S206 Windows 8 64-bit drivers: Not a smooth install

I've just taken the plunge for Windows 8 via the upgrade offer, but seeing as I already got a copy for my desktop PC with the 64-bit disc included, and that the S206 I bought came preinstalled with 4Gb of RAM (almost half of which is unusable in a 32-bit environment), I decided to boot from the 64-bit disc through an external USB DVD rewriter and install fresh. I had previously made sure that the Lenovo support site had Windows 8 64-bit drivers available.
Well, was I in for a shock.
First of all, practically every installer tried to extract to the C:\Drivers folder, dumping all the files in a single subfolder with no hierarchy. Then it tried to access the individual files from sub-subfolders which didn't exist. The only way I could get them to install was to create the folders it was missing as the error messages cropped up, dump a copy of the driver files into those folders, click retry, and repeat until it said it was done.
Secondly, the Catalyst drivers didn't find any graphics card. I downloaded the latest version from the AMD website, and that picked it up fine.
Thirdly, when I installed the audio driver, it said that the device I had was not the one that the drivers were intended for, and it would install generic drivers instead.
Fourthly, the Lenovo energy management program defaulted to the balanced profile which was the only one to totally disable the backlight to the LCD screen. Boy did that one take some time to sort out.
Fifthly, installing the wireless and Bluetooth driver seems to have not added in Bluetooth. I'm fairly sure it had Bluetooth to start with. The network adapter is still using the Microsoft driver.
Sixthly, the webcam does not appear in my devices list. Skype can't see it at all. Neither driver supplied on the website can actually find a device. I have just had the laptop back from repair due to a faulty keyboard, and I've not actually had a need to test it before now so I wonder if it maybe was left disconnected or maybe the camera in the screen frame is a dummy - I may have to restore the old Windows 7 operating system to check that...
Finally, when I tried to install the Synaptics touchpad drivers, clearly marked as 32 and 64 bit in a single installer, the installer told me it's not designed for a 64-bit system and told me to get the correct version from my vendor! The Synaptics website doesn't have Windows 8 drivers up yet.
So basically the default drivers leave the PC in a working condition but I currently have no Bluetooth, no webcam, I'm stuck on either high or low performance energy management, basic audio with no options, basic touchpad with no configuration.
So, for Lenovo: Your drivers leave a lot to be desired and need reviewing.
For other users: If you want to adopt 64-bit Windows 8, prepare to spend a lot of time fiddling with drivers.
For anyone with more knowledge than me: Can anyone suggest how I might get the above hardware fully functional?

After seeing that Lenovo have updated some of their installers, I decided to give it another go and see if I could get 64-bit Windows 8 on it.
First hitch, it was a bit of a struggle getting the computer to recognise the USB DVD drive. In the end I had to plug it into the USB2 port (The not-blue one), go into BIOS, save and exit and immediately go back into BIOS before it would be recognised as hardware.
It seems Lenovo overhauled all their installers, because they all extracted with the correct folder hierarchy. The only problem was with the "WLAN Driver and Bluetooth Driver (Ralink, Atheros)" (0swg11ww.exe) which totally failed to find the correct target installation executables after extraction. Also I'm sure this laptop had bluetooth connectivity but it didn't find any bluetooth hardware, but I'm not bothered too much about that as I use Logitech devices with unifying recievers anyway. When I finished installing them manually I checked on a tip-off I read elsewhere on these forums that the installer keeps the computer using the Microsoft driver, rather than switching to the Broadcom driver. I told it to change drivers (Some fiddling about in Device Manager) and it works fine.
Lenovo Energy Management still installs with the "Balanced" profile having zero backlight brightness, totally out-of-line with the other two profiles. I note that while the RSS feed says Lenovo Energy Management was updated on 29/11/2012, the download page says the latest version available is the initial 24/10/2012 release. Also the WLAN/Bluetooth driver was supposedly updated on 09/01/2013 but the download page says the latest revision was released on 09/12/2012, and when I installed the AMD Catalyst graphics drivers (supposedly v8.0.881.0) it actually installed the latest version (v12.10).
Clearly in the case of the Catalyst drivers the page hasn't been updated to reflect the updated driver release, but the on the other hand Lenovo Energy Management software doesn't appear to have been updated at all. At least I have a copy of all the install files now though, so I can tell if anything does change by inspecting file sizes.
The computer is now in as useable a state as I would like it however, and this time it was for the most part a fairly smooth install.

i'm not sure your expectations are realistic.  ps 5 was designed for win95.
you can't fault adobe for failing to design ps 5 so it would be compatibile with an os that wasn't in existance when ps 5 was released.
to be sure, adobe did not  warrant their software would work with all future operating systems.  and no other software company can or does make such a claim.

  • Windows 8.1 Pro not booting after install of Hyper V - ASUS z87 + intel 4670K

    Hi,
I am running windows 8.1 pro on a intel 4670K 4th Gen Haswell CPU and ASUS z87 plus motherboard. 16gb of kingston hyperx ddr1600 memory.
I have enabled virtualisation technology in the bios.  CPU has SLAT.... or Extended Page Table, as intel likes to refer to it.
When I install HyperV platform and management tools the computer configures and reboots
AFter reboot it brings up the blue window image and spinning circle of dots for a while then reboots. It does the same thing again and then reboots and goings into repair mode and asks me to do a system restore. It then restores to before they HyperV install.
I've tried turning off xHCI mode (i.e USB 3.0) in the bios as this seemed to be a known issue with some gigabyte boards. This did not rectify the issue
Updated to latest asus mainboard bios 1405.  Same issue still occurs upon install of hyper V.
Automatic repair does not work and I have to restore from system restore point.
I performed a clean boot after installing the feature and it still couldnt boot to windows.. it just sits at windows logo and then restarts a few times and then launches the startup repair. Once the startup repair begins, the only way I can get into windows
is restoring to a system restore point from before the hyperv feature install.

  • 32-bit drivers not seen in 64-bit CF Administrator config?

    We're migrating from 32 bit CF8 to
64 bit CF9. One of our legacy ODBC datasources, an HP Mini, is accessed via a Minisoft driver which only comes in 32 bit.
The driver is configured in Windows control panel fine, via the Windows wow64.exe add-in. When we try to configure it in the CF Administrator as a datasource, it's not visible.
Is there some workaround, some way to make it show up?
    Thanks,
    VB

    Hi there
I am not sure if you have resolved your issue or not, but I have had the exact same problem coming from 32bit to 64bit coldfusion.  My problem was I needed to connect to excel and access.  Microsoft unfortunately does not have any 64bit drivers for these products.  Much to the dismay of quite a few people I discovered.
You will need 64bit datasource drivers.  If you can't get drivers then you will have to switch to the 32bit version of coldfusion.
Another option is to think of perhaps a work around.  For instance I heard of people connecting to access databases through sql server.  So using the 64bit sql server driver, to connect to a 32bit sql server instance, connecting to access using the 32bit driver.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

  • Latest Vista 64 bit drivers not install

It don't matter what I do, I cannot get the "SBXF_PCDVTBETA_L3_2_0_0000" drivers working with my X-fi Fatality sound card.
    Things I have done:
Turned off the signiture thingy as per the read-me (both at start-up and premient way)
    Turned off windows firewall
    Turned off Windows Defender
    No Antivirus/Firewall/Spyware/Adware protection
Run the file as a normal user and right clicked and selected "run as administrator".
Made sure no previous sound drivers were installed.
As soon as it gets to the "Updating the windows files", I get another box come up:
Creative Device Driver Installation has stopped working.
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is avalible.
The only button I have is, close program, I click that and it goes to the audio console. At that stage I cancel the installation because ther sound apps dont work without the sound driver.
So I am left with a very muted PC.
    My PC Specs:
    Windows Vista Beta 2 5384
    AMD Athlon 4000 2.4 Ghz
    Asus Geforce 7800GT
    2GB of RAM
    Proacti've Asus A8n-Sli Deluxe Motherboard

Hopefully somebody can help me out with my issue

Boot Camp will not support Vista on newer iMacs, you will need to upgrade to Windows 7. Also as an FYI there is a Boot Camp forum, you can locate it by clicking Apple Support Communities and then in the search field type Boot Camp.
    Best of luck,

I've also got a similar problem. I upgraded yesterday & today I find (mainly with previously purchased tracks) that iTunes only playes about 51sec of a track. The whole track plays when using "Quicktime" but this doesn't help me when I'm trying to put together a playlist.
    Can anyone out the help?

I recently upgraded my laptop to Windows 7 and downloaded the 64-bit installer (iTunes64Setup). Although I recieve the notice that it was installed, when I start it up, I receive the "iTunes Library.itl cannot be read..." error message whenever I try to start it.
I have uninstalled the program, deleted the original setup file (iTunes64Setup), downloaded it again and re-installed it twice with no success.
Is there something I am doing wrong? Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

  • Windows 7 bootcamp drivers not installing properly

    Hi All,
I just installed 32 bit Windows 7 Professional on my early 2011 Macbook Pro 2.2ghz i7 and the OS is working fine, but the ethernet controller, bluetooth, facetime camera, network controller, PCI simple communications controller, and SM bus controller all have yellow exclamation points next to them in device manager and are located in a subfolder called "other devices"
I have already installed and reinstalled the boot camp driver pack off of the OSX 10.6 DVD to no avail, as well as trying to install the Marvell Ethernet Controller driver manually, but nothing works.
Any help on this would be much appreciated, I am going crazy trying to figure this out.

Apple has a 3.2 version Driver Update especially for the 2011 MBPs here http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/ (right side)
    Hope it helps

  • Windows 7 Enterprise is not genuine after installing new hard-drive and cloning the old one

I retired from my job as a university professor two years ago, and they let me keep my laptop computer, which is a Dell Latitude E4300 with Windows 7 Enterprise installed. I do not have any of the original disks for Windows. Recently, the hard-drive began
to fail, so I replaced it with a new one, cloning the old hard-drive onto the new one. Soon after that, a popup window began appearing saying that this computer is not running genuine windows. One important consequence of this is that I can no longer use Windows
Update, so I have concerns about security. If I go to the control panel under “System”, it says windows is activated and gives me the Product ID. I have talked to tech support at Microsoft, and they tell me something along the lines of the following: that
the problem is the new hard-drive is not recognized as being licensed to use this copy of Windows, and that I should post a question on one of the forums asking this: How can I reinstall Windows 7 Enterprise on the new hard-drive? Any assistance will be much
    appreciated.
PS I have no idea which forum this should go under, so pretty much just picked one randomly.

  • Windows 8.1 is not starting after installing Bluetooth driver

I cannot start Windows 8.1 Pro (64Bit) after enabling Virtualization ( because I need HYPER-V ) from BIOS settings.
It was perfect before installing RaLink Bluetooth Driver update.
I use "HP ENVY 15 Touchsmart j001tx" laptop.

HYPER-V and Bluetooth individually works fine. But laptop is not starting up when both are installed. Please help me.

    Hi:
If your model uses a Ralink wireless card, see if installing this bluetooth driver works.

  • Using windows vista I can not get the install to complete and work properly with a usb connection.

I am running Vista (32 bit) and I was trying to update to new HP software.  Tried using full software install from file on HP website (release 14.0 full version).  When I try to install, it will not recognize the usb connection of the software.  I tried going back to version that came with the printer and had a similar problem.  Now I am stuck not being able to get either version 12 (which came with the system) or version 14 (new update on website).
I need help trying to figure out how to get the software to go through and connect properly using usb and having the scan function working.......
    Any ideas.

    Hi,
Have you tried plugging the USB into a differnt port at the back of your PC?
IS the USB directly connected to your PC and not through any USB hub or extention?
Do you see any response while plugging the USB to your computer?
    If yes, please clarify.
I would also suggest trying a different USB cord, not longer than 2-3 meters long and check for any difference.

  • Windows XP Pro CD not recognized while installing windows

I hope some one can help me..
I have bought a legal Windows XP pro SP3 cd at my university. I made sure that my firmware is uptodate. I have partitioned the harddisk
I connect my "external" superdrive bootcamp assistent recognizes the disk and starts to reboot. WIndows installer (blue screen) pops up, starts collecting data... and then says "please insert Windows Cd and press enter".
Well obviously the Cd is allready inserted, so I press enter same response. If I disconnect the superdrive and reconnect it same answer. Unfortunatly I dont hear the superdrive spin into use...
So how can I fix this.

    anyone?
