S205 - Camera image is VERY red!

I started using the built-in camera on my S205 with Skype this week (the first use ever, with any application), and the color is very, very red.
So far, the only color adjustments I have located have been via the Cyberlink YouCam app (ver. 3.1.3623 - Standard), by selecting the icon for "Video Enhancement" and then selecting the "Advanced" radio button.  This gives me access to 6 sliders, Brightness, Contrast, Gamma, Hue, Saturation and Sharpness, all of which are set to 50 by default.
I have reset Brightness to 45; Contrast to 81; Gamma to 20; Saturation to 10; and Sharpness to 100.
But the one I really need to adjust is Hue, and moving that slider does absolutely nothing. 0 is no different from 100.
My sense is that this is a busted driver.  Is a more recent version available?
FYI, the current driver is from Vimicro, dated 9/21/2010, ver. 1.10.921.1.  Here is a link to the Vimicro download page: http://www.vimicro.com/english/product/pc003.htm  All of the files have dates older than the driver that is installed.
Anyone know how to fix this, or have a source for a more recent driver?

    Hi,
    Yesterday my webcam (built into the laptop) worked perfectly, today it doesn't....
    Whenever I use it now, the image is very grainy, almost like a tartan pattern of criss-crossing lines, but I can still just about make out myself in the background. Movement and sound are still being recorded, just the image is strange.
    Please help! Has anyone else had this happen? Is this something I can fix myself, or is it a hardware problem? I have had this laptop about 3months, from brand new, and this is the first problem I've had...

    Thanks for the tips, but I'm afraid my camera is still out of action....
    I've double checked that the protective lens film has been removed, and I've disabled/re-enabled the camera device, updated the camera driver, and completely reinstalled all the camera software to no effect. I've also ruled out conflicting software issues, as the problem persists for both skype calls and the laptop's face recognition software used when logging into my account.
    The frustrating thing is that the fault happened suddenly halfway through a skype call. It was working perfectly on minute, and broken the next (seemingly irreversible.... fingers crossed). I had used skype for a mammoth 3hr call the night before, but I hope that wouldn't have "burnt out" the brand new camera...
    Do you, or anyone else, know if sounds like a physical problem? Are web cam hardware faults common? I have never dropped the laptop, though it does commute with me on the train into work everyday...
    When I first got the laptop, the inbuilt fingerprint scanner didn't work very accurately until I updated the driver software. Is it common for faults to suddenly appear when drivers become "out of date"? Any chance these problems could be related?

  • Facetime camera image is very dark.

    It was working ok but since the kids started using the effects today the image is always dark. This is the same for facetime and using the camera in the photobooth. Took a photo but cannot see image. The room is well lit but this does not seem to help. Any ideas why this is ?

    I’m sorry to hear that the webcam driver is not installing completely in your G510 Laptop, I suggest you to download the driver once again and then while installing the driver right click on the downloaded file and select “Run as administrator” option to get it installed without any error.

  • Student using HDR first time - image very red, ok after update ONCE, then red again

    I hate to ask in a room full of pros, but here we go. Using WIN7 64 bit
    Purchased CS6 and takiing first class. CS6 ver 13.0.1 64 bit.
    We are learning about HDR. We have been provided 3 dng images of a model (a young lady) to work with.
    I have done the same thing four times and the opening image is darker with a lot of red.
    File_Automate_Merge to HDR Pro
    I select the tree images (they all look nice)
    Make sure the "Attempt to Automatically Align Source Images box is checked"
    Click OK
    PS makes layers, one being a merge to HDR pro layer
    Arrgghhh. I just installed the update (I was using 13.0 64 bit) just before posting this and was going through the motions as I typed in here and...... the image opened perfectly and I was able to do the lesson. However, I tried to do it  a second time, just to make sure...it is very red again. Any help please?

    Your video cards display is usually 16, 24 or 32 bits total. The settings used in photoshop are for each channel.
    There are 3 channels for the monitor Red, Green and Blue. Each having 8 bits or 8+8+8= 24 bits or 16777216 colors as there are 256 color per channel and 256 3rd power is 16,777,216.
    So a 32 bit video card would be 256 to the 4th power.
    Now back to photoshop, 16 bits per channel is 512 colors per channel or 512 to the 3rd power or 134,217,728 colors
    Therefore 32 bits per channel would have 1024 colors per channel or a total of 1,073,741,824.
    Keep in mind for this example I only used the RGB channels, photoshop is capable of creating multiple channels, granted these extra channels are primarily used for tansparency, masks, and selections. But in theory one day these extra channels could be used to display extra color information on the screen along with the main RGB channels.
    To prove this, just switch to CMYK, that mode is displaying 4 channels instead of 3 on the screen. So who's to say that one day someone will create a new color mode that all monitors will adopt as a standard? Photoshop is ready and waiting, most of the coding is already done.
    Anyway I am getting off subject a bit, so I better stop...

    The image is solid red and not my image. I have been working on an image and several layers of work done on things like white balance, color cast.  When I add a CAL I cant get to ACR at all. If im on the previous CAL I can open in ACR but with the red image.   I am on a Mac 10.8.5 Have the latest version of CC installed. Help!
    An hour later I went back and on a copy of my Background layer, I opened the image in ACR.  So what are the parameters of ACR that I don't understand?

    You can't do that in ACR, but you can if you open it in Photoshop and use the crop tool there.

IT WAS SUPER FINE IN PREVIOUS VERSION. PLS. DO THE NEEDFUL TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. ALSO BATTERY IS GETTING DRAINED VERY QUICKLY. DON'T KNOW WHY BUT IT WAS NOT IN PREVIOUS 4.2 JELLYBEAN. MY PHONE HAS BECOME SLOW ALSO. PLS RESOLVE THE ISSUE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

    Since Reset is not helping, Restore iPhone with iTunes on computer. If this does not fix problem, consider replacing camera or entire iPhone.

  • Satellite S70-A-11H web camera image quality is not good

    Hi,
    Running windows 8.1 which came with the laptop.
    New out of the box.
    As per title.
    I find the image quality of the camera image to be very grainy, poor color etc.
    When I start the web camera using the search bar on the right, it starts using the Microsoft application, when you scroll down to settings all that is available under settings/options is Photo aspect ratio, Grid lines, Location info.
    I have been in touch with Toshiba Tech support who advised to do a Laptop refresh, which I did.
    This made no difference.
    After which they asked me to find the Toshiba web camera application on the laptop, this should have been in the Program Files folder in the Toshiba folder.
    This application does not exist on my laptop.
    The tech checked the same model laptop that he had available, which I was told when he selected the web camera, it opened using the Toshiba Web camera application, not Microsoft.
    I have looked at other Toshiba laptops with web cameras, and found the image quality to be better. Unable to get to settings as these laptops were on display and in demo mode, hence locked down to some extent.
    I can't believe that a web camera in this day and age for this value of laptop to have such poor image quality. My digital camera from 10year ago has better image quality.
    I have checked through the laptop, and I do not have this application installed.
    I have checked for updated drivers and software for my laptop, and cannot find this application to be applicable for my laptop. Drivers etc appear to be up to date.
    I would like to know, do other users of this S series have any issue of camera image quality.
    When the camera is selected what application is being used, Toshiba or Microsoft.
    Is Toshiba web camera application applicable to Windows 8.1, as I cannot see it listed for 8.1
    Does this sound like a hardware fault or a application/software issue.
    Any direction or help on this matter would be appreciated, as I am getting to the point of returning this laptop for a refund.

    The Toshiba webcam application is available for Win 7 system but the Win 8 and Windows 8.1 system use the own Microsoft webcam application.

    Different Toshiba notebooks are equipped with different webcams.
    Satellite S70-A-11H was equipped with a *0.92 mega pixel webcam*
    A Satellite A660 for example was equipped with an _1.3M mega pixel webcam_
    So there is a difference in webcam resolution

  • Two Simultaneous USB Camera Image Acquisition and Saving

    Hello everyone,
    Recently my friends and I have begun a project which requires the simultaneous acquisition of images from two independent USB cameras. Throughout our project research we have encountered many difficulties. The major problem appears to be how to successfully interface two USB cameras and properly save the image to a median for further processing down the road.
    Our first attempted at this was with the USB IMAQ drivers. Unfortunately, to our surprise, it does not support two independent and simultaneous camera acquisitions. To combat this problem we implemented a crude loop of closing a camera reference, then opening the other, acquiring an image, then closing, etc... This did provide us with functionality but was very inefficient, resulting insufficient acquisition speeds.
    Afterwards we began looking at other ways of capturing and writing the image, which are listed below.
    Various Acquisition Interfaces / Strategies
    USB IMAQ Driver - USB interfacing kit available for public download, (not officially supported by NI) zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/5030
    Status - Abandoned because of the lack of dual web camera support
    Avicap32.dll - Windows 32 DLL responsible for all web camera communication, and other media devices.
    Status - Currently acquired two streams of video on the front panel but with no way of saving the images
    Directx - The core Windows technology that drives high-speed multimedia on a PC.
    Status - Currently researching.
    .NET - Microsoft .NET framework, possibly a valid interface to a video stream.
    Status - No development until further progress.
    We are still currently developing the Avicap32.dll code but the major bottleneck is the learning curve on the property nodes, library calling nodes, .NET and other references. So far it’s been a tedious effort of trying to understand example code and piece them together. As a former programmer of C I know this is not the proper way of writing code web I can’t seem to grasp how these functions work. (Property nodes, library calling nodes, .NET and other references). Learning this may allow us the knowledge to code a proper system. Does anyone know any good tutorials or learning material for such functions? So far my research has come up empty handed.
    We are currently working with these interfaces and other reference examples on the NI site. Unfortunately we cannot seem to properly integrate the code for our system. Does anyone know if this setup is even possible? Also, if anyone has any experience with similar systems and can offer advice, code snippets, or any other assistance it would be greatly appreciated.
    Our current projects will be posted below if you have any suggestions. (More will be added when I get to my desktop tomorrow)
    Two Camera Avicap32.dll - Currently stuck on how to save the image, various tweaks have gotten us stuck at this point ( will have another Avicap32.dll implementation posted tomorrow)
    USB Capture Example - This USB capture VI was an example that immediate had problems. We used it as a baseline for crude open-close camera image grabbing system. (Will also be posted tomorrow)

    Thanks for the information but that's not exactly what I'm looking for. I've been to that URL and read the information before. I don't mean to disparage you help but I'm looking for ways that I can successfully implement a functional system, not information on an unfunctional method. Maybe I was unclear before, I'm looking for any advice, knowledge or help on how to make this system properly work.

    When I export a photo from lightroom, the image is very pixelated. This pixelization occurs irrespective of whether I make adjustments in Lightroom.  It seems that just placeing the photo into he develope modual  without doing anything to it taints the image in such a manner that when it is exported from the develope modual the expot comes out pixelated.

    The photo i was a panorama knitted in Photoshop from four photos which were approx 3.3 MB each. The knitted pic came out to be 1.10MB. The panorama pic I was trying to refine in Lightroom and export came out to be 70.9 KB and extremly pixilated. Whether I altered it  in Lightroom  or not didn't matter.
    I can't imagine that bringing up the photo in the Develop modual would result in pixilization when it was exported regardless of whether it was altered or not altered.!!
    Attached is  a copy of the Photoshop saved and Lightroom exported photos before and after. I appreciate your help and interest. The top pic 1.10MB is what was saved on Photoshop. The bottom pic 70.9KB is the unaltered pic exported out of the Develop modual exhiiting the pixelization.

    The images on the main screen are very fuzzy, both camera's front and back, is this true with all ipads? I also have an iphone the images are very sharpe.

    The camera on the iPhone is a lot higher resolution (5 megapixel for stills). The iPad is less than 1 meg (I think), so unless you have very good light the pictures are likely to be grainy - they are really for use with video type calls such as with FaceTime or Skype

    Yeah, I see this all the time.
    Sodium street lamps are not flat-spectrum (why not? Don't they know people are shooting video?) And you get this illuminant error.
    So.... white balance isn't going to work, is it? Those highlight streetlamp are already clipped out to R=G=B, aren't they? Black balance is probably right, too, because R=G=B=0 down there. What does that leave?
    Mids. You can probably push a lot of cyan-blue into the mids. If you find this contaminates the blacks too much, then the fall-back might be go into secondaries and do an H-S qualified matte, and give the blue-cyan vector a big push.
    What, you mean this isn't a suspect running away from an arson? Could be correct in the right context, is all I'm sayin'.

  • Windows XP can no longer "see" my iPhone as a camera/imaging device

    can't sync photos from iPhone to computer; Windows XP doesn't even see it as a camera or imaging device. Weird, since iTunes is able to synch music/contacts.
    No matter how I check, Windows XP can't find the device:
    control panel --> scanners and cameras - nothing!
    My Computer --> devices with removable storage - no iPhone
    Computer Management--> Device Manager - no iPhone or scanner/camera

    UPDATE - I think I've resolved my problem and that it is related to having my iPhone "passcode locked".
    1. I connected it and unlocked the iPhone, synced music, but had the problems I noted in my original discussion post
    2. I disconnected the iPhone, closed iTunes, reopened iTunes and reconnected the iPhone (making sure it was NOT passcode locked before connecting it) -- everything works fine.
    3. now I can get back to my original issue, was to figure out how to get only my NEW iPhone captured photos to synch, or at least have them date ordered. But that's a subject for another post.
    BOTTOM LINE - passcode lock may be the key for those who are having problems with their PC not able to see the iPhone as a camera/imaging device

    Since it's a new machine, contact Apple Service, iMac Service or Apple's Express Lane. Do note that if you have AppleCare's protection plan and you're within 50 miles (80 KM) of an Apple repair station, you're eligible for onsite repair since yours is a desktop machine. That also might apply to newly bought ones inside the first 90 days.
    FWIW, IMO, the AppleCare extended plan's the cheapest insurance you can get for your new desktop machine.
