S-VHS to DV capture artifacting

Hi Folks, Happy New year to all,
I am capturing a video, [to make a DVD] shot in 1998 from S-VHS tape, playing out of a Panasonic NV-HS950 deck. I tried capturing through the Aja AVA HD10 into my Kona 3 but got fractured, broken, artifacting rubbish,[I am struggling with this device at present] so instead went through my Sony HVR25E deck and into FCP. Problem is when the video cuts to another shot the image artifacts over 25 frames, creating an unpleasant blockiness. This does not happen on every cut, just most of them. I have tried capturing to DV tape and then a clean firewire capture to FCP-same problem.
Is there a capture path to relieve this artifacting; the analog playback from the S-VHS deck is fine, just when digitized it artifacts.

Interesting explanation Bob, but I think I'm having some kind of field problem. I've been changing around the Sequence and Capture settings for the Kona 3 [in the AV settings in FCP], specifically the 625 25fps sets, I can get rid of the artifacting with the ProRes and the DV sets, but now the video does a blink, sort of squashes the frame top and bottom, 15 frames after the shot changes on three out of four shots.
This is all with the S-VHS deck connected to the AVAHD10 [set to component, Green cable carrying the video out of the deck], SDI out of the AVA to the Kona 3 via breakout box [audio embedded] and into FCP.
My AJA Control Panel is set receiving 625i25 and outputting the same digitally, I could give all the settings in the AJA panel if that would aid diagnosis?
