S10 Crash on Homeworld 2

Whenever I started Homeworld 2 (great game..) on my S10, the computer directly crashed and gave a blue screen showing something wrong with igxpdv32.dll. I understand the driver is related to the Intel GMA 950. I reinstall the driver, installed  Homeworld 2 patches but the game still keep on crashing.
After countless blue screen, I figured out one way to boot HW2 without crashing:
Play it in and only in 640x480 windowed mode (800x600 windowed WILLNOT do).
The game will run but pop out a warning about the 945gm chipset driver, but it of course SHOULD support HW2 and in S9/S10 wiki it is said to be compatable with S9.
Firstly, I think this problem is due to the special resolution of the screen, so I mounted a 17" lcd and make a standard 1280x1024 desktop. This time windowed mode also crash.
Now I am confused, is it somehow related to some specific modification done by lenovo in designing this mini PC?

  • Lenovo S10 crash

Well, i am using a Lenovo S10 with upgraded ram to 2048 megabytes.
I recently installed veriface software.  Everything went downhill fast from there.  After i installed it, XP started crashing everywhere(you could see a flash of the blue screen before it almost instantaneously powers down). Then, on top of that, Linux mint started to crash as well.  So, i decided to format my computer  using a live cd of ubuntu to get to the partition editor (saving my documents folder of course )  After i formatted everything, i ran XP and it loaded all files fine until it said it was loading the installer.  From here it hangs on the blue screen until I turn the thing off.  After much pain, i finally got ubuntu to actually install.  It ran fine for a little while and then it started to crash violently as well.  Programs run and sometimes load before they quit.  It crashes completely if the program does not quit automatically.
I think it might be because veriface was a 64 bit program running on a 32 bit machine. I think it is hardware related now. I ran a disk check before i actually installed ubuntu and it found 1 "bad" file.  I just need a way to end the crashing and be able to run an OS without it kicking the bucket.  I cannot do much on the actual computer due to the frequent crashing.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

the symptom of your described crashes
is your memoryupgrade is the faulty ...
i bet you can easily install all systems xp,mint, ubuntu with the onboard 512 mb memory .. without any fault...
when you plug in the extra memory 2GB stick, the system will crash...
i prefer a  corsair memory 2GB 667 MHz ...for the lenovo s series

  • S10-3t. Help, my computer crash & blue screen almost all the time

    hello,
I have problem with my new bought S10-3t, it comes with pre-installed win 7 home premium. I am not sure if it is coming from the hardware or software, but it does crash and blue screen a lot and almost every time. Especially when I am trying to update windows (it always require me to reset it back to factory setting after did this).
Btw, I have uninstall some of the bloated software that came with the system and I also installed Norton Internet Securtiy on it. I have also done one recovery restore many times and the problem still persist. Now I am wondering either I should return it back to lenovo or keep it because I am sure its going to be a hassle to return it back

    afham_86,
Systems should be tolerant of some software changes - not know what all you have removed, how you removed it (deleting files vs uninstall) and when the problems started in relation to the changes you made it's going to be difficult to provide an easy answer.
You say you've used OKR.   Have you shutdown the system and started up with the recover button and selected the option to restore to factory state?   If it won't do this, then either the hard disk is corrupted and you are going to need service, or you have a memory or systemboard issue in which case you are going to need service.
I would recommend trying to recover completely to factory state, and failing that, to call technical support and log your case.  (save the WNxxxxx number).   If service recommends repair, you can either send it to the depot and see if they can fix it, or contact sales and arrange for a replacement.  In order to work through sales, you will need to have called service and have that service case number handy.
Sorry that you are having trouble.

  • Ideapad S10-3s crashes during start-up

I need help, the other day my notebook crashed when I tried to turn it on. The blue screen appeared and it said "Page fault in nonpaged area" and then it started to dump physical memory. A few days before the incident I also had a hard time turning it on, it would always hang up after loading win 7 but then it would pull through and it works perfectly fine. Then the night before I remembered it was installing an update and then the next day it won't turn on anymore.
I can still use the internet through quick start, but the one recovery thing also crashes when I try to use it. Do I have to reformat it? Or is there anyway to fix it without harming my files.
I didn't install anything new to it aside from the latest Energy Management software, the usual updates, and a game called Zuma Revenge
    Please help me, thanks

    Hi,
" Page fault in nonpaged area "  and OKR will not working as it should, sounds like a memory or harddrive failure , best call your local service.

  • S10: 1 long + 2 short beeps + Crash

Last night I left my S10 ideapad plugged in downstairs (last activity was about midnight).  At 6:00 a.m., was awaked by a loud alarm, 1 long + 2 short beeps, repeating.  System was unresponsive (had to remove battery to stop the beeping).  If the beep codes are similar to other Lenovo laptops, this is a generic beep code for system board or display or BIOS (not very useful, heh!)
    Anyone else see this?
Early adopter problems to be sure, so no real complaints (other than frustration) but just seeing if anyone else has seen this.
    Since I got it:
    - Updated to latest XP patches
    - Installed MS Office and AIM Lite
    - Upgraded display driver via Lenovo website (PuTTY didn't work until I did that)
Tried to use ThinkVantage auto system update, but it doesn't seem to connect to their server (might just be that they haven't loaded S10 stuff up there yet).

    Welcome to the forum!
There are a few Lenovo employees roaming around in here helping out on a volunteer basis, but this is not an official support channel. Instead, this is designed to be a user-to-user support and discussion forum. You may or may not get an answer directly from one of the Lenovo employees as there are way more of us than them and all of them, even Mark, have full-time jobs doing other things.

  • S10-3 ,need help with HDD

    Hi,
     got a new S10-3.. had win7 pre-installed...
     >had to RE-install winXP-SP2 on it.. did so.. but had to go to BIOS and set "SATA contrller working mode" to "Compatible"
    >after THIS, I SEE 3 partitions
this is how I viewed it in Win7 (disk management)
    FREEDOS/simple/basic/FAT32(healthy/system,archive,primary partition) = 14.63gig
    unNAMED partition/Simple/basic/  (healthy, OEM partition) = 1.08gig
    C: simple/basic/ntfs (healthy/boot,page file,crash dump,logical drive) 133gig
now when I TRY to delete the partion for the "OEM partition", it had a warning, so I didnt touch it..same goes for the freeDOS, but it does indicate I could do so... but I still didnt..
what I did was just reformat the remaining partition (133Gb) using XP bootdisk, DELETE (that) partition and devided them into two... so its about 33Gb(drive C: logical)  and 100Gb(drive D: logical)
so I have successfully installed XP in there... BIOS SATA setting WAS on "compatible",else if in AHCI, Bluescreen only
purpose: I just wanted to see the LCD color diffrence with my other netbook running on XP...
anyways, after seing the diff, I HAD to re-install win7 again...
ok now I have installed the win7(BIOS SATA was in compatible mode).. when set to AHCI, I get blue screen.. now that WAS dumb! I should have set the BIOS to AHCI mode while installing win7(did NOT know).. anyways, had fixxed it by tweaking the registry.. now its in AHCI mode (much faster, I agree)
    NOW HERE COMES my problem:
    >>everytime I start my netbook, I get this startup screen ASKING W/C OS should I boot to.. it shows 4 choices : earlier version of windows/win7/win7/and unrecornized OS on drive C
    I choose the 2nd win7 option...then its boots properly....
    >>>>when I RE-installed the QS, it NOW asks what drive to install to!!
back before when it had the pre-installed OS, I *never* saw any "what drive to install" notice...
now REALLY I want to "revert" back to the original state this machine was...
    >>>a few questions:
HOW was the OEM partition and  FREEDOS partition created? was it created BEFORE or AFTER installation of win7 OS? a program perhaps?
IS IT also possible to REMOVE ALL those partitions so this becomes 1 partition only? wont it affect anthing?
Sorry for the many questions, but Im just so clueless as of now....
    -Raff

ok.. I do have a USB DVD drive ..
arent there any other applications/programs w/c could do similar tasks re-creating it?
AFAIR, It had a 15Gb(for OKR I presume) , a 130Gb(for the win7 OS) , and a 1Gb?(for the QS?)... Im just interested with the QS only... how I had installed it before, WITHOUT asking w/c drive to install to... that is how I remember...
ANYWAYS, here is the REAL (slight) problem(or annoyance) I have right now.. note THIS was NOT the way it used to start up when I had not removed the pre-installed win7. the moment I press QS button, will boot and take up about 11-12seconds:
    http://i56.tinypic.com/161i52g.jpg
OK.. unless I CLICK any app, screen goes blank a few seconds, then it will FINALLY show the buttons(lower right) and the app chosen  will start....
    http://i52.tinypic.com/11ccdnr.jpg
it wasnt there before... is this thing normal? or could I do something about it? I find it really annoying.. a few seconds MORE of waiting + the 11-12seconds boot-up of QS...

  • CRASH when importing EDL

Hello I have a probel imorting an edl.
everytime I try to import the file, my FCP crashes.
    The file looks like:
    ALLE SHOWS PAL BAND 2

Is there something wrong with the format?
    Thanks for your advice.
    Greetings from Germany,

What format is the EDL you are trying to import? EDL import should work just fine. Also, what version of FCP are you trying to import that into?

  • Cannot Restore my S10!

So I have been doing a lot of messing around with different configurations on my S10 (Linux, Win 7, etc.) and somewhere along the way,  I screwed up my hard drive partitions.
I now want to restore my S10 to its original configuration and I have the recovery disks that I created when I first got the netbook.
I realize that my first mistake was to delete all the partitions on my hard drive so I could start from scratch as I cannot find any way to get the restore disks to restore now.
I have never had a set of factory restore disks that would not fully restore your computer.  This is ridiculous to me.  Why don’t the restore disks create all the partitions required and re-install the OS image, drivers and applications?
Had anybody found a way around this?
If anybody from Lenovo is reading this, can you please help with this?
It’s crazy for Lenovo to think that everybody in the world wants to keep their partitions the same and even though upgrading your own hard drive will void the warranty, you should still be able to install the original operating system that you have paid for.
Lenovo: I have paid for and own my Windows XP license, Can’t I download an install image.  I don’t care if it won’t re-create the hidden restoration partitions; I just want my OS back.
    Thanks
    Simon
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    My S10 is model number: 4231 (EB10521370)
XP Home, 160GB HD,  No Bluetooth.
I guess it won't prompt for the keys as it must be a volume OEM license that will only work on thos machines.
I used to have a Dell desktop, and my friend had an old dell that crashed.
I tried to install the XP that came with mine and it said it wasn't supported on this computer.
That was the same and would install on my computer without asking for any keys.
Not sure how they do it, must have some model detection from the BIOS.
I'll double check my Recovery disks as well to see if I can get to the i386 backup on it.
    Thanks
    Simon

  • S10 Win 7 Power Management

    Hello everyone,
I have an S10 which I am dual booting XP and Windows 7 RC. Win 7 is working well, except I have had problems with the Lenovo Power Management. Crashes, machine won't wake from sleep, etc.
From what I've gathered others here have had success using Lenovo Power Management with Win 7. What driver/software are you guys using?
I am using the 32-bit version of Win 7 and have had nothing but problems. Any other advice as far as settings I should be using, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
i use this EM install as admin and set it for vista compatible.. all works no probs

same install as admin and set it for vista compatble
and this little tool runs without install simply start it and surfing is more ....

  • Thinkstation S10 on Fedora 9 x64 Linux

A question for the Linux gurus amongst us:
I'm trying to install Fedora 9 x64, but it crashes as soon as it has determined the keyboard type.  The graphical installer simply locks up the machine; the text installer abnormally exits with code 1/1, but at least allows me to reboot.
I get the same problem with the 32bit version, yet others have installed other versions of Linux without problems.
Any advice is welcome.  To help, I can tell you the following which may make a difference:
    The machine, an S10 6423-31M, has twin nVidia FX1700 video cards driving four Lenovo L220x monitors;
    The BIOS is set to 'plug and play OS YES' (NO made no difference); '2nd core enabled YES' (disabled made no difference); 'MAX CPID=3 YES'; 'Legacy OS YES' (required for the keyboard); 'TPM enabled and active'; SATA II enabled and set to AUTO; RAID enabled (for the Windows disks);
    There are two wireless Logitech mice; one via PS/2 connector, the other USB.  The USB mouse works fine in the graphical installer, until it hangs;
BIOS version is 939, the latest I could find.
Comments and suggestions are much appreciated,
    Thanks,

Okay, I cheated.  I used the Live CD version instead, and that worked.
If anyone knows how to get KDE to use more than one monitor, that would be handy (GNOME is ok, but I prefer KDE).
Even better, does anyone know if Fedora 9 + nvidia drivers supports mixed portrait and landscape monitors?  The nvidia application does not offer this option, but is it supported by the X server.
Is anyone else running Fedora on an S10?

new to threads, may be doing something COMPLETELY wrong. When I run the program I get a couple of NullPointerExceptions in Thread-0 and Thread-1. I'm confused because it screws up when I call size() for arrayList, and in the API size doesn't throw anything.

  • Iphoto crashing after using mini-dvi to video adapter

Hi, IPhoto on my Macbook is crashing. I can open it, then as soon as I scroll down it locks up and I have to force quit.
This started happening right after I used a Mini-DVI to Video Adapter cable to hook my macbook up to my TV. The adapter/s-video connection worked and I was able to see the video on the tv. But iphoto immediately locked up the computer when I went to slide show and now it locks every time I open it.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you:)
    Dorothy

It means that the issue resides in your existing Library.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards

help my safari doesn't open and gives me a crash report ever since i downloaded a file from the internet. I have a macbook air (early 2014) with running os x yosemite version 10.10.1

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem.
You may have installed the "Genieo" or "InstallMac" ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it.
Back up all data before making any changes.
Besides the files listed in the linked support article, you may also need to remove this file in the same way:
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.ltvbit.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those you find, remove them as well.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, then you may have one of the other kinds of adware covered by the support article. Follow the rest of the instructions in the article.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates
    if it's not already checked.

  • How do I install all my old programs and data from an old system folder after I have reinstalled the same OSX system after a crash?

The system is OSX10.5.8 Leopard on a 2009 imac. A new system was installed from the installation disks and the original system saved to a folder.
I need to use my Adobe programs, rescue my email, i-tunes and iphoto data.  The disk utility indicates that my Time Machine back-up disk is damaged and I don't want to take a risk of having Time Machine erase my hard drive and try to reinstall the exact system existing at the time of the crash.  There was over 650 gb of stored files that I was copying and removing from the drive at the time it crashed. The total size of the original system file is still about 650 Gb.
I would prefer to go back in Time Machine and only rescue the programs as most of the files have been copied to external hard drives, but I can't access the back-up hard drive from the new version of the Time Machine.  Or by I don't want the Time Mchine to start copying the new operating system which would include all the data in the old system file. Time Machine was working fine at the time of the crash.

No, the disk was backed up with time machine a few hours prior to the crash.  I was unable to open the computer when I tried to restart it- got a grey screen with the spinning disk- after a few minutes the screen would go black and would reboot continuously, but not load any images or programs. I started the computer from the 10.5.4 installation disks and checked both the time machine external hard drive and the Imac internal drive with the disk utilities. Both showed as damaged --the internal drive and permissions were repaired, but the external drive (time machine back-up)  was damaged and not repairable by disk utilities. I don't believe that the external drive for Time Machine was connected to the computer at the time of the crash as I was copying files to a different hard drive drive. And I was not having any problems with the TM back-up drive prior to the crash.
I accessed the Imac internal disk by firewire (as a target disk) and copied as many data files as I had room for on my external hard drives available.  And I deleted quite a few files from the imac internal drive (mostly just jpegs, duplicate tifs, etc--nothing that was used by i-photos, i-tunes or the Mail program).
Then I installed a new OSX10.5.4 system from the installation disk and the old system was moved to a folder on the hard drive.  I previousy had had the option to reinstall the complete system from Time Machine when I connected that drive and booted with the installation disks with the C key depressed.  But it didn't seem like a good option because I was unsure of the condition of that external disk and whether it would be able to reinstall my data correctly, once it had erased my internal hard drive.
I'm considering buying some new external hard drives and backing up the present system to time Machine (so I'll still have my old data in the old system folder).  And then I would try using the old Time Machine back-up to try to reinstall the sytem previous to the crash.  That back-up would reinstall about 700gb of data and operating software and programs which sounds like a lengthy back-up.  Since I have never used Time Machine to do a full reinstallation (I've only used it for individual files), I'm reluctant to do anything rash.
I'm a professional designer (with a deadline) but I can still use my Illustrator and Photoshop by opening them from the old system folder and saving the files to an external drive.  So it's not neccessary to do anything hasty except to delete some of the excess art and document files that were causing the computer to run slowly and the  Adobe programs to crash when I tried to save my work. I have quite a few books on tape in the i-tumes folder which is probably talking up tons of space but I don't where the i-tunes files live.
    Thanks for any help. Peggy
