S-video and GeForce 8800

Hello! Been over this with my local Apple resaler and Apple over phone. I have recieved and tried with both the old modell and new modell og DVI to Video Adapter (MA026ZM/A and M9267G/A), and none of them give me no video. Any suggestions? The goal is to use one of my DVI ports to display movies, etc. on my old old Loewe television (PAL).

The DVI to Video Adapter only works with the ATI graphics card (and only on port 2). See table 2 of:
<http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Hardware/Conceptual/HWTechVideo/Articles/Videoimplementation.html#>
If you don't want to add an ATI card, you could use a DVI to VGA adapter with a VGA to video converter, such as

  • Problem with nvidia driver and GeForce 8800

    Hi,
I installed nvidia driver with guide on arch wiki.
But unluckily when i typed "startx", my monitor lost signal and i dont have any other option then restart computer.
This is not for the first time when it happened. I have exactly same problem in every other distribution.
I have GeForce 8800gts and LCD monitor Samsung SyncMaster 204b.
And there isnt problem with hardware because in MS Windows or with VESA driver it works fine.
    Here is mine Xorg.conf
    http://www.blankpage.ic.cz/xorg.conf
Please, have somebody any ideas how to make it works?

Your not the only one with nividia problems
But on a more serious note, have you tried all configuration steps outlined in the Arch Wiki?

  • GeForce 8800 Core Image issues finally worked out?

Getting ready to order a new Mac Pro, and deciding between the Radeon 2600 and GeForce 8800 I have been reading that for games the 8800 is smoking fast - but for normal work in Aperture/etc it's actuall slower than the Radeon. Also saw some people reporting issues playing back HD video on the 8800...
Have these issues finally been worked out? Is the 8800 working well for HD video, moving windows around without stuttering, core image, etc...??
Thanks in advance for the replies...

I'm quite sure the 8800 will do well as a gaming card under windows. But if you use the computer mainly for CS3, Aperture etc, then I think you should go for the cheaper 2600 and then upgrade.
Barefeats has recently tested the ATi 4870x2 and the GTS280 under Vista and the former is significantly stronger. http://www.barefeats.com/harper19.html.
Note that in that article it is said that ATi "has optimized their Mac Edition drivers and firmware for the Radeon 2600 XT and 3870 so that they run Core Image effects much faster than comparable nVidia cards including the GeForce 8800 GT and Quadro FX 5600." This was news to me but perhaps it answers your question in part at least.
I have not seen any solutions for the HD video playback issue. I'm using the 8800 but don't do HD so I have no personal experience of that.
Btw note Barefeats finding that a 2,8 Mac Pro is as strong as a 3,2 Mac Pro for graphics work.

  • NVidia GeForce 8800 GT *and* GeForce GTX 285 in a Mac Pro?

    Hi,
my Mac Pro came with an nVidia GeForce 8800 GT, and I've now bought an extra GeForce GTX 285 Mac Edition (for the Compute Level 1.3 double precision floating point capability in CUDA).
(Everything bought from the Mac Store)
I wasn't aware that I was expected to throw away the GeForce 8800 GT , what with the other three PCI-e slots being free.
The GTX 285 (max requirement: 204 W) requires two extra PCI-e power connectors. The 8800 GT (max: 110 W) uses one. There are only two available from the motherboard though.
So, *although I realize this isn't supported*, has anyone else managed to scrounge some current from somewhere else on the motherboard?
I'm only using one hard drive and one optical drive and no other PCI-e cards. Surely the power supply (around 1000 W ?) can supply the extra?
Does anyone know how much current the PCI-e extra power connectors are rated for?
    Thanks,
    colin

Search long enough and you may find...
    According to this
    http://www.playtool.com/pages/psuconnectors/connectors.html#pciexpress
The PCI-e slot can supply up to 75 W, whilst a 6 pin cable can provide another 75 W.
    So:
    2 PCI-e slots + 2 auxiliary 6-pin connector = 300 W
"Even with only two 12 volt lines the standard implementation of PCI Express power cables use large enough gauge wire and a good enough connector to provide much more than the three amps per wire required to provide 75 watts. Nonetheless, the 6 pin PCI Express power cable officially provides only 75 watts. *In all likelihood, however, real implementations of this power cable can provide far more than 75 watts.* "
    Hmmm

  • NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT and 10.5.7

The OpenGL problems with the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT video appear to be fixed in 10.5.7.
No screen artifacts, no screen redraw issue so far.

Very nice.  My 3d objects no longer turn white while painting on them or manipulating them, though painting into the surface appears to be considerably slower than it used to be.
edit: I have an m8600GT, but had OpenGL issues which are resolved nonetheless.

  • K9NGM3 how to enable both onboard video and video card NVidia GeForce 6600

My previous mainboard was K9NGM2 (GeForce 6150 onboard video) and I've used both onboard and external video at same time under Vista.
Now I've upgraded the mainboard and it's now a K9NGM3-FIH (with nVidia 7050 chip). Onboard graphic works as well if there is no external PCIe video card. When I plug an external one (GeForce 6600), internal one disappears. I both tried BIOS settings; primary card is Onboard / or PCIe. No luck!
If there is an external card, onboard video doesn't work at boot and under Vista. There is no Video graphic adapter named 7050 : ( When I unplug it then reboot there is the 7050 under device manager...
    What's wrong with them?
    Thanks.

when you have a stand alone video card, why would you want to use on board video at the same time? stand alone video card is much much better than those one on board.

  • 24" iMac GeForce 8800 GS Pixelated Display

I bought a refurb Spring 2008 24" iMac with the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS video card from the Apple online store almost a month ago now. Worked brilliantly until yesterday afternoon when the display suddenly went all pixelated, with a funny aqua coloured wash effect over parts of all windows, the menu bar and desktop. The desktop background image shadows are all pixely and blocky (as if it'd switched to 256 colours or resolution had suddenly reverted lower than default is the best way I can describe it). The drop shadows are all pixelated too and parts of the desktop background seem to pulse... It happens, sometimes a few minutes after a bootup, but usually almost immediately, booting from the internal disk and my external backup disk, from the install DVD, and also if I boot in safe mode. Given this I don't think it's a software or driver issue.
I've run hardware check from the supplied 10.5.4 DVD, both the short and the long runs, and it found nothing. If I shut it down and leave it for a while (like an hour or overnight) it'll come up and work fine for a few minutes, then the display will flash several black horizontal lines for a second or two and then the display will switch back to the pixelate/low res mode again. When it happens the Displays preference pane shows the correct 1920 X 1200 setting, millions of colours, and the Display Profile is set to iMac as it should be (and changing to another profile doesn't help).
It seems possibly temperature related as leaving it powered down for a while seems to fix it temporarily but the iStat Nano widget shows the CPU/GPU temps are only about 43-47C when it goes crazy, so it doesn't seem to be particularly high (and I'm usually only doing some web browsing when it happens, no games or videos playing or anything). The machine seems to work fine aside from the messed up display, I can launch apps and work with them when it's happening.
The machine came with 10.5.4 installed and I updated it to 10.5.6 via software update and used Migration Assistant to copy my user data and apps from my MacBook Pro.
I've reset parameter RAM and SMC with no change in behaviour. The only new software installed recently was the iPhone SDK about three days before it started playing up and I also installed Scribbles drawing program several hours before it started misbehaving (but I wasn't using Scribbles at the time it broke and I've since removed it with no change).
Has anyone seen this problem before? Is it a faulty graphics card as it appears or could it be something else given that hardware tests found no problems?

Wow, this is bizarre. I got home today and I have the exact same issue, except I have a mac mini, so it is obviously the original video card. I thought it must be that somehow the video card got damaged, but now I think whatever has caused your problem is related to mine.
I booted in safe mode and the video was clear, there are some hardly noticable artifacts when dragging a window but that is probably due to the safe mode driver. I really don't know what to think. Maybe the video card got messed up or maybe it is in the driver. But you have to admit that it seems beyond coincidence that we would both have the save video issue on almost the same day, even though we have different hardware setups, maybe something else is going on.
Please let us know what is response you get!
    Cheers.
    -Sam

  • Want to add Video and Graphic Card to my computer system

I Notice that one of the users' in the Apple discussion Board is Listed, (AndyO) he has help me many times in the Past and was succesful in my problrm solution, would he might be able to help me with this?
I had Purchased the Game Spore Creature Creator the Starter Kit which is just the Creature creator game and not the actual game itself. I wasn't able to install the the game on my computer because I don't have the right or not at all Video and Graphic Card install on my computer. I had Contacted the Company "EA" that puts out the Game Spore, this is what they said what the game requirements are: The minimum system requirements for Spore and Spore the Galactic Edition for Mac are as follows:
    * Mac OS X 10.5.3 Leopard or higher
    * Intel Core Duo Processor
    * 1024 MB RAM
    * At least 345 MB of hard drive space for installation, plus additional space for created creatures. (260 MB for the Trial Edition)
    * Video Card - ATI X1600 or NVidia 7300 GT with 128 MB of Video RAM, or Intel Integrated GMA X3100
This game will not run on PowerPC (G3/G4/G5) based Mac systems (PowerMac).
For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires at least: an Intel Integrated Chipset GMA X3100 or Dual 2.0GHz CPUs, or 1.7GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent
    Supported Video Cards
    ATI Radeon(TM) series
    * X1600, X1900, HD 2400, HD 2600
    NVIDIA GeForce series
    * 7300, 7600, 8600, 8800
    Intel(R) Extreme Graphics
    * GMA X3100
and that I need to upgrade my system. Basically I need; ATI Radeon 1600 or NVIDIA Geforce 7300 and a INTEL Extreme Graphic Video Card-GMA X3100, in order to be able to install and play this game. Since I already have this game, I would like to be able to upgrade my computer system which brings me to ask; does somone know or refer me to a web site that has and sells these Video and Graphic Card and supports for the Mini Mac?
Plus they say that I need a 1020 of MB of Ram, I Have already found that 1024 MB of Ram but I just need those Video and Graphic Cards for my computer system. I am adding my computer system Profile to my discussion board to show you what I have on my system, would you be able to tell me if I would be able to add these Video and Graphic card and the memory or Ram 1024 to my computer system?
Note: Here is a web site that I am looking at to add the 1024 MB of Ram to my computer system:

    Hi Trisha,
The only modern Mac's with video cards are the Mac Pro and Xserve (server) systems. They both are priced quite a bit higher than any Mac Mini.
Some systems, like the Mac Book Pro laptop can be ordered with different graphics cards, but that has be done when the system is built, as it is not replaceable once the system is built. To find out which systems, go to store.apple.com. For each system that you select, you can see if there's an option for a better video card.

  • Photoshop CS4 Issues with the NVIDIA GeForce 8800?

I have an Mac Pro Intel 2 x 2.8 GHz Quad-Core Xeon with 6GB RAM running OS X 10.5.5 and an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT driving two monitors.
I just installed Adobe Photoshop CS4 fresh from a factory CD.
When I perform a Distort -> Lens Correction or do a Free Transform to rotate an image an arbitrary amount, and then follow that with a resize (tried 133% and 166%), the image ends up with a pattern of gray plaid overlaid -- especially visible in the darkest shadows. The pattern appears only on the rotated layers of an image.
This pattern persists if I quit and restart Photoshop, BUT -- there's no pattern visible if I open the same image in Photoshop CS3. It only appears in CS4.
This is easy to reproduce -- I just tried it with an image I created in Photoshop at 5x7" at 240dpi and filled with solid black.
I dropped a Bug Report to Adobe, and they wrote back suggesting "This is most likely an issue with your video card driver."
Anybody else out there having this issue? Anyone with an identical setup want to test this?

I'm seeing what you are talking about when viewing at 200% and up on my 300dpi images. I'm thinking that its the new pixel grid overlay for dialing in the details on the image.
No, that's not it. I can see it at 100%, and only on images that have been rotated and resized.
In fact, yesterday I rotated one layer under an unrotated layer, and only the rotated layer showed the plaid pattern.
And it's not a simple grid -- it's a real plaid-like gray, almost like stretch marks.

  • IMovie08 has never worked for me, is it My NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT card???

My preinstalled copy of iMovie v 7.1.1 will not startup, the dock icon will show that the app is not responding
I have a fresh out of the box 2 x 3.2 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Power Mac
    pre-installed Mac OSX 10.5.1
I migrated from my titanium laptop to my new Mac.
migrated my user account, applications and system settings
then used the Mac OSX 10.5.2 combo update
    I then reinstalled iMovie
running disk permission repair before and after each of the step I took above
    still no go
    Application Not Responding
several post state that removing some of the preferences will help this issue but so far those haven't worked at all in my case
would be great to know exactly which preferences have anything to do with iMovie
I have scanned over the discussions and seen this very topic all over, but no apple tech responding.
please let us in on how to resolve this issue
I hope we can do this without completely reinstalling all software.(makes a preinstall pretty useless)
thanks for any and all suggestions

  • Buying a 1st Gen Mac Pro nVidia GeForce 8800 GT 512MB from Applemacanix...

Applemecanix are the Microsoft of card flashers.
There are at least 5 other flashers on Ebay who will sell you the EXACT same card, with the EXACT same ROM flashed on it for around $100 less.
For that matter, a little time on MacRumours and you could figure out how to make one yourself for $200 less.
However, if you have money to burn, by all means give it to them.

  • Will the new GeForce 8800 make a difference for Final Cut Express?

Planning to buy soon a new 24 inches iMac, I am wondering if the new GeForce 8800 graphic card will make a significative difference compared with the ATI 2600 Pro?

Basically, no. The additional VRAM may enhance your overall RT Effects capability and may provide some general benefit if you run 2 monitors in extended desktop mode. But it won't make a difference in general editing or playback of your videos.

  • Radeon 2600 beats GeForce 8800 -- again

I was doing some tests comparing two iMacs, one with the Radeon 2600 Pro and one with the GeForce 8800 GS. The test was to import a movie file into iMovie, which renders thumbnails of each segment of the video.
The iMac with the Radeon completed the thumbnails faster even though it had a slower CPU clock (2.8 vs 3.06GHz). Huh?
The same thing happened when I encoded a DVD project into a disk image using iDVD. This required it to render an animated welcome screen. The iMac 2.8 with Radeon 2600 Pro beat the iMac 3.08 with the GeForce 8800 GS!
Scratching my head, I decided to try the same two tests on a Mac Pro 3.2GHz 8-core. When the Radeon 2600 XT was installed, the Mac Pro completed the iMovie and iDVD tests faster than when the GeForce 8800 GT was installed.
Apparently the GPU is handling at least a portion of both tasks -- and the Radeon 2600 handles its portion better than the GeForce 8800. And to add insult to injury, the Radeon 3870 will be shipping within a week.

Thanks for the information. I am considering to replace my standard mac pro first generation video card by a ge force 8800.
I am using the mac pro mainly for D 200 raw file editing on 30 inch ACD screen. I jjust wondered if yoyr results are also applicable for my situation.
    Any comments

  • New iMac 24 " GeForce 8800 flicker : sharing a solution

Just in case you face the same problem I have had with a new 24" iMac equiped with a GeForce 8800 GS. I faced a flickering of rectangular areas on the screen in certain applications, the worst being Capture NX 2, but also while scrolling the iTunes Store pages. The problem also implied the smearing of text lines while scrolling rapidly (with the mouse center button) web pages or text files.
I did a safe boot and noted the problem had disapeared. I de-activated Snapz Pro as a starup item and am now working w/o the problem any more. I thought I'd share this. I will contact Ambrosia Software to inform them.

Hello, maybe you've seen the other topic on this board about rectangular areas that flicker.
I'm wondering what exactly you mean with a 'safe boot'? And this Snapz Pro was an application you installed yourself?
Could you do me a favour and go into iTunes, then activate visualisation (apple+T i think) and at view go to visualisation and then options.
You'll get a prompt box. Now check if the OK button is flickering, if so I guess the problem is still there but now in a less annoying way. (will upload a video later on)
When I look at the other topic I'm getting more and more the idea that this is a hardware problem not a software one. Alltho it has been gone for a while but now it's back, really weird and such a trigger.

  • Is the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS worth the money for Final Cut Express?

    Hi,
I'm considering a new iMac 24, but not sure if the speedier on is worth the money.
Currently I use a MacBook Pro 2.2 for Final Cut Express with a 23" cinema (mostly DV, some HD) and that works okay, but won't play back in real time when I composit video.
Anybody know if the NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GS will help in that area?
    Thanks,
    KC

The speedier video card is great for 3D stuff, but it won't matter a wink for Final Cut Express, which barely makes use of the video card.
Keep in mind that Final Cut is using the CPU, not video card, to perform the editing, decoding, and encoding of the video. The only time the video card comes into play is during playback of the video, and any of the video options available for iMacs will handle that just fine.
When you composite video, the hard-disk throughput will start to come into play. The dinky 5400 RPM disk in your laptop will adversely affect the performance of that.
