  • Re: Can I change from Vista to XP?

I have now Vista, but I would like to change it on XP.
    Is it possible?
    If yes, how?

Why should it not possible to change from Vista to XP?
    What do you think?
I dont know which notebook you use but if you can find on the Toshiba website all drivers for it its no problem. Otherwise you must search on external websites for drivers, like Intel, Realtek and so far.
To install XP you must only boot from the CD and follow the screen instructions.
    Thats all!

  • B450: Change from Vista to XP

I bought a new lenovo B450 with window vista  and  it makes my set too  slow  and hangs always  when I open few  windows, kindly  help me  because I want to  change from vista  to window XP,tried but  cannot

    Coolsaint,
I assume you are talking about the B450 notebook...?
I think Herick offers good advice to first try to tune / optimize the Vista preload to see if you can get the performance you want out of it before reverting to XP.
If you do go the XP route, please note the SATA mode setting in BIOS Herick references.
After loading your XP version, you can go to this page on the support site to download all the XP drivers for the system and install all of them.
I recommend that you DO NOT change your partition sizes.   If you just format and install to C: you can always start up with the One Key Recovery and recovery to the factory preload if XP turns out not to work well for you.  If you remove the hidden system partition, OKR will no longer work and you won't be able to recover.
    Best regards,

  • We lost our Music Library when we changed from Vista to W7.

Recently had to change from Vista to W7 and when we downloaded a new iTunes, our Music Library wasn't there.  What am I doing wrong?

Actually, it won't in my case.
On the external, I have them all saved in a folder called My Music (which contains some songs itself). There are hundreds of sub folders listed by Artist. Within those folders, are songs and also more folders with the Album title. Finally, within those album folders are the songs on that album.
I tried to load the entire My Music into iTunes, and it only loaded the songs in the My Music folder. I assume you have to go to every folder (down to the lowest level) and import them one by one.
I lose all of my playlists and ratings. They are still on my iPod - I wish there was a way to export those settings into a file, then repopulate iTunes - then use that file to re-organize my songs to the way they were.
I had weeks of work invested in iTunes and music organization.

  • Windows 7 (64 bit ) or Vista Ultimate (64 bit)  Install fails -

    Hi everyone.
Any chance of the ABAP sneak preview working  on a 64 bit OS (Vista or preferably Windows 7 -- much less resource hungry - system).
I'm running Windows 7 X-64 build 7048.winmain.090219-1845 -- it's 95% at Release Candidate level and works really fast. Runs absolute RINGS around my old Vista ultimate system.
Most decent laptops  these days have 4GB RAM and are dual processors 64 bit capable.
I'm still having to run the sneak preview on an XP PRO Virtual machine -- would really like to run in on Native hardware however.
The first fail occurs when trying to install the MMC snap in console -- since this is the ist task it wasn't worth going any further.
I hope SAP gets a Windows 7 version available soon -- Windows 7 is SO much better than VISTA even with SP1 applied  I'm sure lots of companies will skip the whole VISTA thing and go straight to W7 anyway.
    Cheers

    Hi,
yes, I have noticed the same , that there is 64 bit SAP MMC present in the installation folders of recent SAP NetWeaver 7.01 SR1 SP3 ABAP Trial Version. Moreover , there is also the 64 bit MAXDB provided.
But so what, the installer does not take them into processing. I used the correct version of Java 1.4.2_23 .
Installing in the Vista 64 bit Vista Business , I faced several problems with that , few of which I overcome , but still not successful. First problem was in step 2 , when installing the SAP MMC. 1063 - fatal error, wrong system version.
I tried the 64bit binaries out.  I manipulated on the control.xml file, changing the name of the file from sapmmcX86u.msi to sapmmcX64u.msi. It helped, I passed the step . The SAP MMC installed succesfuly in 64 bit version.
It looks like the routine SystemMgt().getSystemInfo().getMakePlatform() of the java installer gives out the wrong name of the platform. Should return 'ntamd64' instead of 'ntintel'.
The installation failed than on the step - creating database. Same problem, there is the wrong MAXDB folder chosen. I swapped the names of the folders, changed the label.asc file , and - success again , the database installed in 64 bit version without a problem.
So, where's the problem  ?  It failed at the step : create databes instance. There is some parameter missing. The scripts are simply not capable of doing the installation right in AMD64 platform.
I also doubt if this process can be accomplished without the SAP kernel in 64 bit version , that I do not see in the package.
There is only the  SAP_Kernel_701SR1_for_x386 folder  containing that.
Can someone help me ? Will it run on Vista 64 ?
Do we have to wait for SAP to release a proper version of SAP Kernel ? If yes, than why there are some 64 bit binaries already provided in the installation package.  Only this keeps me in the hope.
I noticed simillar questions raised in few other topics , without an answer though.
    Tomek.

  • Our Setup: XP 64-bit or Vista 64-bit?

Let me break down the situation here:
A year ago we built a computer from scratch. I'll list some of the basic specs here:
A nice Tyan motherboard (can't remember the model)
    4 GB of RAM (4 x 1 GB sticks)
an nVidia GeForce 8800 GTX video card
    TWO Dual-Core AMD Opteron 270 (2.0 GHz) - [dualcore + dualprocessor]
10k Raptor hard drive for operating system
3x500GB RAID as "video" hard drive
    Adobe Premiere Pro CS3
Now, after building this computer over a year ago, Windows Vista had JUST been released, so we weren't interested in installing Vista yet, due to not knowing how great it would be. So with this awesome computer, we ended up just installing regular 32-bit ole' Windows XP on it.
Now it's been a year, and the computer is in need of a good format. We're trying to decide which operating system to install now. Obviously, XP32 is the SAFEST choice, but probably the slowest, considering we have dual-core dual-processor here and 4GB of RAM, and want to take advantage of all of this.
So I guess we're kind of wondering what to expect if we go to XP64 or Vista64. Which is going to give us better performance? This computer is basically ONLY for video editing, not much else. Literally installing Adobe's software, and maybe small needed things like Nero and whatnot. I haven't really heard too much about XP64, and a lot of the stuff I hear about Vista is conflicted. AND also keep in mind that next month, XP will be upgrading to SP3 and Vista will be upgrading to SP1, and VistaSP1 sounds quite promising.
All of the hardware and software we have apparently has Vista drivers (I've checked online), so there should be no concern here.
So it's simple. We're on XP32 at the moment. Should we go up to XP64 or Vista64, and if so, and which one and why?

Adobe Dynamic Link "Import After Effects comp" fails in Vista Business 64 bit
I am posting this, since in my search, I found no other reference to this problem on the web. If someone has a fix then great. Should someone have the same issue, it may confirm a glitch running CS3 Production Premium in Vista 64 bit. I run XP 64 bit and Vista 64 bit on a dual boot (same hardware) so it was easy for me to troubleshoot the " serious error" Premier gave me when I tried to import an After Effects comp through Dynamic link in Premier Pro. Below is the scenario.
    1. The following sequence for Adobe Dynamic Link>New After Effects Composition works fine in both Win XP Pro 64 bit and Vista Business 64 bit :
I open After Effects CS3 to an untitled composition then leave AFX running in the background. Next I Open Premier Pro CS3 to create a new project in the following format:
Standard NTSC video (4:3 interlaced). 48kHz (16 bit) audio.
    Editing mode: DV NTSC
    Timebase: 29.97 fps
    Video Settings
    Frame size: 720h 480v (0.900)
    Frame rate: 29.97 frames/second
Pixel Aspect Ratio: D1/DV NTSC (0.9)
    Fields: Lower Field First
In Premier Pro CS3 I choose File> Adobe Dynamic Link>New After Effects Composition. My project window now has a 11 sec dynamic link linked comp 0 movie file which is black video. I return to After Effects and find a new comp named "dynamic link Linked Comp". I import a Microsoft DV 720 X 480 48.000kHz/16 bit stereo 30 sec video into the AFX Project window then drag it to the timeline. I return to Premier Pro and find the 30 sec movie in the Premier timeline. I am able to make changes to the movie in AFX and they reflect in the Premier timeline.
    2. The next sequence for Adobe Dynamic Link>Import After Effects fails running on my Vista Business 64 bit OS. It works perfectly running on Win XP Pro 64 bit.
I open After Effects, import an NTSC Microsoft DV 720 X 480 48.000kHz/16 bit stereo 30 sec video, drag video into the "create a new comp button" at the bottom of the project file then save the comp. I open a new Standard NTSC video (4:3 interlaced) project in Premier Pro CS3 then choose File>Adobe Dynamic Link>Import After Effects Composition. I get an Adobe Premier Alert " Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premier Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project." I click OK and Premier closes.
System: Dual boot Win XP Pro 64 bit and Vista Business 64bit, 3.2 GHz Pentium D 940 Dual core, Asus P5WD2 Premium motherboard, 8 gig Crucial DDR-2 667 ram, WD 5000AAKS and WD 7500AAKS SATA hard drives, Dual Asus EAX300 Video cards.
The above comparisons were done on a fresh load of both OS's with the latest drivers and the only programs I had installed were Microsoft Office 2003 Pro, Quicktime, Firefox and Acrobat. I have all the latest CS3 updates for Production Premium and the latest Windows updates.

  • 64-bit Windows Vista Home Premium compatibilty?

I'm looking to purchase a new PC that runs the 64-bit Windows Vista Home Premium. I'm wondering if my older programs, Premiere Pro 1.5, Photoshop 7, and Dreamweaver MX 2004 will run in the new system. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Gee, Phyllis I've read on microsofts own site that CS3 was 64 bit vista compatable and CS4 was native. I'm still on Photoshop 7 so I can't help you but on photoshop re-installs that load with messages about missing files , I search in my back up folders for the previous computer where it ran fine and copy it into my photoshop program folder.
If you google the exact missing file message you may find a site that charges for it. I'd be scared to do that, though.
Bob, if I grasp it correctly 64 bit compatible means "EUREAKA" the software runs on 64 bit vista in at least one case so we'll call it vista compatible. Vista 64 bit native means software will use bigger chunks of data and access more RAM available because it's been re-writen / coded and designed for it.
I had my old dell inspiron 8100 laptop start to BSD occasionally. I do a lot of photoshop and picture storage and have 2 big HP dual xeon 800 FSB workstations with XP Pro and 4GB of RAM (3.5 showing) for sit in one spot work. I broke down and bought a new laptop last september to replace the dell.
Got a gamers laptop and changed the OS to Ultimate 64 bit from Home Premium 64 bit and changed a single weirdly partitioned 200 GB 7200 RPM SATA drive to dual 320 GB 7200 RPM SATA HD's.Had to buy Partition Manager from Paragon to partition drives like I wanted (OS and programs on separate spindle from paging file and scratch disk)and it had to boot in a DOS mode to do partitioning succesfully and worked fine on Vista 64 bit. Norton Anti - virus works and was listed as 64 bit compatible when I bought it. Acronis True Image 11 home clearly states "Supports 64 bit CPU and windows Vista" so I guess they do or they don't................Got refunds from lavasoft and spyware blaster they both claimed Vista 32 and 64 bit but were quick to give refunds. Would not load or install.
As you can see I'm trying to adapt to vista and 64 bit so I'm used to it when I get new Vista workstations with more RAM for Photoshop. I've e-mailed Roxio support and have been issued a ticket # for my original problem. Let's see what they say..............Raymond

  • Windows XP Pro (32-bit) and Vista Ultimate (64-bit) on the same Mac Pro HD?

Has anyone been able to install both Windows XP Pro (32-bit) and Windows Vista Ultimate (64-bit) on the same dedicated Windows hard drive? I have four HD in my Mac Pro, and one of them is dedicated for Windows (and bootable via Boot Camp). I found the following technical articles about installing Windows XP & Vista on the same hard drive (using two separate partitions) using a VMWare machine as the test system:
    http://apcmag.com/howto_dual_boot_vista_and_xp_with_vista_installed_first__the_stepbystepguide.htm

Has anyone successfully installed Windows XP (32-bit) and Vista 64-bit) on the same NTFS partition?
I already have Windows XP Pro (32-bit) SP3 installed on my single NTFS hard drive. I am looking for the best way to add the Vista 64-bit installation on the same hard drive.
Any thoughts and advise are appreciated.

Windows has its own list of boot OSs, and default, from msconfig. It will sit and wait for xx-seconds on startup in Windows if you want to boot from an alternate.
As to whether Apple's OS Switcher (aka startup disk bootcamp control panel or tray icon) sees both, I had Windows Home Premium and Ultimate 64, and pretty sure OS X saw both. That was pre-Leopard and before there were 64-bit Apple drivers.
I can't think of any scenerio of wanting to mix 32-bit and 64-bit on the same paritition, you realize you can't install the one over the other and must do a clean install.
When I added a partition out of main partition (I wanted to put search index and page file on their own partition) those partitions aren't seen - are hidden - to Leopard.

  • Upgrade questions for early 08 iMac from SL to Lion and Vista to Win 7

I've been doing a lot of reading on this forum and elsewhere and have a few questions on the best way to do this so it goes smoothly with the least amount of issues.  My configuration is in my sig below.
Unless someone talks me out of it this I want to go from Snow Leopard and Windows Vista Home Premium to Lion and Win 7 Home Premium.  I would like to go to Win 7 64 bit but Apple doesn't list my machine as supported for 64 bit so I may have to go 32 bit.  I've read elsewhere that others have gone to 64 bit with little to no problems.  The individual components in my iMac
Here is what I think is the logical order:
    1. Install Lion
    2. Previous 2.2 Boot Camp partition should remain intact.
    3.  Lion Boot Camp Assistant should now be version 4.0
    4.  Run Boot Camp and download software to burn to CD.
    5.  Launch Windows and install new drivers using burned CD.
    6.  Install Win 7
Does this seem correct?  Any suggestions?

Do a clean install of Windows. Hence, remove the Boot Camp partition you have now so Lion can manage the drive.

  • Exe developed in 32 bit Windows XP not working in 64 bit Windows Vista

Am using LabVIEW 8.6 demo version downloaded from internet and Windows XP 32 bit OS. I developed an application and created an exe which communicates with a USB smart card reader. That exe file works fine with that USB device in Windows XP 32 bit OS.
But, when i used that application exe in Windows XP 64 bit OS, and also in Windows Vista 64 bit OS, the application is not working. The communication with the USB smart card reader is not at all establishing. The USB device will take appropriate 32 bit driver and 64 bit driver automatically when updating on various OSes.
How to resolve this? Shall i have to install any 64 bit drivers for LabVIEW?
    Thanks,
    Mathan
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Dear Amit,
Thanks for the attention. I have tried both the option you told, "Run as administrator" and checked "Services" and smart card services are running. Even i tried restarting the device, but the same result. Maybe as you told, this maybe more of an MSDN issue. I don't know how to proceed.
    Thanks,
    Mathan
[Edit: From somewhere in MSDN forum or others, i tried the below suggestion too, but in vain. Same scenario. I lost myself in VISTA.]
    1. Right-click on the key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cryptography\Calais and select Permissions...
    2. Click Add.
    3. Click Advanced.
    4. Click Locations.
    5. Click on the computername and click OK.
    6. In the window 'Select user or groups', click on Find now.
    7. Select LOCAL SERVICE.
    8. Click OK.
    9. In the window 'Select user or groups', click on OK.
    10. In the window 'Permissions for Calais', click on LOCAL SERVICE and make sure 'Full control' , 'Read' and 'special permissions' is allowed.
    11. In the window 'Advance Security Settings for Calais", deactivate the options 'Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects...'
    12. When the window 'Security' appears, click Copy.
    13. In the window 'Advance Security Settings for Calais", activate the option 'Replace permission entries on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects' and click OK.
    14. In the window 'Security' click Yes

  • Will Boot Camp in leopard work with 64 bit Windows Vista Ultimate?

I installed Boot Camp beta in Tiger. Then I installed the 64 bit version of windows Vista Ultimate. Many drivers were not installed such as the keyboard mapping driver. I bought Leopard. Should the version of Boot Camp in Leopard work with the 64 bit Windows Vista Ultimate or would I probably encounter the same driver problems? Should I delete the Windows partition before upgrading to Leopard and then install the 32 bit version of Windows Vista Ultimate for all the drivers to work properly?
    Please advise what to do.
Thank you very much in advance.

    Hi,
since the 'new' BootCamp 2.0 also only includes Driver support for the 32-bit Windows versions, you will get a 2nd Encounter.
Is there a specific reason for you to use the 64-bit versions, apart from maybe the 4GB RAM 'issue' ?
Installing the 32-bit version and then the Drivers from the OSX DVD should give you all the drivers needed.
    Regards
    Stefan

Absolutely a multi core processor can run a 32bit OS. It will just not take full advantage of the multiple cores.
I'd try an XP install and make sure you wipe all the partitions. Then stop the install and start over with whichever OS you want.

Could you please advise where to get the 64-bit Windows Vista Ultimate DVD so that I can upgrade?

    Hi
I think this question can be answered only by a Toshiba person. This is a simply a user to user forum and you will not meet here anybody from Toshiba.
But I will provide my own opinion.
    Regarding point
    1) Toshiba hasnt supported the 64bit in the past and I believe it will take several times till such 64bit OS will be supported. Who knows.
    2) Dont think you will receive the 64bit Toshiba DVD. If Toshiba will decided to support the 64bit drivers then you have to purchase the Vista 64bit OS and then you could be able to use the Toshiba drivers from the website.
    3) As I said, if you wan to use the 64bit OS you have to purchase it.
