S L O W Saves from Flash 8 over network??
This is a Flash 8 vs. Flash MX 2004 issue...
Anyone else noticing a difference saving files over a network from Flash 8. I have never had a problem with Flash MX 2004 saving over a network, but now saving a 14 MB flash file to a Mac OS X Server (Sawtooth G4 running Jaguar Server 10.2.8) is taking up to 2 minutes over AFP!!
An odd thing about this is that my first save will take 15 seconds, my second about 2 minutes, the third around 15 seconds, the fourth around 2 minutes and so on... A "Save as" will take about 40 seconds consistently.
Again that is using AFP, but even using SMB I notice this alternate short/long save time. Using SMB a "Save as" takes 16 seconds on the same 14 MB file. Then the first save will take 3 seconds and the second about 13 seconds, the third save will take 3 seconds the fourth save will take 14 seconds etc...
Now this looks like a good case for using SMB over AFP (but that is a topic for another forum). However, it is clearly a Flash 8 vs. Flash MX 2004 issue. When I go back to using Flash MX 2004 saves pretty consistently take about 2-3 seconds and "Save As" takes about 10 seconds. This is using AFP or SMB (SMB is a bit faster).
I called Macromedia (Adobe) support for help and their only answer is that "saving over a network is not reccommended or supported" (neither is this documented, even though some of their tutorial examples use network workflows). I told them that Flash MX 2004 (and previous) NEVER gave me this problem which has apparently been introduced with Flash 8 Professional.
Anyone else have this issue?
Thanks

Evidently, I am asking for trouble here...
Viewing the responses on other forums, opening & saving files over the network is being strongly discouraged.
I've never heard of this being an issue and in fact it is something that we have been doing without problem for ten years here. It's only until Flash 8 that I have even questioned it.
Any other opinions out there?

Why is it that saves from flash games always get deleted when I shut down the browser?
I'm on the website Kongregate, and I'm playing gemcraft labyrinth, which saves automatically (you can even see the save file when you exit to the main menu of gemcraft), but whenever i close the browser, the info is gone.
Is that data saved in a Flash cookie or in a normal cookie or as a file on your computer?
Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear cookies. -
I have this Flash application that'd allow users to select
cliparts, enter text to create custom designs. At the end of the
process, I want them to be able to capture the design area and save
it as a JPEG file. I can get Flash to pass the pixel information of
the movie screen, but I can't figure out how to get CF to generate
the image on the receiving end. I searched online and found a
couple of PHP examples on dynamically generating JPEG files from
pixel information passed from Flash - is there a Coldfusion
equivalent of that? thanks in advance.thanks! recreating PHP in CF might be the better choice.
below is the PHP code - is there a CF equivalent to
imagecreatetruecolor? thanks again!
<?php
error_reporting(0);
* Get the width and height of the destination image
* from the POST variables and convert them into
* integer values
$w = (int)$_POST['width'];
$h = (int)$_POST['height'];
// create the image with desired width and height
$img = imagecreatetruecolor($w, $h);
// now fill the image with blank color
// do you remember i wont pass the 0xFFFFFF pixels
// from flash?
imagefill($img, 0, 0, 0xFFFFFF);
$rows = 0;
$cols = 0;
// now process every POST variable which
// contains a pixel color
for($rows = 0; $rows < $h; $rows++){
// convert the string into an array of n elements
$c_row = explode(",", $_POST['px' . $rows]);
for($cols = 0; $cols < $w; $cols++){
// get the single pixel color value
$value = $c_row[$cols];
// if value is not empty (empty values are the blank pixels)
if($value != ""){
// get the hexadecimal string (must be 6 chars length)
// so add the missing chars if needed
$hex = $value;
while(strlen($hex) < 6){
$hex = "0" . $hex;
// convert value from HEX to RGB
$r = hexdec(substr($hex, 0, 2));
$g = hexdec(substr($hex, 2, 2));
$b = hexdec(substr($hex, 4, 2));
// allocate the new color
// N.B. teorically if a color was already allocated
// we dont need to allocate another time
// but this is only an example
$test = imagecolorallocate($img, $r, $g, $b);
// and paste that color into the image
// at the correct position
imagesetpixel($img, $cols, $rows, $test);
// print out the correct header to the browser
header("Content-type:image/jpeg");
// display the image
imagejpeg($img, "", 90);

Saving and Opening files from Flash Drive Mac to Windows Computer
Hi!
I recently purchased a generic Flash drive (2gb). I am having problems saving things on it. Sometimes when i drag a file to the flash drive icon it doesn't load properly or transfers well. I try opening it and it says: "FILE ERROR
Couldn't open the file. It may be corrupt or a file format that Preview doesn't recognize." Some documents do open well. I also tried opening files on a windows computer and it says it has to be formated. I format it and of course everything deletes.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
ThanksOK. I did.
But here is the problem, it still doesn't save certain file on the flash drive. Most of the files are either jpg.,cwk.,pdf., or mov.
The mov. won't even play. It works fine when i save files from a windows computer, but not when i save from my mac.
I really have no idea why its doing this. I am aware that certain file can't be opened from a mac to a window, but i just don't know why, when i place a file into the flash drive icon and try to re-open it, it says the error message again (On my mac).
Thanks. -
Export svg sequence from Flash into Edge?
Hey there,
I'm really struggling to get a animation out of Flash into Edge as a frame by frame SVG sequence.
I've tried the Flash2SVG extension in multiple Flash versions and it doesn't work.
At the moment I'm doing this...
from Flash CS6 export FXG
import into Illustrator CS6
save as SVG
import in Edge
which is very time consuming and sometimes stuffs up positioning of elements in each frame.
Anyone got a solution?
Thanks in advance.The latest Flash CC 2014 release has an export to SVG option, which exports the current frame as SVG. There is no direct way to export the entire animation as SVG sequence though.

Can't export image files from flash
In Flash 13.1.0.226 it seems like the options to export a layered image are gone. When I go to export>image there is no longer an option for .fxg
I've read through this forum and Adobe recommends export .svg. There is absolutely no option to export or save as .svg
The only export options I see are jpg and png, which is useless to me. Please tell me how to export a layered image from Flash.Hi ,

Flash CS3 Save As Flash 5?
My son is taking a Flash class at the local college. The lab
computers all run Flash 5. We have installed Flash Professional CS3
on his computer (Win XP). He would like to edit .fla files at home
and still be able to use them in class.
Unfortunately, the only option in the "Save As..." dialogue
is for Flash 8 format, which he could not open in Flash 5.
"Export..." offers a number of options, none of them .fla. Of
course we can "Publish..." Flash 5 Player-compatible .swf files,
but that's not going to help him edit.
So, is there anyway to save a Flash 5 .fla file from the
current version of Flash?
Alternatively, is there anyway to obtain a licensed copy of
Flash 5?
Thanks in advance.gejarrett,

That's going to be tough. :( As you've seen, CS3 saves to
Flash 8. If
you happen to have a copy of Flash 8, you'll find it saves
back to Flash MX
2004 (aka 7), and so on. It's possible to save a CS3 FLA file
back to Flash
5, but you have to have access to each version of the IDE
back to Flash MX
(aka 6).

I suppose it's *possible* you might find something on eBay
or the like,
but used software purchases often raise a few red flags. If
you search
around, it might be possible to find an old trial version ...
the kind that
dies after 30 days. That might be the best you can do.
I'm actually kind of wincing that a college is still
training people on
Flash 5. So much has changed, much of the training may not be
useful. (I
realize I'm likely preaching to the choir.)

I created an email form in my swf. It emails text from input
fields. I want to also include an image with the text. Does anyone
know how to do that?So first you must use BitmapData to export the data from
flash to some picture file with for example php is good.You can use
BitmapData.draw(Target) and after that to store all the pixels into
array and send to php there must generate new image file.I
recommend to use POST method because the array of pixels is too
long and when you dont have access to the php.ini file to change
the max send data for get the server send errors.Okey now i stop to
talk and i give you link to .fla file because is too long to
explain.This file is my project that you can get picture from the
camera and save into the server is simply application and i think
you can understand the chifly idea.So when you create your
application u must add some lines into php that send the picture
and message to email. Link to fla. -

The other way that i already say you is to upload file with
FileReference
LiveDocs
FileReference.And afcource the php see in this site into
comments very useful things about attachment and send via html
PHP Mail() Function
btw i forgot i have small problem with the colors sometimes
the new saveed picture has more green color.But i think this can
script can explain the idea :)

Why export to EPS was removed from Flash CS4?
Hello.
I just installed evaluation of Flash CS4. I am confused that EPS support was removed. I need illustrations in EPS, because I use LaTeX.
It there workarounds to get an EPS file from a FLA file?I am having an Identical issue. The help files show an ability to export to EPS 3.0, but there is absolutely no way to do this in Flash CS4 that I can see. For now, I downloaded the trial of illustrator to use as a work around. Interestingly, you have to export from flash as an *.ai file, open it in illustrator, and THEN save as EPS from illustrator. WWWW TTTTT FFFFF. Is adobe deteriorating? I can't even copy from flash and paste into Illustrator.
Perhaps adobe has some kind of explanation - but I doubt it. -
CSV , text file out put from flash exe
Hi,
I want to save data from flash exe to CSV file and text file
. OS is XP and there will be no server connections. Is this
possible. Please help.
Thanks,
ManuIf th ecomputer you're working with has some server software
running (Apache or IIS) you could save your data with php or asp.
If you don't then you could use the Shared Objects (which works as
a cookie, so you'll be e bit limited here). There was a function
called MMSAVE back in FlashMX, don't know it that still works, that
writes to a text file (but only in the development enviroment).
Let me know a few more details and we'll find a way.
Cheers

I am using AS2 and passing some values from flash to php, flash files is on page file1.php values are passing fine , it pass values when user click button
when button is pressed { var myVal:LoadVars = new LoadVars(); myVal.flieName = "fileid1 "; myVal.send("file1.php", "_parent", "POST"); }
Problem: when it pass the values , it refresh the page and Flash File is also refreshed and Flash file start from frame 1 and all the values on flash becomes default in other words when user click "file1.php" is sumbitted , so the page is refreshed What is the solution , that after passing values the page remains or flash reamins as it is ( not refresh the contents )use:
var receiveLV:LoadVars=new LoadVars();
receiveLV.onData=function(src){
var myVal:LoadVars = new LoadVars(); myVal.flieName = "fileid1 "; myVal.sendAndLoad("file1.php", receiveLV,"POST"); } -
With CS5.5 I could export vector art from Flash and open it in illustrator. Now with CS6 I cant do that without breaking everything apart if flash first. This can cause masks to be lost and is a lenghty and complicated process. If I don't break everthing apart not all the layers are imported on the fxg when opened in illustrator. Does anyone know of a solution for this?
Above is a screenshot of artwork in flash. Below is the result after exporting an fxg and opening in illustrator.
It does work if I go into the group and then export (or break everything apaprt so they are no longer in groups). Some files I work with have loads of grouped elements with layer masks making it very complex to break apart and export as fxg. Previous versions allowed export in one step, I could then unlock layers or show hidden layers in the illustrator file. The masks would be imported too. -
CS4 animated gif imported from Flash - how to link
I have a few animated gifs published from Flash CS4 the files have clickTag info in the actionscript but Flash will not export that so I need to make the animated .gifs click to their respective links.
How do I do in Photoshop CS4?
any help??
rdefPhotoshop can produce animated GIF files but I'm confused by your request.
You cannot embed any linking data in a GIF file. This is done in HTML. -
LoadVars-using send to pass a variable from flash to php
For the life of me, I've tried everything:
I've researched LoadVars on Adobe forum, used David Powers'
books, googled 'flash to php', LoadVars, etc. and tried
sendAndLoad, send, and using $_POST, $_GET, $_REQUEST.
$HTTP_POSTVARS but I keep getting this same error. any advice
please?

to load name-value pairs into an array -see thread)

pass a variable from flash to a variable in php.

var c :LoadVars = new LoadVars();
c.testing = "123FOUR";
