S-curve color correction in Premiere Elements v11

I'm using the Technicolor Cinestyle profile in my Canon T3i when shooting video. It is recommended to apply an S-curve correction to clips in post-processing. Is that possible in Premiere Elements v11? I didn't see that anywhere in the manual or online.
Jon

Premiere Elements is a consumer product with limited color profile tools. You can do color correction, but it is not nearly advanced enought to do any professional profiling. For that, you're much better off with Premiere Pro CS6.

  • Should I color correct in Premiere Pro or something else?

Hey guys, I'm an experienced noob in digital video production. I learned on using an HD camera and Final Cut Pro 7 in my communications class. But now that I graduated, I bought myself a t3i and the adobe creative cloud. My question is, should I color correct in Premiere Pro or another suitable program (the only one I sort of know is Davinci Resolve lite)? Sure, I know it can be done in Premiere Pro, but I was wondering if there is a better alternative that I should focus my learning in for color correction. Thanks in advance!

It will do you till you get there.
A comprehensive study of CC / Grading techniques and theory ...will do more good than just learning how to work a CC Grading software application.

  • Color Correction - In Premiere CS5 or After Effects CS5?????

    Hello
I started this question in Premiere, but am now thinking that perhaps I should take advantage of the additional color correction tools in CS5 After Effects.....
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/777459?tstart=0
If any one is interested in helping me do this in AE CS5, here is a copy and paste of the question from the above link:
I have two clips that I need to color correct.  Please see attached.   I want to brighten up the clip on the BOTTOM to more match the clip on  the TOP
The cinematographer has given me these instructions:
"  Specially the third clip with the two foxes ) shots are dark compared  to the second  time the foxes are shown. You will have to apply a color  correction  filter on them and work with the midtone and the light  sliders so you  can make it a bit brighter.  Also you will probably need  to bring the  balcks down a bit once you pushed the midtones, you will  have to see  what it looks like once you are correcting."
I haven't done much color correcting, but the above seems pretty basic.  So any suggestions you have will be appreciated.

To make those changes all you really need to do is adjust the levels... so apply a "levels" effect and adjust accordingly... in either Premiere or After Effects... it works the same in both.

  • Color correcting in Premiere or Photoshop?

I'm new to Premiere and want to color correct some footage. I'm also new to color correcting. Am I better off learning to color correct my footage in Premiere or should I bring it into Photoshop to do it there?
    Thanks.

A dedicated color correction app is on its way, maybe CS6. However, we find using the fast color corrector and the three way color corrector in PP quite effective for the basic primary/secondary color correction we do. Gotta watch your scopes though (waveform/vectorscope at the very least). Creative Cow has some tutorials on basic color correction. Here's one, but you'll have to dig around for the others by Andrew Devis. Again, don't do any color correction without checking your scopes.

  • Fast color correction in premiere pro

Hi, I'm having a problem using Fast color correction with two different clips which show the same picture and are of different colors. here are the frames:
This is the correct color; checking the white balance it's perfectly white when check with the front of the raft. Perhaps the saturation should be slightly modified but over all this is exactly what you see when arriving at Red Cavern (the name speaks for itself) on the Colorado.
Here is the same shot taken at the same hour by a friend of mine who gave me some of his footage; everything is either white, pink or grey even the yellow raft on the left has not its true pure yellow which it is in reality:
Although taken at 20 years interval, the shots were done most probably at the same hour. The only difference being a more important set of trees due essentially to the level of water higher on my trip in 1995 than 2 years ago on my friend's one. The beach on the right side of mine being under water or having formed later. Of course the second shot is done with a digital camcorder which did not exist 20 years earlier.
As one can see the reds are washed out  and do not correspond to reality. The footage is taken at the Red Cavern on the Colorado
The problem is to correct the second footage to get the same reds as both footage cross dissolve from one to the other and that I  wish of course to be nearer as possible of the true colors. I can't check the white balance using Fast color correction on the second footage because there is no pure white visible anywhere. The sand at the base of the cavern or on its right is not white in reality as it consists of deposits either of mud from the river or sandstone of the cavern and the redwall above. Which effect would enable me to correct the second footage to approach as much as possible to the same color of the first one. Most probably FCC is not the right effect to choose.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
    Claude

I think that's about as nice as you can expect ... years apart, or even just hours apart with sun coming in a different angle on the same rocks (not even depending on any reflection changes!) can oft get massive shifts in "apparent" color. Which is ... real? Either, both, neither? It's actually one of the things that makes going back & shooting in the same place over & over interesting ... it's never EXACTLY the same ... or rarely so.
Ahh, now we're almost into a discussion someone will moan about needing to be continued over on the Sg forum ... tee-hee.
From your comment about transferring clips ... are you using an EDL process? When using "Direct Link" (the "direct to SpeedGrade" command) normally all the "stuff" from the PrPro project are included. There have been the odd instances where Sg doesn't "see" something, but ... I'm curious, I've not run into this for most anything I've done "direct". Either direct or EDL can work, but it does change your work-patterns a ton depending on which you choose.
SpeedGrade is an amazing tool ... and is designed to give a very good basic correction and then allow one to step off the deep-end into stylin' your shots. Especially with the large collection of "legacy" clips you've got from your friend, that seem to be of a similar "look", you can correct those for basics (WB, dynamic range, blacks & whites, hue shifts) using a Primary or two or three and then a Secondary for the hue-shifts. Then save that as a "Look" and anytime you run more of those clips, you can just in a couple clicks throw that Look over top of them and have all your previous work on that footage done bang. Slick as all get out, and I think you'll love that part of it.
Just a bit on my process that has come about since going so heavily into DL ... it used to be enough "work" to export an EDL, load things into Sg, then export out to re-import back into PrPro that like most I did pretty much to edit-lock & then to Sg. That is pretty much History ... it's so fast that when I start putting together a sequence for a new project I'll just throw a number of clips onto the timeline ... DL to Sg, do a Basic grade on them (especially if there's significant skin as I've got a GH3 and it naturally makes skin un-natural so I've a Look to recover skin-looking skin) and go back to PrPro. Now as I'm editing I've got a feel for how good a visual I'll get off that group of clips. Mostly finish my editing, with maybe an occasional minute or two over in Sg (quite literallly) doing something like making something a Master Clip so the other bits of that one get the same grade automatically). Before doing the final export out of PrPro I'll go to Sg and do the rest of the "style" work.
Then back in PrPro thow on my titles & such, pop in any fixed audio from Audition, & out it goes.
I do use some "adjustment layers" added to sequences in PrPro simply to use for additional grading layers to utilize in Sg over groups of clips or occasionally one if I'm doing enough I want to put it "up" on a different layer. Not always ... but sometimes.
Pretty slick for the most part.

  • Camera Shake corrections in Premiere Elements 11

I have an interview that has several camera shakes in it.  I have tried to add the video stabilizer to the clip, but that freezes all movement and continues with the audio.  Everything I have researched says there should be a video warp, but I am not seeing this on PE11.  Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am new at this!!  Thanks

    mallorykpoe
The Warp Stabilizer is a feature of Premiere Pro, not Premiere Elements (any version).
Apparently you have found the Premiere Elements 11 Video Stabilizer/Stabilizer under fx Effects in your Premiere Elements 11. (By the way, on what computer operating system are you running Premiere Elements 11?)
I would give another look at the Premiere Elements 11 Stabilizer effect, going a lot less on the settings. Often here you gain more by less than by more.
The results also will depend on the nature of your footage. And, note that a file to which Stabilizer is applied has a markedly increase Timeline render time.
There are alternative products. If you are a Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit users, the Movie Maker will present with a Video Stabilizer that you might want to explore.
Please review and consider and then let us know the results obtained.
    Thank you.

  • Color Correction in Premiere Pro CS5

    Hello all,
Like a lot of people I have started looking for an alternative to FCP and Color since it seems like apple is dragging their feet a bit.  However, during my switch process, I am encountering a few problems.
My biggest problem is in the color correction department. I love the color correction effects that you can use in PP, however when editing a large amount of clips on huge timelines, it becomes time consuming to have to click on each clip to gets its effects to come up in the window.
In FCP you can gang a sequence to the viewer monitor and when the playhead moves the color correction adjustments change to whatever clip you are on. Same with Color.  move the playhead and the adjustments change to whatever is associated with the clip, making it really efficient to color correct.
So...... does anyone know a similar way to use PP in the same way.
Thanks in advance for your help.
also, anyone know where the zoom transitions went on CS5 for mac?
    Thanks again.
    Nick

    Hey Nick,
I don't know how to do that in PP.  I use MB Looks for CC and the best I can offer is to copy and paste down the line.  I will grade one clip and then paste those settings to the rest of appropriate clips in that scene, tweaking when necessary.
    Hope that helps!

  • Has Adobe solved the crashing issues for Premiere Elements 10?

    Hi there,
I've been using Adobe Premiere Elements 8 for about 2 years now.  I do like this program and appreciate it being quite a straight forward,  uncomplicated,  video editing program.  One thing which really annoys me about it,  however,  is its constant tendency to just crash when I import and move around *.jpg images using motion tracking,  or just dragging something around the screen.  For example,  I film myself walking into a room with my hand pretending to hold a balloon.  I then import a *.jpg image of a balloon into the shot and move to position it in my hand as though it's really there.
My intention is to edit the balloon image to follow my hand while I'm in the room and,  while I could use the motion tracking feature,  I prefer to edit frame by frame,  or else the *.jpg image doesn't always line up properly with what it's following (it's close enough,  but I prefer doing it myself).
Whenever I move an imported *.jpg image on the screen,  it obviously becomes blocky for a moment until you wait for the image to become clear (I think pixilated is the right term,  but am not certain) or unblocky (ie curved edges,  which moved and became square,  become curved again).
What Premiere Elements 8 has been doing on my computer (which has an i5 processor,  more than enough memory and so forth) is to crash out of the program when I drag an image across the screen.
It has helped to move a picture slightly,  wait for it to become clear,  then move it slightly again,  but this still has a tendency to cause Premiere Elements to crash out.
CAN ANYONE tell me,  please,  if Adobe Premiere Elements 10 has this or similar issues because this problem alone is driving me crazy?
    Advance thanks.

    Welcome to the forum.
Many users felt that PrE 8 was a very weak release (kind of like Adobe's version of MS's Vista OS), but most users, with properly setup and tuned computers, find that PrE 10 is a very stable build.
For the issues with PrE 8 crashing, I would see this ARTICLE. It starts with a checklist on setting up PrE and the computer, for best results. Then, it goes into many tuneup tips, for both the computer, and the OS. Finally, it lists links to help with troubleshooting.
Good luck, and hope that something in the article helps,

  • Color Correction doesn't export

    Hi Everyone,
Hoping someone can help me with an issue that I somehow can't figure out how to solve. So I do most of my color correction@ within Premiere Pro however, I've noticed that whenever I export my video, the color correction is either not there or the color is muted. For example, I like the colors to pop out in my videos so I increase the saturation a lot however when I export it via Adobe Media Encoder it gives me a video with muted color that doesn't look close to what I see in my Program Monitor.
Should I just do my color correction in SpeedGrade (will have to learn) or is there anyway I can fix this?

The format I'm exporting is H.264, present is Vimeo HD 1080p 23.976.
I usually just import the footages natively, some are DSLR footages and some are Sony footages, still at the H.264 format.
    Does that help a little?

  • Is there anti jitter (shake) add-ons for premiere elements 10?

I notice youtube can correct my bicycle videos for jitter movement of my videos.  Is there a way to correct in Premiere Elements 10.
    -Dale

    Hi Dale,
To add to Steve's point, I would like to tell you about Smart Fix. When you import your file, the Autoanalyzer analyzes your file, or you can manually start it by right click and Run Auto Analyzer, after analyzing it will suggest you if any fix is needed for your clip, like fixing brightness and contrast or in your case shakiness too. Try this out as well!
    Happy Editing,
    Aniks

  • Three-Way Color Correction in Adobe Premiere Elements 13?

Does Adobe Premiere Elements 13 have the Three-Way Color Correction feature, as found in past versions? Really important.

    Phil-SC
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 running on?
    In Premiere Elements 12 or 13 Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit
The short answer is Yes. See fx Effect/Color Correction/Three-Way Color Correction.
The longer answer is in the form of the following 3 screenshots displaying a side by side comparison of the 12 and 13  settings area in Applied Effects/Applied Effects Palette/Three-Way Color Correction Panel expanded
    Midtones
Premiere Elements 12 on left, Premiere Elements 13 on right
    Highlights
Premiere Elements 12 on left, Premiere Elements 13 on right
    Shadows
Premiere Elements 12 on left, Premiere Elements 13 on right
I have not done a side by side comparison of results from the two versions, but they have the same controls and
    options as you can see.

  • Secondary color correction not working in Premiere CC

    Greetings,
I'm unable to build secondary color correction masks in Three Way Color Corrector, RGB Curves etc in the current version of Premiere CC.
In any of these plugins, when I check "show mask" I get the usual white slate filling the frame. But when I use the color picker to make a selection the whole frame stays white. It appears that I'm making selections but it's not building the mask for some reason. When making an extreme color change I can see that the mask is not building as it affects the whole frame.
This started after upgrading to CC. I've recently updated to the most up to date version (yesterday) and am still having the same problem.
    Premiere CC 2014.1 Release
    8.1.0 (81) Build
Macbook Pro Retina, 15" Late 2013
    2Gh Intel Core i7
    8Gb
    Intel Iris Pro 1536Mb
    Yosemite Version 10.10
*note-my Colleague is not having this problem, he's working on the same OS and same CC build but he has an Imac. So I'm guessing this problem is unique to my hardware config.
Anybody else have this problem or know of a fix?

I have the same Problem new MAC OS Premier Pro CC or Premier Pro CS6 both have an issue with the Title Tool. If you open the title tool and try to make color changes or change size of the font it sticks at the default color and default font. SOmetimes the title tool will work and then when I exit it's back to the default first type location, default font and default color. Sometimes it will not even let me exit the Title Tool.

  • Having several problems with Adobe Premiere Elements 13.  Right now my worst is that when I add text to a clip, it goes out of "auto color" while the text is up.  Help?

I'm having a number of problems with Elements 13.  One is that, while in "play" mode, the sound will just stop happening.  I have to click "pause" then "go" again and the sound comes back.  It also stops playing on it's own, I have to hit "play" repeatedly.  Just got the software, have been using it extensively for a week or two, and this just started happening.dor
Now today, when I add text to a clip, it drops out of "auto color" while the text is visible in the clip, then back into auto color when the text is gone.  Any suggestiosn?

If we are looking at the same thing, you have called attention to one strange Premiere Elements 13 AutoColor/Titler interaction. This can be reproduced in the Expert or
the Quick workspace. I will demo this in the Quick workspace since that is where you have been working.
    1. Import a still into the Quick workspace/Filmstrip.
    2. With the still selected, go to Adjust Tab/Adjustments Palette/Color Panel expanded and just click on the Auto Color Tab. Close the Adjust Tab route.
    3. Go to Text Menu/New Text/Default Text to open the project's Titler. When you do that you see the following and not the still over which the text title is to go.
And when you close the Titler, you then see the "Add Text" text title in the still.
The only solution that I can think of at this time is to create the text title and then apply the Auto Color to the still.
It is interesting that this only happens with the Auto Color in the Color Panel selected. If you do not click on
Color Panel and use the More options for Color adjustments, this behavior does not take place.
Deletion of Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file does not correct this situation.
    As for
I'm having a number of problems with Elements 13.  One is that, while in "play" mode, the sound will just stop happening.  I have to click "pause" then "go" again and the sound comes back.  It also stops playing on it's own, I have to hit "play" repeatedly.  Just got the software, have been using it extensively for a week or two, and this just started happening.dor
I think that here we need to explore project settings (project presets), properties of source media, and Timeline rendered and unrendered content prior to export.
    Please review the above
    a. verify if the Auto Color Text Title glitch that I saw is what you described in your situation
    b. give the details of your project so that we can explore cause and effect for Timeline content playback irregularities as seen in the Edit area monitor.
    Thanks.

I no longer have sound when playing my clips through adobe premiere elements 12. How to I correct this problem? I have checked all audio levels and there is no mute on etc. I updated to 12.1, but still no sound in any clips. Even not on old files which used to work.

What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 12/12.1 running on? Can we assume that this audio plays back OK
on the same computer when you are using a computer player independent of Premiere Elements?
What are the properties of these clips that worked before but do not know with regard to sound
For now, I will assume that you are working on Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit.
Have you checked the Edit Menu/Preferences/Audio Hardware ASIO settings? Do you have any 3rd party audio devices incorporated in your computer environment?
Please delete the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file and, if that does not work, then the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. The Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit path is
    Local Disk C
    Users
    Owner
    AppData
    Roaming
    Adobe
    Premiere Elements
    12.0
and, in the 12.0 Folder, is the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file that you delete. If that does not work, then delete the whole 12.0 Folder in which the Adobe Premiere Elements Prefs file exists. Make sure that you are working with Folder Option "Show Hidden Files, Folders, and Drives" active so that you can see the complete path cited.
Do you have installation files or installation disc with the purchased serial number in case we need to resort to uninstall/reinstall?
We will be watching for your follow up.

  • Transitions not working in Premiere CS6.Video was color corrected in AE 6 and sent back to PPro cs6.

I exported my film to AE6 from Premiere CS6 for color-correction and got it back to Premiere Pro through DYNAMIC LINK.Now,the problem is that AE has discarded all the transitions and also cross-dissolve and film-dissolve don't seem to work on this color-corrected video.I am able to apply the transitions but they don't work....somebody please help!

As Jim said, not all effects and transitions are properly translated when you replace a group of clips with dynamically linked AE composition. Actually you should have noticed that your cross-dissolves etc. had been replaced with black solid layers in After Effects, which didn't reflect your PrPro transitions.
Now you can jump back to your AE project and fix broken transitions there.
For your future work you should keep it in mind and decide whether to replace a group of clips (and, therefore, fix broken transitions in After Effects) or a single clip, taking care of its handles.
