S12 Nano locks up and ignores mouse/keyboard

I'm experiencing frequent lockups, where the system ignores mouse clicks and keyboard input. The mouse (external usb or trackpad) will continue to move, but clicks and taps are ignored. The windows key still works, and the system responds to ctrl-alt-del and Fn keys - and nothing else. It doesn't seem to be a hardware problem. In fact I'm convinced its a driver issue, or a problem with Win XP altogether mishandling interrupts on the new nano platform. Any ideas?

Sorry to hear you're also having trouble, although its nice to know I'm not alone. I'm still having issues where Win XP ignores input on occasion, and I'm sill convinced its a windows (or perhaps driver) issue, as I've been able to free it a few times by killing a stuck application. It always responds to ctrl-alt-del to bring up the task manager, so I can usually get the system unwedged - at the cost of losing whatever I was working on in the app that fell asleep on my interrupt, or whatever sort of nonsense causes this. I stopped using it for any meaningful tasks after the first couple of episodes, but I may end up running ubuntu on it - if for nothing else to prove to myself that it isn't a hardware issue

As for detecting key input, you can add a keydown/keydown event to the document quite easily.

First of all, Welcome to the  Discussion Forums!
By "my mouse and keyboard don't work" do you mean that the screen is frozen at this point but you see your mouse cursor on the screen and it won't respond or is there no cursor displayed?
Are you using a third party keyboard and mouse or an Apple keyboard and mouse? Can you post what model keyboard and mouse you are using?
Have you tried a different keyboard and/or mouse if possible? And have you tried plugging the usb cable into a different usb port to test?
What specific computer model are you using?
You really should go to the sidebar at right ->-> "My Settings" and fill in your computer specs. This helps tremendously when users are trying to help.

Mouse+Keyboard Freeze and LOUD fan noise...

Seems to be a few similar threads, so here we go...
Just got my iMac G5 20" 1GB Ram (OS 10.4.3) 2 days ago. All went well and suddenly, mouse + keyboard froze. About 10sec later, the fans kick iun, VERY loud. Never stopped for 2 hours.
If I reboot, shutdown and restart, do all the kind of troubleshooting you can read, it always starts again int he grey screen with the Apple and the fans at max revs, VERY nousy.
Eventually it goes away. But about 1 hour later, same story.
I ran the Apple Hardware test and all tests came PASS but there was originally a memory error POST/0/2048 notice. But the 1GB memory test passed...
Had a chat with the Apple Agent support, said this code shows a hardware component failure.
Have to bring back 10KG of EXPENSIVE Apple HW to the store tomorrow.
Great way to spend Xmas indeed
Any comments or suggestions?

When does this happen exactly? On Toshiba screen or Windows startup screen?
Are you running factory settings or another OS?
I think its hard to say why this happens. It could be software or hardware malfunction
Fact is you can test the RAM modules using Memtest86 or another diagnostic tool. You can ask Google to find it, its freeware. Just download an iso image and create a bootable CD/DVD. If you boot from this disk you can start the test.

Mouse & Keyboard freeze

Please help... my G4 and my mouse & keyboard are not communicating. I have 2 other Macs in the house & the mouse & keyboard work just fine on those computers. I also have a wireless Mighty Mouse that doesn't work with my desktop Mac either...works fine on my laptop.
I can turn the G4 on & off, but cannot use it. I am stumped.

First, try lugging your keyboard into your other USB port. Try a USB device in that port. Is the port good?
Are you using a wireless mouse & kb? New battery?

Safe boot mode runs a directory check command similar to that used by Disk Utility's repair. In Tiger it ignores some stored information (cache) that is normally read that speeds up the boot process, and it moves some other caches to the trash. It also uses only System fonts and disables all Startup Items and any Login Items.
If that doesn't help then boot from you installer disc to run Disk Utility to repair your drive and permissions.

Can you use the browser and search the web by utilizing a speach recognition program instead of the mouse & keyboard ?

I would like to know if Mozilla's ( Firefox Browser) can integrate with and utilize a speech recognition program, I would like to have control of and be able to use all of the browsers functions while navigating the web using voice commands (only) ,instead of having to use a mouse & keyboard. If the browser does have that capability, are there any issues I need to be aware of and are there any tutorials or web pages Mozilla can suggest that will help with this.

Mouse/keyboard non-responsive, system locks up

I have a Touchsmart IQ816. At times the wireless keyboard and mouse become unresponsive and the system seems to lock up. I can see the blue light that comes one when I type or move the mouse is on solid and does not turn off. The touchscreen beeps like I am touching it but nothing happens on the screen.
I am not sure if the lock up is the wireless reciever locked up and nothing works on the screen because there is no input, or if the system itself is locking up.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Apple AL Bluetooth Keyboard - Tab, Caps Lock, Function and Control keys just stopped working

Hi All -
All of a sudden I get on my baby, 27" iMac OSX 10.6 and the some keys on the bluetooth keyboard do not work. Specifially the Tab, Caps Lock, Function and Control keys. I'm fine with the caps lock gone (why is it there?) but the others are useful.
I've searched all over for a solution but I haven't found one. Tried to upgrade the firmware which is fine, reset the PRAM done, checked the speech per apple support nadda.
Please help.

Go to System preferances > Universal Access > Mouse or Mousie and trackpad > and turn your Mouse keys off.
Then disconnect and reconnect your keyboard.
Note that you don't open your mouse under hardware in System Preferances, this is for a whole different group of settings

I suddenly have two flashing lights on my keyboard by the caps lock key and over the end/pg up key.

I encountered a problem waking my laptop (Pavilion dv7-1270us) this morning. At first it would not wake up and had to do a hard reboot. Now I have two flashing lights on the keyboard -the caps lock light and the one over the end/pg up keys over the number pad. I have run several diagnostics and cannot find an answer as to what this is.

No, nothing will prevent the computer from going to sleep when you close its display except third-party hacks that are designed to do exactly that. I strongly advise against using any of those, as they may interfere with successful entry into clamshell mode (and they carry other downside risks as well). Just wait until the computer is asleep (with its sleep light pulsing), then press any key on the keyboard. It sounds as though your setup is working as it's designed to do.

Anytime i wake up my computer, my keys don't respond and I've waited at most 3 minutes untill i can type in my password. Even sometimes when i type in my password and hit enter, it takes forever to open up my mac. I have barely used any storage in my macbook, since i only use it for college, and I have run clamscan wiht no viruses showing... Any ideas?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output andWi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Brand new iMac cannot pair bluetooth keyboard and magic mouse

Hi there!
Just received brand new iMac 21" yesterday. Unboxed it, turned it on and none of both bluetooth devices (keyboard and magic mouse) managed to get paired.
I was able to connect a USB mouse to log into the Mac. Did all turn off/on Bluetooth, turn off/on iMac several times with no luck. Weird thing is that when I lift keyboard on a 30 degree angle above my desk it seems to actually pair with the iMac but then when back to original position it disconnects.
I've tried the magic mouse with my 2008 Macbook and works flawlessly. After several attempts never managed to pair magic mouse with iMac and as said earlier keyboard is not working on a standard position on my desk. It is frustrating to have paid close to 2,000$ for something that does not even work out of the box... Any ideas or suggestions?
I'm planning to take it today to nearest Apple Stores but have a bad feeling about "genius" folks being able to help me out. Would be worth changing iMac for new one?

Thanks Barry! If SCM reset means the following:
SMC RESET
Shut down the computer.
Unplug the computer's power cord and ALL peripherals.
Wait 15 seconds.
Attach the computers power cable.
Wait another 5 seconds and press the power button to turn on the computer.
I've done that several times yesterday with no success. "SMC Reset" sounds quite fancy but then you google it and find that is a "simple" shut down and restart protocol... I tried "shutting down" by both selecting option via OS and also physically on the button behind screen.
I appreciate the help but unless I've done that "simple" protocol wrong it is not working.
Sorry for the frustration from my side. It just seems too much of a vague story when you hear Apple friends talking things about "the best OS", "best desktop",...and then you pay about $2,000 and find this yourself.
If anyone else interested I commit to keep this up to date with the feedback I'll get from "genius" folks today. Hopefully they'll prove themselves to live up to their position naming.

The monitor will work if it has an HDMI, VGA ir DVI input. If it only has a VGA input you will need this adopter
