It usually doesn't start happening for a few minutes after I reboot.
    I'm pretty sure quicktime is associated with that icon/image preview. I just formatted my hard drive hoping that would help but it doesn't. I have to force quit applications alot if I forget to get out of column view...someone please help!
    I don't remember this happening before I installed macromedia studio 8, but I'm not sure. I have to use those programs.

  • Previews not correct in open file dialog

    Hello all,
    I am on CS4 Photoshop. The previews of files in the File>Open dialog do not update or show the correct picture. Files with various layers often only show one layer instead of the whole picture, or layers are shifted wrongly over one another. Where are those previews kept and how can I force Photoshop to update them correctly? IMHO it has nothing to do with bridge, I tried purging the cache etc, but all that does not help. This seems purely a Photoshop or Mac thing, at least I think so. Any help greatly appreciated.
    Cheers, Bob.

    Hi, thanks for your reply.
    When opening the folder containing the images in the finder they look perfectly OK both in list view and in icon view. It is just in the open file menu of photoshop.
    Cheers, Bob.

  • How do I get my columns in finder and open/save dialog boxes to stay at the widths I set?

    The name column is very very wide when I try to open a file.. so I can't sort by the other columns without dragging over the bar at the bottom of the screen.  THis is so so frustrating.  I resize but it doesn't stick to the next session.
    It is almost as frustrating as the thumbnails being too small in the open dialog box so that I can't see the file I want to open.
    Apple invented the finder.  Why is it so inferior to windows explorer?

  • Find and open files in subfolders

    Hi
    Simple request I know but I can't manage to find how to make fileArray = targetFolder.getFiles("*.indd"); to access *.indd files inside sub folders and perhaps in sub sub folders..
    Can anyone share how to do this?
    Thanks in advance, Ken

    Here is an example -- this script gets all indesign documents from the selected folder including its subfolders and puts all them into a book.
    var myFolder = Folder.selectDialog( "Select a folder with InDesign files" );
    if ( myFolder != null ) {
         var myFiles = [];
         GetSubFolders(myFolder);
         if ( myFiles.length > 0 ) {
              var myBookFileName = myFolder + "/"+ myFolder.name + ".indb";
              myBookFile = new File( myBookFileName );
              if ( myBookFile.exists ) {
                   if ( app.books.item(myFolder.displayName + ".indb") == null ) {
                        myBook = app.open( myBookFile );
              else {
                    myBook = app.books.add( myBookFile );
                    myBook.automaticPagination = false;
                    for ( i=0; i < myFiles.length; i++ ) {
                        myBook.bookContents.add( myFiles[i] );
                    myBook.save();
    //=================================== FUNCTIONS =========================================
    function GetSubFolders(theFolder) {
         var myFileList = theFolder.getFiles();
         for (var i = 0; i < myFileList.length; i++) {
              var myFile = myFileList[i];
              if (myFile instanceof Folder){
                   GetSubFolders(myFile);
              else if (myFile instanceof File && myFile.name.match(/\.indd$/i)) {
                   myFiles.push(myFile);
    Hope this helps.

  • "Save As" and "Open" file dialog windows very slow to appear...

    I have a home network with 4 PCs, three using XP/3 and 1 using Win7.  Until recently, I had the three XP boxes in one workgroup (not homegroup) and the Win7 box in a different workgroup.  Everything was running fine.  I got anal and decided
    to rename some of the boxes and put them all in one workgroup, the one that the Win7 box is in.
    Immediately after I did all that, I noticed that every time I did a "save as" file function on the Win7 box, no matter the application, the dialog window took much longer to appear - sometimes almost 10 seconds.  This is not the case on the XP
    boxes.
    Following a suggestion I got on the Microsoft Answers Forum, I removed all the shares on my network and even removed the 3 XP boxes from the network, and I turned off Network Discovery.  The problem persisted.  Only when I disabled my LAN
    connection did the dialog windows appear instantly, as they had done before.  I have now restored the original configuration, but the "save as" dialog window continues to come up very slowly on the Win7 box.
    Any thoughts, clues or suggestions as to how to fix this non-critical but very irritating problem would be greatly appreciated...

    I've hit a similar problem since (or at least exaserbated since) changing to a new ISP service (BT Total Broadband) which included a wifi router upgrade.  LAN has a stable Win XP SP3 fully updated, a W7 also fully updated (I love Office) and a previously
    stable Zyxel router.  Then this occasional problem:  File -> Save As from any application stops dead for up to a few minutes, no CPU burn so waiting on interupt or external event.  Patience, then it works.
    So I'm guessing a confused IP table somewhere.  I'm off to play with using fixed IP addresses and lease expiries in the LAN part of the new router's config to see if that makes it easier for XP to handle closed connections.
    And isn't there a "not persistent" option somewhere ...
    But I don't networked drives, I use shortcuts with network addresses.
    More anon after some exploration.

  • Why can't I preview indd files within InDesign's open file dialog box?

    Hello all,
    It is bad enough that Adobe doesn't add a plugin to preview any Adobe source file within Windows Explorer (well, except for PDF but I think Microsoft did that).
    But I find it ridiculous that I cannot preview .indd source files inside InDesign's Open File dialog box. It just states, "No preview available". I am sure this failure is tied into what Windows can preview... still, not a good excuse!
    This is also the same problem in both Illustrator and Photoshop.... neither Adobe program can preview their own file format!
    WHY?  OR How can I correct this?
    [UPDATE: SageThumbs | SourceForge.net seems to partially work on many Photoshop files (works reasonably well as long as I limit the file size to 70mb), it doesn't seem to work on Illustrator files (despite the claim), and it doesn't work on InDesign.]
    Still, the question remains, why isn't Adobe taking responsibility for this?

    I think you all misunderstood.
    I am referring to opening files *within* the Adobe software. Example: Inside InDesign, I click File > Open... I see a list of my .indd files and to the right is a window with the words, "Select a file to preview."  If I select an .indd file, I think it is reasonable to assume that I will see a preview of the .indd file... but NO, I just see the message, "No preview available."
    In my opinion, this is a failing of Adobe!
    > Use bridge
    Why would I want to open a separate program just to see thumbnails? Sure Bridge has its uses when I want to look at a lot of different images but I am only talking about quickly seeing a thumbnail before I open a single file within either InDesign, Photoshop, or Illustrator.
    Q. If Bridge can render thumbnails, why on Earth would Adobe not place the preview code into the open file dialog of each program?

  • Open File dialog in 1.1.0.21

    This is an old issue which I thought was supposed to be resolved in 1.1, but whenever you go to the open file dialog, it still always starts in the installation directory. It does not remember the last directory used and I cannot find anything in the global preferences that enables you to specify a preferred default location. There is a feature request that is marked as complete in 1.1 which kind-of covers this issue but relating to saving files, but the behaviour of both the save file and open file dialog is the same as it was.
    Using build MAIN-21.41 on windows xp.

    I too was disappointed that this promised enhancement was left out of version 1.1. However, I found a workaround that helps minimize the problem.
    If you have a Windows Explorer window open to the folder where your SQL file resides, you can drag-and-drop the file into SQL Developer to open it. The trick is that you must drag your cursor to the tab bar area of the SQL Developer window to get the file to open in a new tab. Dragging it to the editor section of the SQL Developer window will not open the file.

  • OS open file dialog vs my dialog

    hi,
    I have problem redirecting main page from dialog. On main page, there is a report link. If this link pressing, an dialog is shown up and user selecting some values to see at pdf report. After selecting value, pressing "get report" button at the dialog and I am producing report (i-report) and open file dialog of operating system' is shown. This is usual things, but I need the back to main page after "get report" button action, but OS open dialog is preventing to return main page. If I comment to code of producing report, after pressing "get report" button (this time, OS open dialog is not shown), I return main page easily.
    The interesting point is that, after pressing "get report" button, If i again press to "get report" button, I return main page. But I need this at one click, not 2 clicks.
    Help is needing...

    Hi,
    appears to me that the OS dialog removes the focus from the application. So the work around would be to launch the dialog, have the user selecting the report parameters, close the dialog and then download the PDF file

  • How to disable Open File dialog in Preview

    After I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite, Preview app started popping up the Open File dialog box every time I launch it.  It used to just launch and do nothing.
    Is there a way to prevent Preview in Yosemite to present the Open File dialog box to the user?  I vaguely recall a "defaults write" kind of command that would disable this feature.
    The use case this behavior is breaking is as follows:
    1. Want to take a screenshot and save it to a file.
    2. Press Cmd-Ctrl-Shift-4 to snap a screenshot and save it on the clipboard.
    3. Cmd-Space to bring up Spotlight, type Preview and launch Preview
    4. Cmd-N to instruct Preview to paste the contents of the clipboard to a new file.
    With Yosemite, step-4 above breaks, since I have to hit Esc first to clear the dialog box.

    Try this it will give the full directory structure.

  • "Preview this File" Does Nothing + Blinding GTK+ open file dialogs...

    ...I have two problems in KDEMod4...did anyone have these problems and how do you fix them?
    Right clicking a file and clicking "Preview this File" does nothing...including folder views, Konqueror, and Dolphin.
    GTK+ open file dialogs alternate between the normal background for my text box and blindingly white background.

    Hi,
    I also have the same problem, but with my JNI and C++ expertise, I was able to isolate the problem.
    My platform:
    - Microsoft Windows XP, Family Edition (French), Version 2002, Service Pack 3
    - JRE 1.6.0_21
    In the source of the JDK6 (Src/windows/classes/sun/awt/windows/WDesktopPeer.java), the Desktop.open(file) calls the native method
    ShellExecute(*uri.toString()*, "open")
    For example, if you try to open "c:\helloworld.pdf",
    uri.toString() = "*file:/c:/helloworld.pdf*"if I call ShellExecute("C:\\helloworld.pdf", "open"), it works
    but if I call ShellExecute(" file:/c:/helloworld.pdf", "open"), it doesn't work on my platform.
    In both case, the ShellExecuteW or ShellExecuteA function of the Windows API return the integer 42 (> 32), saying that the functions succeeded. If the file object is not correct, the function should return a value <= 32.
    => The bug is not due to Java implementation, but to a bug in the Windows API.
    Other remark:
    I also tried the "ShellExec_RunDLL" entry point of the Shell32.dll library using RunDll32 utility. Both commands below are running correctly:
    rundll32 SHELL32.DLL,ShellExec_RunDLL "C:\hello.pdf"
    rundll32 SHELL32.DLL,ShellExec_RunDLL "file:/C:/hello.pdf"My conclusion:
    1) A workaround could be implemented in the JRE: use the file path without the "file:/" protocol prefix.
    2) This bug seems to be present only one some version of Windows XP (to confirm).

    I am trying to open CR2 files from a Cannon EOS 1DX camera in Photoshop CS6 and I have already updated the Camera Raw Plug in but Photoshop is still giving me the cannot open files dialog box? Help?

    Canon 1DX support was added to ACR in version 6.7, 7.1.  An updated CS6 should be at level ACR 8.6.  If your ACR is not at level 8.6 try using CS6 menu Help>Updates.  If that does not install ACR 8.6 try downloading the ACR and DNG 8.6 converter and see if ACR 8.6 will install into your CS6.

  • What does the open file dialog do 'under the hood' and is there a way to simulate it

    What does the open file dialog do 'under the hood' and is there a way to simulate it?
    I have a bug in my code (that I've posted about before, here) which I can't fix at the moment, but I do have a workaround.
    Briefly, the bug:
    I call a dll from a function node, to initialise and run a spectrometer. If I start up the PC, LabVIEW and run my vi the code runs without complaint, the first call to the dll to initialise the spectrometer doesn;t return an error but the spectrometer is not detected either.
    I've tried various solutions, see the link above, and none work
    The workaround:
    If, at any time before running the code containing the function node I open an 'open file' dialog window, select the dll and click ok/hit enter then everything is fine. When I run the main code the spectrometer is detected.
    I use an express vi to open the file dialog, I specify the start path and file name as constant inputs and just click ok/hit return when the dialog pops up. I don't do anything with the dialog outputs. In fact the vi that contains the open file dialog can be run before the project containing the bug is even open.
    I have to do this everytime I turn the PC on.
    So, either
    1) Can somewone suggest a fix for the original bug?
    2) What is the easiest way to simulate the enter keypress when the open file dialog pops up
    or
    3) Can someone tell me what the open file dialog does under the hood that somehow causes the dll to work and can it be simulated in straight LabVIEW
    I suspect that the dll itself is dodgy ( I have in the past talked to the supplier but not got very far, and I will try again but I would like a quick, temporary solution too). I'm guessing that the file dialog is making some kind of check on the file, and possibly registering its presence with the OS (winXP). I tried using the file/folder exists vi to see if checking the file like that worked but no luck.
    Any help greatly appreciated.
    Dave

    Hi David
    I am very conscious about thread hijacking but this sounded like my issue so I hope you dont mind me asking about your issue. I am hoping that you have a spectrometer from the same vendor as me and its not just me seeing an Error 1097 issue. My spectrometer is from a company called Stellarnet.
    So far I have unable to get it to work with other VIs. There is one condition where I can get it to work but its no good for me.
    Case 1
    I open the VI in a fresh labview environment with no other VIs in memory. The code runs with no issue.
    Case 2
    Labview is not opened. I double click the spectrometer VI in windows explorer.  The VI opens but it fails to run resulting in Error 1097. Personally, I dont see the difference between this and Case 1 above and yet it fails.
    Case 3
    If I already have other VI's in memory and try to load the spectrometer VI and run it fails with Error 1097. This case is the one that most important to me. I have a test executive that will load test VIs dynamically and I can't get this to work. Same problem Error 1097.
    I wanted to share what I have seen with you and to let you know that maybe somebody else has the same issue. I am convinced its the DLL but the vendor dis-agreed saying it was LabVIEW. I couldn't convince him otherwise.
    Thanks in advance
    David
