S12 battery life started low

Hi,
I just bought an Ideapad S12 because of the publicity it had for long battery life: and it said around 9 hours...
I fully charged and uncharged my battery for several cycles, but it still has only 98% efficiency at 3 hours maximum! After a few months of treating my battery as good as possible (fully charging/uncharging), nothing gets better..it's down to 2h40 max and that's with only internet running and low monitor light.
Do you think my battery simply has a default?
I installed windows 7 from work, official legal software, but now my battery life is down to 2h30, and that's not exactly correct. I feel a bit betrayed as the battery life is nowhere near what i was expecting!!
Help! I will download all software updates, and see if i can at least "install my battery" as it doesn't read installed for now and can't see how to install it. Will that help? Should I use my warranty and go back to the shop where i bought the laptop and ask for a new battery? Or is that only upto Lenovo to fix?
Thanks!!
Virginie

Hi and welcome,
9 (nine) hours ?
... 5-6 hours you could reach with 6 cell battery ....when upgraded to  2 GB of memory ..when you have set some of these settings  Knowledge Base Energymanagement
without upgrade and without these settings 3-4 hours is standard... with 6 cell battery ...

  • Usual battery life on 160gb classic when using iTrip/dock connector mainly!

Hi folks, new to the iPOD scene! I mainly use my ipod in the car with an iTrip(no charger connected) and connected to my hifi(Stereo)with the apple dock (without the charger on so far) Just wondering if I use my ipod in this fashion should battery life be lower? Would appreciate if anyone could indicate what average life of battery should be overall. my typical use of ipod is to and from work (one hours use total per day and maybe an hour in the evening on the hifi. I assume time as well as actual use also contributes to the battery losing charge eventually(as a cell phone does)? any info on this would be appreciated...thanks

The iPod Classic 160GB is certainly not friendly with the Bose SoundDock.

I haven't seen my particular problem on any other forums yet. But this seems a bit extreme, causing such a complete meltdown on a brand new iPod.
I plugged it into my PowerBook around 3:30pm and I could hear clicks coming from the hard drive for the very first time... I am not sure whether or not to be excited because the screen is still dead black (not digital black). So this still isn't resolved, but I can give advice to new iPod Classic owners:

  • Odd battery life issues after improvement w/ 5.1

I have an iPhone 4 GSM (AT&T) that was experiencing significant battery life issues with the previous version of iOS (5.0.1?).
After updating to iOS 5.1, the battery life improved signifcantly - I could now get comfortably through a day with 50% remaining at bedtime versus 20%.
In the last couple weeks the battery life started getting worse and worse, to the point where I could barely get home from work and it would be 10-20%. I started to pare back the settings like Location Services, notifications, frequency of email checking, etc. with no improvement. I noticed the phone seemed to be running warmer than usual, so I thought there may be some software issue causing an infinite loop...
I Reset Network Settings as I've heard that can help - no difference. Then I wiped the iPhone and restored from backup - no difference. Finally I wiped the iPhone and set up as New, only installing a few apps and being very conservative with push, GPS settings etc. I am still down to 20% by 5 pm, and this is with light use. Wifi is on all the time, which is what I primarily use, but it never caused this much drain.
It's also quite variable - the other day I made it home with about 70% battery life, but then it dropped 25% in 30 minutes with only light usage (email/web).
Is the battery itself going bad, and/or is there any way I can test it? I got this phone as a warranty replacement (probably a refurb) in July  2011 so I don't think the battery is that old.

Just an update. I totally wiped my iPhone 4, and turned everything off including keeping it in Airplane Mode and it seemed to help a little - it was over 80% at noon without any use. Of course, the phone is useless like this. As soon as I turned wifi on at work (still left the cellular radio off) it started dropping fast.
It must be the battery going bad, but I was just wondering if there are any other suggestions. I don't want to pay to get a new battery installed if I don't have to, since by this fall I will be eligible to upgrade to iPhone 5 if it comes out.

  • Not Receiving eMail, Battery Life Going Fast

This weekend, all of a sudden my battery life started going fast, and then I was not receiving eMail messages.  I have re-registered all my eMails at att.Blackberry and pulled the battery out to restart my phone.  I can send eMails, but am still not receiving on my bberry.  Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Nathan
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Solved by pinkdaisies...thanks Rock Star!  See below
Finally a solution that worked!! T-Mobile and Customer Care unfortunately were not able to assist, but Research in Motion(RIM) the manufacturer of my phone solved the email problem! Apparently, the older version of facebook causes conflicts with reception of emails.  You need to go into your Options, Advanced Options, then Applications, then choose Facebook.  Click the menu key, and then select modules, then scroll all the way down your list until you see "net_rim_bb_facebook".  Beside it you will see the version number.  You need to have version 1.2.0.35
If you have an earlier version, delete Facebook.  When you delete it you will be prompted to restart your phone.  When you restart, the facebook icon will be on your phone's "desktop."  Click on it, and it will take you to the website so you can download the new version.

  • Is the battery life in my 4G iPod touch depreciating?

I have a question regarding my 4th gen iPod touch. I bought it on Sept. 22, 2012, so it's about 3/4 of a year old. I usually browse the web, watch YouTube videos, play graphics-intensive games like Infinity Blade and GTA Vice City, and I often have it in my dock so I could listen to music. I had it in the dock pretty much all day over the last four days listening to music, and I took it out a few times each day to check Facebook and engage in some hardcore gaming sessions. (I use my iPod touch like how a PSP or PS Vita would be used.) While writing this question, I had the screen at minimum brightness (I'm in bed) and the battery has gone down about 7% since starting this question.
I do follow the full cycle charge, however I often end up doing it more like 6 times a month insted of once.
Is this okay or is my iPod touch's battery life starting to become horrible?

    matthewfrommb wrote:
And I thought that shallow charging cycles were bad for the battery. (I heard that keeping the battery constantly at 90-100% is bad for it.)
Nope, not the case at all with Lithium batteries.  Frequent partial dischage and charge cycles will not harm them, nor will leaving it fully charged and using it plugged in (it has built in overcharge protection circuitry).
As lllaass mentions, it is the older technologies that had issues with recharge memory effects and so forth - NiCAD and NiMH batteries - but Apple dropped those technologies over a decade ago.

  • IPhone 5 shutting down at 45% battery life

My iPhone 5 has been shutting down when it's at about 45% battery life, no low battery warning, just shuts off. When I try to power it back on, it tells me the battery has drained and I need to connect the charger. After connecting the charger it comes back on, again showing that it's at 40something% battery life. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Well if it is a software issue then I would restore the iphone. Restoring the device SHOULD clear up any issues if it is software related. If that doesn't work I would take it into an apple store. Since its still under warranty, let them take a look at it.
Not sure if this has anything to do with it, but Apple recommends that you drain the battery at least once a month and charge to a full 100%. Keeps the battery calibration correct ive been told. Which yours could be just wack ha because of a software issue. Try the restore.

  • Poor battery life after last update

Hello! I got my Z3 in March and when I got it I loved its long battery life. I'm a very heavy user of my phone and managed to get 8 hours of screen on time out of it in between charges. I'm not sure if it has been gradual or sudden but I've noticed that lately, the battery life on my phone only lasts for about 3 hours of screen on time. I use my phone for the same things as I did when I first got it.
When I got my phone it was preinstalled with 4.4.4, I got the 5.0.2 update in mid-april and I got the 5.1.1 update a few days ago.
Here's some screenshots of my battery usage. http://m.imgur.com/JWe4Bt4,ybDx4wq
Also, I have quite a good knowledge of how android works and what can drain battery etc.
When I got 8 hours of screen on time when I first got it I was running google now and google fit (step tracker) and I stopped using those when my battery life started getting worse.
    Please help! Thanks.
    Jack

    Hi @Redindian
You can try boot your device on safe mode like this to see if the issue persists:
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/How-to-boot-your-phone-into-safe-mode/m-p/348008#U348008  Check this link too: http://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiaz3/faq/My-battery-runs-flat-too-fast/
Also I suggest you to first run a backup of the device information like this:
    http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/Backup-amp-Transfer/m-p/407253#U407253
Then try performing a system repair using PC Companion:
    http://support.sonymobile.com/gb/tools/pc-companion/
This will factory reset your phone and erase all data. You might need tocharge your device for about 1-2 hours before so the device has at least 80% battery. Make sure the device is not connected to computer or laptop and turned off (sometimes you have to press power button and volume up until the device vibrates 3 times or on some devices you have to press the small button near the SIM tray or on the back of the device). Start PC Companion and select Support zone then Update my phone/tablet then in Blue Repair my phone/tablet and follow the on screen instructions - When prompted connect your phone still switched off holding volume down or back button - This should start the repair or reformat process. If you are using Windows 8/8.1 or a 64bit operating system then adjust the settings for PC Companion and run in compatibility mode and chose Windows 7 or XP.
I hope can be useful and I'm at disposal for any question.
    Best Regards,

  • Low battery life, heat or noise with Macbook pro? SOLUTION HERE

    Low Battery?
    Warm unit on Idle?
    Loud fan?
    Likely solution is here..
I have a new 15" and had these issues, found the only working solution in the thread below, safe and easy to use. If you are worried do a
time machine backup before doing this.
    Go here
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3191543?start=0&tstart=0
Read post #2, put the command into your Terminal (Found inside launchpad)
           - That command is the following "sudo launchctl unload -w /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.citrix.agadminservice.plist"
type password when asked ( you wont see any characters but it will be accepted when pressing enter)
Restart, battery, heat and noise issue is completely solved, lion is fixed.
You now have a very high quality product, that functions like it should. Macbook Pro still owns.
    Hope this helps everyone out.

Same problem with shortened battery life here with 10.6.2 (2009 unibody 15" MBP 2.53 GHz.) Shutting down and removing the battery seems to have brought fully charged battery life back from less than 2 hours to over 5 again. Didn't bother holding down the power button with the battery out though.
    A few notes:
    1. Prior to the shut down + battery removal, I had noticed unusual warmth despite the CPU being only lightly loaded. Activity monitor showed no app using more than 4% of the CPU, with just a few apps running (Safari, Mail, iCal, Finder).
    2. Months ago, just a PRAM reset seemed to fix the problem, possibly with 10.6.1 or 10.6. Can't remember for sure. But PRAM reset doesn't help any more with 10.6.2.
    3. I have never reset the SMC.
    4. I don't recall this problem happening with any of the 10.5 releases. Just with 10.6.x.
    5. The bottom of the MBP's enclosure is cool again after the shutdown + battery removal.
    6. I am also running 10.6.2 on a 2008 aluminum iMac (20" 2.4 GHz) and haven't noticed any unusual temperatures, but it's much harder to tell. And of course, there's no battery life to measure.
I'll see if the problem returns again, but it really seems like a Mac OS X problem instead of a firmware or runaway app problem. Maybe some daemon is stuck in a busywait loop or something?

  • HT1430 I have the Iphone 5 and just recently updated to IOS 6.1.3 and my battery life is just not what it was with the 6.1.2.  I can start a day at 100% and in 6 to 7 hours be at 18%, (this actually occurred this past Monday) for no reason.

Hello, has anyone had problems with increase rate of battery life depletion?  When I say increased rate I mean loosing maybe 80% in a 7 hour time frame while using the Iphone for nothing more than checking weather or stocks?  This started after I went to the IOS 6.1.3.  Before I could easily get 3 days out of the phone. Now I am wondering if it will hold the charge before I get home from work.

    Hi imobl,
Thanks for your response, I forgot to add that the five 3uk sims we have in use, I have tried all of them none of them are recongnised non of them have pin codes, I even purchased four more sims Tmobile (original carrier) Vodaphone, 3 and giffgaff.

  • Is ipod touch low battery life normal?

I just bought my new ipod touch. I found the battery life is quite short. Every day i have to charge it twice. Now I am keeping to use my ipod touch as less as possible to manage charging it once a day. This is really not compared to a regular phone, which you probably can use 3 or 4 days to recharge again.
The so-called dock adapter inside the box is quite tricky! I thought it is the power adapter. Normally when you buy a cellphone, it comes with the power adapter. But for ipod touch, you have to buy power adapter separately! I even don't know what's the use of this 'plastic' dock adapter. i called Apple and asked "You call this plastic piece an adapter!". It's a little funny!
During my first week using my ipod touch, it got stuck or crashed TWICE, two times! One time is when it downloaded an email with a 8Mb attachement.
In addition, I feel quite confusing with so many accounts with Apple, such as Apple store account, iTune account, iChat account, MobileMe account, and even this discussion forum account. Now I have 3 Apple IDs!
The use of MacBook is so far so good.
This is my experience with Apple's products!
Welcome comments and sharing your experience! i just couldn't help keeping myself silent.

Is ipod touch low battery life normal
Yes and no. Even in normal usage, Safari and videos can kill the battery in 4 - 5 hours, whereas music with the screen and WiFi off should last for 22 hours. Most iPT's can last for days in sleep mode, even with WiFi left "ON".
My previous iPod Touch had no battery problems -- the charge would only drop significantly when being used, not while sleeping. Now I have a replacement iPod Touch (the previous one couldn't install the 2.0 Update), and this one won't even last overnight in sleep mode.
Here's what I did in my last test: Turned all the WiFi services off -- Push: OFF, Fetch: OFF, Location Services: OFF, Ask to Join Networks: OFF, WiFi: OFF. Fully recharged the iPT, disconnected it and left it shut down overnight. Booted it up the next day, full battery (Okay so far). Next, I left the iPod Touch in sleep mode for the entire day (8am - 6pm), still full battery (Great!). At 9:00pm, turned on WiFi (and none of the other items mentioned above), used Safari for about 15 minutes, battery went down one notch ~ 90%. (Still normal) Put the iPT into sleep mode, but this time with WiFi left "ON". Woke up the next morning, and the battery plummeted to 10% in about 5 minutes. (NOT GOOD AT ALL).
My previous iPod Touch would have still had 90-80% battery the next morning. And while I would generally suspect the 2.0 Update being the culprit, everyone else I know has been running 2.0 without any problems -- no installation problems, no battery problems. I've been cursed with both issues in two separate iPods.
(I should also mention. I have not yet had a chance to install any media or applications on this iPod Touch, so there's no chance an errant application has somehow triggered a battery drain. This is just a plain iPT with the 2.0 Update and a restore of my Safari bookmarks.)

  • HT201401 Can anyone confirm that 12 hours of low to moderate use is acceptable battery life for an Iphone 5. That is all I am getting. I am using the phone less than I have used any Iphone I have ever had. The battery life between charges is less than hal

I am very disappointed with the battery life I am getting out of my Iphone 5S 64G. I charge it every night, and would be lucky to make 15 to 20 minutes of calls during the day and yet I am lucky to get much more than 12 hours of life out of the battery.
I have to make a conscious decision not to use it to avoid it running out on me. I had it back to the Apple Store last week and they ran diagnostic checks on ot and said that the hardware was within specs.
They replaced the software as it was showing that Springboard had crashed on several occasions. The other problem I was complaining about was that at least 2 or 3 times a day, the phone would refuse to wake up when I hit the home button. It would take sometimes up to a minute of pressing the button before anything would light up. The guy at the Apple store said that this was caused by Springboard crashing and that this would also be what is reducing the battery life.
I did notice that after they replaced the software, the waking up problem appeared fixed for a few days, but the battery life had not improved. Now the waking up problem is starting to return.
It is very annoying and somewhat embarrassing when you are with a client and go to make a call and your shiny flashy new Iphone 5 won't even light up. Especially when you have to borrow your clients Nokia....

My best bet would be to restore the phone. Back it up to itunes, and then reset it Factory settings. This way, any corrupt software will be removed, and you can start fresh. Make sure you back it up first. By the sounds of it, you are using the phone for business and probably need the data from it. Hope this helps!

  • 15" MacBook Pro runs hot, fan is loud, and incredibly low battery life

My 15" MBP was bought in March or April (can't remember) from Singapore Apple Store. Here are the stats:
    MacBook Pro 15-Inch, Late 2011
    Memory 8 GB 12222 MHz DDR3
    Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
Also I'm using about 1/2 of the available 750 GB of storage.
    Here's what's up:
    1. The fans boot immediately after the computer is turned on and never stop, making everything much too loud...like a plane is taking off or something.
    2. The computer is WAY too hot. Right now I'm running Astrill, Chrome, Activity Monitor, and System Utility, and when I put my hands on the thing it feels like my fingers are going to melt.
    3. The battery life, even at a full charge, is about an hour overall, which ***** for so, so many reasons.
    Here's what I've tried:
    1. I took it to the Shanghai Genius Bar, but I think that the language barrier is impeding my ability to really say what's wrong. I backed up, and they wiped the hard drive, re-loaded the OS and put all my old stuff back on the computer. They also deleted SOMETHING from the Preferences part of the library, but I don't know what it was. Everything runs much faster now, but the fan, the heat, and the battery are still having their issues.
    2. I've checked the "all processes" CPU usage. There's nothing unusual (as far as I can tell), so I'm at a serious loss as to say why the computer is running so hard. Even with all the processing running as you see below, the fan's still blasting and I've lost 50% battery life in the past 40 minutes.
    3. I've tried the fix that requires deleting com.apple.desktop.plist and com.apple.desktop.plist.lockfile. It changed the way the desktop looked and absolutely nothing else.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE help me! I'm a graphic designer and often run the CS6 Suite. (Currently, however, I am NOT running any Adobe programs and I'm still experiencing the problems.) It's really important that I am able to run Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign at once, and it CAN, but with the heat problems I'm having without ANY of the graphics stuff running, it worries me.

Just took another look at iStat Menus (I've only had it for a couple of days - I used to use the old iStat Pro widget) and it seems as if you can make fan speed defaults and use them instead of relying on your MBPs sensors to take care of the fans... see...
Might want to use that 'medium' speed (there by default as I know I didn't add it) and keep an eye on your temps. If you start heating up to much, go back to the 'Default'.
