RX9800PRO-TD128 Artifacting

Hi, I just bought my RX9800PRO-TD128, installed it and ran 3dmark03. The first tests ran fine but Nature bought on extreme artifacting. I mean you cant see anything familiar just random colored pixels all across the screen. I then quit 3dmark and windows was also displaying in a very distorted way.  After a restart it was ok again (not nature)
I formatted and reinstalled my system but the problem still exists.
I dont overclock so it cant be that.
Any help will be apreciated

Hi
My first Post
I have just bought my Msi RX9800PRO-TD128.
Not sure I have done the right thing, have always used the well tested Nvidia card.
I was talked into buying one.
Thought I would do a complete install to eliminate any reg errors, to my amazement all went well without any known issues.
Used the drivers supplied with the card.
Don't seem to be any heat problems so far
Still a bit unsure yet, lack of confidence in ATS cards.

  • Rx9800pro-td128 vs rx9800pro-td128sp

    I ordered a "rx9800pro-td128" from newegg. what arrived is a "rx9800pro-td128sp".
The "sp" version is listed as "new" on msi's site, but it looks to have a smaller heatsink/fan. why is this the "new" version? is the sp version "newer and better for the end user" or "newer and better for msi to sell" (ie. cheaper to make)?
Normally I would specifically want a "new" model, but the heat sink on the "old" version looks like it would do a better job. I did read in one post that the fan on the "old" model was noisy. Is the fan on the "new" model less noisy? Has anyone done any temp comparisons to know if one is better than the other?
Also, can anyone please summarize what the r350 and r360 core differences are? Why does everyone want the r360?
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

As far as I know, Ati`s card don`t come with any games at all.
Some other companies include some games but not too many.
MSI is the company that give you the most games.
If all the 14 in 1 games are all full versions, it is an excellent bundle of games.

  • New cooler for RX9800Pro-TD128

Hi there, I've got a RX9800Pro-TD128, it's a great card but the cooler is quite noisy, so I'm considering buying a new VGA cooler, and since the card has a differente PCB I'm wondering which coolers will fit?
    VGA Silencer Rev. 3
VGA Silencer 1 (for Radeon 9800 Pro)
VGA Silencer 3 (for 9800 Pro with 256MB and XT)
    Coolermaster CoolViva
    Aerocool VM-101
    Thermaltake GIANT II
    [/list]
    Thanks

i have a rx9800 pro and a vga silencer rev3 mounted on it. its pretty simple to do and no effort really. you take the 2 pin connector off the vga silencer. take a small needle or knife point and use tha to open the claps on the side of the white connector to remove the wires and do the same with the connector attached to the stock cooling fan, and just swipe connectors and put the stock one on the vga silencer and connect it to the board. and boom it will work, just remember where the origonal wires go on the stock connector i belive the red goes towards the inside of the card and black towards the outside i think, double check tho. I did it with no problem and in less then 5 min.

  • Big MSI RX9800Pro-TD128 problem

    Hi everyone!
I am a proud owner of a Radeon 9800Pro (MSI RX9800Pro-TD128) and I've got an issue that looks very much (or exactly) like this:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v302/IvanV/shot0000.jpg
If you failed do recognize it, this is a screenshot from 3DMark03 GT4. It happens with all driver versions I tried (from MSI and from ATI). It used to happen only in GT4, so I wasn't to concerned, but now it also happens in HL2 when AA and AF are turned on (which is also strange, because I didn't use 3D Mark with AA and AF). The card is not overheating and works fine in other situations. My system:
    CPU: AMD Athlon64 3000+
MB: MSI K8T Neo (VIA K8T800 chipset)
RAM: 512MB DDR 400MHz Kingston ValueRAM etc...
    Windows 2000 Professional with SP4, DX 9.0c

Today, after months of having this issue, I solved the problem. Still, I don't understand why this worked, so please someone explain it to me. I found two solutions:
    1) Change AGP aperture size to 256MB. Since I have only 512MB of RAM, things got a bit less smooth, so I was thinking, since things did work from time to time, and guided partly by memory and partly by instinct I
    2) returned AGP aperture size to 128MB, and removed desktop wallpaper, screensaver, custom Windows appereance in Display Properties and it also worked.
I retested all variations several times to make sure, and right now I have little doubt that this is a permanent solution. I only don't know why, so if anyone could tell me, I'd really appreciate it.

  • RX9800PRO-TD128SP and RX9800PRO-TD128

    RX9800PRO-TD128SP vs  RX9800PRO-TD128
    so what is different.
i can see new PCboard, new fan.
    same mem?
    same core (the 360)?
the websites don't say anything about what was changed
    any help will be great

I have the original rx9800pro and it is recognized as the 9800xt with ati drivers, and shows an r360 core everywhere i look. Wiith its awesome cooling, i can get it to 445core, and 385memory stable. It is as good as the Artic cooling solution easily.  I never run it at that though, because im not big on overclocking. Anyways I do set it at a more conservative 410core and 360memory and i score 6800 in 3dmark 2003 and 47,000 in Auquamark. I use the ATI drivers v4.8, not the msi drivers. I am sure glad i got an original before they switched to the newer design. Does the newer design use the same cooling, for your sake i hope so. For $189 retail, it was a steal. I love it.

  • RX9800PRO-TD128 and TV-Out cable

    Hi,
I've bought this card but OEM version and now I'm in trouble because of lack of TV-Out cable. Could someone send me a schema of this cable so I'm able to make one myself ?
    Best regards
    Marek

    Hi,
Thanks for reply, but the card actually has pretty rare 9-pin socket, not a regulkar 4-pin S-Video. But somebody mailed me that it's possible to put a regular S-Video plug into that 9-pin socket. So you may be right I'm still waiting for delivery, but when I finally have the card, I'll check this idea and post the result.
    Regards
    Marek

  • Waking up K8T-Neo

I'm having problems with waking up from stand-by mode. It first occured about a week ago. As it just went away, I didn't pay attention to it, but it reoccured today and after I manually reset my PC, I got a message that BIOS is corrupt and I had to set it manually. Does anyone know what's going on? Is there a BIOS or Windows (I suppose power-management related) option I should pay attention to?
    My PC:
    A64 3000+ NewCastle
    MSI K8T Neo-FSR
    1024MB 400MHz Kingston Value Ram (3-3-3-8)
    MSI RX9800Pro-TD128
    CHIEFTEC DX-01WDU & CHIEFTEC 360W PSU
    Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 160GB
    MSI DR8-A
    Windows 2000 Professional SP4.

I'm thinking about the battery, but I wasn't sure it could cause the wake-up problem. Also, only some of the BIOS settings were messed, others like date/time were OK, which I found strange. Also, I did add 512MB of RAM just days ago, but it was after the first occurence of the problem (no BIOS problems that time, though). I guess I'll cange the baterry as it's the easiest thing to do...
EDIT: I checked the baterry. BIOS says 3.5V, my voltmeter says 3.15, so I don't think it's the battery. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but it should be 3V, right?)

  • MEGA 180 and Radeon 9800 Pro/XT

Haven't posted in a while, just wanted to spread a little good. Having a MEGA 180 is a little limiting with power supply and space issues etc but i've got a cracking setup working here :-)
I bought the MSI RX9800PRO TD128, despite a 300watt power supply warning for the card it works perfectly in the MEGA, but the good news doesn't stop there, the graphics chip is not a standard 9800PRO R350 core, for some reason it has the R360 core from the 9800XT, overclocking is a breeze with the ATI Tool. It comes default with a 378 core - 338 mem setting, I have saved a profile in ATI Tool with the XT settings of 412 core - 365 mem and they work a treat in UT, Q3, Tomb AOD and i've even stressed the card in 3DMark05 for quite some time and it just works, I dare say I could push it even higher but I'm happy getting XT performance for PRO money :-)
Overclocker New Zealand have even managed to get it up to an insane 479 core - 391.5 mem see http://www.overclockers.co.nz/ocnz/review.php?id=04vga00r9800promsi00000r9800pro0105
There is also another great thread all about this card at http://forums.extremeoverclocking.com/showindex.php?t=118366&highlight=rx9800
The ATI Tool is quite good, i've even created a profile for 2D that is underclocked for when I'm in windows so it keeps my system a little cooler with the XT settings set to kick in when I start up 3D, coupled with a Barton 2800+, 1Gb of PC2700 and the 120Gb Maxtor with 8Mb of cache and it is all just working well together, Win XP Pro with SP2 is rock solid, well it is for me anyway, :-)
    Couple of things to know.
Win XP finds the RX as an XT, so no need to try and flash the bios, it isn't an XT PCB anyway, just an XT core.
As there is no heat sensor for the core ATIs Overdrive isn't available but you can get the ATI Tool from loads of places on the net, here is a link anyway http://www.techpowerup.com/atitool/
    happy at last :-)
    J.

Dont know if this will help but I had the same problem awhile back with an Asus A7N8X deluxe that I built for a friend.   Sometimes it would initiate the monitor and others it would not.   This drove me nuts for about a week, I tried everything that I could think of.   This is what I did to remedy the situation somewhat.
Go to the ATI website and download the catalyst removal software and also download the Catalyst 3.7 driver from there "older" drivers page.
Now boot into windows and remove the ATI drivers and control panel from add remove programs, DO NOT REBOOT!
Run the ATI driver removal tool.
Shut down the machine, REMOVE THE POWER CORD,clear cmos, set the jumper for CPU fsb to 100mhz (safemode)  and REMOVE your ram.   Boot the machine, you will get a series of beeps indicating that the memory is not installed. Shut the machine down, REMOVE THE POWER CORD, Put the memory back in, reset the CPU fsb jumper to its normal position,  and clear Cmos again.  (this series of actions  also solved my no display issue on my Mega 180 using the onboard graphics).
Now boot into bios and set it up the way you want then boot into windows and when windows tells you that it has found new hardware do not let it automatically install anything (cancel it).  Now run the 3.7 catalyst setup and follow the instructions.
I am not sure why this worked to solve the issue but it did for me on both my Mega and the above mentioned system.   I think there may be some odd conflict with the Nforce chipset and the ATI drivers and or Card bios.
Why it worked on my Mega is a mystery, I am using the onboard graphics and would have the system turn on with fans working and all but would have no display out.

  • An old subject rears its ugly head - Neo Platinum + 6800 + Sata = no 3D. Help?

I've been battling this issue for almost three months now. All of my problems started when I upgraded my hard drive to a Maxtor 6L250SO 250GB 16MB Sata hard drive. Coincidentally, only two days before I had upgraded my video card from an MSI RX9800Pro TD128 (which I never had trouble with) to an Nvidia 6800GT. For those two days that I ran the 6800GT on my old Pata hard drive, I was able to run 3D apps, although they seemed stuttery. As I said, I upgraded to the Sata hard drive, and had actually RMA-ed the old PAta hard drive, as SMART warned of failure. The point is that the Sata drive is the boot drive. Sadly, it wasn't until after I bought these nice upgrades that I learned of this forum and all of the compatibility issues with the NF3, sata drives, and the 6800.
So three weeks ago, unable to figure out why I couldn't run 3D apps, I rma-ed my K8N Neo Platinum. I received the replacement yesterday, and have spent the good part of 12 hours or so since then trying to make things work again. But it turns out I am right back to where I started before I rma-ed my mb - none of my 3D apps run for more than a few minutes. They all crash to desktop. I have read the stickies here extensively (not meaning to say that I've read it all or I know it all), but I am at a loss as to how to fix my problem.
    my specs:
    A64 3700+ Claw - no OC
MSI K8N Neo Platinum - bios 1.7, Nvidia 5.11 chipset drivers
    2GB Crucial PC3200 DDR400 - no OC
eVGA 6800GT 256MB AGP - no OC, no FW, 81.95 drivers
Maxtor 250GB Sata 16MB (boot drive on sata port 3)
    NEC DVD-RW & Asus CD-R on IDE1
    Creative Audigy2 Value
One thing I haven't tried is moving the OS to an Pata hard drive (the one I got back from rma). Is it possible that booting from a non-Pata drive will fix the problem?
Is there anyone out there that can help me fix my problem or am I just screwed? Sadly it seems as though the only solution would be to get away from the NF3 chipset but I'm tired of throwing good money after bad. Please help if you think you can. Thanks.

Today I tried the rivatuner tweak found here:
    Nvidia Forums
This didn't seem to solve the problem.
    Then I tried this:
    uninstall GART driver ONLY!
    restart
    download this driver pack
    Guru3D
install the new GART DRIVER ONLY!
    reboot
    download this
    PCI Latency Tool
DO NOT PLAY WITH THIS YOU CAN HURT YOUR COMPUTER WITH THIS.
install and change the latency on your 6800GT card to 64 aply and save (dont for get to set it up for load on startup)
    reboot
now try your DirectX 9 games with this setup
    also turn "ON" Fast Writes
This seemed to help some, but only in that I was able to play Doom3 for about 15 minutes, a record. It did not crash, I just ended the game, so i can't consider this extensive testing by any means.
The thing thaty really bothers me in all of this is that my problem seems to be more severe than everyone else's, at least from what I've read. Everyone complains about the "stuttering problem" with the NF3-250 & 6800 combo. My problem is that all of my 3D games crash (either freeze, CTD, bsod, or reboot my pc). Playing Doom3 today w/o crashing was a first since I got my 6800. That's not much consolation for me though, as my main game is BF2. Now in BF2, I can play the game for 5 or 10 minutes, but then the game screen freezes, and the game sounds get mangled and play in a loop. At that point I can't do anything with the pc but reboot.
So since it seems like I won't be able to fix the problem with my current hardware, I'm considering trying a different motherboard. I was thinking that I'd want to move away from the NF3-250 Nvidia chipset, but my hardware requirements limit the chioces drastically, and I don't want to buy a lemon. So my question is, if I were to stay with the NF3-250 chipset, is there any one board that stands out as being the least likely to have these issues? My buddy has a DFI Lanparty Ultra, and he is using a 6800 GT OC and says he has none of these issues. That sounds great, but I've also read that DFI's product support (bios and drivers) is even worse then MSI's and that scares the bejeebies out of me.

  • NVidia GeForce - NX 6800 TD128

I just got a brand new MSI gforce 6800 and I can't get it working.
It shows garbage during bios init., differently colored numbers and
it doesn't seem to ever get past the init, or maybe I just can't see it.
I flashed the mobo's bios to the latest version ( asus a7v 600 ), but
that didn't make any difference. does anyone have the same combo
    of board ( or chipset via 600 ) and 6800 series ? I got NX6800 TD128.
    thanx for your replies.

    Hi,
I've found the solution to the problem where the NX6800 non ultra was showing artifacts in bootup and in windows, and also locking up and flickering the display.
I read a lot of posts in this and other forums and its not really my own merit, but since I am in the dominican republic and rma'ing the card is not viable for me, I just deceided to go on and try.
**** Will void the warranty in your card ****
    - Remove the heatsink of the card. For that you must unscrew from the back of the card. There are 4 screws that are different from the rest, the ones in the center. So don't mix them with the other ones.
    - With a business card, credit card, plain screwdriver, remove the heat transfer patches from the heatsink. They should be a pink glue like stuff.
    - With the business card (don't use a screwdriver), remove the thermal paste off the cpu.
    - Once it's clean, you have to put some (preferrably good brand) thermal paste on top of the memory chips and the CPU chip. Not too much, not too little. Then spred it uniformly so it covers every memory chip and the cpu.
    - Don't worry if you spill it on top of other parts of the card since thermal paste doesn't conduct electricity.
    - Put the heatsink again and screw it. This time apply a bit more of force to the screews so It's well tightened.
    - Then try the card.
    It worked flawlessly for me.
I tested in a total of 4 machines before doing this, all had the same problem. After doing the modification, i tried it in one of the test machines, and in my current one, specs:
    Athlon 64 3200+
    MSI KT8 Neo
    1Gb 400mhz Kingston DDR
2x WD Raptors in SATA Raid 1
    Sound Blaster Live!
    Thermaltake 520Watt PSU
Temps are now about 50-60 celsius at gameplay (doom3)
I can't post the temps before that, since I couldn't get any game to run, either windows. Only safe mode and VGA mode.
    Hope this helps.

  • RX9800-128 Artifacts in Textures

    Hello,
I am having a problem with my MSI RX9800-128 (Green PCB) which I have had for less than 45 days. The card started out great, and it functioned great for about 31 days and then the following happened.  It started to produce these artifacts in textures that I noticed in UT2K Demo which I play almost every night. The textures would get all fragmented and blotchy.  At first I thought it could be caused by the server lag and figuired it would go away.  Well, it hasn't and is now appearing in all of my games.
(From a post yesterday, where I was told by GlennVidia to start my own thread)
During the last week of playing UT2K demo started getting heavy texture pixel artifacts that were not there before . When I saw this in UT2K demo, which was working fine for weeks I was not happy about it. FYI, I can run BV, COD, with no problems or fps loss. (Found out last night that I was wrong, it is affecting them) I had the Catalyst 4.9 installed which I uninstalled with Drive Cleaner and replaced with the latest MSI drivers. Nothing. I could not figuire out how to go back to DX9b as I am currently DX9c or I would have. I couldnt even find a place to download DX9b from. (found DX9b on my CD) I did check the DX settings and there are no problems showing. Now, last night I ran 3dmark05 and scored 2235. I don't know much about these scores but during the entire test I could see the same kind of artifacts showing up throughout the entire test. Someone has suggested that I have a problem with the video ram and should RMA the card, but I would like to rule out use error (or other hardware). Any help would be greatly appreciated and any software recommendations for testing would be greatly appreciated. I will post my IRQ summary when I get home tonight. Thanks
    (end of yesterdays post)
Here is what I have done since to try and identify the problem.
I reflashed my system bios.  I checked to see if there are any other components sharing the cards IRQ, there are not. I updated the AMD64 driver from AMD and then went back to standard WinXP's version (No Throttling).  I have tried the omega drivers, and went back to Catalyst 4.9. I uninstalled DX9c and installed DX9b. Still got the problem.
I have since ruled out UTY2K Demo. I removed the new version and installed the old and found the same thing happening. I also found that it is happening in my other games that never showed this before. I then ran 3dmark03 and my scores were fine (6053-6234) but it did show the same artifacts like I was seeing in UTy2k regardless of the drivers being used.
The only other AGP card that I have is a Rage Fury 32 that is like, 6 years old. However, I am going to try it out to eliminate the possiblility that this is being caused by my MB or something else.
Are there any suggestions? Any other software programs I can run to identify the problem. Thanks.
