S10 installation hang after video-selection

Hi,
when the installation probes my system, it doesn't really detect the right stuff. So, I correct the settings in kdmconfig and try them out with F2 with the result that the system 'hangs' ie, nothing happens. Reboot but this time, after setting up the video stuff I press 'F4' as for save'n'exit. Then the installation stops at 'Detecting additional network ....'
I choose 'XFree-VESA' as video driver instead of 'XFree-VESA Ati unknown board' with no luck, I've tried them both....
No matter what I say regarding my monitor, kdmconfig always say its max is 1024*768 at 56Hz interlaced :-(
What I would like to know is if it should be possible to install S10 on my machine?
Motherboard: ASUS P5AD2 Premium (i925X based)
Graphics: ABIT RadeonX700 Pro PCI-Express
Net: Marvell Yukon GBit * 2 + WiFi lan
Controller: Adaptec 29160 PCI + Serial ata drive, the adaptec drives are set as #1 & #2, the SATA as #3
I've read that APCI (?) should be disabled in the BIOS (some kind of power saving stuff), and I've tried both with it enabled and disabled.

After installing, I needed to get into single user mode then run the Xfree86 configuration utility to properly detect and use the video card. I can't remember the exact command line, but it's something like /usr/X11/bin/xfconfig or something similar. After that, the video worked fine.

  • MacOS 10.4 Server installation hangs at language selection

When I rubn the MacOS 10.4 Server installer, it hangs at the language selection menu. This occurs regardless of how I start the installer (either by booting directly from the installer DVD or from within MacOS 10.4 client.) The hardware is a PowerMac G4 (Digital Audio.)
    Help!

Are you able to use the same install DVD on another system (you wouldn't need to go through the whole process, just to eliminate that the DVD is defective).
If you are verify that the DVD is good, you still may have a problem with the DVD on the PowerMac you are trying to install on.
Also be sure that the latest firmware for the system you are installing is up to date.

  • PE8 Hangs after video capture

I am seeing a problem when capturing video via firewire that PE8 will hang when capturing the last clip at the end of the tape.
The tape is about 48 minutes long and has 9 clips. All clips are captured but after the last clip is captured PE8 hangs.
After the hang occurs I see PE8 is using 750M of memory when usually it uses about 350M of memory.
I can succesfully capture the video to Windows Movie maker and CorelStudio Pro X2 without problems.
I see on the Adobe website that the pv-gs120 is a tested device which is basically the same as the pv-gs150 so I am assuming there is not capatibilty problem.
Another interesting thing to note is that on some videos that I have captured from windows moviemaker when I add them to the timeline I see that
PE8 hangs when trying to create the peak file. PE8 Hangs when it gets to the end of the video ( 99% complete) when creating the peak file so I am wondering if this is somehow related to the above capture problem I am seeing.
    Here is my setup:
WinXp Media Center SP3 with all the latest updates from windows update
    Latest quicktime from apple
Nvidia with latest .81 beta drivers
Panasonic pv-gs150 minidv camera connected via fire wire.
AMD Athlon 4200 dual core with 2G of memory
250G HD with 200G free space.

    Hi Steve,
    Thanks for the reply.
I left the program running for a couple hours after the video capture and came back to find PE8 hung.
My guess was that PE8 did not like how the final clip ended abruptly, all other clips had new clips following on the tape. Seems like this was the same problem I saw when I added some avi files captured with WMM to the timeline. I am also suspicious that since this is a reused tape that possibly it could be that some data on the tape after the last clip somehow confused PE8 causing it to hang.
I have not tried any shorter clips yet so I'm don't know if shorter clips work or not.
I have some old clips that I captured with PE3 and they all seem to work fine and peak files are generated properly when added to the timeline.

  • 10.3.9 to 10.4 upgrade, hanging after language selection on initial setup

xserve was on 10.3.9. i ran the 10.4 upgrade dvd. server rebooted and gave me the language selection dialog. i selected 'english' and continued. 'welcome to os x' window appears momentarily with blue progress bar which finishes. this window disappears and then the screen is all blue with a spinning wheel that goes on forever.
i rebooted and tried again. same result.
i booted from install dvd. repaired permissions. renamed /Library/StartupItems folder to 'StartupItemsDisabled'.
    rebooted and same result.
now the installed dvd will only let me do an 'erase and install' which i'd prefer not to do. this server is hosting a filemaker pro server installation.
    any suggestions?
    thanks!

    Hi
You could also try target disk moding the XServe to another mac that has a DVD drive and try from there. Make sure you have a fallback position before trying this as Daddy has already suggested if the disk is bad you might get it installed but subsequently have boot problems with your Xserve.

  • Oracle 9i for NT installation stalls after Database Config Assistant

    Hi,
I just downloaded Oracle 9i version 9.0.1 fro Win NT. During installation, installer hangs after reachinh a point where it reaches "Processing Oracle Database Configuration Assistant...".
    I have following m/c configuration.
Win 2000 Professional, with 256MB RAM.
C: drive 513 MB FreeSpace, D: (where oracle home is created) 3.75 GB FreeSpace.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    DP

I'd like to throw in a "me too" here. I recieve that same
exception and the installation freezes no matter what options I
try to install/not install. I'm trying to install the 9i client
(tried both the client download & the server download, neither
    worked) on a w2k professional sp2 machine. I already got the 9i
server (Enterprise Edition) to install fine on a w2k advanced
server box, up and running seemingly fine. Thought I'd add my
data point. Oh, and the last few lines of the install log look
    like this:
    <<snip>>
    Key = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    SubKey = Software\ORACLE\HOME1
    Value = NLS_LANG
    Query returned : NA
Setting value of b_setNLSLANG to true
    Calling query LangQueries1.3.6 GetOSNlsLang
    nlsLanguage = en
    nlsTerritory = US
    nlsVariant =
Warning :*** Alert: Do you really want to exit? ***
    User selected: Yes/OK
    User Exit
    <</snip>>
Methinks that "nlsVariant = " line is where it failed. Should
be pretty easy for oracle to fixup.

  • OS X Installer Hangs

I downloaded the installer, quit out of Safari (why?), and
then installed the CS3 full install. The installer hangs after a
few minutes - the progress meter still says 'repairing shared
components' (or something similar) and the progress meter is about
    1/3 of the way through.
I tried erasing the install app, redownloading and restarting
my machine. Same deal - hangs about 1/3 of the way through.
I'm currently on FW 8 and have a variety of both Adobe and MM
products installed (multiple copies of some MM ones).
Help? I can't find anything about this issue?

No, I thought about trying that. I just got it to work an hour ago by putting the MBP in target disk mode, rebooting the iMac, and holding option to select the install disk as the boot volume. Installation worked this time.

  • Solaris 10.4 installer hangs

I'm trying to install Solaris on my Sony VAIO PCG-FX805 laptop, but the installer hangs after displaying the text about a license.
The installation check CD that I burned failed at exactly the same point.
According to the HCL Sony PCG-FX804, which is identical apart from a slightly slower processor, is compatible.
Can anyone tell me why installation is hanging and what, if anything, I can do to fix it?

How does one safely recover from this fiasco and "retry"?
Typically this is a failed cleanup, not a failed install.
If you force the system off and then restart and boot into the Safe mode (hold down Shift on boot) you can usually clean up the install. When you reach the login screen, don't login, just select reboot. In most cases this is all that is necessary to "clean up" an install.

  • Installer hanging on selecting Desktop Class

    Morning,
I downloaded the 32 bit Windows 11.2.0.3 patchset from My Oracle Support early on in the week. When I try to install it on a Windows 7 machine, the installer hangs on the 'Installing Database' page after I select 'Desktop Class' and press the Next button.
I had earlier chosen to skip software updates and the create and install a starter database option.
Has anyone else experienced this, are there any log files created by the installer at this point that I can look at or can anyone help with a solution?

    Thanks Srini,
I can confirm I have met all the pre-requirements and don't have spaces in the folders.
The machine being installed on is Windows 7 SP1

  • LabVIEW 8.20 hangs after selecting a custom icon in the app builder

I have been trying to build an executable that uses a custom icon file.  The multi-resolution icon has worked previously in LV7.1.  Whenever I select the custom icon in the build specifications, I can build the executable, but LabVIEW then hangs after that and I can only close it using the Task Manager.  All works fine until I change from the default LabVIEW icon.  And because LabVIEW hangs after selecting the icon, I cannot save the project with the new build specification.

    Hello,
the thing is that even if I create the 256color icon after I save it and close icon editor it takes the 16color icon anyway. If I create an ico file that contains only one icon 32x32 256c Labview displayes warning (see warning.png) and uses default icon for 16c and nothing for black and white (see selected.png)
So how to force Labview to use 256c icon

  • Video hangs after burning on a DVD

    Hi,
after burning a project with menus and several chapters, I notice the DVD is hanging after a few chapters. My DVD burner itself should be ok, I got no hardware failures and it's working fine with Nero Burning ROM. Any suggestions??
    Tx a lot,
    Kristof

You used iTunes to burn the CD? If so, it should work. The question is, did you choose "back up to disc," or did you create a playlist, and choose "Burn playlist to disc?"
If you do it the first way, you are just saving the actual music files (not in CD format) to a CD.
If you create playlist and burn playlist to disc, you are making an actual Audio CD that will play in any CD player.
If you are already using the second method, are you using a CD-R, or CD-RW? Some players have problems w/RW's.
Btw, iTunes songs are not MP3 format, so I don't think you'll be able to find a "converter." LOL

  • CPU hang after Winows XP shutdown.... ??????

Hello. This is my first time havin to ever do this in a long time, so here goes.
    System Specs:
    P4 Prescott 3.0Ghz
    2 gigs DDR 3200 400Mhz
    MSI 865PE Neo2-P mobo
2 Maxtor HD's, one is hooked up via S-ATA
1 DVD Burner and 1 CD Burder
    BFG GeForce 7800 GS 256MB
    SB Audigy MP3+
    Onboard LAN card
PCI Kingston LAN  card for ICS(old and cheap but works good for the purpose)
I have never had this problem before. I am not sure if it is a Windows problem, PSU problem, or Mobo problem.
Computer works great when running. All games and programs run excellent, smooth as a baby's ass. The problem is when I shut the computer down for the day, the last thing that happens when XP is shutting down is that it will say Shutting Down on the screen and when it finally turns the PC off, the cd rom and HD lights remain on and the fans are still spinning. The power button also quit working when this started. I have to shut it off by clicking off the PSU switch. Here is the fun part. When I turn it back on, my 4 LEDs are all red, indicating a CPU failure. Whoa! Slow down! This thing is only like a year old and it is not overclocked or pushed! Temps are always low because artic silver is awesome. I have tried removing everthing in the case to see if it was hardware, including hard drives, and still the same problem. Maybe it's the new video card? Nope. Even when I remove the card I get the same lights, no beeping or nothing. The fans all turn on and work fine. The heatsink is still attached to the CPU well.
So I tried to jump the CMOS jumper to reset everything. YAY! It works again! Life is great! I can get back to playing Heroes V! The night is over, so I shut down again. Boom! Same problem! As soon as Windows XP shuts down completely it hangs again and I cannot restart it. I'm also keeping in mind the fact that my power button is still not working anymore. I removed the connection from the mobo for the power button but it did not help anything at all.
This is the weirdest issue I have ever had. I'm assuming it's a mobo problem cause the power button quit at the same time, but if the mobo had an issue, why would it work fine after jumping it? I need some serious help. As much as I can leave this thing running all the time, I would still like it to rest at night. Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Actually this is a common issue on both MSI and ASUS mobos. I have seen it before. Surprised many here haven't had it. But I build 2 machines a month and have seen it a lot about a year ago.
Heres the deal. I don't think its a hardware issue as much as its xp not knowing what to do.
    Heres where I would start:
    1. Make sure you have the mobos latest firmware. (Although this usually doesn't fix jack)
    2. Guess what, you will have to reinstall windows xp. Sorry.
But it's actually not that bad heres what I would do.
Find a scrap hard disk somewhere. Boot off the cd to install windows xp. as it starts and the blue screen comes up do the following. Wait for windows to say press F6 to add special hd driver. When this comes up press F5 notice I said F5. I actually press F5 and F6 not sure if F5 will do what we want alone but I'd try F5 first. If you press F6 too don't worry you can always skip putting in the hd driver.
I also do not install any SATA drivers if I have non raid SATA installed. I let windows take care of that.
Ok so you press F5 after a minute a window will come up that wants to know what kind of system your running. It used to be you would select normal system. Well scroll up and select ACPI uniprocessor. If you have one CPU. In my case I have a dual core and select ACPI mulitprocessor not sure its a multiprocessor but I don't see a problem. After you select that you install windows as normal.
These new mobos have ACPI and if it isn't selected at install they tend to have issues like this.
I haven't seen this problem again since I did these procedures. I'm not 100% sure this is what solved it. But it used to happen every new install I did about a year ago.
Since I recommend doing it on a spare junk drive it shouldn't be too much of an inconvience to do this. By the way it may also have to do with SATA hard disks but I never pegged that down either. I just know I do not have this issue on new installs anymore. The newer asus boards were always giving me grief like this. One reason I switched to MSI after 15 years of ASUS only.
Oh yeah, just try it with one drive. Keep it as simple as you can. Its only a test setup and can be performed a few times before you get it right. Then you can do it to your real hd.
