S440 Touch - Think its dead

Hello everyone.
Ran into a bit of a problem today and unfortunately i cant get in touch with the local tech support till Monday. So im just wondering if anyone else has had the same problem as me.
S440 was delivered mid April and all seemed to be going well apart from the small blemishs on the case of the computer on arrival.
So the issue is last night i used the always on USB to charge my phone and was using the laptop to copy over music and surf the net.
Today woke up and the laptop was dead. Had to run out to work so just thought that the battery was flat. On getting to work plugged in the computer and nothing happened. Thought it might be a dodgy plug as wasnt in my office so when i got home tried the normal plug that i would used and still nothing. I spoke with the lenovo support in the US and they had me press the little button on the base of the computer for about 20 seconds for a static discharge.
The only hope i have is that the status light flashes 3/4 times when i plug in to power cable ( i think ) on the ohter hand i think that the computer is dead and needs to be replaced.
if the laptop is dead I am starting to wonder what silly mistake i have made by moving to this brand and when the computer is replaced will i need to do this again in another 4 months. As i use the computer for work this is not something that i can deal with on a regular basis.
Has anyone else had the same issue and what was the outcome?

Hi again,
I managed to get the computer to work again after pressing the reset button, taking the battery, memory and SSD out, disconnecting and reconnecting the BIOS battery, then plugging only the battery back (which gave me a long string of beeps together with several status LED blinks), and then reconnecting first the memory (so I could get into Lenovo Diagnostics), and then the SSD. The status LED now blinks three times every time I connect the power source, but I guess is a small price to pay...
Finally, I disabled the Always-on USB option from the BIOS, since I think this caused the issue in the first place. I'm posting this in case someone else runs into the same problems.

    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have to iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it.

  • I think its dead for sure. :(

i think my logic board is fried. and the hard drive i think is dead too. the hard drive is making the dreaded clicking no whirrr sound. and when i turn on the ibook the cd drive makes the normal sound sometimes no hard drive sound and it just sits there and where the cpu sits under the modem it gets mondo hot. so being the tinkerer i am i opened it all the way down to the logic board plugged in the battery and keyboard, turned it on and immeditley i touched the cpu and i burned myself. must be a short. i just got a parts ibook(see link) and i plugged in my HD CD drive and keyboard and no hotness. but the mac logo folder ? showed up. the bid states the controllers for the cd and HD drives dont work. but the cd drive made the normal start up sound in it. should i swap my parts over to the other ibook and try and start up from a os9 disk and work with it? i say os9 because the onboard ram is 32mb and i got a 64mb chip. i will post a video on what happens when i try to start up. if photobucket ever loads!

oh and just replaced the trackpad cable!!!!!! im sooo mad!

    Howdy Christopher
OK, I'll give this a whirl...
Yes, I agree that the original logic board is dead - if you really burned yourself on the CPU. Those puppies get a little warm. However, I'm betting your HD is shot as well. If you swapped components over to the new machine, and you get the "?" folder on the screen, that means that the computer cannot find a startup disk. Try inserting an OS CD-ROM into the drive - the machine should be able to boot from that. Or try holding down the "option" key right after you power on - it should give you a visual menu of boot devices to choose from. Of course, if your HD is shot, it won't show up, but at least that way you'll confirm that the computer itself is actually working the way it's supposed to.
If you have a spare HD, I'd drop it in and boot from an OS CD and do a clean install.

  • I Think Its Dead

And I was finally replacing the Kidz Bop crap with real tunes in my son's ZenV. Its only .5 yrs old, but the screen is black and it responds to nothing. Yet the little blue play/pause is lit up.
It was working fine. I was charging it after adding some tunes and left it unattended for a while. When I came back it was dead.
I tried to restart, reset....nothing happens.
    Any ideas
    Thanks
    Deb

ok, i'm running Memtest... how will i know if the stick is bad?
Memtest86+ will run forever if you don't stop it.  There are 10 different kinds of test algorithms that stress your memory in different ways.  Make sure each test runs at least once.  There is an error counter that will show you how many errors occured.  If it shows 0 errors after each test has run once or twice, you most probably do not have a memory problem.

  • I 'think' my Ipod Touch is in recovery mode and people say to hold the power and home button for 10 sec and i did, but its still not turning back on. Plus its dead and wont charge

    - If in recovery mode the screen will have an iTunes logo with an USB plug.
    - Have you tried connecting it to your computer for a n hw and then see if it appears in iTunes. If it does restore the iPod.
    - If screen is blank, try placing he iPod in recovery mode and then restoring. For recovery mode:

  • Help my ipod touch 4th gen. wont turn on it wont even show the symbol to say its dead Help im really scared and if its broke i cannot afford another one!

it wont even show the symbol that its dead please help me

Connect it to a wall charger for at least 30 minutes. After that time, while it is still connected to the charger, Reset it by holding down the sleep and home buttons until you see the Apple logo, then let go of the buttons. Might take a few tries.

I do not know what you mean by charger. Cable?
    Not Charge

    - Try another cable. Some 5G iPods were shipped with Lightning cable that were either initially defective or failed after short use.
    - Try another charging source
    - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
