S/MIME Capabilities in Blackberry Z10 - Blackberry Enterprise Server

Hello,
I haven't received any answers regarding my questions so I decided to repost it. Could someone from Blackberry explain why RIM chose to change a client-based solution like S/MIME and use as a server-based feature under Blackberry Enterprise Server?
Answers like "because we have been doing it all the time" is not what I am looking for and it should not be an answer from a security-conscious company like RIM.
Thank you,

Hello,
Given the wording of your question and thereby just to set your expectation...please review this information (which is at the top of every page on this site):
So, while you may get lucky with a response from a BlackBerry representative (from time to time, they do drop by), you should not be expecting a formal nor authoritative response via this site (the Ts and Cs also confirm that, even when a BB person does respond, it is not to be taken as BlackBerry authoritative).
Good luck!

  • Blackberry Z10 Deletes everything.

Hey guys, I'm sorry for even writing about this, but it's driving me crazy. This phone is what I use for work and it has the most important texts and emails I could ever have. Working with the elderly, I receive texts about them, saying if they need someone to visit them at a time, so the texts are crucial. Unfortunately, for the second time within a week, my phone has deleted absolutely all my texts, emails and calls. Not only that, but it also freezes all the time and it can be very annoying. I went to O2 about it, talking to a family friend about it and be said he doesn't know why it does that as he said it's up to date. There are no updates available and I need to know how to stop this. If any questions are needed to be answered I may have late replies as I'm working today, but I'll be sure to answer them all.

I have the same behaviour...see below

  • Blackberry Z10 Enterprise Support

    Hi,
In our company currently most people use blackberry 9900 or other with OS7. We wanted to upgrade to Blackberry Z10, however for some reason being told the current BB servers they have don't support the BB10. I am very skeptical to this being the case as don't the person is well knowledged. Could you please check or confirm that BB10 will work with the same servers that support BB7 or OS7. Thanks.

Z10 will work on BES 10 whcih is free but you have to pay for BDS CALs at about 100 USD
It needs to be on a separate server than current BES 5.x or older.
Also you can convert current CALs to BDS CALs for free.

Purchase your BlackBerry Z10 with the new BlackBerry 10 operating system today at Best Buy! The BlackBerry Z10 features a gorgeous 4.2” display (1208x768 resolution) 356 ppi. An 8MP rear camera with capability to shoot 1080p video. A 1.5GHz dual-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and an expandable memory card slot. Here are some sweet BlackBerry 10 features:
BlackBerry Balance: Switch between personal and enterprise profiles at the flick of a finger, so you can carry one phone instead of a personal and business phone. The enterprise profile lets users securely access the enterprise’s network and access only those apps approved by the enterprise, while the personal profile runs simultaneously.
BlackBerry Flow: Move seamlessly from app to app and feature to feature by swiping, making it unnecessary to go to the home screen to switch apps.
BlackBerry Peak: Push an app to one side to view the content of the BlackBerry Hub, which aggregates incoming messages from email, social networks, etc. into one screen view.
BlackBerry ScreenShare: Those using BlackBerry’s IM service can switch to a video call by swiping, and the ScreenShare feature lets users share what’s on their screen — from pictures to PowerPoint presentations — with other BlackBerry 10 users, with the presenter in control of what appears on other phones’ screens.
BlackBerry Remember: Toss documents, emails, web links and the like into the same folder for future reference.
Time Shift: Captures a person’s image over a few milliseconds so the user can choose the best shot.

  • TTY (Q90D) not compatible with BlackBerry Z10

Please fix this.  I purchased a TTY machine (Q90D) for a deaf friend to use and it will not function properly on the Z10.  I called the TTY company which makes this product and they concluded I was doing everything right, but that the BlackBerry Z10 (turns out) is the culprit here as it  is not completely compatible with the Q90D although the machine is cellular compatible.  I say not completely because one time during the test I wrote hello and they were able to read that at the other end, but at no time did I receive any written information/message/text from them.  I'm hoping that someone from BlackBerry support will read this and look into this matter for me.  At the moment I'm very disappointed as my friend is not able to communicate with his parents who are old and do not have a computer, nor a cell phone.  Thank you in advance for your support.  Sincerely, Alan.
P.S.  Been using OS Version 10.1.0.1880

BES 10 is free and you can convert your existing BES CALs for free too for a limited time

  • Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync not working in Mobile Network – Blackberry Z10

Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync not working in Mobile Network – Blackberry Z10
I have set-up office email account in Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync this work only over office Wi-Fi not working outside of office Wi-Fi range. When I back to office all new e-mail loaded automatically. I have no problem with yahoo email setup in the same Z10 hand set work in both Wi-Fi and Mobile network. I have data plan with my carrier. Both emails were working in my previous Blackberry hand set Bold 9900. But with this New Z10 this become a problem
What could a the problem and I need help please

The URL you provided https://... does require SSL as it has a "s".
Have you tested the server OMA setup with a notebook or desktop (https://webmail.domain.com/OMA)?
You should receive a login prompt for username & password following by an Inbox listing of messages.
We used this step to verify server setup before configuring an iPhone. Lastly, we made certain that connectivity would work from outside or within our company by doing the following:
    1) created A record for webmail.domain.com to a public IP that route through the firewall on 443 to the Exchange server's private IP - this handles external traffice
    2) added an internal DNS record for webmail.domain.com to the private IP of the Exchange server.
This ensures that webmail.domain.com sync's to exchange from outside or from within the Enterprise.

  • What Communication Is Encrypted on BlackBerry Z10?

Is it only the BlackBerry Enterprise Server traffice?

Appreciate the story, but that doesnt help john.
My question is, what is other data on Blackberry Z10?

  • Importing Certificates into Blackberry Z10 Key Store.

Currently, on the development network, we have stood up a BES10 server with a few Blackberry Z10 phones deployed. Using BES10, we are able to push the Root CA certificate for our developmental CA. We are currently unable to import the client's certificates (identity, encryption or signing) in *.p12 or *pfx format onto the device. We have tried numerous methods with limited success. Originally, we emailed a certificate using the work email exchange server and were able to view the certificates on the BB device. We are even able to select "Import certificate," submit the correct password and are presented with a messages stating "Certificate successfully imported." However, looking at the trust store or the S/MIMIE settings, none of the client's certificates are avaliable.
After some research, we followed the steps highlighted in tech support listed at http://docs.blackberry.com/en/smartphone_users/deliverables/47561/als1342708099072.jsp. After following the instructions on screen, selecting the appropriate certificates to import and presenting the correct PIN, the device attemps to import the certs. The device then states "0/3 certificates succesfully imported" and the process has failed.
Is there a log file avaliable to see what is causing the import to fail or is there an additional step we are missing? Any support would be helpful, thank you in advance.

    Hey Shah_jeet,
Welcome to the BlackBerry® Support Community Forums.
Are you importing the certificate using a USB connection or using a Wi-Fi connection?
    Thanks.

  • Company not supporting Blackberry Z10

I'm very disappointed.  I was looking forward to the Z10.  bought it yesterday.  But after spending several hours calling into IT to get it activated on the enterprise server, I learned that my company is not supporting the Z10 and doesn't know if and when it will support it.  So i had to return it and by an iphone. I heard the same thing about another company tonight.  Doesn't look good for Blackberry.  And i loved the phone.

As the Exec Director for our IT area with 30,000 clients, I can tell you it's no simple thing to offer BES support for these devices yet.  It may seem like a simple thing when people have been buying BB phones for years and activating them on the BES servers, but you have to understand that the BES 10 server is a COMPLETELY new platform.
We have been testing since the day the BES software came out - we had to build all new servers, install the new software as it was going through name changes and configuration changes over the first couple of weeks.  We have 11 issue tickets registered with BlackBerry currently to address issues we've had configuring the software for our environment.  And we have very advanced support staff that have worked with BES technologies for nearly 10 years.
We have basic functionality working - I'm one of the first pilot users on the sytem and it seems to be working okay, but you really need to give it some time as this is similar to introducing a Windows 8 phone into an evnrionment that's never had it before - new phone, new software, new server platform, new issues...
We plan to have our service available for production in about a month - and we're being very aggressive because we believe this is the best mobile platform out there for a corporate environment.  Even with all the issues we've had, we still firmly believe that...just be patient!  I really hope all the large corporate envrionments are taking the same approach.

  • Blackberry Z10 USB Mass Storage issues

My Blackberry Z10 doesnt show up on my PC as a Mass Storage Device, and if I go into the settings on the phone the setting to turn it on only applies to the SD card. I have Blackberry Link on my PC installed, but putting movies and videos onto the Z10 this way is so much harder than simply dragging and dropping if it simply popped up as a drive on my laptop. Ive read the manual online and seen that my Z10 should pop up as a Drive on my computer, one drive for SD card and one for the main storage, so where am i going wrong, why cant i find this drive on my computer. One point to note was that before i installed Blackberry link, the first time i plugged the phone into my laptop it popped up as a drive on my laptop with links to download Blackberry, but i dont think it was the real drive, now i cant get the drive anywhere, it doesnt come up when i plug the phone in or if i click computer it isnt in the list of drives. HELP would be much appreicated! Thanks

    Hi,

"There are 3 possible causes for this issue, and these are as follows:
The BlackBerry 10 device is not currently enrolled on a BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 server.
The shared network drives have not been configured in the BlackBerry Work Drives application.

  • Faulty Devices - Blackberry Z10

Our company recently renewed the corporate mobile phone contract with Maxis and we received Blackberry Z10 Smart Phones as free device for the plan that we signed up.
We received 58 units of Blackberry Z10 in June 2014, out of which to-date, several units (40%) have proven to be faulty and warranty claims were made. The claims were handled by IXSUN SDN BHD – Blackberry Service Centre at Tropicana City Mall.
The type of claims varies from hardware reset, faulty battery, keypad not working, system hang etc…
Our business is IT based and we depend a lot on the Smart Phone, accessing to e-mails and as 80% of our employees are Consultants, they should always be reachable on phone. The faulty devices cost the company additional expenses (admin costs – mileage and toll) and a waste of billable time. We are extremely disappointed and unhappy with the quality of device sent and demand that all the units be replaced with a new batch of devices – all 58 units in total.
We are also surprised with your Service Centre policy whereby no hardcopy is given as supporting document for the warranty claim. Only Acknowledgement Job Card is given and upon receiving the repaired phone, the form is retained by the Service Centre and for record, we are requested to take photo of the form instead!
Please find enclosed, copies of the photo shots taken of the forms, last batch of phones sent in for warranty claim last week.
This is a serious allegation and do revert with your solution to our problem within 14 days of the date of this letter, failing which we will cancel the corporate plan with Maxis and return all the phones back to you and seek monetary compensation for the breach of contract in furnishing faulty devices.
Should you have any queries, please contact Ms Sue at 03 56369016 ext 138 or 012 3242137.

This is a volunteer run forum we do not have anything to do with BB.
