S&OP on Hana, IBP and BPC

Hi All,
can some one please help me in understanding the difference between S&OP on HANA, IBP and BPC and how they are differentiated from SAP APO?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks,
Kishore

Story started around 2012 with S&OP Hana until version 3.0. Following marketing definition and Gartner group vocabulary, this application has now change its name to IBP S&OP 4.0. Nothing changes within S&OP except improvements with 4.0.
IBP is a new family of application in SCM under Hana
BCP belongs to analytic family, not much appropriate for SCM Concern.
APO is the previous APS of SAP that is still supported until 2025. Say a new customer needs SCM advance planning, better going IBP nowaday but nothing wrong with APO neither

  • How to connect an non-hana-ewm with an Hana-ECC and vice versa

    Hello,
for our migration project planning I am wondering how to connect EWM on SAP with ECC on Hana and vice versa.
As it is, both systems are (productive) on non - hana with actual SAP-Release and have to be migrated.
The background of my question: we may be not able do the "big bang" thing to migrate ERP ECC607 and EWM (with special Add-Ons) at one point to Hana (DMO) and therefore may need an interim solution. I checked ETL and LTS as "connectors" but they - from my point of view -  are one-way solutions from EWM to ECC/Hana -not bidirectional.I Found some questions concerning the same theme in the net but no solution at all till now..
How about BODS ? (Didnt work with it yet)
    Best regards,
       Ronald

Great. So I have to either install OS X, or buy a new mcahine. Can OS X run on a G3 without grinding to a halt?
By the way, I cannot get the iPod to even mount when connected via firewire. The USB/firewire PCMCIA card does not have drivers for OS 9. I thought that this support was built into OS 9. The USB port works (although the iPod will not mount when connected via USB either). Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • SAP BW 7.3 and BPC 7.5 NW

    Hi,
We are currently using BPC 7.5 Netweaver with BI 7.01
We are now planning to migrate our BI to BW 7.3. We had earlier heard that BPC 7.5 does not work or is not supported with BW 7.3
Kindly help and let me know if BW 7.3 and BPC 7.5 work together. Is there any specific support pack on BW or BPC that will make them work together.
    Please help.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Amit

    Hi Amit,
In case you still need assistance on this subject, BPC 7.5 SP09 is supported on NW & BW 7.3.
You will need to install the add-on CPMBPC 753 now available in the SMP.

  • Visual Studio and BPC 10.0

    Hi all,
I'm a relatively new Planning Consultant and on a new project have the requirement of having an input screen for the allocation of time, for an individual, against a project.
Examples of the required input are:
    - Allocate Nick Carter, to Project ABC, for 28 November 2011, Full Day (8hours).
    - Allocate Joe Bloggs, to Project XYZ, from 28th November to 1st February, Full Days
Has anyone used Visual Studio to create an input screen, and maybe used a drag and drop design that integrates well with BPC.
There is also a requirement for Versions, i.e. Scenario 1, Scenario 2, which allow different planning options.
The BPC input screen, even with the Web UI 10.0 is limited, especially due to the way it presents data as numbers as opposed to text.
Any feedback or advice would be much appreciated!

Hi Sabine, thank you for the replies!
We are using BPC 10.0 for NetWeaver, and not MS.
The reassurance that it is technically possible if good for our Project as we can start to move forwards with the Bluerprinting. We are going to use NetWeaver Gateway to connect Visual Studio to SAP (BW and BPC).
We have done some mock-ups for Excel but have come accross some significnat limitations, some of which are column limits, and how we need the input cell, e.g. 8 (hours), to Project Name.
[The current solution looks like this|http://i44.tinypic.com/1o7hjr.jpg], and the way that we thought BPC Excel could look is like this: [BPC Excel Possible Design|http://www.freeimagehosting.net/newuploads/fef8f.jpg]
I have also found information that there are row and column limitations on excel that will restrict the volume of data we are required to show / input at any one time. (I found information [here|Maximum Number of Columns Exceeded Message; under Sakthi Jaganathan's post)
I'm not sure what you mean by Business Object Connector. From internet research it suggests it's a BOBJ connector for BI4 which we will be using for reporting.
Thanks again for your comments, you don't realise how much it helps us!

  • Difference between EPM Add-in for Excel and BPC 10.0?

    Hi Forum,
I'm currently researching an upgrade to version 10.0.  We're currently running BPC 7.0 for MS.  I'm confused at the moment, because I'm not sure if/what the difference is between the EPM Add-In and BPC 10.0.  Can someone answer this?
I'm also not understanding the future roadmap for BPC 10.0 and beyond.  It appears to me that an attempt to merge Business Objects functionality and BPC functionality into one product/suite of products is what is happening, but I could be wrong about that too.  Can someone expand on this as well?
    Thanks,
    Mike

The EPM10 Client (aka add-in) is the unified Excel interface for a subset of EPM products (Profitability and Cost Management, Financial Consolidations, Strategy Management and BPC).  Clients did not like having different report writing paradigms in all of these applications, so the EPM10 Client was developed utilizing a technology called Extended Analytics Analyzer mashed with some of the BPC reporting functionality from BPC7.x to provide one stop shopping for accessing data in EPM applications.  Additionally, the EPM10 Client can be used in many cases to report directly against native BW cubes or any other source that supports an ODBO connection.
BPC10 is the planning and consolidations application with the code engine to support the application functionality.  If you purchase/upgrade to BPC10, the EPM10 Client is made available as an additional download to complete the package.  In BPC10, the EPM10 Client is used both for reporting as well as for write back to the database for end users.
A new roadmap with BPC10 and beyond is just being finalized.  Look for announcements around this in the next few weeks.

  • Creating Logic and modeling for SAP BW datasource in SAP HANA views and SLT

    Hi to all,
    I have small question.
We have BW system and SAP ECC as source system and to get data from SAP ECC source system we are using SAP ECC Standard data source.
Now we required to, create modeling in SAP HANA by use of HANA View and get data from SAP ECC source table via SLT.
So we can replicate same modeling,as we done in SAP BW system.
But  my question is that, as SAP ECC standard data source hit multiple table and do run-time calculation, before sending to SAP BI.
How we can derives such calculation and logic, in our HANA studio, because as we know in SLT data transformation can be done in limited way also
in view we can not drive such logic via SQL script ?.
Is there any way we can do such modeling and logic in SAP HANA ?
    or
is there any standard document for this type of case, which we can use ?
Note: We don't want to use SAP DS or DXC for data loading to HANA, as  we want it in more real time.
    Regards
    Pavneet Rana

    Thanks for reply,
As SLT is based on ABAP, so we can write complex logic in it.
But if we talk about SAP ECC standard data source, they have complex logic, based on multiple table.
So we need to write code from scratch in SLT to derive same result. but it will be huge time consuming , and required good ABAP skills, also it will lead to bug in code.
Also it will reduce the real time performance of SLT, due to complex logic.
Second option is procedure via SQL script, which is again huge effort in term if logic and can lead to error/bug in logic.
Does we have any other way or architecture to do this is very simple way, with high performance and less error issue.

  • Benefits/ Limitations when we use  SAP HANA Extended and Standard products.

    Hi All,
We are going to purchase SAP HANA media. Please let me know what are the benefits/ limitations when we use  SAP HANA Extended and Standard products.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Vishall

    Hello,
please check Master Guide (page 9 - chapter 1.6 Software Components)
    https://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700000604552011
There you can find edition comparison and detailed description.
    To extract the short summary:
Platform edition = SAP HANA Database + Studio + Client + Host Agent + Information Composer
Enterprise edition = (Platform edition) + LT Replication Add-on (SLT) + LT Replication Server (SLT) + SAP BO Data Services
Enterprise extended edition = (Enterprise edition) + Sybase Adaptive Server Enterprise + Sybase Replication Server + Sybase Replication Server Agent + SAP HANA load controller
It depends on what licenses you already have and how do you intends to use HANA.
Platform edition = ETL via BO Data Services (you already have license for BO Data Services)
Enterprise edition = SLT and/or BO Data Services (including licenses)
Enterprise extended edition = all replication technologies

  • Managing CAL ABAP on HANA instance and removing the secondary windows instance?

When you setup the ABAP on HANA CAL instance with AWS you get two AWS instances. One which is the ABAP on HANA server and one which is a Windows system holding copies of the development tools, etc.
I never use this second instance as I log on from my own pc/laptop; so its just wasting money. Can I simply delete it from the AWS console. The CAL does not allow me to delete it on its own. If I do delete that instance can I still manage it with CAL or am I on my own with AWS from that point?
    Regards,
    --Jason.

    Hi Jason,
SAP CAL keeps track of what happens to the instances in your AWS account, the status is polled every other minute or so. Simply suspending or terminating it could have a severe effect on the operations in CAL.
Have you thought about starting the Windows instance on a smaller (probably too small) instance type which costs just a couple of cents? CAL cannot track if the SAP system in the instance is functional or not, CAL just checks the status of the container. So you could start the Windows instance on a 512MB machine ....
I know that this is not what you was aiming for, but it will probably solve the costs issue in the first place quickly.
    Regards,
      Hannes

  • SAP HANA : differences and costs

    Dear All,
HANA is designed to enable faster ways to process data from business applications in real time, without impacting the underlying source system. I believe HANA will bring new and interesting opportunities to SAP. Which are the most important technical differences between HANA, BWA and BOEA? Which are the cost differences?
    Regards,
    Bob

    Bob,
    Here are my thoughts:
HANA: Here's my recommendation for the best in-class next-generation BI solution. Deploy HANA as a standlone server with two logical system partitions. 1st partition for standalone HANA modeling and 2nd partition to host HANA DB for BW 7.3. This way you get to exploit HANA performance for both SAP BW system as a database and also use the HANA power for standalone non-BW (ECC and flat-file) application that need good performance.
BWA: I would not recommend a BWA solution for a new BW implementation. Given the fact that SAP has announced recently that BWA 7.3 will be the last release for BWA. However, if there is a critical BW application in production that needs better performance, then BWA will be a quick fix solution. The cost difference between an SAP HANA solution and a BWA solution is narrowing down quickly. I do not want to go into details of cost.
BOEA (aka BOE Accelerator Version): Guys, there is some confusion here. BOEA does not support BWA acceleration for non-BW data source data. Meaning that if you are using BOEA (accelerated version) - you can load non-SAP and Non-BW data but can not accelerate the data using BWA unless the data is put in an SAP BW info provider (cubes,etc..). Only BW info providers in a BOEA solution can exploit BWA acceleration. Other data (non-SAP and Non-BW ) can only exploit on indexing capability of BOE internally but not the BWA. BWA portion of BOEA is specific to BW in the backend.

  • SSM and BPC - Implementation Options and Concerns

    Hi,
I am hoping that someone can assist with some BPC/SSM implementation queries.
Until recently, our client was intending to implement SEM-CPM and SEM-BPS. Now, our client is considering the implementation of SSM and BPC. This raises a number of questions with regards to these products and their integration with Netweaver 7.0. Kindly see my questions/comments below:
    <b><u>BPC</u></b>
<b>1.</b> Our client intends to implement BPC 5.1 immediately and then migrate to BPC 7.0 once the integration with BW is provided for. Until BPC 7.0 becomes available, it was assumed that BPC could exchange data with SAP BW by means of a flat file export/import process. From a technical perspective, is this assumption correct? Would you recommend this approach? Are there other ways to enable this data exchange?
<b>2.</b> In order to allow for effective data exchange between BW and BPC, we will need to replicate the BW cubes in BPC and update these cubes with the required BW master and meta data. In this case, I understand that data integrity and synchronization between BW and BPC is very difficult to maintain. What are your views in this regard? What steps can be taken to improve this sychronisation process?
<b>3.</b> SAP has committed to provide BPC/BW integration next year. Considering this, do you recommend that we begin with a BPC 5.1 implementation now or do you recommend that we wait until the integration is provided in version BPC 7.0.?
    <b><u>SSM</u></b>
<b>1.</b> Does PilotWorks exist in Unix and what data base must it use?
<b>2.</b> What is the maturity of the mapping tool used to map SAP to Pilot Works?
<b>3.</b> Is there any data that must reside in Pilot Works or can all data be centralised   in BW?
<b>4.</b> Is there any workstation setup necessary to run Pilot Works off a desktop?
    <b><u>General CPM</u></b>
<b>1.</b> Even though we are still deciding which planning/balanced scorecard tool is ideal, we intend to begin immediately with the BW data modeling process. Is it reasonable to assume that the eventual decision to implement BPC or SSM will NOT have a significant impact on the data model from a functional or technical perspective? Obviously, we do not wish to build a data model that will be incompatible with BPC/SSM or that will place limitations on BPC/SSM functionality.   If BPC/SSM will impact data modelling, what points should we take into consideration when preparing our data model in BW? For example, what data locking issues exist in BPC and how will this impact our BW data modelling?
I would greatly appreciate any assistance/views.
    Thanks,
    Ross

    Hi Ross
Tried to answer your questions on BPC/CPM, my collegues in SSM will answer your SSM queries:
    BPC

Yes this is a right approach.

In this case, I understand that data integrity and synchronization between BW and BPC is very difficult to maintain. What are your views in this regard? You can use informatica with whom SAP have a OEM agreement, to facilitate this process
    3. SAP has committed to provide BPC/BW integration next year. Considering this, do you recommend that we begin with a BPC 5.1 implementation now or do you recommend that we wait until the integration is provided in version BPC 7.0.?
You should start with 5.1 implementation and later migrate to 7.0. With that you can start using the functionality and only the platform layer will change later
    General CPM
    1. Even though we are still deciding which planning/balanced scorecard tool is ideal, we intend to begin immediately with the BW data modeling process. There will not be any compromises on functionality and therefore you should be good to have any data model within BPC model

  • _Patch level in SAP HANA Note and _Build No in SAP HANA

    Hello Hana Gurus!
I need to know where can I find the patch level in the SAP HANA and SAP HANA Notes
For example, if I want to apply a note
    http://service.sap.com/sap/support/notes/1964428
    there is specified:
    Software Component
    Support Package
    Patch Level
    SAP HANA DATABASE 1.00
    SP069
    2
    SP070
    0
Ok. I read a lot of sources and understand the following:
To know the HANA Studio version:
    Help->About SAP HANA Studio.
    It will be like
    Version: 1.0.27
    Build id: 201205021925 (361805)
Here 1.0.27 means -> 1.0 version and Revision is 27 and Build No is : 361805
Re: From Studio, how to know the  HANA DB Version
That is, if we apply 1964428 note, the system is upgraded to SP069 and SP070. Is that correct?
But what Patch Level means in this (and some other) note (value 2 and 0)?
Where I can check Patch Level in the HANA?
And, what are figures Build No indicate
    UPD:
Here Re: Where we can check Patch leveles in HANA? referred to a certain table "M_HOST_CONFIGURATION". But in my system it does not exist. or tell me where to find it?
Message was edited by: Tom Flanagan

    Hi Kirisetti,
    please findanswers in italics
    1)
I understand the database version and the studio version is not the same thing. But why do they match my system (see picture)? Or still the same thing?
By the way, to see the version of the database I used table SYS.M_DATABASE
A revision is released with all HANA components are part of the revision release and not just HANA DB server. So it is always ideal that you have all HANA components on same version as in your case. However is is technically feasible that you are usinga older version of Studio to connect to a newer version of HANA DB server. so Help-> About Studio would give you version of the studio and "select version from SYS.M_DATABASE" gives you version of the HANA DB server.
    2)
and for the version and patch level
1.0.69.02 would mean HANA DB is on Revision 69 , patch 02
1.0.70.00 would mean HANA DB is on Revision 70
Soultion for the problem is to update your HANA DB to revision 69, patch 2 or Revision 70.
Did I understand correctly, if the note indicated Patch Level = 0, then we simply speak about updating to Revision, implying that no Patch Level? Or how it can be understood?
I'm assuming here you wish to know if you are downloading the right software for the update.
if there is a patch mentioned it is available as "Mantainence Revision <rev no>.<patch no>" for download and if there is no patch level mentioned(patch level = 0) they is avaliable as "Revision <rev no.>". Also update procedure for both Revision and patch is the same.
    3)
Did I understand correctly, the first figure in the Build number (Build id) indicates the Patch Level? How it is possible to interpret the Build number (Build id) more? These figures represent something?
This build number is something that comes out of build repositiory. HANA version mentioned in all notes and guide refer to just the Revision number and patch level currently. You can ignore the build number

    Hi Pragya,
Did you check : 1) Administrator Access while installing Microsoft C++ Runtime, 2) enough space on your disk, 3) try uninstalling the MS C++ old version 4) Empty Windows Temp folders
Also check if the environment variables are set right on your Windows machine.
