Sad face for 4th gen classic, fixed some how???

so my ipod classic just stop working and went sad face on me, so i read and tried everything. from what i read its screwed, so i tried to open it up and see, while opening it up from near the plug in with a knife, it just turned on and startd working agin after sticking the knife inside. any idea what i might have done?

Hard to say for sure. You could have wiggled a loose ribbon back into place or nicked something just hard enough to spring it back to life.  There are a number of possibilities. Glad to hear you have it back up and running though!

  • ITouch 4th Gen, crashes almost daily, how do I fix it?

Ok, a month ago the iTouch started to act up, when iOS 5 was released.  Clearly it is a software issue.  At that time, I came to this site because it would not start, it kept the apple logo up.  I eventually used the white apple PC connection cord and did a restore of the product.  It wiped everything clean and re-installed everything as I had it upon my last backup.  At first it was a decent fix.  Then, a week or so later it crashed again, but this time, only while using certain apps.  (Pocket Frogs, Diner Dash, Mail and Safari).  During this time, it would simply restart the iTouch, so I thought nothing of it.  A few days later, it did the same as before and crashed without being able to restart.  So I did the same process again.  It worked, but from this point on, it crashed and would need to be restored about every other day I used it.  I ended up restoring it almost daily for the past couple weeks.  I eventually tried to not even use my backup again, in case the issue were the files I had.  However, it still continued the same process.  Now, within the past few days, I keep on getting errors when attempting to restore my iTouch like before.  I have updated the new iTunes, I have restarted the computer, drained the battery of the iTouch, etc.  Every time it gives me a random error from a security issue, to wrong mac address, to a bad USB connection, to not even seeing the iTouch in iTunes.  I have evern attempted to fiddle with the options in iTunes, to avoid downloading the latest version of iOS for the iTouch, and it will not allow me to go back to the older version for some reason.  I can only get the latest iOS when restoring it.
The questions I have are: is there anything else I can do, instead of doing the same thing again and again in hope it will work again sometime, as well as is there anything I can do to prevent it from crashing once again?  Is this a iOS problem that they are planning to work out the kinks for 4th Gen iTouch/iPhones?  (I have been having a hard time finding any information about this issue outside the fact that more than one person has had this issue).  And, can I restore the iOS software to the original without an automatic update with the latest iOS?
    Thanks in advance!

Ok, I have done the system restore process, aka the holding of the power and home button.  That is in fact what I have been doing all this time.  I have gone through the troubleshooting guide and updated Windows, iTunes, restart my computer, changed USB links, wait until the battery died to restore, wiped the backup off completely, and reinstalled the iOS with the backups (Both from before the issue arose and well after).  It started off slow, but now it has become more frequent to the point that as of today, it won't even let me complete a system reset/restore.  I cannot access the iTouch browser as it is stuck in system restore mode.  It has given me many difference reasons as to why the install has failed, including:  9, 14, 21, 28,   All on this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1275
When it does fall it usually crashes halfway through the installation, goes white screen and restarts system restore mode to have me go through the process all over again.  Then, provides me with one of the above reasons, and usually changes the number every attempt.  I will troubleshoot more, but that is about all I have done at the moment.  I am going to try another computer soon to see if I get any better results.

  • My 4th gen classic makes a continuous whirring and clicking noise and is not recognised on iTunes.  Any ideas?

My 4th gen classic makes a continuous whirring and clicking noise and is not recognised on iTunes.  Any ideas?

That could be a clear sign of a damaged hard disk.  Can you try and force the iPod into Disk Mode and then connect it to iTunes so you can attempt a restore or even a low level reformat of the iPod's HD/file system.

. As Apple said in June, iOS 7 is not compatible with the 4G iPod.
All the iOS devices compatible (iPhone 4 and later, iPad 2 and later, and 5G iPod touch) with iOS 7 have at least 512 MB of memory (RAM). The 4G iPod only has 256 MB

  • For the iPod Classic, in settings, how does the volume limit work? After setting a limit, how to re-set to a new volume limit?

This thread - with a quote from an LR4 Beta thread - says that all 6 central Basic controls in PV2012 (Exposure thru Blacks) are now image-adaptive, as were Recovery, Fill Light, and Clarity in previous versions:

Whether they are suitable for creating a Timelapse sequence without significant flicker is entirely subjective and up to you - and of course, dependant on your specific images & how they change over time.  Sorry, not much advice beyond try PV2012, and revert back to PV2010 if you get too much flicker.

  • How to set up iMessage for 4th gen. touch

I'm trying to set up iMessage for my son on his touch 4th gen. He has a gmail acct. I went to settings-messages, logged in with my apple ID, but how do I get his email acct. to be listed  amongst one to select? (listed are all the numbers/emails under my apple id).
How do I add his email to my apple ID?  I did this for my daughter's itouch (4th gen), quite some time ago and don't recall having any trouble.  I can't remember how I did it!

Go to Settings > Messages > Send & Recieve > Add Another Email. Verify it by signing into your son's email account and following the instructions there.

  • My 4th gen classic wont unlock.  reset doesnt work any help

my 4th gen ipod classic will not unlock.  Reset and restore does not work.  Any suggestions?

I assume you mean the lock switch seems to be stuck in the On position whether or not it's toggle Off or not?
If a restore of the iPod to factory settings doesn't resolve the issue, it's likely a good indication of a faulty/damaged lock switch meaning you'll need to either take or send your iPod in for service. You can choose to have Apple do an out of warranty exchange (unless your iPod is still under the 1 year warranty against manufacturing defects and they deem the issue a defect in which case they will swap it out for you at no cost) or send it to a third party service who can replace the faulty part for a little less.

  • IPod Lyrics for 4th Gen

Will Apple update the firmware for iPod 4th Gen and older to support lyrics?
It shouldn't be too hard, do you think the next update will have it?

  • Ipod 4th gen screen fix

Hi my ipod  4th gen stopped this murning. The screen was like an old crt tv on channel 3 all fuzzzy and stuff please help!!1

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
    or
    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • 4th Gen Classic in Restart Loop

    Greetings,
I have a 4th generation classic, 60gb iPod stuck in a continuous restart loop.
I've been able to put it into disk mode and it is recognizable by iTunes where I did a restore to it after which it went back into a restart loop again. I then put it back into disk mode and erased said iPod with Disk Repair and did a zero out on the drive. Restored again via iTunes and, after resetting, has refused to come out of its restart loop.
I can load music onto it and everything but use it as an actual iPod.
Is this the logic board needing a replace or is there something else I can do?

    A. I've done a restore 3 times and it still does the restart loop as well as after a full wipe via Disc Repair. Aka, then it must not be a software problem
    B. I can ONLY get it recognized on my computer in disk mode. Aka I can not use it as an ipod to play music as it refuses to load up out side of disk mode. It falls right into the restart loop after a soft reset.
Fortunately, I've been able to get all of my music files backed up from the disk mode.

Necesito una solucion para esto sin tener que cambiar todo el sistema OK

  • Ipad 3rd Gen exchanged for 4th Gen for very recent customers

I bought my Ipad 3rd gen on the 27th Sep, and I have been hearing stories that people who are within 30 days of purchasing the 3rd Gen can get it exchanged for the 4th Generation. Has someone here actually got it done?

Some have said so. Your best bet is to call your local apple store and talk to them and see what they'll do for you. The 30 day exchange seems to not be a 'company wide widely announced' thing, rather a store by store basis.
Also, people that bought their iPad from corporate stores seem to have different experiences than those that buy them from authorized outlets, which often have different return policies.

  • Forgot passcode for 4th Gen. tried to restore but iTunes says (No internet...) s

Hi, recently I changed my passcode to something that is pretty  close to my old passcode (since my friend found out the old one) and a few minutes ago it worked when I needed to use my iTouch for something (with the new passcode), but right now it isn't after multiple attempts to unlock it. So, I decided to restore it on iTunes, but it comes up with a message saying "The iPod Software update server could not be connected..." I know that my internet is working fine since I'm able to use it right now, and I looked at other posts on this forum with the same connection problem. (People suggested going to Network options --> Connections Tab --> LAN Settings --> and then checking "Allow detecting settings." Some people said that it worked for them but for most it didn't (including me). I couldn't find any other answers so I decided to post this. I don't know any other way to unlock my iPod Touch 4th Generation other than restoring it.

Tried it all. Even went to the troubleshooting link at the bottom of it. No solutions there either. And I installed iTunes onto my moms laptop and activated that but it required a passcode to connect my iTouch to that iTunes on there so that was going nowhere...

  • Help to Diagnose Blank, White Screen for 4th Gen iPod

Can you help me diagnose my problem? Fully charged Ipod Gen 4 syncs and plays music, but I can’t navigate due to blank, white screen. Reset to original factory settings from iTunes, re synced with no improvement. Doesn’t even show apple or battery icon when charging. Any advice?

So you basically cannot see anything on the screen, because it is all white.
Since it can play music, connect your earphones and let it play continuously until it runs out of power and turns off. Keep trying to turn it back on and playing music until it will no longer turn on. Then let it sit disconnected for at least 24 hours.
You are trying to make the battery dead so that the iPod is completely unpowered.
Then connect it to the computer or the power adapter and see if the screen is working again.
Alternately, if you know how to open the iPod with the plastic tools, you can simply disconnect the battery for a few minutes and then reconnect.
There is always the possibility that your iPod's screen has become defective.

  • No autofill option showing for 4th gen IPod on Itunes

When loading 4 gen shuffle (v 1.0.2) from music library on Itunes 12.0.1.26, the "settings" and "autofill" buttons do not show up on the On My Device>Music page. I want to be able to have it autofilled randomly from my music library. Oddly, it loads it randomly by complete album; that is, it loads all the songs on an album, then randomly selects another album and loads all the songs from it, etc., until filled. Any idea what the problem is?

iPod Touches do not have a disk mode.  However, you can se the iPod in Windows explorer in order to move photos from the iPod to your computer.  You probably need to reinstall iTunes and install the unsigned driver.
