S.M.A.R.T. on fasttrak controller?

I have 2 IDE harddisks connected to the Promise Fasttrak, and I would like to monitor their temperatures with speedfan.
I was able to do this when these disks were connected to the VIA controller, before I moved them yesterday.
But now speedfan does not detect them.
Is it possible to read SMART data at all from this controller?

None that I ever found. I can't read the Promise for temps either. I just keep my raid running with a fan blowing cool air over the drives and use my Hardcanno to check temps there. I have yet to see any issues with HDD temps though so it was never a concern for me.

  • MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR Questions & RAID Promise FastTrak Controller Issue

I have recently rebuilt my system replacing the MSI KT3 with an MSI K7N2 Delta. I have been impressed with the features and stability of the system, however, I have some questions that I hope some of you that have more experience of this board can answer:
    1. I am using the AMD Athlon XP 2200 (and all the other components including the Lian Li case) which I was using on the KT3 board. The CPU temperature is around 45 degrees C but on the KT3 it was only 35 degrees C when idle. Any ideas ? The heatsink is definetly mounted properly. The temperature did drop by 10 degrees C when I flashed the
BIOS to fix the known CPU temperature issue but I think its still high.
    2. I do not have any serial ATA devices or anything connected to IDE3 channel and during the BIOS boot up I get the message:
"No drives attached to FastTrak Controller. Bios Not installed."
Is this correct ? Should I be getting this message ?
I would like to disable the onboard Promise Controller since it is taking up resources and it slows down the boot speed (although only slightly). The MSI website says that the onboard RAID controller can't be disabled. I think this is poor design. Does anyone know if this is going to be addressed in future BIOS releases ?
    3. Which of the USB ports are USB 2.0 and USB 1.1. I thought it was rather strange that only 2 of the 4 ports on the header actually active.
    Many thanks for your help.
    Rupesh

First off your temp is ok on that board. If you have not loaded the onboard raid driver do so and it is something you have to suffer with on the MSI board. All of your USB ports should run at USB 2.0 and you also should be able enable all of them in the bios.

  • Fasttrak controller nonexistant

when i boot up i get an error that says,
no drive attached to FastTrak Controller, the BIOS is not installed. how can i fix this? i've been into the bios and have the operting system installed.

    Hi,
You could close your eyes while it's booting.
This is NOT an error message, it's just telling you that you don't have anything attached to the Fasttrack Contoller - so it won't install it's BIOS. It's stating the obvious really!
In other words - just ignore it!

  • FastTrak 376 RAID on KT4 Failure?

    My System Specs.
    MSI KT4 Ultra A6590VZ2 V1.3B1 121702
    AMD Athlon(tm) XP 2200+
    AMI BIOS  12/17/2002

    Audigy 1 Sound
    Sony DRU500a DVD-r-rw+r+rw (Primary Slave) IDE1
    Maxtor 20 gig ATA/100 (Secondary Slave) IDE2
    Maxtor 120 gig ATA/133 (Raid Master) IDE3
System fully operational for 6 months.  Yesterday Morning BSOD from Windows XP  Kernel_Inpage_Error.  Power down machine, and power back up.   Boot Failure.  Seems as if the FastTrak RAID controller isn't reconizing my Maxtor 120gig ATA/133 Hard Disk.  Reboot a few more times, same problem.
Download PowerMax from Maxtor's website to determine what hardware is failing.  For me to run these diagnostics, I have to plug the Maxtor 120gig onto the normal IDE channels.  The drive is reconized by the Primary IDE channel (interesting).  If the drive is reconized by the standard IDE channels, why isn't the FastTrak controller reconizing it?  I run diagnostic checks on hard drive.  It seems to pass the tests.
Out of curiosity, I plug my Maxtor 20 gig into the RAID channel to see if it reconized it, it didn't.  So this leads me to beleive that the RAID controller isn't functioning properly.  I tried it in all Master/Slave jumper configurations as well.
I saw in Promise Technologies FAQ that it is possible to access the data from a standard IDE channel, with RAID 0 mapped drives.  In this case, mine is RAID 0 with no array.  Just 1 drive to the EIDE interface on the KT4 ultra board.  Is this possible?  How is it performed?
Any inquiries would be of significant help!
    Thanks.

Well, jumpers shouldn't be an issue. This confuration has worked for six months.  RAID 0,  and Windows XP installation.  Flawless and fast, even. ,  just yesterday morning, Kernel_inpage_Error BSOD, and now the FastTrak Controller won't reconize any drives.  All HardDisks pass the manufactures diagnostics, plus, the drives work on the Primary/Secondary IDE channels.

  • Error detecting promise sata controller on kt4 ultra

    Hello,
I've searched the forum and "the rest" of the internet without finding a solution to my problem.
The problem is: Normally when you boot the kt4-ultra you will have a message saying "FastTrack 376(tm) Bios version 1.00.0.18(c)2002-2005 Promise Technology, Inc." and then either No drive attached to FastTrack Controller, The BIOS is not installed or information about your HDD configuration.
In my case sometimes without any reasonable explaination my computer won't detect the promise fasttrak controller AT ALL! It just jumps right over it, as it didn't excists. This is very strange since it's enabled in the BÌOS settings and it could be detected at the next reboot, or in many cases it wont be detected again for several days
As far as I can see it has nothing to do with the harddrives connected to it, as it happens anyway either with a SATA disk connected, IDE disk or no disks at all....
If anyone could help me out with this problem I'll be very gratefull!

I've litary tried every possible combination. The problem remains even with no disks or CD/DVD drives installed on the Fasttrak controller or IDE 1/2. Sometimes the controller is detected, sometimes not.
I should point out that if the controller is detected it always find my HDD who's connected to it and it works fine in Windows. But if it's not detected Windows will find a new hardware and try to install drivers to it, but it won't work cause the hardware is reporting an error and Windows will ofcourse not find a disk....

  • No drive attached to FastTrak message during boot

I have installed the MS 6190 mainboard with AMD ATHLON XP 2100+ and VGA MS8890.
During boot, even if all peripherals are correctly detected, I got the following message :
"No drive attached to FastTrak controller, BIOS is not install".
I do not understand at all this message. I can enter the BIOS (AMIBIOS V3.31a), but modifying parameters does not solve the situation. The device then asks to if I want to start Windows normally, or in safe mode, but it always reboot and I am stuck in this infernal loop.
    Thanks for help,
    Nicolas

    Hi,
Go into the BIOS and find the RAID or Sata controller, turn it off, that will remove that message.

  • Promise SATA controller in XP 64

    Hello all,
I have recently installed XP Pro 64. My problem involves the Promise SATA controller. I installed the Promise & Via XP 64 drivers at installation. However, the Promise controller and SATA drive did not appear during installation and the drive is missing in the operating system. All is fine with the VIA controller. The Promise controller appears in the device manager but the hard drive is nowhere to be found. All works fine in XP 32. I’ve been reading the online forums (including MSI’s) and have seen similar problems. Just wondering if anyone has experienced the same problem and has found a work-around? Any input would be deeply appreciated.

  • MSI K7N2 Delta ILSR - RAID BIOS Option ???

    hi ho,
i have my 2 storage devices pluged into the promise 376 onboard controller. they are not connected as a real raid (not mirror nor real stripe). my OS is win2k on the first sata device and everything was fine for a long time.
but now when my system boots, it detects the ide drives and then i see the irq board.
right after that the system stops and tells me 'disk boot failure'. so i don`t get the chance to configure my raidcontroller or my sata devices.
it is as the controller is deactivated. i remember a bios version where you could activate and deactivate the sata controller. but in my bios (right now it is v7.8) there is no such option.
    i have tested so far:
    - reset cmos
    - flash bios v7.5 to 7.8
    - disconnected sata drives
anyone with similar problems or any suggestion?

watch the bottom of the screen after pressing Enter on the "Welcome to Setup" screen. There will be some moments of files being loaded, and then you should see a message appear which says "Press F6 if you need to install a 3rd party SCSI or RAID driver". This message will only stay on the screen for a couple of seconds, so press F6 as soon as you see it appear. After this is done, you will see other messages appear, and it will act as though nothing is happening, but eventually a screen will appear which will allow you to install the drivers for the sata controller.
specify a device press S, select "win 2000 promise fasttrak 376 controller" it will read floppy and load, dot not remove floppy yet, continue win2000 install it may nead to access floppy to finish installing raid driver, did you do it like this.
try making some floppy boot disks and boot to floppy instead of cd.

when you say there not listed, where did you see this? they wont be listed, windows will search for fasttrak controller so it will see sata's conected to it with out you knowing, so long as you load the controller from floppy that came with mobo as above.

  • RAID disk not detected by Windows XP

I have installed a single disk connected to the RAID controller on my K7T266 Pro2-R Mobo.
The RAID controller (that is enabled in BIOS) detects the disk, reports a correct size and reports it as "Functional". I have used the BIOS utility to assign an "Array" to the single disk drive.
I downloaded the latest drivers from this site and I have installed the drivers in Windows XP Pro (a number of times...)  In the Device Manager, I get a "Windows XP Promise FastTrak100(tm) Controller(PDC20265)" under the "SCSI and RAID controllers" folder. The driver seems to work (at least the Device Manager claims "This device is working properly.")
The disk itself does not show up under the "Disk drives" folder in the Device Manager.  The "Disk Management" in Windows XP also treats the disk as non-existent.
When I tried to install the "FastCheck Monitoring Utility", I got error messages "Service Install - Unknown Error". When trying to run the utility, it says "FastTrak controller or driver not found".
The event log says nothing of interrest.
I use the FastTrak PCI version in another system running Windows 2003 Server and there everything works OK. But that driver is almost a year newer...
What's wrong?  Has anybody got the on-board FastTrak controler to work in WinXP? Any hints on what to do to make it work?

I just happened ( ) to have a second identical disk drive laying around (Christmas time you know...) so I installed it in the system.  If the driver has any "single disk restrictions", it should work now - shouldn't it?
The BIOS RAID setup happilly discovered the new disk and I configured the two disks as a stripe set.
Windows XP?  Nothing.  The disks simply doesn't exist. There must be something wrong with the WinXP driver, but I can't figure out what.  I've scanned the Internet and there seems to be a number of people having the same problem, but I haven't found anyone that have a solution.
MSI? Promise? We have a problem here...

  • KT4 ULTRA FISR SATA Problem

I really need some help here. I have a KT4 Ultra board with SATA Interface and a brand new Seagate Barracuda 120 GB. On to the problem .. when i booted up the computer for the first time, it detected my disc. After that .. i was testing som different settings in the BIOS .. and had to clear the CMOS Now .. it won´t detect the drive at all. It says something about "No drive attached to the FastTrak controller. Bios not installed/loaded" I have installed all drivers and stuff that came with the board but no luck. Is the driver loaded into the BIOS from the beginning or? How do i get the d*amn board to detect it again? I can´t even enter the bios setup (for the SATA controller.. ctrl+f) So .. i can´t really do .
    Help!

It says jumper (Factory only) so i don´t think u are supposed to jumper it. It´s master by default. At least that´s what seagate claims =) Or?

  • Freezing Games?

Ok, so now I've finally put my new computer together, but not without issues... At first it didn't start at all, so I moved the memory modules to the third and forth channels. Then it worked. But! I feel my computer is to weak to play games or something, but I don't think it has to do with the graphics or processor cuz once the game has finished memorizing all the textures or whatever it floats on pretty well... But this happens all the time, and it takes a very long time to load maps (HL2) compared to my other computer with similar components. Both computers have the regular PSU that comes with the case.
The one with issues is a:
    AMD64 3200+ s939
    MSI K8T800PRO Neo2-FIR
Gainward GF6800LE 128MB DDR (I don't know why I bought this one. Is GwGF FX5900 better?)
    Corsair Value Select 2x256MB DDR400 PC3200
    (Unbuffered, Non-Parity, CL2.5)
Samsung SATA Spinpoint P80 160GB using Promise FastTrak Controller
    PSU is 350W
    +3.3V 28A
    +5V 30A
    +12V 16A
(I know this isn't good but since I have a similar in my other computer I thought this wouldn't be a problem. But the other computer differs a bit in components, so maybe...)
    The other comp is a:
    AMD64 3000+ s754
Mobo, not sure right now but its a nForce 250GB (not dual channel though)
    Gainward GF FX5900 128MB
    2x256 DDR400 3200 (1st and 2nd slot of three)
    Samsung SATA Spinpoint P80 160GB
Can't look up the PSU right now but it is probably about the same as above.
I sure hope this has nothing to do with the graphics or the CPU. I'd like to know if the 6800LE is worse than the FX5900 though. THX!!!

I didn't wanna mention that cus ppl might start to think that's the only solution I can come up with
This PSU is also a good one (29amps on 12 v):

    Hi!
You will have to disable RAID ... Not sure but I think that you can disable that option in BIOS.  Go into BIOS and give it a try ...

  • 845 PE Max2 XP on a SATA Drive?

    Hello all,
I am finding alot of posts regarding installing XP to a SATA drive, but of course none of them actually addresses my issue, does anyone have any suggestions?
I am installing a 300Gb Sata drive to run windows and all of my software off of. I have set it up in the 'FastTrak' controller to show up. It shows up as a valid option to boot to in my BIOS and everything, but I get the old 'Windows could not find any hard drives on your system BS'. I tried the 'Press F6' thing, and had it install the Promise driver for XP, no dice.
I keep seeing people listing choices in the BIOS that I don't have. I only have two that even address SATA, and they are both enabled. I can't figure out how to tuurn the RAID off, which is another option that people suggest.
I thought that maybe flashing my BIOS would help, but NOW I get told not to flash from a floppy, after doing it that way forever. The problem is that I have NO OTHER WAY to flash the BIOS, since I can't get to my flippin' HDD until I install windows.
I have 2 SATA connectors on board, and I already had to buy a card just to run my SATA DVD burner, please don't tell me that these things are just basically window dressing...
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

Nah, I tried that already. BIOS sees it as a valid choice to boot to, and the FastTrack Array setup says that's it's a bootable array, and shows it to be the correct size, but Win XP doesn't see it at all.
The only two settings in my BIOS in regards to SATA are:
    Onboard Serial ATA IDE
    Load Serial ATA IDE BIOS
These are both checked, and unchecking them seems to do nothing more than disable the SATA stuff altogether, apparently to save time in the boot up...
ANy other suggestions? I can't really afford to go buy a new board, chip, and RAM right now, but this current one IS about 3 or 4 years old by now.

does K7n2 delta platinum has nforce or promise sata controller?

Currently in my device manager I have nVidia MCP2S Serial ATA Compatible Contoller (v2.6). Is there a better driver for this board than nVidias?
I think I have used Promise fasttrak controller earlier or I am imagining I'm not sure but
I think that my hdd was faster.
