S60 5th - mark/unmark procedure needs improvement!

Hi all,
I think that the current way for marking/unmarking things in the 5530XM (and I've read is the same for the 5800) is too complicated!! When selecting several items (files, messages, appointments) it's nonsense to go to the menu for each of them. There should be a checkbox (or a menu item that makes appear checkboxes for purposes of multiple selection) that with a single tap would select things.
Something similar holds for to-do items: I wish to be able to mark items as completed just by tapping the checkbox besides it. Even better if it can be done in the homescreen!
Regards

The current mark/unmark function is anything but easy to use. Trying to mark an item for deletion actually is a bit slower than deleting items one at a time. Marking items may come to use when processing large files. In that case you would just leave the device to process them instead of waiting and tapping. I too hope this function will be enhanced in the future firmware updates. To get that fixed youd better tell nokia. This here is just us helping each other.

  • Hostsfile (hosts file) on Symbian S60 5th edition ...

Does anyone know if a hostsfile (or similar function as a hosts file) can be installed and how it can be used on Symbian S60 5th edition (for the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic)?
I've found on Wikipedia: ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hosts_file ) that it should be possible, it specifies folders where the file should be:
    Symbian OS 6.1-9.0
    C:\system\data\hosts
    Symbian OS 9.1+
    C:\private\10000882\hosts (AllFiles capable only)
but there is no more details about the needed file format, and I couldn't find any application dealing with a hostsfile on Symbian. Apparently, there used to be the Appgate Mobile Client, but I can't find it anymore.
I would appreciate any help/clue about this. Thank you.

    Hi
Yah  INT/5.00.50 and TW/5.00.60 on the N5230 work just fine. 5.00.50 is the last International version but it has a bug when navagating in landscape view, (the map looks out of sync, streets don't line up on the left and right side of the screen). That happens on the N97, N97 mini, N5230, and the Samsung HD, others say it happens on other Nokia phones, but I can't say that because I only have the phones I listed. Anyhow in the Tawain version 5.00.60 this was fixed. As a sidenote it has been rumored that Garmin has discontiued develpoment of there mobile XT product for Symbian because Nokia is offering their own product for free. But map updates will always work no matter what and in my opinion Garmin even without any more updates is and always will be a better mapping program than they very buggy Nokia/OVI Maps 3*..Lastly I am using Garmin on all my phones because Nokia/OVI maps 3.* turn by turn doesn't work properly on any of the phones I have, it is off by 250yards, (in back of) the actually position, (it tells you turn 250 yards after you already turned, crazy!) Whereas Nokia.OVI Maps V2.* never had that problem. I really wish Nokia would fix there current bugs before adding more buggy features...

only time will tell when these phones are released by SAMSUNG, NOKIA. For NSERIES recording at 30FPS is pretty dam good. near DVD quality. so when HD capture and recording are implemented into new phones i think there going to be really good with the help of Symbian OS 9.5 it can &  3D Accelerated Chip (used in N95, N82) can help improve the feature.

  • * * Procedure needs a way to  perform  update, insert or delete to...

    Hi Gurus,
I got Assignment & need your help how to write this procedure efficiently.
** The procedure needs a way to actually perform the update, insert or delete to bring the reference data up-to-date with the refresh table.**These columns are for internal use and should not be compared to the refresh tables.
    Column 1
    Column 4
    Column 5
    Column 7
    Column 9
    Column 12
    Column 22
    Column 24
    1)     I would list out the columns in the cursors in place of the *. Or better define a record with %ROWTYPE.
    2)     You will need to include a way to look for rows that may be in one table and not the other.
    a.     Insert the rows that exist in the refresh table, but are missing from the reference table.
    b.     Delete the rows that are found in the reference table, but do not appear in the refresh table.
    3)     You also need to provide for handling the expiration date. Our default expiration date is ‘01-JAN-2500’, meaning if the refresh table has a futuristic expiration date or null, then our default expiration date is considered valid. Also this date needs to be added to any new rows created as a result of the refresh, if you leave the EXPIRATION_DATE column out of the insert it should default to the above date.
    4)     I assume that Differences is where you plan to list the actual data values that differ. If you don’t list the whole row I would at least list the primary key, in addition to what columns are different.
    5)     The procedure needs a way to actually perform the update, insert or delete to bring the reference data up-to-date with the refresh table.
    Thanks in advance

Thank you. I have just seen that Shift+Enter and Shift+CenterNaviButton are the same. Do you know other 'shortcuts'? I know these ones: Ctrl + Shift or Ctrl + Space to toggle predictive text. Shift + backspace to delete character after pointer (edit mode) Ctrl + up/down navi button to jump per paragraph. Ctrl + left/right navi button to jump per word. And some usual ones such as copy, paste, select. Could any other user tell me the othe useful keyboard shortcut? Thank you. .

What the hell are you talking about??? N97 and 5800 are different??? N97 for rich-mans??? Hahahahha Just see this comparison, and you will notice, that N97 and 5800 is almost totally the same device:
    http://s60blog.com/2008/12/nokia-n97-vs-nokia-5800-xpressmusic/
N97 just more with the keyboard, and hopefully 5800 will get the widget-homescreen too, as both of them has the same operation system (s60v5), resolution and touchscreen...

  • In the next iTunes version I think the following are needed improvements:

Don't get me wrong, iTunes is the best and is totally awesome, but of course every program needs improvements from user feedback.
-iTunes automatically changes the EQ bases on the song that's playings Genre to make a better listening experience
-iTunes should automatically merge same albums together. Ex some of my albums are the same band name and album name and they have the same artwork (YES they are spellt the same too!) Also on my ipod touch some sync twice with some upper and some lower case.
Thanks I think this is much needed improvements
Also is there a way to overclock a 1st gen touch with IOS 3.1.3?
The processor is capable of 620MHZ but its pre clocked at 412MHZ
I would love it to be overclocked!

  • Music metadata editor for S60 5th

Is there a musin metadata editor for MP3 and/or AAC (ID3, etc) that runs on S60 5th?
Since the player is so dependant on metadata to organize stuff it would be good to have one editor in the phone itself for the ocasional update.
     Regards

    Yes.
    It's called the Music Player
Open the Music Player then go to Options -> Song Details
You can also add Album Art there if you want.

I have downloaded pictures to iphoto from my Canon Rebel XTI.  I can not email or move any pictures that are vertical.  Also, if I double click on the photo to enlarge it, the screen flills with a big exclamation mark.  I need to email these photos out.  HELP!  Also if I do a slide show with the album, those pictures do not show up.

    This:
if I double click on the photo to enlarge it, the screen flills with a big exclamation mark.
is why you can't do this:
I can not email or move any pictures that are vertical.
It means that iPhoto can't find the photos.
    What version of iPhoto?

  • Marking unmarking problem with nokia 5230.

Recently most of the college studends having Nokia 5230 or 5233 mobiles.
In this mobile, while marking unmarking, all time we have to go to option and select mark unmark. so please update software for this issue.

That one of few things I hate on my 5800, it is a real pain on the neck when you have many items to mark. That was never given any attention by Nokia and I doubt an update would be released to make it better.
If a reply has solved your problem click Accept as solution button, doing it will help others know the solution. Thanks.

  • N95, N96 dual CPU, N97 single? Dual CPU s60 5th ed...

I've been playing around with Nokia's new QT development stuff. It's all pretty neat. It would be even better if I could use it to develop for Symbian under Linux or Mac, but that asides..
I came across a list of platform types:
Installer for all S60 5.0 (5th Edition) devices with a single CPU, such as the N97 and 5800 XpressMusic
Seems reasonable, but I also saw:Installer for all S60 5.0 (5th Edition) devices with dual CPUs
Hmmmm.. dual CPU S60 5th edition?
It lists some S60 3rd edition dual cpu phones too: N95 and N96
So, why exactly is the N95/N96 dual cpu, but the N97 isn't? Sure that was a step backwards?
Interesting though.. I wonder what the first dual CPU S605th phone will be? Presumably, something faaar better than the somewhat dull N97! I mean, honestly.. who wouldn't put a decent GPU in their flagship phone? presumably the same people who would put OS storage in double digit MB.. grrrr ..

I aggree, however I'm not sure these devices are frog leaping to that extent.
In the case of the N95, the dual core refers to core CPU and an additional DSP and GPU
    N95: OMAP2420 - 330 MHz ARM1136 + 220 MHz C55x DSP + PowerVR MBX GPU
The N97, however,is of the same architecture (ARMv6) but with a higher clock rate (434MHz) It isn't a new generation chip per se. It's just running faster.. and without the GPU..
The N96 is a bit different.. Apparently the difference between the N95 v N96:
CPU: N96 has dual ARM9 264MHz with no floating point instructions (N95 has dual ARM11 332Mhz with vector floating point or graphics accelerator)
So, the N97 has the speed of the ARM11 from the N95, but all of the same missing features as the N96.. more or less..
This makes the prospect of a dual cpu s60 5th all the more intriguing
    (thanks to wikipedia)

  • Contacts download app for S60 5th

    Hello everybody,

  • Skyfire Browser for S60 5th

A short while ago the Skyfire browser for S60 5th edition phones was released in beta.
I've installed and have been giving it a try and I have to say that it's very good and extremely fast so would definitley reccomend trying this.
I know it sounds like it but I'm nothing to do with Skyfire nor am I getting commission...... ah wel!!!!
Oh.... best put a few smileys in having just read earlier posts.... some seem to think they're essential
    www.skyfire.com/product
    Rider5512

I was a huge fan of this up to a cople of weeks ago, but it seems that the Skyfire servers are now overloaded and data transfer is very slow. Connected through my WiFi I'm getting data transfer rates of less than 1Kb/s when Opera gives me 100s of Kb/s!
I wonder if Skyfire has become a victim of its own success - the best thing about Skyfire is that you can view streaming videos, but this will mean that Skyfire servers have to handle a much higher amount of data per user. A normal Opera browsing session may use only a few Mb data in an hour, but browsing videos on Skyfire will take 10 times that amount of data. That means Skyfire has to maintain 10 times the server infrastructor of Opera to support the same number of users.

  • Check Frequency Used on S60 5th edition (850 or 19...

    Hey,
I have a nokia 5800 xpressmusic (unlocked USA version.) It runs S60 5th edition.
I am considering getting a phone which only supports AT&T's 1900 mhz, and not their 850 mhz (it is primarily a European phone which also has 900/2100 mhz.)
Without getting into a discussion on which phone to get, can anyone tell me how to check what frequency is in use on my 5800?
    Thanks,
    Mike

There is no tool that I know of that will show which frequency is in use.  But I do know that in most major cities AT&T uses the 1900Mhz signal and they use the 850Mhz signal in rural areas.  The 850 towers are converted analog towers and the 1900 towers are dedicated digitals.
Using a Non US phone on AT&T's network, you will get Spotty to Good service in major cities (if the phone is a quadband phone) and limited to no service in rural areas.  Most of the time the Non US phone will be on AT&T free roaming networks most likely with T-Mobile(T-Mobile uses 2100Mhz in major cities); it will most likely say AT&T on the phone and you will not be charged a roaming fee.  I hope this helps.

  • S60 5th edition/ Nokia 5800 & N97

With the Nokia 5800 being the first Nokia to have the s60 5th edition OS, and N97 soon to follow, who thinks that the 5800 is being used as a end-user testing device for the upcoming N97.
dont get me wrong, i its not a bad idea, but i just wonder if 5800 owners will get some of the features which has been shown on the N97 such as live widgets on the home screen for example which looks absolutely brilliant.
what do you guys out there think?
