S405 Wireless Networks Problem Windows 8 with SSID's

S405 keeps refreshing and shuffling wireless networks. Most of the time it won't show our SSID. We have other thinkpad devices, other wireless tablets/consoles, non of them have this problem.
I was also able to replicate the same issue with another router (in fact we replaced our router recently, and same issue was present before) and it is still happenning.
Another interesting thing is, whatever our SSID is, S405 specifically hides that SSID, this is the most frustrating part. Why would it not display on the list of available networks? I changed the SSID, and it is still not finding it. I made the SSID visible thinking that was the problem, still no luck.
Is there some sort of bug in S405 that makes it not play well with Windows 8 wireless networks?
Are there any applications that I can use to make the extremely restricted Windows 8 networks screen a little more Diagnose-Friendly?
PS: The SSID will show up once in a while allowing us to connect, or sometimes it won't show but will connect magically, this happens after we turn wireless on/off, reboot laptop, or try other various ways to get it to connect.
Thanks in advance!

You cannot right-click an INF file to install a device driver. When the device is attached, the system will ask for the INF file and driver. You can also use the DevCon tool in the WDK

This is outdated information.  In Windows 8.1 and later, we right-click to install drivers against both ACPI and PCI devices and it installs just fine.  It does not work in Windows 7.

  • Group Policy to disable ability to turn off wireless networking in Windows 8.1 Update

I am wanting to disable the ability to turn off wireless networking in our Windows 8.1 Update clients using Group Policy. We are a school that runs classroom management software enabling the teachers to view what the students have on their screens.
Students just switch off their wireless to avoid detection. I have searched the Group Policy listings and can't find anything.
    Thanks.

    Hi  GeoffAUS,
I can’t find a direct group policy to disable the users’ ability to turn off the wireless network in Windows 8.1.
If we just disable the display of wireless connection, we will need to additionally disable the ability that disabling the driver in device manager.
We could try the workaround to use UAC to control the wireless connection.
Go to Computer Configuration->Windows Settings->Security Settings->Local Policy->Security Options, and set the option
User Account Control: Behavior of the elevation prompt for standard users.
Please make sure the computer automatically connect to Wireless.

  • My apple extreme wireless network is working fine with the macs but ios devices (iPhone & iPad) will not connect. I can see the network though. Everything was working until the ISP went down. Any suggestions?

My apple extreme wireless network is working fine with two Macs but ios devices (iPhone & iPad) will not connect. I can see the network and it's telling me I'm connected but Safari says I'm not connected to the internet. Everything was working until the ISP went down. Any suggestions?

Thank you, I've tried the support tips (resetting the network, checking security settings, etc.) and rebooting the network devices several times to no avail. I've actually been working on this for several days (when I can afford to have the network down).
What I have to determine is what has changed in the setup...from when it WAS working just fine with all devices.

Can time capsule boost the wireless network without beeing connected with cabel, hence wirelessly?

Yes, providing that the wireless network has been created by another Apple "n" router.
The "extend a wireless network" feature on the Time Capsule is not compatible with devices from other manufacturers.

  • 802.1X wireless network problems with Intel Mac

To login to the wireless network at my school I have to use an 802.1X connection authenticating with TTLS, TLS, EAP-FAST and PEAP protocols.
This works intermitently. Some days my MacBook logs on quickly with no problems at all but most days it has a self assigned IP address and I can't use the internet. My friend also uses a MacBook, which acts in the same way. Some days she manages to get on, some days I can get on and some days we are both on together. The problem is really irritating!! We get no support from the techs as we are the only Mac people in the school. The rest of the staff have PCs. The techs are just trying to use this issue to justify why letting people lease Macs is a problem and stop other staff from leasing them in the future.
I did find a solution at
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=425113&tstart=0
but this was written in 2006 and I wonderered if this was still valid.
    Can anyone help? please???

I am a tech at our school and we have the same problems. still trying to find a permanent solution!
If you turn airport off, then turn on again, (from system prefs > network) does it change from "self-assigned IP Address" to "Authenticated via PEAP)?
the macs are more and more popular at our school, so its becoming more and more of an issue.
    cheers,

  • Wireless Networks Problems with Xbox - Airport express

    Hi Hope someone can help
    Wireless setup & Hardware
I have a PC running XP and the wireless Router is connected directly with RJ45 cable into the Netgear DG834GT
I have a iMac G5 which has no problems getting onto the wireless network
I have a Airport Express unit where all my music is streamed into another room and that works fine, but my problem is I cannot get the xbox I have just purchased to work ie (xbox Live etc) which is attached with RJ45 cable direct to Airport Express.
I have installed lastest firmware for all devices, ie Airport Express, DG834GT
My Wireless Security settings have been set to WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi protected access pre shared key) I must admit I tried to set WEP security at first but had no Luck, so I don't know if I've done right thing
When I look at attached devices on router software it shows me correctly that there are 3 computers on network I can view IP address and MAC address
My Question is should the Xbox work ok with my setup?
Should the Xbox not get all network infomation automatic
Do I need to manual set the xbox with Network settings?
Or am I missing something, any help would be Great

    Hello,
I don't know if this link will help but, give it a shot. I have the same setup as you but, I have a PS2 instead. I believe you have to manually adjust some settings on the XBox.

  • Thinkpad X200 Vista Business 32-bit Wireless network problems

    Hey guys!
I seem to have a persistent problem with my two Lenovo Thinkpad X200, which I simply can't manage to figure it.
I have recently restored the computers to factory settings, which meant downgrading from Windows 8 to Windows Vista Business 32-Bit.
Now, everything with the installation went as planned until I had to test if everything was working. A lot of the drivers seem to be missing and since I do not still have the original manufacturer's disc, I do not know what to do.
I downloaded the ethernet driver from Lenovo's website and that is now fully functional.
I have also tried everything in regards to making the wireless internet work, but without any luck. When I try connecting to the wireless internet, Windows simply can't detect any networks and when I try using Windows function to find a solution to the problem it simply says "This computer does not have a wireless network adapter installed and configured".
I have tried downloading all the wireless lan driver for Windows Vista 32-bit from Lenovo's website, but I still cannot get the wireless network to work.
Any help would be highly appreciated
    Thank you in advance

  • OS X can't connect to wireless network. Windows can?

A friend of mine has 64-bit WEP on his home router. I know WEP is bad, but it can't do WPA and he can't afford to buy another router. Anyway, I can't connect to it on OS X. After I type in the password, I get the error that it can't connect and I have the options OK or Try Again. Try Again never connects. I thought it was a weird hardware issue, with my wireless network card not being compatible with the router. But if I reboot into Windows, I connect just fine.
For the record, it's a 2WIRE DSL Modem + Wireless Router (HomePortal 1000HW to be exact).
I thought it was my OS X, because I've had weird errors ever since moving it back and forth to an external drive for Boot Camp, but he said another friend of his with a MacBook couldn't connect either.
Does OS X have a problem with 64-bit WEP networks, or is it a problem with 2WIRE 1000HWs? What do you think?

  • Dreamweaver and wireless network problem

This isn't about Airport, but I couldn't find the proper place to post this, so I put it here. Please advise if I'm wrong.
I'm running Tiger (10.4.2) on a dual G5. My husband is running Windows XP on a 2GHz Dell, and also a Dell laptop. We just moved and HE is wireless now, not me. I am hardwired to a Netgear router (doesn't seem to have a name but the number on the bottom is CD814WG). We are using RoadRunner as our ISP, as we have done for seven or eight years, since its introduction into our city. TimeWarner did our installation, and everything is fine with my machine (although my husband's problems are another issue altogether!).
I should also say that we are in no way networked, and that is not our goal or plan. We have the Netgear router, and as I mentioned, I'm wired directly to it. We both use broadband individually, and have no need to share a connection.
I'm not having any problems at all with my broadband connection -- internet and Mail are fine -- but since the installation of the Netgear router I can't use Dreamweaver to upload HTML pages I create. I can use Fetch just fine, which doesn't surprise me since I've always powered right through my firewall with Fetch, while I always had to turn it off, with Dreamweaver. And of course I should say that my firewall is down when I have the uploading problem. The built-in OS X firewall is currently the only one I have installed, BTW.
When I try to upload, DW gives me a dialog box saying "Dreamweaver cannot determine the remote server time. The Select Newer and Sychronize commands will not be available." And of course I can't upload anything.
Any ideas? I have the information the TimeWarner guy left here so I can go onto the Netgear admin page, but I don't know what to change/add so that I'm able to upload with DW. It's my understanding that port 80 is for internet connections, but as I mentioned, it's not blocked -- I can go online just fine. It's just that I can no longer upload HTML pages with Dreamweaver.
    Thanks in advance...

I'm getting the same error message as you (Dreamweaver cannot determine the remote server time...).
I found that I could no longer upload with Dreamweaver (or see all the remote files) but I could with Transmit. However (and here the similarity ends) when I turned off the OSX firewall everything was fine.
This didn't make me feel very easy, however, as I preferred having the firewall up. I found that it would work with the firewall up if I checked the "use passive FTP" box in Remote Info in the Site Definition menu.
The Netgear router also has an NAT Firewall but I am using a Netgear router too, both hardwired on my iMac (via Airport Extreme - don't ask!) and wirelessly on my laptop. I haven't configured the firewall on that at all (I wouldn't dare!) and I'm getting through OK now. Try the passive FTP thing; it might work!

  • Apple wireless network and windows adapter

I have an apple extreme wireless network established in our complex and most of the users of the network are window users. They want to connect to this network with a good strong signal. What is the best wireless adapter they should consider to purchase to connect to this wireless network other than Airport Express? What would be best for desktops as well as laptops?

The Apple base stations create a standard 802.11b/g or 802.11n wireless network (depending on how you configure them).
Therefore any wireless adapter compatible with those standards and Windows should work. Of course with Windows you always encounter strange unpredictable compatibility problems.
I suggest that you visit discussion areas dedicated to Windows or the flavor of hardware you are using. You will probably find many recommendations.

  • No wireless network on Windows 7 boot camp!

    Hey fellow Mac users!
I'm having a problem that has been bothering me for the last two days... Once I partitioned my hard drive, and installed Windows 7 on one part, there's no wireless internet connection. I did insert my Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD once I was in Windows 7 and installed the boot camp thing, which installed all of the drivers. Yet, if I unplug the ethernet cabel (which Windows 7 Troubleshooter told me too) there's no internet connection, and I can't connect to a wireless network, while on Windows 7 (it works great in Mac OS X).
BUT.. I have a clue what the problem might be (or at least whats causing it). If I go into Computer->Properties->Device Manager in Windows, I see that I have a yellow warning sign on the Network Controller, under Other devices.
But if I click the Update driver button, it says that Windows couldn't find any new driver software for this device?? Please help me .

    Mr Tech,
I did insert my Mac OS X Snow Leopard DVD once I was in Windows 7 and installed the boot camp thing, which installed all of the drivers

  • Unable to connect to new wireless network in Mountain Lion with Photosmart C4780

I have a Photosmart C4780 and have just upgraded my imac to Mountain Lion. HP are not providing new drivers for my printer as they say it will work with Mountain Lion. I have downloaded software updates. However, I have just changed my wireless network as I have a new broadband provider but am unable to connect to it. My problem is that the set up assistant software provided which I used originally to set up does not work with Mountain Lion.
    Any ideas please?

I have solved my problem, I've bought an Epson. It works perfectly. If HP can treat their customers with such disinterest and contempt I don't want to give them my money.

  • WRT54G2 V1.0 Wireless network problem

    Hi,
I am having a strange problem with the wireless network on my WRT54G2 V1.0
Each night I completely switch off the power to the router, because there is no need for it to be turned on when I dont use it.
When I turn the power back on the next day, the router starts up normally, and after a couple of minutes I am able to connect to its wireless network from my laptop and phone.
But after some time, I loose the connection to the wireless network. If I search for available wireless networks on my laptop, I can still se my router, but when I try connect to it, I get an error saying that it can not connect.
If I then turn off the power again and turn it back on, the wireless network works again. And this time it works without any problems and disconnections.
Said in short: Each day I loose the connection to the wireless network, and I solve it by turning the power off/on.
So why do I loose the connection the first time the router is turned on each and every day?

Well, I experienced the following yesterday:
When I got home, I turned on my router. Made sure that my iPhone had its Wi-Fi turned off. Played on my console for a few hours, which is connected to the router by wire.
Later on when I turned on my laptop, it was not able to connect to the wireless network. As usual my wireless network was visible, but I was not able to connect to it.
So it seems like I loose the connection to the wireless network after some time, even if I dont use it after I turn on my router. And the issue does not seem to have anything to do with several wireless devices which are connected to the router.
Do I really have to give up, and either have the router turned on all the time, or get use to make a reset of the router every day?

  • Mega 865 wireless network problem.

    Hi all,
New here and seeking a solution to a specific prob.
Have built a system from with a MSI Mega 865 Delux. P4 Chip, ATI all in wonder graphics/TV card, Maxstor 160 GB hDD.
System is specifically as a home entertainment/ video capture and record.
    Problem with wireless networking.
I have a wireless network with three PCs all with USR wireless cards and a usr 8054 router which actually does little but extend the rance of the network, Internet connection is through host computer on a single channel ISDN line.
When I connect to the network with my Mega 865 (XP TO XP) the connection is massivly slow, in fact pages on the net refuse to load it is that slow.
The 865 is causing the host compiter to drop its connection to the router for about 50 % of the time, I can see its icon flashing red as the connection is dropped and returning to green as it reconnects.
It sounds like an incompatibility issue some where but I can't find anyone else with the same problems.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Thanks, Epirb.

To my knowledge, the SP2 caused trouble for Mega 865 if a certain type of P4 CPU was installed (Prescott?)
That was so because this sort of CPU requires some "alternative" microcode to be loaded into it upon startup.
One published workaround was to replace certain file in the SP2 package with its predecessor from SP1,
another (more solid, IMHO) - to upgrade the BIOS of PC so this revised microcode is loaded with BIOS. At this point in time, I believe, the revised Mega 865 BIOS is available as an official release.
You are right, the issue is only with certain processors; see also (this includes the m-soft workaround too)

This revised bios is not available IMHO, one of our forum collegues managed to get a beta version of a new bios, which does the trick. If you need it give us a shout.
