S10 RAID configuration = AHCI = Blue Screen under Vista x64

I'm trying to setup a SATA RAID 1 configuration on my new S10 and it's really a nightmare...if I enable the Raid option in the BIOS it enables also the AHCI feature and my Vista x64 (pre-installed on the S10) don't boot, it just show me a blue screen that I don't even have the time to read. If I disable the AHCI option it's ok I can't boot again.
The question is simple, how can I achieve to install an updated AHCI driver for Vista x64 in order to boot and then use the RAID features of my S10 ?
I've tried do download the latest version of the IMSM from Intel (x64 vista version) but it does'nt want to install saying that I haven't the required configuration. My S10 uses an ICH 9 chipset, so I don't understant why I can't install this update.
Please what is the solution to have AHCI and RAID working on an S10 WITHOUT REINSTALLING Vista (I don't have any installation CD and don't wan't to) ???? Note that my system is up to date regarding the ThinkVantage drivers (and windows updates also)
Thanks by advance for your help

I finally achieve to configure AHCI under Vista x64 on my S10 (but still a problem with RAID..), here's how I did :
- Open registry, go to the Key \HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci
- Set the DWORD "Start" at 0 (it was 4 on my system)
- Restart your computer then Enable immediatly the AHCI feature in the BIOS
- Vista will start without BSOD using it's default SATA AHCI driver. Let it detect & install your AHCI periphals before going to the next step
- Install the latest Lenovo IMSM update for S10 from here : http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-69984.html.
- Restart the computer it should boot without any blue screen, go to the Vista device manager and check that your IDE ATA/ATAPI controller is "Intel(R) ICH9 SATA AHCI Controller".
AHCI is active now, but RAID still doesn't work...here's what I did :
- I backup my main HDD with R&R (after having installed AHCI)
- I restart and enable the SATA RAID in the BIOS
- Restart again, CTRL+I to open IMSM and create my RAID 1 array (2x500GB) under the name "Volume0" (all parameters to default)
- Ok, raid array created, I now boot from my R&R emergency CD and restore my backup
- 3 hours later I reboot...and blue screen again just when Vista starts (seems to be the same BSOD than with AHCI)
- if I disable the RAID option in BIOS the (but let AHCI enabled) Vista boots again and everything seems fine, and it seems that my raid array is still configured for Windows since I see a Volume0 drive in the device manager. But RAID is disabled in the BIOS so what ?
I am lost, I spent 2 full days on these AHCI/RAID problems and nothing seems to work correctly. Each test on RAID configuration needs 3 hours of restoration. I am very dissapointed to see how RAID is complicated to configure on the S10, it's is exactly to avoid this kind of problem that I bought a "workstation" and it's a nightmare.
Hope you can help me, thanks.

  • Frequent blue-screen in Vista X64 (late '08 Macbook Pro)

My new MBP is crashing constantly if booted into Vista X64 SP1. This is a fresh installation on a new computer, with no other apps installed yet (mostly because I can't run it long enough to do anything). It only started after installing the drivers from the Boot Camp installer on the computer's installation DVD. Hitting the brightness controls seems to cause it to happen instantly.

Did it happen before you installed the Apple drivers from your OEM DVD? or after updating to 2.1?
This is with Home Premium? Ultimate?
What AV software did you install to supplement Vista's?
I wonder if Apple is lagging in getting needed drivers out to support new hardware, like the "late '08 MBP" models.

  • Itunes 8 - Connecting Ipod cause Blue Screen on Vista

I just installed itunes 8 over my itunes 7 on Vista.
Now whenever I plug in my ipod nano, I get a blue screen death. 3 times so far. even if it is plugged in on boot, I get a blue screen.
Before itunes 8 I never seen a blue screen with vista since it came out.

I think it's safe to say then that either Apple's USB driver shipped with iTunes 8 is broken on Vista, or it's causing a problem with some other common Vista driver.
Are you guys both using the 64-bit edition of Windows Vista?
Also remember to check with your manufacturers to see if there are updated drivers for other devices on your computers. This may help rectify the problem. For Dell (since one of you has an XPS), go to http://support.dell.com and enter the service tag of your laptop and update any hardware driver that's available for you.

  • Quicktime 7.2 under Vista x64

I am using iTunes 7.3.1 under Vista x64 Ultimate with no issues. However, Quicktime 7.2 doesn't work very well.
When I open .mp4 vidoes which run fine under Windows Media Player, Quicktime Player seems to stubmle.
    I get the following errors:
    -The video screen turns green
    -Video stutters
    -Audio seems to play ok
I am running on an AMD 3800 x2 with nVidia 7900GTO video card (using latest WHQL video drivers from nVidia).
Are there known issues with Quicktime with Vista x64?

I have the same issue with QT running on Vista. The new version of QT that just came only made things worse!!! Now the tv shows I purchased from iTunes shuts iTunes down when I try to view them. At first, I was getting the green screen, video stuttering, etc.
I tried ALL the recommended fixes:
    - Changing the settings in QT to take off Direct3D
    - changing the settings in QT to "safe mode"
    - Updating my Nvidia graphics card driver
    - Going into my bios to ensure my hard drive was not using the RAID array
    - Uninstalling QT and reinstalling
This is DEFINITELY a QT (Apple) issue. They simply do not support Vista. I have already stopped purchasing video media on iTunes until QT is updated to run smoothly with Vista.
All that to say... you can search discussion boards all you want, but there is no real fix for QT to run smooth video (audio is OK) in Vista.

  • (D20) Marvell SAS/SATA Controller Utility under Vista X64

    Dear All,
I am the new user for Lenovo workstation. recently I bought D20 for my work. I use the Vista X64 as my O.S. for D20 and I also setup the RAID5 under Marvell SAS Storage Controller.
Everything running well presently, but I can not find the Marvell SAS/SATA Storage Controller utility to monitor the RAID volume under Vista x64 ?
Can you advise me where I can find it or how I can monitor the RAID volume under Vista X64 ?
    Thanks,
    Cody.

    cody,
currently that's the only version available that i could find and the only one listed on the D20 driver matrix page.
all you can do is try installing it in vista and see if it works.   most likely it will.

  • X-fi platinum gives out only static noise under Vista x64

hello. I need some help getting x-fi to work under Vista x64.
the card works great under XP. no problems at all.
under Vista x64 drivers install fine. but the card only outputs very loud static sound. sometimes all the time, sometimes only when I try to play music. when I try to play audio the program usually freezes or acts like it takes much longer to play the sound. for example Vista speaker test shows speaker animation for much longer than normally.
switching to Audio Creation mode usually helps some, but still only static.
switching in Vista Sound->Recording devices causes a lot of static to be generated as soon as I switch to it (and nothing is being played).
sometimes there's no sound at all (programs act normally then).
I've tried all X-Fi drivers I could find (newest and older, including from X-Fi Vista CD) to the same result.
tried 5. speakers and connect to front panel.
tried installing drivers in safe mode. tried clearing old driver after driver un-install to reinstall the driver fresh.
if it wouldn't work under XP I?would have sent it back, bet seeing that it works fine there I can only guess that it has something to do with drivers.
any help would be appreciated. thank you.

if anyone experiences the same issue, reformatting HDD and reinstalling Vista from scratch solved tho problem.
I guess there was some conflict with the previous sound driver.

  • Running resman results blue screen under MAX

Our old PC with NT4 came to end of the road, and we had to replace it with new one that came with windows XP. We use the PC for running Labview 5.1 (updated to 5.1f1) and TestStand 1.01. Our hardware is PCI-MXI-2 and VXI-MXI-2. In VXI chassis we one DIO-128 and one MIO-64E-1 card. We have also PCI-GBIP card installed. Because the old drivers that we had for old PC doesn't work with XP, we downloaded the latest drivers for XP and LV5.1 from NI support pages. We have now NI-DAQ 6.9.3 and NI-VXI 3.3.1 and with them there came VISA 3.2 and MAX 3.1.1
Now everything else seems to be in condition, but if we run Resman undex MAX, at the end of the run, Blue Screen enters and says something about "nidaq32k.sys". It goes away very quickly and PC reboots, so we don't have time to read it. If we run Resman without MAX, PC don't crash, but when we start TestStand, and try to run some test, it crashes again with same "nidaq32k.sys" Blue Screen when initialization begins. Also running Resman before starting MAX causes crashing, when we try to open the "Devices and interfaces" from MAX.
So, should those drivers work with our hardware with XP and LV5.1 or what kind of setup should we use?
Updating LV5.1 for LV7 or 8 is not an option, it causes incompatibility problems with our business partners.
    Regards,
    Ville

I don't understand why this thread is moved here, because I think I posted it under VXI and VME discussion. Anyway, we got rid of the crashing by installing everything again, but this time we installed 488.2 version 2.1 instead of 2.4 we installed earlier. Now it don't crash anymore, and MAX version is 2.2. We have still problems with our GBIP devices, they might need new drivers too.

  • Trackpad and Blue Screen under Bootcamp and XP (SP3)

I have this very annoying problem.
Whereas I run Windows XP in bootcamp and I use the multitouch trackpad the system "randomly" locks and I am presented with a blue screen of death. Other times the audio output is garbled with clicks as I press the pad...
The blue scree happens more frequently when the system is under load and is a VERY NASTY BUG of the trackpad driver that prevents to use the Macbook in mobility without a external mouse.
I am posting this since I didn't find other occourrences in the forum. For the more tech savy I'm running XP Home Sp3 and the Macbook is the first unibody. Also I'd been waiting since Jenuary for a update to this problems but nothins has come up yet - The "apple software update" is pushing just Safari 4 and I think this is hardly going to improve the situation.
    Any hint?

Apple needs to update the Trackpad driver as well as their wireless driver. There was a very long thread going on about the Trackpad driver and BSOD.
The soulution was to disable some functionality, sorry, I don't remember what exactly.
Possibly not related: The Apple wireless (Broadcom) driver causes audio drop outs but can be fixed with an update located on Microsoft's site, the Trackpad driver will need to be updated by Apple.

  • Cisco VPN Client Blue Screen Windows Vista

I am using Cisco Client IPSec VPN version 5.0.07.0410. Installed on a Windows Vista operating system. Blue screen in Windows occurs after I have entered userid and password. Can anyone shed any light on this? I know that Cisco operates fine with XP and Windows 7 but has had issues with Vista?
    Thank you

    Andrew,
Thank you. As soon as we upgraded Vista to SP2, it worked. The issue was with the OS not having the proper updates to interact with the Cisco VPN client.
    Appreciate all the support.

  • Blue Screen on Vista

I had been running iTunes since December on a windows vista ultimate 64bit Sony VGN-SR290 and staying up to date with iTunes. I have had a 40GB Apple TV and recently bought a 160GB version. When I installed the 160 I I updated to the lastest version of iTunes and adjusted the settings so that the 160 was for Video and the 40 is music.
When the 160 is syncing everything works well for about 10 minutes, it finished sync about one movie then crash, Blue Screen. The error is related to IRQL message on the blue screen.
I unistalled/re-installed itunes and got the same problem. I have since removed both of the ATVs and I am not having any issues.
    Any ideas?

Sorry, no idea what is causing the problem or what to try. Thought I would at least let you know it will work. I am running a new system, Dell Quad, with Vista 64. I have an Airport Extreme Dual band, an ATV 160G, (2) Airport Express configured as a 2.4 and 5.0 Ghz networks. It allworks well, the ATV syncs with no problems. I also use an iPhone & a Touch as remotes.
If you are running Norton 360, try upgrading to release 3, that cleared up some problems I was having. Could not see AExt & AExp from Airport Utility.
    Good Luck.

  • Transfer of JPEG Photos to 8gb nano crashes (blue screen) my Vista PC

I have today taken delivery of the new 8gb nano iPod. I have downloaded the latest Itunes and software etc. I have loaded the nano with music without any problem.
When I try to transfer a few JPEG photos from my PC (using the process detailed in the downloaded manual) to the nano, the PC crashes and the Windows Blue Screen (dump screen) appears. I have reduced the resolution of the photos but each time I try to transfer the photos, the PC crashes.
I am running Vista Home Premium OS on a 3 month old fairly high spec PC.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This isn't what you want to hear, but I'm convinced there are lots of incompatibility problems with iTunes and Vista. At some point, Apple needs to acknowledge that audio/video intensive apps (like an iPod) will be run on higher end machines (with Vista) and put some real effort into that OS.
I sync my photos (and even videos) on an XP machine; the only thing I leave to Vista is music (and not even that all the time). Of course, that only helps folks who have access to an XP machine. In addition, I STILL haven't upgraded my firmware beyone 1.0 (still see too many issues with 1.0.2 and 1.0.3).

  • Losing serial numbers under Vista x64/Boot Camp

I have Vista x64 installed under Leopard 10.5.2 under Bootcamp (running fine). I installed a 64-bit version of an animation program that required that I enter a bunch of serial numbers for its various modules. The app ran fine after I finished. But when I exited out to Mac OS and later came back into Vista, all the serials were gone and I had to enter them again. This is repeatable. Any thoughts or suggestions?
    Thanks much.

  • RD230 - RAID configuration

    Good afternoon,
I'm setting up an RD230 (4100 model) and i've stalled at the RAID configuraiton. The EasyStartup cd (3.1.3) keeps telling me that i need to set the SATA mode to SW RAID in the Bios. However the only options i get are "Enhanced IDE" & RAID, neither of which pick up the drives.
I've tried updating the BIOS to no effect. Struggling a bit here if someone could give me a hand.
    Thanks
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

We managed to work around it.
It turned out that what we were sold was incorrect, we were sold 3 SAS drives on a SAS back plate without a RAID Controller.. So the only option was for SW RAID.
We opted to use 4 SATA drives instead of the SAS drives, from this we were able to use the Intel RAID controller on boot up. It literally does flash up in a split second though, so you have to be quick.

  • Blue screen crash Vista

I have a HP m7690n with windows xp and vista dual boot system. XP works great but Vista crashes as soon as i use the keyboard. error crash dump mem.to disk 80 Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL  help . Also i can use vista with no problems until i use the keyboard and i updated to the newest driver
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Hey i think your keyboard drivers are corrupt. Try using On-Screen keyboard and if nothing happens the problem is with the driver.
Delete the driver in Device Manager.
    Restart.
    It will reinstall automatically.
Try using your keyboard in Safe Mode also.
Check your system configurations for Windows Vista and also your Power supply. And if not correct, then the problem may be due to that.
