S-video port question

This is just a general knowledge question, but the S-video port on my pismo has more than the 4 holes and the rectangle connerctors there are seven holes and its weird. The S-video does work so there is no problems just wondered.

Chismar,
The S-Video port on my powerbook has 7 pin holes for the pins on the S-Video connector, so I guess I am missing something in your question.

    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/wo/StoreReentry. wo?productLearnMore=M9109G%2FA
I know this product works on our network providing an information service via a cable connection to TVs throughout the building, from a 1.25Ghz eMac.
My questions, however, are: Can I connect an 1.25GHz eMac directly to a single TV using a composite video cable or only via the s-video port. If a composite cable connection works what has to be done to tune the TV in to the eMac output?
If S-video is the way to go... are there any recommendations/restrictions with regard to cable length?
Hope I'm making sense (and that I have posted to the correct forum).
    Thanks in advance.

If the TV has a S-Video connector, use it. It will give a sharper picture than composite video. If all you have is composite, use that. The TV should have an input selector to choose S-Video or composite. If the set has no video input you will need a RF modulator to convert the S-video or composite video to RF to feed into the TV's antenna input.

  • Audio/Video ports configuration

    Hi,
I'm trying to find a way to control/configure audio/video ports for receiving data. Would like to have 2 different ports, 1 for audio & 1 for video. Is that possible?

The command you're looking for is:
    Get-CsService -ConferencingServer
Lync has some weird ones like this :)

  • Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter Questions

I'm in the processing of producing an instructional video using an Intel Core Duo iMac and iMovie. This content will be distributed primarily via broadcast over cable TV. Considering this, I'd like to be able to edit and view my dv footage on a TV monitor as I work.
I was told by the Apple Store person that the Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter (http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore.woa/6314001/wo/jY18n ncCp3Nx2tYjws52iCaPkH1/1.0.21.1.0.8.25.7.11.2.3) will enable me to
    1. Mirror my desktop to simultaneously show me what my iMovie edits will look like on a TV; and
    2. Enable me to edit in iMovie using the TV as my desktop.
Am I understanding the capabilities of the Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter correctly?
    Regarding Cables
    1. I currently use an RCA composite cable to view dv footage from my camcorder directly on the TV. Is this the same cable I'd attach to the Mini-DVI to Video Adapter?
    2. The DVD recorder/player my TV signal is routed through has an s-video port. Is there a benefit to using an s-video connection in addition to/or instead of the RCA connections?
Thanks for helping me understand this setup scenario!

    Ditto to Karsten's post:
"Mirroring" a Mac's output to a TV, or plugging in an adaptor to provide a display on a Mac's screen and simultaneously on a TV ruins the Mac's display while this is happening by lowering its resolution. Ugghhh! (..I've tried this several times, in order to get a 'TV' signal out, showing the Mac's desktop, but it's hopeless..)
Karsten's method is the best - output to camcorder via the normal FireWire cable, and plug a TV or monitor into the camcorder's A/V Out socket!
[..Note, though, that Matti has pointed out that - what was it..? - during editing, some updating of the TV-thro-camcorder display doesn't work correctly. I can't remember exactly what the problem was, and I don't see it mentioned on Matti's Bugs Page, but there was some slight oddity. Nevertheless, this is still the best way of viewing on a TV or monitor..]

  • How do I connect my MacBook Pro to an LCD TV (with HDMI and S-Video ports)?

How do I connect my MacBook Pro to an LCD TV (with HDMI and S-Video ports)?  I assume I would need to use the DVI to Video adapter that came with my computer to connect to my LCD tv.  I'm just not sure which port I should use on the TV.  The HDMI port is being used for digital cable.
Also, does anyone know if this can be done wirelessly?

For a 2010+ MBP you can connect with a Displayport to HDMI, which will include Audio.
With older MBP you will need a displayport to HDMI, if you want audio to the actually TV, then you will need to get a cable with either digital out from MBP to the HDMI, or USB audio mixed into the HDMI

    HELP

    Hi,
Sorry, my Tosh A100 has a Geforce 7600, I don't know what your GA is.
But on mine I have a NVidia Control Panel, where I can configure dualview,
which normally lets me choose between the builtin LCD and the extern monitor (VGA-Port).
When a TV is connected and not recognized, I can enforce recognition there.
On the next start of the panel, the TV is then available too.
    Perhaps I could help you.
If not, note that with windows settings your TV will not be available.
Try to go to the User Interface of your graphics adapter...

  • S-video port doesn't work on Mega180

I haven't got my integrated s-video port to work yet. Have all MSI newest drivers and then the latest graphics-drv from Nvidia.
I have a s-video connector (7pin din) to 1 rca video, and 2 rca for sound.
I have enabled pal bdgb.... and so on in bios (Pal B is for sweden where I live) and in XP Pro Ive enabled dual view but still I don't get anything on that port. Nor graphic (to TV through scart which work with my laptop) neither sound.
Anyone have any clues what I can test next?

As far as I know, the standard s-vidoe is a four pin connector. Does anyone know what the other three pins on the Mega 180 do?
I have got a cable with an s-vidoe to composite converter built into it, as my TV is quite old and does not support s-video. It does not get good quality pictures, but will do until I update my TV.
I believe that S-VHS is a picture quality specification, i.e. giving slightly higher resolution that VHS, and S-VHS vidoe recorders are designed to record this higher quality picture. This has no releationship with s-video, which is the signal specification. The only connection is that S-VHS gives better pictures than VHS and it is therefore recommended to use s-vidoe rather than composite connections in order to keep the picture looking good.
You also need to set the gForce drivers to clone the output, and to send the second output to the TV and not the second VGA display (or something similar, as there are several ways to get this to work).

Just bought a 2tb external hard drive with the intention of moving my iPhoto data files to it. I have so much of my 500 gigs being used up by images and video. Questions: Will this foul up my iPhoto app?
Do I need to point iPhoto to this new location?
    Thanks!

Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.
    Assuming a Managed Library:
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.

  • Video port troubleshooting

    Hi,
I've just received a new mini-vga to rca/svideo adapter to replace what I tought was a faulty one. Once I plugged it to the tv, nothing happens. It seems that the computer recognises it (the screen blinks for a second when I plug the adapter), but the video won't show on the tv. I've used the same connection that worked before and checked the cables, and everything seems fine. I have to hypotheses: either my video port is failing or I don't have the right adapter. Can I test my video port to see if its working properly and would an innapropriate video adapter (like dvi to rca/s/video) fit in the mini-vga port? Thanks, waiting for your advice,
    Dan

    Hi Dan,
The mini DVI and VGA ports are slightly different so one wouldn't fit in the other. Your iBook came with Apple hardware Test on the disk. Put the install disk in the drive and restart while holding the option key. Select AHT and click the straight arrow to access the test.

  • S-video port on G4 MacBook Pro

I have one of the old MacBook Pros that has an s-video port on it. It came with an adapter that plugged into that port and output composite video (standard RCA video connector). I have lost that adapter. Does anyone know where I can buy a replacement?

There's no such thing as a "G4 MacBook Pro" - there are G4 PowerBooks (G4 is a PPC processor), and there are MacBook Pros (which use Intel processors).
As no MacBook Pro has an S-video output, you seem to have a G4 PowerBook.
What you need is an S-video to composite video adapter, and these are available lots of places. Here's a link to one at RadioShack:

  • How to record from the video in or S-video Ports on Qosmio G40?

Can anyone tell me how to record from the video in or S-video ports, because i've tried the Ulead DVD factory program and the only capture device it could see was the webcam, and it did capture from it
After that i've downloaded the update file that was provided by the support website
The devices that the program could see are the TV tuner and the webcam (which it couldn't access anymore for some reason)
After that i've downloaded a newer update which simply is the same as the last update and seems that someone in the support website directed the link of the new update which they don't have to the file of the previous update which doesn't really do anything.

    Hi
There are 2 s-video ports; s-video out port is not designed to capture the signals from any external source. The name of this port says everything; its an OUT port!
The s-video-in port must be placed at the right side of the notebook. Dont mix the both ports. But note; this port receives only the video signals. To hear the sounds, use a video cable to connect the sound terminals of the audio device and your computer.
    Red: sound right channel
    White: sound left channel
The Ulead DVD Movie factory can be used to capture this signal.

  • Basic s-video cable question

    hello,
I'm new to using a dvd recorder and am trying to hook it up.   My tv does not have an s-video port but the dvd player and cable box do.  I have the regular audio/video cables hooking the dvd player to the tv.. those work fine.  When i use those same cables to record with the dvd player, from box to dvd player they work fine also.  I figured since it was there i would get an s-video cable and use that.  So i have basic red and white audio cables hooking the cable box to the dvd recorder and it records audio ok.. but the s-video cable i just connected the cable box to the dvd player either doesn't work or i'm missing something because there is no video going to the player.
Basically am I missing something in getting the cable box to product video through my new s-video cable?
    thank you
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You should not have paid more than $5 for a s-video cable.  Next time, order from Monoprice.com.
The Motorola box always outputs through s-video, so if you aren't getting a picture, then you need to check two things.  First, make sure the s-video is connected to a s-video input on the DVD recorder, not a s-video output.  Second, you may need to change a setting on the DVD recorder to use the s-video input rather than composite (yellow RCA) input.

  • Nothing fits into my MSI ti4200 S-video port !!!

I love my ti4200, but I'm pissed off that the S-video cable that came with the card does not even fit into the S-video port at the back of the card.
It looks like it should fit, but I put as hard as I can and it does not go in.  I know it's not upside down either.
I have another S-video cable I bought from radioshack, and that doesn't fit either.
I've heard about some S-video converter?  It this something I'm missing?

Ok there... I dunno if you have the similiar card as mine as you didn't state you model of your card...
Well mine is also a Ti-4200TD 4x card model MS 8870...
There are actually two different S-Video Composite cables that comes together with the cards...
Cable 1: Short cable with 1 black RCA out head and 2 yellow RCA in head for TV-In and S-video In... (This is the one that you'll use to connect from the AGP card out... and later connect two the following cable 2.
Cable 2: Long cable with 1 black RCA head at each end. This is the one that you'll hook up with the cable 1 after cable 1 is hooked up to your card...
If you find that both or all the cables that I've mentioned can't be found in your bundle, or that practicaly none of the cables provided in the box has the right head for your VGA card, I supposed that it's time to return to your dealer and exchange for a new set which has the correct bundle...
    All the Best... :D !!!

  • S-video port???

Does anybody know if the audio port on the ipod video is also an s-video port, or if it is a port specifically designed for the cable that you buy from apple.

The iPod does not have an S-video port.
The Universal Dock (as well as other docking solutions) have S-video ports.
The audio jack on the top of the iPod is compatible with headphones, Apple's A/V cord, or 3rd-party A/V cords (assuming you swap the red and yellow connectors).
