Hello, Recently bought this laptop . Love it but have some issues with the screen. I do a lot of photo editing so I calibrate it . The Spyder 4 asks serveral questions about the screen but I can't find all the answers . First does this screen have a normal or wide gamut ?? And is it an white LED screen , fluorecent (CFFL) or a RGB LED?? I called the support line but the guy couldn't answer those 2 . Bit weird but well:-) Another thing is that out of the box the screen has a kind of yellow warm tint to it . But once I calibrate it it becomes way darker .So dark that whatever is a bit dark blue grey or black is very hard to see. The screen has 300 nits of brightness. Anyways I now turn off the calibration when I don't edit any photos . But still wonder what other people experience with this screen. I'm a little confused to if the Spyder 4 is not calibrating the screen well of if the screen of the laptop out of the box is very off. Hope you guys can help . Regards . Grigor

Spyder 4 Express Settings

I am new to Mac Mountain Lion and have purchased a Spyder 4 Express to calibrate my screen. Can anyone please tell me what the Gamut setting should be and is Mountain Lion backlit? Also where can I find the Factory settings?

What Gamut should I set? I have Unknown, Normal and Wide.
That's a pretty odd choice to have. Gamut is the maximum fully saturated color of whatever profile you're talking about. It isn't necessary for the user to know what that is beforehand (mainly, because it isn't possible for you to know). It's the software's job to measure that for you. So I'd select Unknown.
What Backlight should I set? I have Unknown, Fluorescent (CCFL), White LRD, RGB LED.
Check the specs on your monitor. Either in its manual, or online at the vendor's site. It helps the software to know what type of source the lighting is as each produces a different type of light. You'll get a much more accurate gray balance if the software knows what type of light source it is measuring.
Also, how do reset to Factory Settings?
All monitors, whether they're separate external devices, or built-in (such as a laptop or iMac) have a factory default profile in its firmware. OS X (and Windows) locates this profile and puts it in the /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays/ folder. When you're in the System Preferences and choose the Displays icon, then Color tab, it's the one at the top listed above the line.

...of course. What I meant to point out was just the small disadvantage of using a laptop screen vs. a good desktop system.
But the calibration itself went very well, and I was impressed by the color consistency between the two systems after calibration.
One thing to note, however, for those who consider getting a Spyder: The Spyder2express won't handle a dual monitor setup, or a second monitor attached to the laptop. For that you'll need the PRO.

I've sifted through this forum & goggled Color Calibration Spyder Recommendations as I need a cheap no brain required to operate spyder for setting up my Dell 2407.
I'm looking for a general purpose device -- not one that will cost hundreds, require a masters to operate or give me press run results.
Does anyone on this forum have a recommendation for me?

A while ago I bought PrintFIX Pro from ColorVision, which includes hardware and software for both monitor calibration and paper profiles for inkjet printing. I haven't made to many paper profiles, but I've had good results with monitor calibration. Not sure if they've come out with a newer version.

Touch screen calibration utility

I've working on a "proof of concept" project that requires the installation of Windows 7 Pro on a Panasonic CF-30CWQAZBM. The O/S installs fine and everything seems to work so far EXCEPT that there is no touch screen calibration utility -
and I need that utility.
The touch screen works - I just can't calibrate it. Does anyone know where I can find an appropriate touchscreen calibration utility? It's a Fujitsu touch screen and I've checked at the Fujitsu site, but they don't seem to have a calibration utility available
for download. Panasonic doesn't support Win7 on the "MK1" version of the CF-30, so there's no help there.

The drivers and utility software would be from the manufacturer of the touchscreen and written specifically for that touchscreen.
If Panasonic has a Vista package for your laptop you can try that, but there is nothing generic in Windows that would solve your problem.

Screen Calibration for a PC

Is there a tool similar to the screen calibration program included in OSX for a PC.
This works well enough for my needs and I want to avoid buying a high end solution for my PC.

basically..i am try to connect to my mac from a pc..i have punched all the firewall holes in my Airport N router and it should be good there..
when you connect from a PC, it asks for the password, you enter it and the screen flickers and vnc connection drops

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased.
If no fix, Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

LR2.7 colour difference with screen calibration

The thread title mirrors my perplexity:
I have calibrated my new Asus 246Q screen with a I1 unit. The profile is 'correct'
Viewed with the Windows image viewer & comparing with the Kodak printer check files, I obtain a good correspondence with the screen OS in 'scenery mode' ( oddly, better than in RGB, although this screen reflects 95% RGB)
However, when I view the check file in LR2.7 ( or PSE7 ), I obtain a jaundiced image ( Lady's face!) and pronounced desaturation of all colours.
The printed image - canon printer newly calibrated professionally ( I am a rank amateur ) - corresponds to the LR2.7 file.
Thus, I am at loss as to how to deal with the problem : both screen & printer seem correctly calibrated but LR2 is off on colour.

When using a wide gamut monitor with non-color managed applications the colors may appear muted with hue shifted. See this post for an explanation:

You are experiencing the exact opposite, which indicates your monitor calibration is improper and may have been performed with the display set in the wrong mode. The Asus PA256Q monitor comes with a factory calibrated 'Adobe RGB Mode:'

When you do your own calibration with the i1 Display 2 monitor calibrator what display mode setting are you using? Does the Asus user manual provide detailed instructions on performing your own monitor calibrations as to what settings to use? Have you tried the display's 'Adobe RGB Mode,' and what does your user manual say concerning the ICC profile to be used with this "factory calibrated mode? You either have a user setup problem, or a defective monitor!
Try testing Lightroom with the factory adjusted Adobe RGB mode setup, making sure you follow all instructions concerning display settings and recommended monitor profile. If Lightroom still doesn’t look right with the factory calibrated Adobe RGB mode setup, then the display is probably defective. If Lightroom images now look good, then your setup procedure for creating custom monitor profiles with the i1 Display 2 calibrator has a flaw. Read the user manual, or try contacting Asus technical support:

Possibility #2: The standard i1 Display 2 monitor calibrator color filters are optimized for sRGB gamut displays. Only the "custom" i1 calibrators sold with NEC (MDVSENSOR2) and EIZO bundles have wide gamut optimized filters. I'm not sure if this could be a part of your calibration problem, since I would assume the onscreen calibration differences to be fairly subtle.
Once you have a proper "wide gamut" viewing setup with Lightroom you will need to switch the display’s view mode setting to 'sRGB:' when using non-color managed applications such as web browsers and Microsoft Office applications, etc. The other alternative is to use two monitors – Wide gamut for color managed applications, and standard (sRGB) display for everything else.
I suggest NOT using the preset modes Scenery, Theatre, or Standard, except perhaps for viewing movies – As already stated these are uncalibrated modes:

Black splash screen when launching Logic Express 7.2.1

hello, i recently installed final cut express hd (universal) and a recent pro app update. ever since then, i get a black splash screen when launching Logic Express 7.2.1. i've tried reinstalling logic, but nothing changes. how do i uninstall the pro app update, will this fix the problem? should i uninstall final cut?

This has been a request from Apple users for many years. it's great you can now combine all emails into one, but some people want them kept separate and have separate icons on the main page. They could easily do this by having one "MAIL" account as white and another red. Or put MAIL 1 and MAIL 2. Or an actual label that the mail accounts are called on the ICONS!!

Not that it matters a lot, Android vs iPhone interface is largely a matter of personal preference and what you know... I'm not sure which one you're saying is not efficient...
In any event...
I currently have two email accounts setup. My iPhone main page Mailbox settings reads:

Inboxes
All Inboxes
Gmail

I wish there an efficient way to move back and forth while in the "Inbox" between accounts. Also, Why does one gmail account show as "Gmail" and another as the actually address?
The names are based on the names you gave the accounts when you set them up.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Tap the account you want to re-name. Go to the "Description" field and put in what ever you want.
Second, there is no way to quickly choose a bunch of emails to delete. I have to manually go into each one and move it to the Trash folder.
If you tap the edit button in the upper right while in mail, you can select multiple items to move, delete or mark (flag).
I don't want any of the condescending remarks, that I've read here and in other forums. I'm honestly looking for a solution, which I think you are too! One thing I realized is that iPhone users in these forums are really defensive and quick to say "that's how it is, live with it, if you don't like it go away" Um...the only thing that tells me is you are pretty bitter and have kept telling yourself that, to force yourself to like your device. I prefer to express my issues, and find solutions. There is ALWAYS a solution...
I think what you will find is that many people here, myself included, tend to get a bit short with people who start off with attacks or whining about how something has been asked for for years and should be easy, rant about things that have already been beaten to death multiple times in the forums, talk about how much better Android or BB are at something (really... if it's that much better, why did they buy an iPhone to begin with?), etc., or continue to ask questions that could easily be answered with a simple search, or even just by looking back at the last dozen posts to the forum, half of which probably asked the EXACT SAME question.
I don't think any of us go out of our way to be rude or uncivil. That said, attacking the people who are attempting to help you is much more likely to generate a response of 'if you don't like it, go away', than it is to generate something that will be truly helpful.

Hello,
As far as I know, you don't have to specifically maintain the send express settings anywhere else. As you must be aware in the 'Sendmail' step that you use in the workflow template, there would be a checkbox above the Subject o fthe mail whether to send the mail as Express or not.
If the checkbox is checked, the value 'X' is passed automatically to the variable "EXPRESS" variable of the task container. So you dont have to pass the value manually, it wd be taken care by the checkbox itself.

IPad3 screen freezing & apps not working: Settings, Reminders & Calendar

Updated my ipad3 to ios 6 this weekend. Experiencing several issues with the screen freezing in Settings, Reminders & Calendar.
Tried to reboot, backup and restore with iTunes, but no changes. The Calendar and Reminders are still not working.
Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?
A few notes:
Not able to access the "Mail, Contacts, Calendars" in "Settings". Does not go to the screen. Freezes the "Settings" screen. Forced quit the Settings app.
Not able to make changes in the "iCloud" in Settings. The circle spins endlessly with no results.
Calendar is blank (only showing a blank opened book).
Reminders is blank.
I use iCloud to sync my calendars between a laptop, ipod touch, desktop, and ipad.

Very Important, how much Free Space is on your Hard Drive first of all? Click on the Macintosh HD on the Desktop, then do a Get Info on it.
74.4 capacity, 29.76 available, 44.64 used. I have done a Diskwarrior rebuild so hopefully it is at least arranged well. Still running 10.4.0 on it because I didn't update it after doing the 2nd Archive and Install
My backup FW is also an 80 gig and shows:
74.4 capacity, 36.24 available, 38.16 used. Running 10.4.11 on it. I think the main HD might have less available because I have now tried two Archive and Installs? Previous System 1 showed about 5.86 gigs of use and Previous System 2 just showed "calculating".
Boot off your original Install Disk , then run the extended Apple Hardware Test. Some disks require you to use the Option key at bootup to select AHT. Some models have a separate AHT CD.
I had the disk and ran the extended AHT, and it all passed.
Here's something I have noticed, when I boot from either the PB main drive or the FW, and open Activity Monitor, the CPU shows major usage for a long time, often pegging the CPU usage meter. In the Process Window, there is something called "mdimporter" that seems to be eating a lot of processor. After 10-15 minutes (approx), the CPU settles down to just showing light usage. I don't recall ever seeing the CPU usage pegging like that upon a fresh startup, I often keep the little floating CPU window on the desktop and it never used to run like that.

I just had this issue. Go into settings and reset the Apple TV after the firmware update. (note just "reset settings" and NOT back to factory settings)
