Safar - Secure Padlock Icon Missing

I have noticed that when I upgraded to Safari 6 the busy icon and the secure icon seems to have disappeared. Anyone know why or how to get it back???

When I open Gmail in Firefox, the secure (padlock) icon appears only for a few seconds; the connection then recycles and goes to the triangle alert icon.

When I open or refresh Gmail in Firefox, the secure padlock icon appears at first, but within a few seconds the connection then refreshes itself without me opening anything or moving the mouse. The secure icon is then replaced by the alert triangle, which displays a message when I hover over it saying "This website does not supply identity information." I have already changed the Images setting to Ask Before Displaying External Images, but it had no effect on this behavior. This same change happens on other secure websites, but not as consistently it does on Gmail.

If there is mixed passive content (e.g. images) then Firefox shows an exclamation mark instead of "[[Site Identity Button|Site Identity Button]]" (globe/padlock) on the location bar.
You can open the Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) and search for lines with [mixed] to see if that allows to identify the mixed content.

Secure Padlock Icon On Safari

I never noticed this before on the old version of the forums but now I see the padlock icon for a secure site at the top right of the Safari window. Just curious if it was always like this, and if not why is the site set up this way now. Also is this one of the reasons the site is so slow to load anything on an iphone or ipad, or is that a separate issue. It's so tedious now trying to go through the forums on my mobile devices that I've given up trying.

It is because the site is now running via SSL/HTTPS all the time. There is no 'non-secure' option, as far as I can tell, because if you try to open http://discussions..... then you are just redirected to https anyway.

since upgrading to yosemite when making a payment the padlock secure icon has disappeared.
is it secure to make payments without this?

Quit and relaunch Safari. If there's no change, please see below.
Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, or by corruption of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2.

On ffox4 where is padlock icon that denotes secure website

in firefox 3 the padlock icon in lower right hand corner of screen indicated an https web page. in firefox 4 this icon is missing-at least in my installation. is there a way to get this back in ff4?

The "Site Identity button", which provides a lot more pertinent information about a web site, was introduced in Firefox 3, and was used along with the "Security Lock icon"; that "Lock icon" was finally removed from Firefox 4 versions.

On some websites, such as facebook.com, there is a padlock icon on the tab in Safari? What does that indicate?

i had a "padlock" icon which was next to the full screen button at the top right of the safari window which i pressed accidently trying to toggle full screen. So now i can't download using command alt A and on some sites in the URL has the grey on grey https with a padlock icon, Also there use to be a small google search engine next to the big URL space which is missing...I'm sorry if it's a little hard to understand :/

It sounds like you just need to associate the PDF filename extension with Acrobat, rather than Preview. Please see this document from the Microsoft Help for instructions on choosing the default program for opening a particular file type (in your case, PDF): Change which programs Windows uses by default - Windows Help

Help... can't remove red padlock icon on security option

I have a red padlock icon on the security option on my blackberry 8310... i can't disable the password option. Anyone can help me to solve this problem?

as far as I know, u will need to go to the original user and get the IT policy 0'd out. Try and talk to your carrier, they might have an option.

Security padlock missing

The security padlock indicating a secure site no longer appears in my browser. How do I restore this. I found lots of the same questions in your info database, but no answers.

The old Statusbar lock is gone. This extension adds a lock to the Site Identity Button.
