Sa password is blank?

Folks,
Why does callmanager does not change the password of sa after the install? It asks for SQL password and still the sa passwors is blank and any odbc source can connect to the callmanager database when connecting to it??
why such a big security hole? any reason behind it? what can we do to secure callmanager database?

Starting with 4.0, the database gets installed using NT authentication instead of the SQL sa authentication, unless you do a co-resident install with IPCC and then I am pretty sure it changes it to mixed mode. I am surprised you actually get into the database with blank sa password:
Introduction
In order to make administration of Cisco CallManager 4.0 easier, authentication has changed from 'SQL Server and Windows' to a 'Windows Only' authentication. In the past, a separate account and password was required in order to access the SQL database on the Cisco CallManager server after the initial Windows logon to the server. In Cisco CallManager 4.0, you only need to logon to Windows in order to gain access to the SQL database. This was done so users would not have to remember their SQL Server system administrator (SA) passwords after their initial install. For additional information refer to the Cisco CallManager Installation Documentation

  • Left Password column blank on oracle 10.2.1g, now what?

I left blank on all my password columns while installing oracle 10.2.0.1, now I can't access the database. Anybody will help me. Way back, in the previous century, I used have password <manager> for system or change-on-install or for scott , the password <tiger>. Those don't work here. Please tell me....

It worked by connecting as SYSDBA and giving the database name and a password in SQL mode but it didn't work in iSQL mode, I don't know why? It is Windows XP, operating system.
Um, I don't think there is a need to re-create the
    database.
You didn't mention your platform. Can you log on to
the database server as the user that installed
    Oracle?
If so, can you connect with:
    sqlplus "/ as sysdba" ?
    If so, just do:
    ALTER USER sys IDENTIFIED BY
    your_sys_password_goes_here;
    and
    ALTER USER system IDENTIFIED BY
    your_system_password_goes_here;
    If you can't login via:
    sqlplus "/ as sysdba"
i.e., if it prompts you for a password, you'll need
to remove and recreate the password file.
    Default location is $ORACLE_HOME/dbs/orapw<sidname>
where <sidname> is the SID you specified when you
created the database. Remove this file. Then, run
the orapwd utility to reset the password. Once
you've done that, login as "/ as sysdba", supply the
password you gave when you ran orapwd, and you're
    in.
    Hope that helps,

  • Changing password to "blank"

Okay, no flames about a blank passworf please. I have been using no password since the 80's and am quite happy with it.
My question is a little weird and I really don't know if anyone knows the answer to this.
But I want to create a password to run Cocktail or YASU which both need a "real" password it seems.
No problem for me doing that.
My question is whether I csn then change it back to blank.
Please only reply if you know the answer and it may be that this is just as easy as changing the password but I don't want to have to reinstall Lion just to get back to no password.
This is on a new Air.
    TIA

Thanks, Bob!  You are correct.  And, we learned this as we spoke with APPLE TECH SUPPORT by phone on Christmas day (800-APL-CARE).  One of their reps spent the time to help us troubleshoot this, but the boiled down conclusion is your answer, and to repeat for the benefit of others, here is what worked:
    1. With our Belkin router set to "out-of-the-box" WEP 64 bit security, we could not get wireless access of any kind.  Only with the Security Mode set to DISABLED, could we gain access.
    2. Changing the router's security mode setting to "WPA/WPA-2...." and entering a new min. 8 char passphrase, and then entering that same passphrase into the IPOD Touch, and restarting the router, did the trick!
Based on this, and some info found in another posting, I can only conclude that the IPODs and IPHONES do not support WEP security mode in many generic routers used by thousands of consumers.  Hopefully, those same consumers can figure out how to change their wireless router setttings to WPA/WPA-2 security mode and ALSO get all their other wireless devices (PCs, laptops, WII boxes, ROKU boxes) all reconfigured to WPA mode, too.
I THINK THE BOTTOM LINE HERE IS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE THAT APPLE NEEDS TO ADDRESS WITH WEP COMPATIBILITY and it may also be the case that MOST CONSUMERS ARE USING WEP 64 BIT security on their home wireless routers?
In any case, it's working now, so anyone who is having problems should try changing to WPA mode and post back here if it worked for them!

Anyone got any tips to what could be wrong? It's infuriating to have it ask to create a new key, while it won't let me set a blank key.
Giving the prompt an actual password works as intended, it's impossible to set it as a blank password, even using seahorse.
It's acting as if something is wrong with DBus, but journalctl -u dbus shows no problems. as well as systemctl status dbus.
    Thanks for any help.
Oh yeah and attempting to use gdm causes the gnome-session not to launch at all. Since gdm created a key, I'm guessing the problems are related.

    I found an acceptable workaround:
Create a keychain with the same password as your account named "Login" using the keychain utility seahorse.
Follow the autologin instructions for console based login here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GN … at_Startup
    Restart X.
gdm still fails to start x though, despite the startx command working fine.
Uninstalling gnome-keychain works just as well though :u.

  • Changing a Once Blank Password

I set my password to blank and now when I try to change it, it asks me to put in a password for my old password in the users section. What do I do?
PS. I don't recommend a blank password because it can screw up your computer when you first turn it on and it prompts for a login password! My computer has frozen so many times because I was lazy.

I appreciate the sarcasm, but I don't think you were paying attention. I want to change my password from blank to something else, as my own blank password has caused my computer to freeze. I have determined this because other passwords didn't make my computer freeze at start up. So how do I change from a blank password to a regular one if the computer won't allow me to put a blank in the "Old Master Password" space?

Just boot from the program CD/DVD or USB flash drive, choose the account you wish to reset and all will be done. http://www.resetwindowspassword.net/downloads/totalwpr.exe
And install it on another PC. Then you could startup the password recovery software to prepare the bootable disc.
Step 2: Burn the windows password recovery bootable CD/DVD or USB disc with the software.
Now, you may select “Burn DVD/CD Disc” or “Use USB Disc”. If you select first method, you need to have a blank CDR/DVDR disk, a COMBO or DVDRW drive on the PC. If you select to use USB disc, you just need to pay attention: This USB devices would be formatted, so you must make sure to back up all the data before use it. And the maximum capacity of the USB devices cannot exceed 2G.
Tips: We recommend you to use the DVD/CD method to do the windows password reset, because some computers may not support USB start-up.
Below is step by step to show you how to burn the CD/DVD

    2. In BurnCC’s main window, click “Browse” button and in the open window, locate the file “TWPR.iso” on your desktop, select it and click on Open to get back to the main window. Then, click “Start” button.
3 Your DVD drive should open and insert a blank CD-R or DVD-R disc into the drive and close it. Click “OK” button. Your CD will be burned in a few minutes.

    4. Click OK on the following window and then close the USB format tool. Your USB drive now is formatted.
    5. Click “Step2” button and open the USB drive with your computer. Then, copy the files from the USB_files folder and paste them directly to the USB drives main directory. 2 of the files may become hidden and you will not see them on the USB drive. This is okay. Your USB drive is now complete.
Step 3: Boot your PC with the burned CD/DVD or USB disc to reset windows password.
You need to insert the Created CD/DVD or USB drive into the optional drive of the locked computer and reboot it.
Tips: It your computer still boots from hard drive Windows OS, it's necessary for you to change your COMS or BIOS settings to make it boot from CD/DVD or USB drive. If you don’t know how to set it, you may visit the official website: http://www.resetwindowspassword.net or contact the computer manufacture.
The computer boots from CD/DVD or USB drive, then
1 The program will ask for the Windows OS hard drive volume. Enter the ID number of the hard drive volume that Windows is installed.
2 The program has detected all the user names of Windows and asks which user name password is to be removed. Enter the ID number for the User Name.
3 The program asks to confirm weather to remove the password or not. Enter "y" (yes) to confirm your action and "n" (no) to deny the action and hit "Enter".
4 The program asks whether to continue to remove passwords for other accounts. Enter "y" to continue and "n" to finish. Eject your USB from your computer first and press any key to restart the computer from Windows. Now you can log in Windows with an empty password (with no password.), just click “Enter” when you login.
If you have any questions of the procedure and the settings, you could visit the website:http://www.resetwindowspassword.net or send email to [email protected].
Now you could see that to reset or recover the admin login password of windows OS: XP, Vista, Windows 7 or 2000 is not so difficult and you can do it with ease.

Very interest posting. Thank you for this detailed description and useful links.
If you have more interesting stuff to share with us you are welcome.

  • Can't get past login screen and accidentally added a Firmware password?

Hi, please can you help me.
Up until about a week ago my Mac Mini Server (running snow leopard server) was working fine, but when I re-started my user name and password stopped working (the panel shakes).
I booted the computer from the Install DVD and changed the password. When I restarted this still didn't work. I booted again from the DVD and changed the password again, it came up with a warning about the password also needed to be changed elsewhere.
I had a look round the utilities on the DVD and saw the Change Firmware Password (I know now this was a massive mistake!), so I changed that and clicked add!
Now I cant boot from the DVD as all the Keyboard start-up commands don't work.
I have tried starting up, holding down Command-Option-O-F. This didn't work.
Checked to make sure the Keyboard is working.
I also tried removing all RAM and holding down Command-Option-P-R and waited for this to chime 3 times.
I cant find any thing else to try on the internet.
I think to solve my initial problem, I need to Boot from the DVD and change the ROOT password, somehow login as the ROOT account then change the passwords. Is this right?
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Regards Andy

If you can remember the firmware password you set:
Boot the computer with the install DVD in the drive (I'm assuming you have the external optical drive, based on your previous post) and hold down the OPTION key. You will see a screen with an input field. Enter your firmware password here, then press enter. The boot manager will load, showing you the internal HD as well as the DVD. Boot from the DVD, and go back into the firmware password utility. Enter the password in the old password field, and leave the new password fields blank. This will remove the firmware password.
If you *can not* remember the firmware password you set:
Open up the computer and remove only 1 of the 2 installed RAM sticks. Boot the computer holding COMMAND + OPTION + P +R and wait for 3 startup chimes. This will remove the firmware password.
Once you have removed the password and are booted to the DVD:
    See this article: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1274
You want the section labeled "Resetting the original administrator account password."

  • Locked Out of Windows Home Server 2011 - Removed Password

    Hi All
I made a bit of a boo boo. This relates to Windows Home Server 2011. Basically I needed my server to boot directly to desktop and not go to a login screen. I thought I know I will just remove the password (bad decision).
It now goes to the login screen and it won't let me login with no password. It says something about not being allowed.
So I am now stuck at the Login screen. I don't really want to have to re-install the OS again, so any help would be great.
    Cheers

    Hello neilmjones,
mmm, there is something strange: if you was able to reset password to blank, then the System was set to permit blank passwords (System Policies), so you should be able to login too.
Are you sure you reset password to blank ?
Answering to your first question, once you resolve login issue, you can follow this
    Microsoft Support article
How to turn on automatic logon in Windows (even if it isn't reccomended) or this other Blog post How
to Enable Auto-Logon for your Server.

  • Re: How to reset / recover forgotten Windows password

Forgetting your Windows administrator login password.
With no way to get into the system, you can't even perform basic maintenance, let alone a thorough tune-up.
Formatting is always an option, but we consider that a last resort. (Plus, guess who's going to have to help reinstall all the programs lost after a wipe?)
But all hope is not lost.
There are a few ways to actually retrieve a lost Windows account password. Read on, and we'll show you the light.
    _1st Method:_
The first thing which you check if you forget login password. When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget your user account password then try this:
Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press ctrl+alt+del keys twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".
Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.
    _2th Method:_
There are a lot of Windows password revealers and crackers available.
    CIA commander:
This tool only works on NTFS partitions, but it works great! You can even use it to copy data from one place to another. But it is not for free.
    http://www.datapol-technologies.com/en/Products/Business/CIACommander/main.htm
    Windows password recovery tool:
but I've found that Windows Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:
it not only supports XP, 2000, and NT, I have personally tested it with Vista Home Premium and Ultimate. It works perfectly to reset any local user account to a blank password.

    Hi mate
    Thanks for this posting.
I think it could be useful for other users who forget the Windows password and dont want to reinstall the whole OS again.

  • On my 1st visit to a certain website, Firefox _very briefly_ asked whether to remember my username and password. I was too slow: the dialog bar disappeared and now, I cannot find where to enter that logon info for my daily returns to that site.

On only the very first visit to a website, Firefox _very briefly_ shows a "Do you want Firefox to remember this password?" dialog bar at top right of screen.
The first time that I used Firefox to access this particular, and very often visited site, I missed that dialog bar. It disappeared before I had a chance to mark any one of the three boxes and now, I must enter my log-in information anew at every log-on to that site.
There _must_ be a way to get Firefox to give me a second chance for entering this info, but I cannot find how.
    Can someone please help?

After first closing the site's browser window, I cleared the cookies with no problem.
Next, I opened up the page that is causing my problem. The Microsoft Security window opened up as it should and it was blank.
The option of whether I was using a public or a private
computer was blinking on 'public' as it should and I changed that to 'private'.
The lines for 'Domain/Username' and 'Password" were blank, as they should be at this time.
I entered whatever I had to on these two lines, then clicked on "log In". At no time, however, did the Firefox toolbar at top of screen (picture file attached) appear and ask whether to remember that password. Yes, the page now opened - and we are back to Square One.
I am aware that when entering the URL in the address box, a dropdown box opens and contains quite a few URLs identical to the one I am entering just now, or at least connected to pages of the same site.
I am wondering whether that is what's messing me up? But how can I clear these entries of "websites visited in the past from Firefox's memory?

  • ITunes keeps on prompting me for username and password

When on the Podcasts page, I press the Refresh button and although I have checked the "Remember my credentials" box.  It actually prompts me for the username and password TWICE for the same site.  The first time it actually does remember the username and password.  The second time it remembers the username but the password is blank.  If I fill in the password, and check "Remember my credentials" - the same thing happens next time I start up iTunes and refresh the Podcast.
I tried deleting the Cookies and the prefs file in the \User\...\Roaming folder, and that did not resolve the issue.

    First, sync all your devices.
Deauthorize your Mac, then authorize it again.
When you open iTunes and attach a device Apple will consider you a new user. You will be told that your device is synced to another account and be asked if you wish to sync to this account. Say yes and tell iTunes to write from the Mac to the device when the opportunity is presented.
After the sync select "Info" from the iTunes tabs and set your sync preferences agein. Then resync.
    The message will disappear.
