S540 Wake up from Standby after moving the device?
Hy, I have a problem with my S540. It turns into standby after closing, but wakes up if I move the device. Is that normally? Can anybody prove that with ist own device?
Hey Zyzx,
I have seen this type of condition before in a USB connected printer. How do you have the printer connected to the Windows XP Home Edition desktop PC? (USB or Network connected)
If the printer is connected by a USB cable, then you may try a different USB port on the PC and uninstalling/re-installing the USB Controller on the PC.
To perform the uninstall/re-install of the USB controll follow the steps listed below.
Boot into Safe Mode on the PC
Click on the Start menu of the PC
Right Click on My Computer
Select Manage out of the list
Select Device Manager in the list on the left
Right click on the section titled "Universal Serial Bus controllers" and select Properties
Uninstall the section and restart the PC to perform the re-install
I will look into this issue more for you and get back with you.

Computer Won't Wake Up From Standby After Installing 7520 Printer
I installed a new 7520 on my desktop PC (running XP Home). The printer works fine but when the computer goes into sleep mode, I can't wake it up - forcing me to reboot the PC. Sleep mode on the computer worked before the printer install.
If I keep the printer turned off, waking from sleep mode on the computer WILL work properly.
How can i fix this?
This question was solved.

Satellite A300-1NO - Wakes up from standby mode
Hi all!
I have got a Satellite A300-1NO with Win XP pro.
The problem is, that the laptop wakes up from standby mode automatically after about 5 minutes.
I tried to unplug all cables (LAN, usb, etc) but the power plug, but it's the same result.
So what can cause this? What should I try?
thanks. You should disable the Wake up on LAN function in BIOS and Windows.
Check the BIOS for this option!
You can disable this feature in Windows if you right click on the network card > properties > advanced > wake on LAN
I hope it works for you. -
Satellite L850-13R wakes up from standby with no reason
My L850 wakes up from standby every 10-20 minutes and after some time goes to standby again.
All power options are set as they should be (that means no wake on battery and even no wake up on power).
Problem is that this is my business notebook and I moves around with me so I could expect HD errors, not to mention battery life (I found it with dead battery this morning).
I have the latest firmware available (1.60)...
Anybody else facing this problem ?In case anybody has similar problems one of the solutions could be:
IN registry look for
HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashControl \DumpFilters
where you'll find a list of drivers that can possibly prevent standby (dumpfve.sys seems to always be there so don't touch it).
For other drivers remove the programs that installed them (I had MfeEpeHb.sys) or
do something not recommended and remove the lines with drivers you're suspecting prevent successful hibernation).
Eg. modify DumpFilters from
[DumpFilters]
MfeEpeHb.sys
dumpfve.sys
to:
[DumpFilters]
dumpfve.sys
That did the trick for me.
Hibernation tested and works without any problem -
Mac Mini wakes up from standby automatically
Hi,
My Mac Mini wakes up from standby automatically. Waking up via network is disabled and I use an Airport Extreme, a USB mouse (not from Apple) and a wireless Apple keyboard. OS X version is 10.5.8.
I have the Mac Mini since about 10 months now. Almost 1 month after I bought it, I had the this problem but thought I am doing something wrong or my wife has forgotten to turn it off
After a while it was OK. About 3 months later it startet waking up by itself again. I called Apple Care (although the 3 months support was over). They tried to help, but there was no progress. It waked up again and again. After about 1 month it was OK again without me having done anything, no installations, no system updates.
One week ago, the Mac found some updates at Apple and installed them. Since then I have again the problem! I contacted again Apple Care and again they could not help. They just want me to pay for an extension of the Apple Care package, although they could not help me in this case!
Now I want to try it myself getting support by people in this forum. I hope there is someone with experience about this case.
I am not much experienced with OS X, but I will try to answer questions that could help me resolve this problem.
BTW, I searched for a similar topic and found one ("My MacMini always wakes up from standby") but in that case the wake up feature is activated by the user. In my case this feature is deactivated, as mentioned above.
Thanks
Cheers
Quartz84Hi,
sorry for the delay, but I was on a business trip.
@Bsteely: Sometimes it wakes up immediately because of loosing connection to the keaboard when I send it to sleep. I suppose at the beginning of the sleep mode it into sleep mode, the keaboard connection is closed, then the keyboard "thinks" there is a problem and sends a message to the mini and the mini just wakes up again showing that the connection to the keyboard was lost but established again! This even happened as I had unselected the checkbox "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake up this computer" in Preferences -> Bluetooth -> Advanced.
But there are also times when the mini does not wake up so quickly. It just wakes up after hours. I had a look at Console.app as you suggested. Very weird to me indeed Well there I found something like "Wake reason = OHC2" or "Wake reason = OHC1". Unfortunately I cannot find older logs there.
@Boece: Hi and thanks for helping!
Well, I will try the update as soon as I can. By now I have no external harddisk to first save my data before doing the big update. But I am going to buy one soon.
Well turning off the monitor is OK, but the harddisk can wake up anytime while the mini is turned on as the OS might need to do something from time to time. And I don't want my computer to consume electricity even if it is such a small one like the mini. I'm a kind of green dude (but not from Mars ). And the sleep mode is interesting for me as I have very often many different Internet sites and some applications running, so I don't need to close them before turning off and open all of them again when turning on the mini.
Regarding other IR devices: The only IR device now is the keyboard. I even took out the batteries and the mini still woke up over the night!
Thanks again for your support guys. Please let me know if you have any further information of ideas.
Cheers

Mac Mini late 2012 with Mavericks don't wake up from standby mode
My Mac minin used to run with OS X ML 24/7 without any problem. After Update to Mavericks the Mac won't recover from standby mode. I have to power off the mac.
I cleared nvram, pram, installed Mavericks second time.
What can I do? Return to Mountain Lion?I gave Mavericks a second try. It failed. Made clean install ofe mavericks, setup user manually, reinstalled my most needed applications. The mac mini will not wake up from standby mode (blanc screen -> must reboot/hard reset; spinning beachball -> hard reset)
I reset nvram and pram.
Any advice? any chance to get informations by apple?
rgds -
I've had this problem for sometime now, where it simply wont wake up from standby when it have slept for more than ≈3 hours, and I have to do a force shutdown.
Programs opened when going in standby: Google Chrome, iTunes, Skype, Dropbox, Hamachi, Google Notifier and iChat
I believe this happend after I installed World of Warcraft patch 4.3 (havn't installed anything else in the past months)bump

I have always been able to open e-mail photo attachments even after transferring them to the desktop or a thumbdrive, but after moving the last two to the desktop and trying to open them I get the message that ColorSync is unable to open files of this type. I believe they are jpegs.
When I attach a PDF to Apple Mail on Mountain Lion, it is an icon. When I send it to an iCloud mail destination, the attachment arrives and is presented as an icon, whether on OS X, or in IOS 6.
I suspect that the recipient's mail user agent is responsible for the full image .vs. icon behavior, and there is nothing you can do to prevent it. -
How do i map from file name to the device it resides on
hi
i need to find a way to map from a file name to the disk device it resides on( so i can do ioctl to that device ).
i know that stat(2) returns a dev_t value, but i don't know how to translate from that dev_t to the device name( e.g. /dev/dsk/c0d0... )
THANKS
Gabrielthanks for the reply,
i'm using a similar mechnisem on linux - using getmntent(3) to find the longest prefix of the filename realpath(3).
i was actually looking for a mechnisem similar to the devname(2) syscall on the BSD os. with this call the kernel do all the work for you simply by mapping from dev_t( which the kernel stored in the indoe) to the device name by keeping a simple mapping table.
if this mechinsem doesn't exists i will have to (eventually) duplicate the kernel work(namei) and create my own mapping.
THX

Hi from few days onwards i found one abnormality in my iphone4s .That is if i observe my phone settings screen from right side of the device top navigation bar appearing rightside height is more than the left side. In reverse manner from the left side. I dnt know whether it is default feature of iphone or not but i am really disappointed due to this. So please anyone help me in this issue and let me clear my doubt and make me happy. Thanks in advance.
I believe what you are seeing is an optical illusion when viewing the screen from the side. Try to align one of the one of the options in Settings, like General, with the navigation bar you'll see it does the same thing.
Hope that helps -
hi..when i'm buying the gem from clash of clans the device say your purchase succesful but i didnt receive any gem
I had this problem playing rage of bahamut on my iphone 5 ios 6.1.2. Another side effect was that I could not log into apple forums because it said session timed out. Turned out it was an app called onavo causing the issue by setting up a VPN. For some reason there is a delay in the transfer of data that apple did not like. I just went into the setting and turned the VPN off and all started working again. I don't know about your device but if you do have a VPN set up it should say VPN somewhere at the top near single strength. Hope this helps
