SA40-231, dvd/r sd-r6112 doesn't work

I bought my sa40-231 some time ago and only recently realised that it is supposed to come with a dvd/r. This of course is partly my fault, but my computer doesnt register it as a dvd burner either and no matter what I do i can't make it burn dvd's. what could be wrong? burning cd's works perfectly, but have tried dvd's for 3 days now and nothing seems to work.
regards,
Magnus S. Kolbjornsen

I have tried with both DVD/R and DVD/RW, both with the same result, and every time I try to install drivers I get a message that they are not needed. I am running windows xp, and I see from other posts on here that it is supposed to pick up my drive automatically without the need for drivers. Also I can't seem to find any place to dowload them. All links on the toshiba website lead nowhere. I have tried every conceivable thing I can think of and am in need of some new ideas.

  • I have purchased the Adobe Creative Suite 4 and now my first dvd of the software doesn't work anymor

I have purchased the Adobe Creative Suite 4 and now my first dvd of the software doesn't work anymore. My computer doesn't want to read it anymore. I want to mention that I also tried on some other computers and still the problems continues. How can I solve this? On the Adobe webpage I can't find anymore the download for Adobe CS4. Thanks. You can download the software from http://prodesigntools.com/download-adobe-cs4-and-cs3-free-trials-here.html and can serialize it with the serial number you have.

  • I recently updated to Leopard, and now DVD Studio Pro 3 doesn't work.

    Hey,
So I have a 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 iMac (old skool, yes I know) and I reciently updated from my OS 10.3 to Leopard 10.5.6 (mostly because the internet would no longer work and I had to update or I couldn't get the latest browsers.)
However, I just reciently discovered that while my FCP HD 4.5 has been working like it used to, my DVD SP 3 no longer works. This has been a horrible surprise for me, especially since I need to burn a DVD for a project I'm working on.  I've been searching all over the internet and these forums for the solution, but nothing has helped.
Here is the problem:  When I open DVD SP 3 and try to save anything, the program crashes and disappears.
Apparently I've been getting an "Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS) Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x000000000000070b Crashed Thread:  0" error.
One of the solutions I read to fix this problem was to try deleting my User Prefrences. I did this, restarted, and now when I tried to use the program, I was able to open DVD SP, import an asset, and SAVE! However, once I tried to drag an asset into the menu screen or do anything productive with those assets, I get a new error message that reads "The document “soultrain” could not be saved."
I tried opening an old file from before the upgrade and was able to not only access it, but burn a fully fuctional dvd.  This leads me to believe that the program can't be completely incompatible with OS 10.5.6, but whats stopping me from saving?
Another solution I read about here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1113 said that the solution was to upgrade from Pro Application Support 3.1 to Pro Application Support 4.0.  It describes almost exactly the problem I'm having, however, PAS 4.0 doesn't seem to be available anywhere on the Apple Support Downloads site.  I google searched the patch and was able to find it elsewhere. However when I tried to install it I was now getting a Javascript error that read: "You cannot install Pro Application Support on this volume. There was an error evaluating JavaScript for the package."
After upgrading Java, restarting, and trying again, I still get the same error.
I am at a total loss.  I really really need some help with this problem.

I don't know if this helps, but I'm still working on this problem and took a screen shot of my Console Message errors:
What's happening here is opening the program, trying to save and it crashes. Then trying to open the program again and it crashing before it even opens.  Finally opening the program a third time and trying to save it using "save as" instead of "save" (which I found one forum recommending) and it crashing again.

  • Apple DVD Player 5.4 Doesn't Work

I recently updated my MacPro to 10.6.5. Included in this update is a new version of Apple's DVD Player. The new version of DVD Player is 5.4. The installation package includes the application and an entirely new system framework to support it. Unfortunately, it doesn't work on my system.
As a reference point, my MBP is still running 10.6.4. It has DVD Player 5.2. It works great.
I'm unable to play DVD's or load a VIDEO_TS folder using the latest version of DVD Player on my MacPro. I didn't have any problems with DVD Player up until the Mac OS 10.6.5 update.
Further, VLC on my MacPro works fine. This problem exists for all users on my MacPro.
I tried to reinstall DVD Player 5.4 using Pacifist, but there was no change. I dl'd the 10.6.5 package from Apple when I did this. I also tried to reinstall the 5.4.1 framework.
Has anyone else experienced this problem? Are there any known fixes, I prefer to use DVD player over VLC. Nothing against VLC, but DVD Player is a great app when it works.
    Thanks!

Yea, I got to thinking about that after I posted. You're right, Boot Camp is safe.
What's very strange is I tried a LOTR DVD over the weekend and it played fine. Thinking it to be a fluke, I tried another ... this time Elf. It worked. I then tried playing from two different VIDEO_TS folders on my HD. They worked too.
I can't explain it. I tried to surgically remove all of the key video player components (including the framework). I then reinstalled these files using the 10.6.5 combo update. No change. I then restored these files using Time Machine (I didn't want to risk messing something else up as there are quite a lot of dependencies stitched together via symlinks at the framework level).
So I should've been back to where I started. A few days later, everything appears to be working.
I have no answers, but I'm glad to have my DVD Player back.
This is off topic, but I also solved a problem I've been having with my mouse for YEARS. I had problems with the Mighty Mouse and later the Magic Mouse on my MacPro. I thought it was my desk. That is, I thought the surface of my desk was causing tracking problems. Very annoying tracking problems. I know, I should've considered bluetooth, but I didn't. To be honest, I wasn't experiencing any other bluetooth related problems so I really thought it was my desk. This problem became unbearable when I was working in Maya last week so I started researching mouse surfaces and mouse pads again (ha!). I inadvertently found this obscure PDF via google. It was written by some guy who was having the same problem 2-3 years ago. Following this guy's procedure, I cracked open my MacPro and moved three difficult to reach wires. Now my Magic Mouse is as smooth as glass. As is my older Mighty Mouse. It turns out that my Airport and Bluetooth modules were wired incorrectly at the factory in China. Honestly, this has been screwed up since 2007. Apparently, this has happened to quite a few people though I never heard about it until now. It would've been nice if Apple would've published something when they discovered they had shipped units with incorrectly wired Bluetooth modules! (if they did, I've yet to find anything from them on the subject). Whatever, I'm glad to have my MacPro's mouse working properly.

  • DVD player Tempo link doesn't work

Toshiba Tempo advised me that a new DVD player driver was available dvdpl-20070807102909.zip but the link just will not work in Internet Explorer.
The link is http//www.download1.stage.toshiba.eu but I get a message that Internet Explorer cannot find the blank page??

  • SD-V296KU DVD/VCR Combo - VCR doesn't work

The DVD side works fine, but the VCR side is doing something weird.
The tape will play, rewind, etc., but there is no picture or sound.
The TV screen just shows the DVD image as if that function was on.
Don't know if there could be a TV compatibility issue
The TV is a Samsung, model UN46EH6000FXZA
    Thank you!

    buster44 -
Thanks for that info, and I suspect the other posters will find that this is the reason.
I don't have the SD-V296, and I had assumed its inputs/outputs were similar to the DVR620, which I do have. But that is definitely not the case.
In looking at the manual for the SD-V296, I see that there are a number of outputs just for DVD. Those include RCA L/R audio out, S-Video out, and component (YPbPr). Anything connected to those outputs and going to a TV will mean that only DVD audio/video output will be seen on the TV. VCR playback would show black/blue screen with no audio. Then there is a DVD/VCR output set for composite video plus L/R audio. If you want VCR output, you must use this one. There is also an input for the VCR that would have no impact on DVD since this unit does not record on DVD. There is no HDMI output. (The manual has a 2008 date, so this is a relatively old unit).
So for optimal use of the SD-V296, run the YPbPr into your TV (the 3 component video cables) + plus the DVD audio out into your HD input on your TV. That will be for DVD viewing only on your TV. Then run the composite video + L/R output into your TV into AUX/Video1/etc. (whatever it may be called).  That will be for VCR viewing, although DVD can be viewed there, just not as good of a picture as you will through your HD input.

  • DVD Remote "skip" Function Doesn't Work for Blu-ray Projects (CS5 Encore)

I have graduated from SD to HD and I need help.
I just finished my first HD project in CS5, burned it to a Blu-ray disk and immediately encountered a problem: the skip forward and the skip backward remote functions don’t work. (I have encountered several other problems on the way to get here but I solved those with the help of the manual and by browsing this forum ). In this project, I am doing exactly what I have done in my previous SD projects (where this function works):
In CS5 Encore, I added “Chapter Points at Intervals…”.
On the timeline Properties Panel, I kept the default selection “Operations: All Permitted” (that includes “Search for Chapter” in the “Permitted User Operations” menu).
In the “Project Preview” window, clicking on the “Next Chapter” or “Previous Chapter”, the function is executed correctly.
Still, after burning the blu-ray disk and pressing the “skip forward” or “skip backward” buttons on the Blu-ray player (Panasonic DMP-BD65) remote, the “Operation is not permitted” message appears. (This very remote button function works on all my SD projects.)
More background info: I am also using Encore Chapter Markers from the PrPro project linked with Adobe Dynamic Link, chapter marker End Actions (Jeff’s The Focal Easy Guide to Adobe Encore DVD 2.0, pp. 178-180), and Bill’s advice on using the “dip to black” transition to avoid the ~1 second gap between chapters in the Chapter Playlist that I use to play all chapters.  The following observation may be unrelated: in Encore’s Monitor Panel, the “Step Forward” button with pressing the Alt key does not move the CTI to the next GOP mark. The “Step Forward” or “Step Backward” functions (without pressing the Alt key) work (moving the CTI one frame)..
At this point, I desperately need the Forum’s help.
    Thanks,
         - Laci.

Up to now I worked only with standard definition projects and outputted them
to DVDs. This is my HD project. My problem is that I am a bit confused with
the proper (and simple) settings for a blu-ray project. Your
questions/comments imply that I am making a "DVD project" - but then, how
can I burn it to a BD?
Here is what I am doing, and please, let me know if/where I am making my
    mistake:
    1.       On the camcorder the recording format is set to "AVCHD 1080/60i
    HA".
    2.       In the CS5 PrPro new project:
    a.       General > Capture Format: HDV
    b.      New Sequence > Sequence Preset > AVCHD > "AVCHD 1080i30 (60i)".
    3.       In Encore: File >  Project Settings > Basic:
    a.       Authoring Mode: "Blu-ray"
    b.      Transcode Settings: "Codec: MPEG-2; Dimensions: 1920 x 1080; Frame
Rate: 29.97, Fields: Upper Field First, Audio Transcoding Scheme: Dolby
Digital, Maximum Audio/Video Bitrate: 15.0 Mbps"
    c.       In the "Default Transcode Settings" window, the Blu-ray tab is
highlighted. (There, I could change the codec from MPEG-2 to H.264 -
according to some articles it would give slightly better quality in certain
    circumstances - I don't know.)
    d.      On the Encore Project Panel, right clicking on the sequences, and
choosing "Transcode Settings" from the menu, I get a window that says "DVD
Transcoding" and "Blu-ray Transcoding". In the Blu-ray Transcoding section,
I choose Codec: MPEG-2, Dimension 1920x1080, Frame Rate: 29.97, Quality
    Preset: Automatic Using Project Settings.
    e.       Going into the "Edit Quality Presets", I change the "Export
Settings Preset" to "1920x1080i 29.97 Maximum Quality" (from the 1280x720)
    4.       Now, in the Project Panel, under the Blu-ray Transcode Settings I
    see: "1920x1080i 29.97 Maximum Quality MPEG-2".
Are these the correct settings for a high quality Blu-ray project? I am
re-transcoding the project with these settings to see if I still get the bad
    transitions.
    Thanks for your advice,
    Laci.

  • Running Recovery DVD Win8 pro, keyboard doesn't work

    hello,
i've got thinkCentre E93 with win 7 pro instaled, and i'm trying to recover win 8, using "recovery Media for Windows 8 products", which was in my computer's box.
After rebooting computer with this DVD:
    - it starts to load files,
    - Lenovo Recovery and Restore 4.0 starts,
    - pops up a window to  choise language,
    - keyboard and mouse fail, i'm not able to make any move, exept from turning of the computer.
I've tryed wired, and wireless keybords, they work in Win 7, and in BIOS, but not with Recovery media. any clues?
I'don't have .iso of Win 8 prof to install it direcly.

    Dear podjaadek
During the popup windows to language selection, disconnect keyboard and mouse and reconnect again. If still does not work, wait for few second or try to connect to other ports.

  • DVD menu doesn't work right in DVD players

I've created a DVD in Encore for Mac.  It plays fine on my Mac and on Windows.  However, once it is inserted into a stand alone DVD player, the menu doesn't work right.  I have four text menus.  In the DVD player, none of those are navigable.  Arrowing up or down doesn't work.  You have to click a number on the remote keypad and then play. This also causes "Channel 1" or "Channel 2" and so on to display.  Any ideas how I can get the arrow keys to work?  I don't have a stand alone dvd player to test against.
Also, in Windows, I have someone that wants to duplicate the dvd.  They're using Movie Maker.  It gives an error that the codec is not installed but doesn't say which codec.  Any ideas on that?

The only time I recall similar problems was the issue Jeff was asking about above (Mac, Encore CS3, certain OS).  If you don't solve this otherwise, I'd experiment with that.
You appear to have confirmed that there is button navigation.  (In button routing, each button points to another.)  Where does it break down?
On the Mac/PC, are you using the mouse?  In the computer DVD software player, there should be a "remote" that you can use to see if the button navigation is working.  Does the computer "remote" option work?  If so, it makes it not working in a standalone player even odder.
If not, then look at whether the project works before you burn to disk.  Does the "remote" work in the Encore preview?  Or build to a folder, then play the DVD from the folder.  (I don't know how on Mac; on PC, I find the first .ifo in the VIDEO_TS folder, and play that.)

  • Burned DVD - menu doesn't work

I'm fairly new to all this and have created a slideshow in iMovie and then created a DVD in iDVD. In iDVD it all works (there is just one menu item). But when I burn to disc image (or even burn a dvd) the menu link doesn't work - it just starts over the main screen. However, with the mac dvd player if I go to the menu, I can access it through "title".
    HELP!
    Many thanks!
    bchina

Try closing iDVD and trashing the file called com.Apple.iDVD.plist located in User/Library/Preferences. iDVD will create a new file upon relaunch. Then repair permissions using the Utilities/Disk Utility app on your Mac. After deleting coded assets, try burning again.
When you burn again, I would burn from a disk image rather then directly from your iDVD project. Open your iDVD project, Delete Coded Assets from the Advanced menu, and save your project as a Disk Image on your hard drive. The assets will re-encode, taking a little time. Play the disk image with your computer's DVD Player application and see if the menu button works on the disk image. If it does, your initial problem might be caused by bad media. Burn a new DVD disk from the disk image at 4x speed, using Verbatim or Maxell DVD-R disks. See if that works.
    Hope this helps.

  • MBP late 2011 disc driver doesn't work

Before I updated the OS to 10.9.1, my disc driver worked well and I usedbootcamp to set up WIN 7 for several times. But afterwards, when I tried to reset the bootcamp win7, I did like I always did, delete the former os harddrive part, then I started to reset the win7, I found that the disc driver doesn't work.
When I insert a disc, it would be push out whatever disc I insert, os disc, cd, dvd. It just doesn't work.
I don't know if it is broken or just beacuse of the new 10.9.1
    I need some help.
Thanks for you all who are willing to see this.

It sounds like the lens on your optical drive is dirty. Use a cleaning DVD or wrap a microfiber cloth around a credit card and carefully slide it in and out a few times.

  • PowerMac G5 doesn't work anymore simply due to a DVD-ROM drive removal!

Hello, here's what's happened (I'll write using the "present" because I'm not English).
This happened about two days ago:
I need to read an Ultra ATA hard disk, so I power off the Mac.
I remove the SuperDrive DVD-ROM and I connect the hard disk in its place (I already made this with other ATA hard disks in past and it always was OK).
    I close the Mac.
I try to start: nothing! The light on the power-on button of the Screen (Apple Cinema Display 20" plastic) and the light on the power-on button of the Mac case starts flashing 3 times (then stop, than other three times, etc...).
So I power off. I change the jumper configuration of the hard disk, like the Super Drive. I try again: NOTHING. Always three-times flashing the lights.
So I power off. I re-install the DVD drive, close the Mac again and restart it.
SURPRISE: the same symptom! The computer doesn't start and always makes the three-times flashing lights...
So I tried totally removing the DVD drive, and restarting it without it: nothing: same symptom.
Unfortunately I made these attempts forgetting to disconnect the power cable of the Mac!
Then I start trying with other RAM configurations, hoping that just a RAM module got burned. I have 6 ram modules (512 MB each).
I try lots of combinations... nothing, always same symptom.
Finally, I disconnect the power cord again, I re-install all the RAM modules, an I try to reset the CMOS: I remove the Motherboard battery for some seconds.
Than I re-install the battery, close the Mac, connect the power cord, restart it: it works!!!
I go in System Info, and I see that it doesn't recognize two of the 6 RAM modules: just 4. The slots of the other 2 not recognized DIMM modules seems empty, but there is the ram!
So I power off the Mac Again. I disconnect the power cord.
I change the RAM modules positions. I try again: nothing! Again the three-times flashing lights symptom, and always black screen again.
So I try again by removing the CMOS battery... nothing... always flashing...
After lots of attempts (also changing again the RAM positions, trying to remember how it was when it worked...)... nothing.
    I power off the Mac.
After about an hour, I simply try to power on it... IT WORKED!!!
I used it too... went on Internet, etc... Finished working, I powered it off and went to bed.
The day after, I tried to power it on... nothing! Always three times flashing lights...
From that moment, it was totally impossible to let it work...
I tried to change the RAM positions again... I tried also pressing every time the reset button on the Mother Board... nothing...
The only different symptom that I obtained, a couple of times, was that the two lights (on the Screen button and on the Mac tower button) didn't flash, but was always on.... but it didn't run anyway: totally black screen.
How is this possible? Durin 18 years of computer hardware experience, NEVER happened that a computer got broken just removing and re-installing a DVD-ROM drive!
And I'd never imagined that removing a DVD-ROM could be a dangerous operation... It seems to me just like a car that got broken if I replace the cigarette lighter...
What do you think? how is this possible?
If the CPU or the Motherboard or the RAM too got broken... simply it NEVER should run... on the contrary two times it worked very well!... with a broken Motherboard or CPU??? ...mmmm... so strange....
If the RAM got broken... how is this possible? 6 ram modules burned together??? It seems so absurd... (in past there were 8 RAM modules... one or two got broken... so I removed them and it worked again... but not 6 !!!!).
    Any opinion?
    Any practical advice?
    Prevision of costs?
    Thank you!!!

Hi Wolfman I have an update of the situation.
We tried moving the RAM modules again... and at one point it worked! With just 2 RAM modules.
But at the green screen (with the gray apple darker) it blocked.
So we removed the two RAM modules and installed other two modules: it worked again! These two last modules are 512 MB each.
So we restarted the system pressing "c" with the OSX DVD in the drive, and it worked! I used System diagnostic OSX utility and it found the 2 ram modules, but of 256 MB each instead of 512 !!! How is this possible? (if they were broken OK, but detect just half of its size seems so strange...).
Than we restarted it again connecting an OSX bootable external Fire Wire LaCie hard disk (FW400 port), and it worked!
We used DISK UTILITY to test the internal boot hard disk and it gave me an error (verify disk).
The Disk utility was unable to repair the disk.
    Another damage!
I remember that in the past attempts it booted once (not three times flashing) and stopped at the grey screen... (I think: maybe due to the boot hard disk error!).
Unfortunately this external bootable firewire disk has got some problem and it sometimes blocks itself emitting a "clic".
So I powered the mac off and connected another newer firewire lacie bootable hard disk. I connected it in the FW800 port. I rebooted and... surprise: three times flashing light again!!!
No way to let it pass this wall, no initial "sound" again... nothing!
So I removed the FW800 drive, and changed the RAM again (inverted them, always two internal slots n. 1 and 2): it worked!
I booted from the FW400 hard disk, and it worked. I was able to backup some data from the internal hard disk (in order to be able to try to solve the error initializing it), and I tried again to boot with the FW800 hard disk (I want a stable system while initializing a drive!).
As I connected the FW800 hard disk again, I tried to reboot... nothing! Again the three-times flashing light error! No sound... black screen again...
(So, simply removing a DVD ROM I got RAM broken, maybe the Logic board, the hard disk too... maybe the FireWire 800 port too.... mmmm.... this mac is possessed! And it is connected through a professional power stabilizer too!).
So after several attempts with RAM, cmos reset, firmware reset (power it up holding the power on button for some seconds), etc... I got it working again...
So this time I rebooted it pressing "c" and I initialized the internal hard disk using the OSX DVD as boot drive...
Then I rebooted from the FW400 hard disk and I used CarbonCopyCloner to restore an internal hard disk clone OSX complete installation from a .dmg image file in the FW800 lacie hard disk... but this time I connected it not using the FW800 port but through the USB 2.0 port... and it was able to copy the data.
The computer was working... able to boot... no three times flashing error... no FW800 connections... always rebooting OK... the internal hard disk initialized, working, with NO errors (disk utility tested), made bootable...
I tried to reboot again (with no "c" or "alt" pressing, hoping the internal boot hard disk working again): nothing!
THREE TIMES FLASHING LIGHT AGAIN!!! No way to solve the problem now... always flashing...
What is happening here??? I don't understand! I use computers (instable DOS/Windows computers mainly!!!) form about 18 years... never seen a so strange behaviour!!!
We'll try to gather money to replace the RAM, before thinking to a Logic Board replacement...
    Your opinion?
    Thanks!

  • What can I do if my CD or DVD drive doesn't work properly in Windows 8?

QuestionWhat can I do when if my laptop CD or DVD drive doesn't work properly in Windows 8?
AnswerNote: For help with this issue in Windows 7, please see this article.
To get your CD or DVD drive working correctly, try these suggestions in the order listed.
    Reinstall the Driver
Hold the Windows key and press the 'x' key to open a menu in the lower-left. In this menu, select "Device Manager." Expand "DVD/CD-ROM drives." Right-click the entry for the CD/DVD drive nested under "DVD/CD-ROM drives," then select "Uninstall." Finally, restart the computer. The computer will reinstall the drivers for the drive.
    Power Cycle
Even when your laptop is off and unplugged, residual power can still be held in some components. While this is normal, clearing it can help with some hardware problems. Perform these steps to complete what’s called a power cycle.
Ensure the laptop is turned off.
Unplug the laptop's AC power cable.
Unplug all wires and peripherals. This includes CDs, DVDs, USB sticks, mice, printers, and any other accessories.

    System Recovery
If the System Restore doesn't solve the issue, you could try a System Reset. Resetting your laptop to its original, out-of-the-box state is a great way to eliminate software as a possible cause of the problem. Note that doing a system reset will return the laptop to its default conditions, completely wiping your data. Information on how to perform a system recovery can be found in your user's guide.

I have a MacBook Pro bought in dec 2009. Currently has mountain lion osx installed. Worked like a dream until today. Randomly froze, so I restarted it. To find I got a grey screen. It wouldn't start. Also note my DVD drive doesn't work, but mountain lion was installed via App Store anyway.
So here's what I done so far:
tried resetting PRAM - No success
Done disk utility. Disk verified with no errors. I even re formatted disk. - no success starting.
Tried re installing mountain lion via download . It froze halfway installing -no success.
Tried backing up a time machine backup from my USB hard drive. It froze at 1% - no success
Tried booting from safe mode - no success
Tried the command line boot - no success.
    Please someone help!

Sounds like the hard dre has left the building, Died, in the Sh*tter, Gone to the hard drive resting place in the sky.
Buy a new drive connect it to the system with a SATA to USB adapter and see if you can install Mt Lion on that drive connected externally. If you can then the drive inside your system has failed.
Oh Wait!!!! You have the 2009 model. They are known for bad drive to logic board cables. So it may not be the drive itself but the cable going from the drive to the logic board. Do the same as above then if the system runs OK with the new drive connected externally install it in the system and see if it boots. If it does you are good to go. If it doesn't then it is more then likely the cable that hs failed.
I would suggest you also SAVE a copy of that download of Mt Lion and create a USB install drive from it using Lion Disk Maker, once you get your system up and running.
