S540 HD video playback lags

Hello,
I have a brand new Lenovo s540 laptop.
There is a problem with HD video playback. 1080p and 720p video playback is laggy. Each 2-3 seconds it gets frozen for 0.2 - 0.5 seconds. I have downloaded all latests drivers from Lenovo web site (except bios update, does it make sens to update bios?).
It didn't help.
OS is windows 8.1 64 bit, all updates are installed.
Also, have tested my PC using 3dmark tools, it shows very poor results - 2 times less than their "Ultralight notebook" reference.
Would you suggest, how to fix this?
Thanks

my config is: i7, SSD, 8GB RAM, intel HD Graphics and Radeon HD 8600M

  • ITunes video playback lags badly ever since 10.3.6

I am now running 10.3.7 and iTunes 10.5.3 on a 2011 MacBook Pro (2.2 GHz, i7. 8GB RAM) and video always stutters or lags in iTunes, even without any other applications open and offline. I have tried zapping pram and the usual tactics for things like this, and hoped the update to 10.3.7 would solve it but no luck.  Help?

Just updated iTunes to most recent version. Now I'm getting jerky video playback in BOTH iTunes and QT Pro (latest version). CPU use is very high but random; ditto with video playback (i.e., doesn't hang up on the same scene/time).
I had this issue a little over a year ago after updating iTunes to the then latest version. Got nowhere with Apple's "Service" texts. I played around with configs for a while and also re-installed iTunes. It has worked fine until yesterday (same symptoms as last time). As for the past "fix": nothing I can hang a hat on. Methinks Apple updated the version I re-installed with (tho' the version # was unchanged).

  • Video playback lagging while buffering

Having a problem with video in my iPad app. The video is loaded from a server into an FLVPlayback component. While the video is buffering, the video playback is extremely choppy (like 1-2 FPS), but as soon as the buffering is complete, it plays smoothly. So obviously, the buffering itself uses too many resources (I've tested both on an iPad Mini and an ancient iPad 1).
Is there any way to reduce the resource usage of the buffering process so I can start playing before buffering is complete? YouTube is able to buffer while playing the same devices, so it should be possible. The videos are pretty low quality and around 70mb, and the bufferTime is default, not that that should make a difference.

But that's not the problem. The problem is that I cannot play the video smoothly while buffering is going on. It doesn't matter how much has actually buffered. It's as if the iPad's CPU is too bogged down by the buffering to play video at the same time, but I don't understand why, since YouTube and other apps (not made by me) are obviously able to do it on the same iPads.

  • Help: embedded video playback lag

I'm trying out flash 8 pro, i have a video that I have
embedded in the swf, during playback it gets to the end of the
video and seems to hang or lag for a few seconds, skipping frames
and starting again after skipping frames. Any thoughts on how to

I thought I should add that it hangs at the last frame of the
video, showing the final frame image during the hang.

  • Strange drastic video playback lag. Help!

I will keep this short and to the point.
I can open and play video just fine be it a image sequence to a hand drawn frame animation with hundreds of complex layers animating at once but as soon as sound is included I have a 20+ second wait before normal playback. For example even adding a couple seconds OS sound file on a default Photoshop file it scrubs fast but gives you 20+ seconds of the loading cursor each time you press play before ruining smoothly and happens regardless to if you mute it or not.
Reinstalling and resting preferences doesn't help and I can't find anyone else with this.

  • Journe air 1000 - video playback lags after converting to mjpeg

    Hello,
i have bought 2 journe air 1000 photo frames, and i'm trying to play video on them.
To convert the video files i'm using the provided software that was in CD that came with the frame - ArcSoft video converter 2.5, which converts the video to a MJPEG avi file with quite poor sound quality.
And the main problem is that, video starts to lag after some time, there is no sync between sound and video, and eventually it crashes.
Also some video track just crash straight away..
I have 2 files, one is 30 mins long and the other is 10 min long, both experience the same symptoms, on both frames.
I have tried to use newer arcsoft converter software, different converters, tried splitting the files to smaller segments but to no avail...
It just like there's some buffer in the frames that fill's up and the video starts to lag.. anyone experienced that?
Maybe there's some other codec that this frame supports except mjepg? i have tried some (mpeg4, divx, xvid) but it didnt work, it doesn't even play mjpeg mov's, just avi's...
Any ideas how to fix it?
    thanks.

yes i have tried loads of other formats: with mjpeg movs i get some flickering sound and black screen, and with all the others (h264, mp4 and so on) - "decode failed" and i haven't found anywhere in specs that it supports anything else except mjpeg avi..
maybe some specific setting need to be applied to other formats? has anyone else succeeded in playing other formats? what settings did you use?
    thanks

  • Video playback is choppy and lags

when i play videos off youtube, many times it is choppy and very laggy.  could there be a setting to improve video playback, or is it likely my wifi /internet is too slow?  although no problem on mac book, or imac??

Have you tried when conected to another network? Your performance is typical of a network problem.

  • Horrible video skip / lag problem - once per second in all apps!

I built a new system last month (my first AMD) and I am having a really aggravating problem. In all games and all video playback I get an annoying skip once per second, every second. It affects sound during gameplay but not during movie or mp3 playback. It even happens with the visualization mode in Windows Media Player.
My system is as follows: MSI K8N Neo4-F, A64 3200+ venice core, MSI 6800GT 256MB PCI-E, two sticks of Corsair valueselect DDR400 512MB each, 500 watt PS, 160GB 7200 SATA HDD. Most recent NVIDIA drivers for everything. WinXP Pro with SP2 and all updates, DX9C. Nothing overclocked, all settings standard.
I have tried the following solutions:
    1) BIOS upgrades, started with 1.4, installed 1.5, MSI tech support gave me 1.6b2 and I installed that. No luck with any of them.
    2) Memory, installed per MSI directions, but I've tried all legal combinations, including one stick at a time. No change.
    3) full format and reinstall of WinXP. No luck.
    4) Switching between WinXP IDE drivers and NVidia drivers, with and without RAID drivers, No luck.
    5) Removal of 6800GT PCI-E card and replacing with Ancient 8MB PCI Permedia2 video card. Problem still persists.
    6) Disable onboard sound and LAN. No luck.
    7) Running Fedora core 4 on second partition. Installed Nvidia video drivers, tried some games. THIS WORKS! No hitch, no skip, no nothing. Framerates are noticably slower but very stable. In WinXP I saw framerates bounce all over the place, from 230 FPS down to about 70 with one game. That same game on Linux ran smoothly at about 166 FPS with only occasional slight drops. The big FPS drops in Windows usually came right after one of the skips but didn't occure after every skip.
Right now I'm stumped. Linux uses totally different drivers for sound, LAN and SATA support. Some of those drivers don't fully use the Nforce4 chipset's features, maybe that's part of the difference.

    Thanks TireSmoke:
I had found that sticky, but I took your advice and went thorugh it in detail last night.  Lots of great info, fixes tweaks and tools, sadly none of them fixed my problem.  The lag problem most people are reporting is not really like the wierd problem I am having.  I have tried the recoommended fixes with ablsolutely no change in my system's behavior.
I am beginning to suspect a faulty motherboard component.
    Russ_XP:
I think you are correct about fast writes.  I googled the heck out of that last night and couldn't find any reference to enabling or disabling fast writes on PCI-E.
The drive is SATA-1.  The Neo4-F is not SATA-2 enabled (there is a hack for it though).  From memory I think it's a Western Digital WD1600-something, 7200 RPM dirve.  I've tried it on both SATA buses and tried disabling the unused bus in BIOS.
I'm pretty sure I can dig up an old PATA drive somewhere and give that a try.
    Gpalmer:
True enough, and I don't have these problems under Fedora.  Sadly this is a cross-platform game development box, I need both XP and Fedora working.
    Black_God:
Nope, this is a clean install.  Although I wonder, could any of the built in XP update and security tools be causing this?  I have disabled Windows firewall and virus protection monitoring.

  • SEVERE, MAJOR Problems with ITunes Video Playback on 64-bit Win7

So I got a new rig (ASUS G74SX running 64-bit Win7 Home Prem) after I figured my nearly 5-year old HP Pav dv9500t running 32-bit Vista Home Prem had put in good years of work.  In using ITunes on the Vista system, I never really saw problems with its player on video podcasts.
Completely different story on the Win7 machine.  Aside from all the other problems noted with ITunes itself (not the player) in this forum, there is this:
    1. When something like UAC occurs, the video clip runs in the player, but the video is frozen (like a photographic still) while the audio continues to run on normally.  Workaround:  minimize then restore the player window, then the video part of playback returns.  Of course that gets annoying doing that multiple times after a while.
    2. With one video podcast (for example, The Young Turks podcasts), while the audio again continues normally, the video track lags unbelievably.  The video appears in slow motion.  The viewer risks a headache from vertigo if the viewer continues watching slow motion video unmatched with the normal audio.
At first I considered the possiblity that it was related to a 5400 rpm hard disk drive, which came with the new machine and I would not have normally have not bought myself, but I had someone buying it for me (my HP system only had 7200 rpm drives...what is ASUS thinking in letting Best Buy do a performance markdown?).  Then I played that video podcast with VLC media player, and it absolutely had NO problem keeping up with the video and audio.  (Another thing to like and prefer with this player is that you can keep the window on top.)
Seriously, the programming group at ITunes should be ashamed and maybe every member of its group should consider getting another day job.  With each revision, ITunes seems to get worse.

My installation of version 10.6.x of ITunes does not have QuickTime.
As of version 10.5 of ITunes, QuickTime is no longer apparently bundled with ITunes, which clearly has its own player.  In addition, I have used a minimal install of ITunes.  This eliminates the install of the bug-ridden Bonjour service, which was filling up Windows event logs needlessly and crashing from time to time anyway.
Now although I installed ITunes only a few days ago in this new laptop, I did find ITunes in the Programs & Features page and clicked Repair.  After the "repair," I played the video revealing the flaws of the ITunes player, and the playback problems were still there.  I used the other media player and it played flawlessly.

  • Online video playback is severally laggy/choppy on my macbook pro 2011?

hey guys, got a bit of an issue here. I've been noticing some SEVERE lagging issues whilst viewing online (streaming) video, from various sites, including, novamov, youtube, and others. the videos rarely stop to buffer as i have a fast connection, but yet they still seem to lag wildly. what i mean by this, is the sound will continue as normal, the the picture will freeze sometimes for a good 5 seconds or so before resuming, this is happening increasingly more and more..
i am running Mac OSX Lion (latest Update) on my:
    MacBook Pro
    17-inch, Early 2011
Processor 2.3 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB
    Software Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b)
If it helps my hard drive space is:
    Macintosh HD
    Capacity: 664 GB
    Available: 179.79 GB
The browser i am using is the latest version of Safari, although i have tried firefox and chrome and i experience the same issue.
I have Sophos anti-virus installed and run regular scans on my system (all clear)
i really can't think of anything else which could be causing an issue here. I haven't installed any additional software for a while, not in the time frame since the error started to occur.
I am quite surprised to be experiencing such issues as lagging on something as simple as a youtube video when my £3000+ computer handles heavy applications such as Final cut pro and Photoshop with ease...
i MUST be missing something here,
I really would appreciate any help i can get here.
thankyou very much for your time

    Hey Carolyn,
Worked a treat, de-jaggy video for first time in months!!! Only point of clarification, I manually deleted the Flash plug-in before I uninstalled Flash. Don't know if this was why it worked for me rather than others but hey ...

    Hi Ben...
I am quite surprised to be experiencing such issues as lagging on something as simple as a youtube video
Try troubleshooting the Flash plugin required for most YouTube video.
Quit all open browsers. I'm using Safari as a test.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Storage tab. Click: Delete All
Now uninstall the Flash plugin then reinstall new >  Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS
Make sure and uninstall the current plugin first.
Then launch Safari. From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache
    Now try a video.
BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.
And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to:  Open in 32 bit mode  is selected, deselect, quit then relaunch Safari.

  • ITunes Video Playback Choppy/Laggy?

I am running a 27" 2011 iMac, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM and AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1025 MB graphics card. I am running the newest editon of Mountain Lion.
This is the first time I have had this, however I am not impressed at all. Video playback becomes laggy/choppy, the sound goes all fuzzy and becomes out of sync. It first started with "Blue Planet", I got it about 3 weeks ago now and I simply cannot finish the series as the play back becomes horrible. I have "Ancient Aliens" and that never done anything like that on the same machine. Even the HD version played perfectly.
Now I have just rented "The Hunger Games" in HD and I'm getting the same **** thing. When I pause the video for a little it stops, then it comes back again. Like watching a video with bad internet connection on YouTube, only it doesn't freeze, it just lags out.
I don't really fancy sitting through a 2 hour film pausing it every 15 mins, if I wanted to do that I'd have just not paid for it.
When I looked at my iStat Menu's CPU and RAM is not being used to much so it's not that. It shouldn't be anything to do with my internet connection, that was the whole point of downloading it? Plus my internet is 60MB (so 6MB/s) and I downloaded the 4.5GB file in 30 mins or so. So even if my internet connection had anything to do with it, it should be fine.
Like I said I've not had problems with this before, but this is stupid. Can this be fixed? If not I need to try and get a refund as this is a joke.

    Thanks for your reply.
Ugh. Sorry. It is frustrating and in today's technological marketplace should be one of the easier things for the Mac to handle.
Received another feedback from someone. Have to try when my daughter gets up, but right-clicking on iTunes and doing a Get Info will yield the 'Run in 32bit mode', Checking this box helped another person who was floggedw with this issue
The whole thing is odd. The Choppy playback was an issue oh her machine prior to upgrading to iTunes 11 and me adding another 4GB of RAM. Ran disk utility, did all the normal things to try and solve. She doesn't have an i-device, so WIFI sync was a moot point.
I do not have the issue on my MBPro 15" running the same compliment of software and iTunes. Same movie plays fine. On hers, the issue is there. So this has to be software... settings, conflict, something...
    UPDATE
Just tried the 32bit mode on her machine and same choppy results. Back to square zero.

  • ITunes 11 HD video playback slow/choppy/stutter/skipping in OSX

    Hi guys,
I'm running iTunes 11.0.1 in OS 10.8.2 on my 2.66 GHzm, 8 GB RAM MacBook Pro and playback in HD (1080p) movies/TV shows in iTunes is slow, choppy, stuttering and skipping. Can't seem to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

I was having this same problem, and found one cause.
I have an extensive library on a Drobo FS.  None of the AppleTV's in the house have any problem streaming full 1080p from it, but my new iMac does.  Choppy / laggy video play.  Movies and TV shows right from the iTunes store.  I can have 3 TV's streaming, and even a 4th laptop, all streaming from the iMac iTunes using the Drobo.  They all have zero issues.  No lag, no choppy, nothing.  iMac has the issue even when nothing else is running.  Every time.
BTW, it's happend on my old iMac and the brand new one, both with iTunes 11.
I was told to try setting up a second account on my iMac, and try playing video there.  It worked.  No problems at all.  Weird.
So I started looking at differences between the new account, and my standard.  I'd already made sure nothing unusual was running, and no processor hogs (not that anything short of Handbrake at full settings has come close to pegging out the processers on the new box).  I found one thing, that made a difference.  I had Timemachine backups, going to the same Drobo FS (though a different partition) turned on on the iMac.
Timemachine was running the whole time, and didn't impact any other streaming from the same machine, but it did make iTunes video playback of 1080p movies skip like my 6 year old daughter on the iMac.  I turned it off.... no more skipping.  I've watched 5 TV shows and 2 movies on that account, and not had another single incident.
Obviously, there is still a problem.  The iMac and Drobo have enough bandwidth that they can do all the work at the same time (or I'd be seeing the problem on the other devices while streaming), but they are not playing well together on the same account.  I've also checked the throughput to the Drobo FS from the iMac... way more than necessary.  If it were a read / write thing on the Drobo, then I'd expect other devices to see the issue when I'm watching something on the iMac that is skipping, but there was still no skipping on any other device at that same time...
But, as I said, I found the root cause in my case.  I can turn off Timemachine backups while I'm watching a movie on the iMac, or I can move where I write the Timemachine backups to (going to try this over the weekend to be sure it works).  If moving the Timemachine backup to a different drive doesn't work, it's a bigger problem.
I'd really love to see Apple fix this and the issue where I have to turn iTunes on in 32bit mode when using an external library (of it gives the funky quicktime error until you delete and readd the movie).
Hope this helps some of you, if not all.
