S.M.A.R.T. Status: Failing - Can't Erase

One of my dives has a S.M.A.R.T. Status of Failing. This is backup drive, so there is already a direct copy of it. The drive is still under warranty but before I send it back, I want to try and reformat it. In disk utility, I am not able to erase the drive. Is this because of the S.M.A.R.T. Status? Is there a way around this? Can I temporarily turn off the S.M.A.R.T. readings?

The status report tells you the drive is failing. Don't try to reformat the drive. It's under warranty so get it replaced.
Since you've told us nothing about what you see in DU when your try to format the drive, we can't give you any input. However, the SMART status has nothing to do with formatting the drive, but if the drive is failing then that could be why. You could try the following:
Extended Hard Drive Preparation
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the number of partitions from the drop down menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.

My GF's PB 12" started getting slow on disk access, so I - suspecting a hard disk failure was impending - checked SMART monitor status, and all seemed fine. Just the same, I made a full backup using SuperDuper.
Now, two weeks later, the drive has failed. Booting from the SD backup, and using Disk Utility to investigate the internal drive shows it as "failing", and the helpful advise is to get the data off as soon as possible. Unfortunately I can't mount the drive...
What is the best way to proceed? Should I just give up, and contact a data recovery service straight away, or is there a better way?

Hello! If you backed up what you thought was an ailing drive didn't you backup your important data every day? Seriously though if it's really important I'd probably check out DATARESCUE. Tom

Powerbook G4 HD SMART Status: Failing

My powerbook G4 (1.5GHZ, 1GB RAM, OS 10.3.9)recently runs very slowly, sometimes freezed up during power off process. I checked the activity monitor to see none program hogging the cpu and memory, There are about 37GB free space on the hard drive. Checked the Disk Utility and saw the SMART status: Failing in red letters. Can anyone tell me if that is the sign the HD is going to die soon? If I used the install CDs to reinstall very thing, it will fix the problem or not? Or I just need a new HD? Luckly I was able to backup everything on my Mac to my desktop. Thx

Welcome to the Apple discussions.
That means that it's time to replace the hard drive, as it will fail shortly due to a hardware failure. If you want more detail on what is failing, install Smart Utility from Volitans.
New hard drives are cheap ... good source is Newegg.com, as they have many user reviews, good prices, good service. I've bought drives from them for years, and can recommend them. You'll want a parallel ATA interface 2.5" hard drive. Can't use a serial ATA (SATA) interface hard drive.

Httpd service does not start- shows status FAILED

Seems like your system is not configured correctly.
Are you using the correct user (the same that is the owner of the HTTP software)?
Is there already another process running on the port?
What is the output in the Apache logfiles?

Could not send notification 65569 (status 'FAILED')

Customize Workflow runs with 2006 error - only happen in the morning
We have created a customize workflow which works a bit funny here:
When we first run the workflow in the morning, it ends up with this error:

Error Message 2006: Could not send notification 65569 (status 'FAILED') to 'CONTRACT SERVICES'.
Error Stack WF_MAIL.GetDocContent(PO_DETAILS_BUYER)
Then, thinking of some problem might happend to the workflow mailer, we run the standard workflow, e.g. PO Approval. It runs successfully and send out the notification email. So, we then run the customise workflow again, and this time it works, no error has been generated as above.
The funny thing is, this had happened more than a week, where every morning I have to somehow run a standard workflow (normally I just create a new PO and send for approval), and got my customize workflow run successfully.
Can someone highlight what's going wrong here?
Is that some setup or soemthing that contribute to this problem?

The notifications are defined in the workflow but they do use a document type attribute (we send a table of data "Job", "Job Name", "Amounts").
We have changed the database packages a lot and that created many problems afterwards so we minimized when we make those changes and we restart everything (database, IAS Server) afterwards.

Error- Update Bdoc status failed- R3AD_Accounting

Hi ,
We are trying to replicate service order from CRM to r/3, after saving a service order in SMW01 it shows error "No r/3 upload"
In SMQ2 there is a queue R3AD_Accounting with status SYSFAIL stuck with the error message "Update BDoc status failed - BDoc not found"
In R3AC1 the object Accounting does not have any entries for tables or initial flow context.
Please let me know where we can maintain the entries for this Adapter object-Accounting.

Try releasing the queue, might be a temporary problem.
If not, check out the lockings in transactions sm13 (or sm12: I'm not sure).

Percent Complete: 100; Status: Failed

I just upgraded machines and so had to reinstall my Pro apps including Compressor 3.0.3. Now when I use Motion 3.0.2 -> File -> Export Using Compressor and then launch the Compressor jobs they each fail. When I look at the Status from the Batch Monitor it says, "Percent Complete 100; Status: Failed" and the corresponding log entry is:

The motion file was copied over for rendering properly but there is no resulting movie file. This is true across multiple shots. What might have caused this from a fresh install of Pro apps on the new iMac (10.5.2)?

I've found that I can get a movie file with an uncompressed 10-bit option but not 8 bit also. Why would this be? (The initial compression that keeps failing is H.264.)

ITunes Diagnostic - IPOD status failed

My iTunes is no longer recognising my Ipod (60Gb photo), with the Diagnostic check showing that the Ipod Connection status failed. I have tried EVERY hint, tip, advise and rumour to get my Ipod working again, but it is still a $500 paper weight.
My Ipod is not recognised on iTunes.
My Ipod does show up on Windows as drive e:, but I can't access it. When I click on the Ipod icon, it comes up with an i/o error.
Any advise please before I thrown this thing into the bin.

This is not how you force disk mode.
First, hold the MENU and SELECT (Center) buttons until you see the Apple logo to reset the iPod. Then, while the apple logo is displayed, hold the Play/Pause and SELECT buttons.
This should enter the iPod into disk mode.
I'm not sure where you're going with this Disk Mode recommendation, but I guess I would recommend trying to restore it from this stage.

Addon Status Failed

I have created a small addon in SAP B1 2005 SP01 and register the addon using ard and exe and SAP run my addon and it work fine but in addon manager I get my addon status failed. I have also tried B1DE for creating addon installer but the error still persists.

Yes this is a problem, for sort out this problem, when you are creating installer for your addon you can open the CustomInstallerClass.vb under customerLibrary in your installer project.

Error on install: Performance counter registry hive consistency check - Status:Failed

Hi, I'm tryng to install sql server 2008 in win vista and in the System Configuration Check, item: Performance counter registry hive consistency check has the status FAILED all the others items has PASSED and the setup stops here theonly option is CANCEL. Thus anyone knows the possible problem and resolution to this?

There is another post discussing the same issue as yours. The subject of post is:

Please refer that post and see if it resolves the issue. The bottom line is that you need to rebuild the perfmon counter, correct the bad registry key hive, and then you can install SQL Server 2008.
If the reference of post doesn’t resolve the problem, please use “regedit.exe” to export the following registry key hive to a file, and then post the file here.
“HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Perflib”
Once I get the file, I will try to rebuild the perfmon counter for you.
The tool “regedit.exe” usually exports registry keys to files with extension “.reg”. If you post the file, please rename it to the extension “.txt” so that it can reach to the forum.

I really don't want to go without it but I dont want to have to purchase a new one. The battery life is abysmal, and I am reluctant to upgrade my ios system to ios8 because all I ever see are complaints about upgrades killing the battery. I am still on ios6. When I upgraded my macbook pro (which is now DEAD) the battery got worse.
I am just sick of it. I called apple about my itouch battery and the help was terrible. All they were telling me to do was do a restart and UPGRADE TO THE LATEST IOS TO SEE IF THAT SOLVES THE BATTERY PROBLEM. They would not even tell me what to do if that would not work. Very rude.I kept asking and I finally had to find out myself through my own research that they cant replace the battery; instead they send you a refurbished ipod. They never told me that on the phone and they kept giving me the run around when I kept asking them what I should do if the IOS upgrade did not work or made the battery worse. I have a charger that I sometimes use plugged in to the ipod ( not all the time, I know that is bad for the battery) and I thought my battery life should be better than it is because I sometimes use it on the charger ( it should save the battery).

With the introduction of oim 9.1.0.2, the Offline-Line Provisioning attribute was added to the Resource Object. You are trying to import the connector into an environment that is out of date. The solution to this is to open up the XML file, and cut out the XML tag within your resource object for OBJ_OFFLINED and then it should work. But the next issue you are going to run into is most likely the connector version is not supported in your version so it might not work.

Disk Utility is reporting a fatal hardware error-S.M.A.R.T. status failing. Is there hope?

OS 10.5.8 on a 1.8 GHz Power PC G5. Installed Western Digital WD1002FAEX as a second internal hard drive. I also installd the jumper needed to slow HD down for this computer. Initialized and formated the HD was able to back up a large iPhoto file and am still able to acceass the file from the new HD. Now Disk Utility is reporting a fatal hardware error-S.M.A.R.T. status failing. Is there hope?

Is that on your first drive or the new one???
Only experience I had with SMART warning was that in less than 48 hrs it was dead for good.
