S10e emergency shutdown when screen opened too much?

Type: 4187-5LG
When the screen is tilted too much the computer shuts down, and I have to remove AC power and the battery for 15 seconds before it can be started again.
I know it has a limit of 130 degrees, but the hinges are quite firm and it is not possible to tell when it is at the limit! - I have read the Hardware Maintenance Manual and was unable to find an answer.
Does the S10e have an emergency switch in the hinge, or am I hurting my new little workhorse?

Solved!
Go to Solution.

This sounds like either a brute force issue, or your machine has issues.  My friend has an S10 and I can open the screen right to the stops and nothing happens.  Note that I'm not pressing real hard, I open it until it won't open anymore and then stop trying to open it more.
If you're sitting it on the floor and doing handstands on the two halves to get it to open more, then that would be the source of your problem.
Since I assume you aren't doing something like that, I'd bet you've got some wiring issue near one of the hinges and something is shorting out somewhere it shouldn't.

Elements 12 screen opens too large to grab lower right hand corner to reduce!  How do I fix this?

Are you on a Mac? Change the screen display resolution (you may need to do this several times) switching back to normal resolution between each change. Eventually the display problem should resolve itself and the PSE window fit within your normal screen display size.

  • Macbook sleeping when screen open and wakes on close

I just repalced a busted screen on my Macbook 13"(white late early 2008) after it had falledn and broken the lcd screen.   Everything went fine and the parts all went back together perfectly and without any uncertainty with teh exception of the small magnet in the left side of the screen frame.
Now wehn I power on the Macbook the screen turns on for about three seconds then goes black. At first I thought it was not booting at all but after I walked away and came back to play with it I found that it finished booting up when the screen was closed. When I opened the screen I saw the desktop for a few seconds then the screen goes to sleep.  I can repeat this over and over all day long.
It looks like it is asleep when the screen is open but wakes up when the screen closes.  I know there is a Reed switch that controls this.  I moved the little magnet back and froth several times and any time it approaches the right area of the logic board the screen wakes up for a few seconds then goes black again.
Is there a reset that can be done to try and knock it out of this backwards mode?  (I have tried Command, Option, P, R while booting but no success)
Is it plssible that I am just holding the magenet in the incorrect orientation?  (I've tried turning it a few different ways)
Is it possible that the fall caused something to be damaged other than the screen?  (can't imagine a Reed switch going bad due to being bumped)
Any advice would be great.  Thanks!

  • How to sync when you have too much music

I have too much music on my computer to sync onto my IPAD.  How do I make lists only and where do I change the settings?

You can create playlists on your computer's iTunes via File > New Playlist or File > New Smart Playlist . Smart playlists can be updated automatically by iTunes e.g. you can create smart playlists that contain a particular music genre and they will be updated automatically if you add music of that genre to iTunes, or you might have a smart playlist of 5* rated tracks etc
When you the sync music to the iPad, then on the device's Music tab you can select which playlist(s) to sync to the iPad

  • Connection issue? Lines on screen, flashing colors when screen opened. HELP

Only when I open the laptop, the top third of the screen is unviewable through lines on the screen, while the bottom thirds lag or glow a whitish green color for a minute. After a minute or so it'll readjust.
This doesn't happen when i put the MBP to sleep with the top open, so I believe that its a connection issue.
What is wrong and how do I get it fixed?

    As you have the Santa Rosa MBP, there is a good chance you have suffered the nVidea curse. Some 8600M GT chipsets failed under high temp usage. Fortunately, there is a Repair Extension Program (REP) that covers this for up to four years from data of purchase at no cost to you. See;
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
The repair requires a logic board replacement. You need to take your computer to an Apple retail store or an AASP for evaluation. I suggest you print out the page I linked and take it with you; some AASPs and even some Apple Store employees are sometimes unaware of the program.

When making a movie with iMovie from Photos, some of them seems to move when watching on screen or TV.
It seems to be a brillance problem but I tried to make the light or the blank lower without result.

    Hello
The movement you see on photos in iMovie is most likely the Ken Burns motion effect, which you can modify or turn off.

  • Extreme switches off when updating podcasts (too much data?) - the saga

    Issue:
When refreshing podcasts the extreme can actually switch off, the status light on the extreme will switch off and it will not appear in the airport status menu. to recover I have to power cycle the extreme. There is no difference if I download only one podcast or allow for simultaneous downloads at a time. After about 1 or 2 times the extreme will just switch off.
Under this same configuration, my iTunes library has no issue playing back any of the content only podcast refreshing causes the Extreme to shutdown after the specified time.
    Configuration:
Three disks connected to the airport extreme using an unpowered hub by technika. All three disks are powered through their own power supplies and are formatted in HFS+ Extended (Journaled)
You can find a youtube review of the hub here, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fihYOsQ1SQ8
iMac running Mac OS X 10.6.5 and all the latest updates. Disk Utility already run on the internal Macintosh HD and there are no errors to report.
Mac is connected wirelessly to the extreme's wifi network using 802.11a (I have yet to get it to connect using 802.11g.
    Workarounds:
Despite the two other disks not being accessed by the mac, as a workaround I conducted two isolation steps.
I removed the other two disks from the hub while keeping the one disk with my iTunes Library connected through the hub, selected podcasts from the left hand side of iTunes and clicked refresh on the lower right corner of the iTunes window to get the latest podcasts to download.
-With the one disk connected to the hub, music playing back and podcasts downloading everything seems fine.
-I am now wondering if it's the hub or a limitation of the extreme or if it's because I am connected using 802.11a.
-Although I didn't finish downloading all the podcasts, I paused all intentionally and switched my mac to 802.11g successfully by changing the radio mode on the extreme to 802.11n only (5GHz) - 802.11b/g
    -relaunched iTunes
    -refreshed podcasts again
-The podcasts all stopped due to an error (sorry for not noting it)
-connected to hard drive directly to the extreme and restarted the extreme for good measure
-airport extreme not visible by mac wirelessly, reset extreme by pressing the button on back of extreme, which didn't do anything for some reason, power-cycled extreme.
-Launched iTunes and refreshed iTunes Library
-I noticed a few things, podcasts stop downloading due to err= -3150 or -3259
-more spinning beach balls in uTunes than usual (disk and network activity are the likely causes.)
-This setup seems flaky at best. Apple does not document this so I don't believe it's directly supported but it would be nice but I can see a lot of caveats beyond what I described.
I don't know if this helps anyone who is trying to do the same but I would say this should be avoided as I don't think the firmware on the extreme can support this, iTunes 10.1 doesn't seem to work well with this setup as there are errors when downloading and it gets a bit sluggish with iTunes experiencing so many disk and network activity issues (beach balls)
Moral of the story, I will go back to connecting my iTunes library disk directly to my mac unless someone has some clever solution or suggestion.
Here are the setting as per Airport Utility in Manual Setup
    Airport Icon>Summary
    Version 7.4.2
Wireless Mode: Create a Wireless Network
    Wireless Security: WPA2 Personal
    Internet Icon>Internet Connection
    Connection Sharing: Off (Bridge Mode)
    Disks Icon>Disks
    3 hard drives connected.
Tried with iTunes Library Disk alone connected through the USB hub and directly into the Airport Extreme in an effort to isolate the issue.
    Disk Icon>File Sharing
    Enable File Sharing - on
Secure Shared Disks: With Airport Extreme password
Airport Disk Guest Access: Not allowed

Hi... mine crashes too, but it has to do with erasing a large amount of files.
I got my airport extreme the other day, very excited to be able to plug my 500 gb drive into it so my wife and I can back up our machines using wireless (time machine). I had already had a years worth of backup on the hard drive, and didn't realize that over the base station the way its backed up is different from when the HD is just hooked directly to the computer.
So, well... took forever to do a fresh back up, and then I went to erase my old time machine folder on my drive and every time I would request the delete over the network... crash the airport. I tried several more times, incl just doing a little folder. I ended up having to plug the drive directly into my machine and erasing it that way (over 700,000 files... so, not sure the Airport is designed to handle all that).
This might explain why the time machine works differently over Airport (and Time Capsule?) as the hardware that Apple uses just isn't up to handling large files. Over Airport it creates a disk image which it writes to, somehow, rather than directly writing a large amount of files to the drive. Seems like a work engineering work around to me, otherwise why change the method?
    Cheers.

  • Dock items when is it too much?

Too many dock items will make your system slow down operating?

The Dock is like an application, and if not mistaken, runs from Core Services
so it really should not see items within it as much of a load. They're like aliases.
You can check up on the Dock in the Activity Monitor utility.
InformIT: Exploring the Dock in Mac OS X Tiger 10.4 - applications & the Dock:

11 ways to Optimize your Mac's Performance:
    http://lowendmac.com/eubanks/07/0312.html
Widgets in the Dashboard can slow the system somewhat. You can get another
widget to help control that usage, it is called Dash Quit and it will quit Dashboard
until you re-launch it. So any held memory or RAM is returned to the system.
My Dock is set to very small icon view, on the right side of the display; and I don't
have too many items in there. All together, counting everything, 27 items including
a docked open second web browser's icon near the Trash. If I print, another icon
appears... and so on. There are temporary changes in the dock, on occasion, too.
I don't know much about the dock itself, just how to change settings, & re/move stuff.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • My screen has too much contrast

There is something wrong with my screen and it is hard to describe. The contrast or brightness is off and I have tried callibrating it using the color calibrator at least 100 times and it does not change it. When i turn my computer on, for the first 5 seconds or so it has normal color but then it goes back to this messed up brightness or something and i just need it to go back to normal somehow. Is there any way i can just go to restore default settings or something? Anything will help.

Just had to reply as well. I had the exact same problem as Jenny after my 16-month old son got ahold of the keyboard. It was driving me crazy! Your fix solved it right away. Thank you sooo much.

  • Clicking noise when screen opened.

    Hello ,
Recently my laptop has been making a clicking sound whenever the screen is opened , not only is this annoying it is worrying.
It also feels as if the optical disk is loose as i can push up on the bottom of the case and hear it move (click)
I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem as i live quite a distance away from a apple store so its not so easy just to take it in.
    Thankyou,
    Joshua

Check if an AASP (Apple Authorised Service Provider) is closer, as some do not trust Geek Squad to diagnose something as simple as "all the keys are missing". But judge for yourself.: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1434

  • Phone screen has too much white on it.

I've had my blackberry torch for almost two years now and I've either had to have it replaced or get it repaired about 7 times now. Now, the issue it that the screen has white lines going down it. They begun only ONE WEEK after I had gotten my phone back from repair after having the whole screen gone white, making it unuseable. But then white lines begun coming up on the right hand side, but as I need my phone for work, I couldn't deal with having my phone in repair for another week, but now it's gotten really bad and takes up about 70% of the screen. So I was wondering if there was anything I could do to fix it? My contract runs out in about a month so I'm not bothering with repairing it, I just want something I can actually use for emails etc until then....
    Thanks!

    Hello,
What you describe sounds like hardware, for which no amount of internet-distance diagnostics nor OS/software level "fixes" can be of any use.

  • HEAT ! When is it too much?

    Hello Folks,
Last evening I was digitizing video footage to a external firewire drive, utilizing Apple's Final Cut Pro application, The clips I digitized were 45 minutes each (3), all clips went in fine, no problem.
My question is: above the keyboard-speakers on the MBPro the computer heat up to where its hot, not warm, HOT -- particulary above the keyboard area. I know its subjective but; is it normal for this computer to heat to that point? Other computer surface area was warm.
    Thanks,
    David Healy

    Hi,
What you are experiencing is not a problem. The MacBook Pros heat pipe for all of the internal components, CPU, SouthBridge, and ATI card all are connected to that heat pipe. The pipe runs right along the back of the MacBook Pro along the FN keys. Thats why it is getting so hot there. While it may be annoying, it is not a problem and is part of the design in the MacBook Pro. Truely, the entire case is a heatsink because it is made of aluminum. You may want to go out and get a laptop cooler, which is like a pad with a couple of fans in it. I know Antec makes a nice model. Hope this helps!

  • USB using too much juice

I have seen several posts regarding this topic but i feel my situation is slightly unique and warrants a fresh post.
I dropped my laptop approx 3 months ago, damaged the left i/o but subsequently have had it repaired/replaced. The laptop is back under warranty but now i have an error message constantly warning me the USB ports are being shutdown due to demanding too much power. Strange since at the time nothing was plugged into them!
I need my laptop 24/7 for the next two months so does anyone have any suggestions other than taking it into the shop for repair??

I am having the same problem with my Macbook pro for the same reasons. I dropped my Macbook pro with a USB trackball in the left port. After a reboot and A Power Management info reset, that I saw on another post, it still persists. I still have my right USB port but not my left. Upon booting to the login screen, I get a message that a device on the USB hub is drawing to much power so it is disabled. Attaching a multimeter to the power points of the USB port showed that there was no resistance between the two (is that normal?). I have gone so far as to de-solder and take out the USB port thinking it was shorting out, but the problem still persists. (I have had some experiance taking apart laptops and soldering so I do not recommend this for most people.)
I am hoping that I can replace the left control board on my Macbook pro to get it working again. The Macbook pro needs more USB ports, two was ok for day to day tasks, but every now and then you need more ports, and a hub just doesn't cut it. Now that I have only one port, I need to fix the other one because it is extremely useful.
When you had your Macbook fixed did they mention anything about replacing just the left IO Board? Or is there anyone who knows if the Left board has the actual Hub used for that port on the card? I would hate to spend $90 bucks on a new left board just to find out that the motherboard was actually damaged.

  • Too much output fails xsql response

    We have a strange problem

About a week ago I wrote about problems we encountered during development when
an xsql page does an insert, insert fires a trigger, trigger calls procedure to process
data, xsql page does a select from output table to return
    We had 2 problems:
    1) ORA-00600: internal error code, arguments: [qmxsqLoadNS], [], [], [], [], [], [], [] Current SQL statement for this session:
    2) Output came not beyond a certain limit
Problem 1 is recognized as bug by Oracle Support in 9.2.0.4, 9.2.05 and 9.2.0.6 Solved in 10.2 Unknown what is fixed
Bug is described in 3872147 . I'm still trying to convince them to do something about it because in 3 weeks we have go live with this
software and my alert is full with this ora-0600 Bug is definitely caused by the trigger
Problem 2 is solved, this was caused by getting output through a xmltype column which in xsql relates to
a plsql string with size limitation on 64k

  • FF dissconnects after opening too many taps

When opening taps in FF7.1 I can get a few taps open without any problem, surfing normaly just fine.
When i open too many taps (normaly around 5) then FF can't connect to ANY pages anymore, not even the ones i had open before.
I've used the current installation for 2-3 months without problems, but after i moved my PC to a friend and back home this problem startet.
I've made a clean installation of FF7.1 only importing bookmarks to get alot of tabs open quick.
All firewalls/antivirus programs have been disabeled, and the rest of the net works just fine.
No error messages of any kind, it just keeps turning the "loading page"-circle untill i get tirred of it.
    Windows 7 home.
Currently i have reverted back to FF6.0 to not go crazy from having to use IE.

FF6.0 does it as well... any idears ?
