Safari 2.0.3 & Acid Search - It still works - FYI
Just thought I would let fellow Acid Search Users know that Acid Search does still work with the latest Safari...
You need to get rid of the Acid Search Package when installing the latest update (or it crashes Safari), but once the update is up and running, re-install Acid search with the installer package and it works fine - phew.
Being a UK user is drives me nuts that the Google bar defaults to Google USA without Acid Search...no offense to my American cousins but when I am looking for something on the web to buy, I dont want to know how much it costs in Idaho!

Finally, I just got rid of the "com.apple.Safari.plist" preference, rebooted, and everything went back to normal, and it even seemed to have come back with most of my custom preferences intact. hmm.

Safari Won't Open--Acid Search Plug-in Not Found
My Safari has refused to open for quite sometime, but I've just now got around to fixing it. (I guess I'm getting used to Firefox.) Everytime I attempt to open it, the icon bounces on the dock and then says: "The application Safari quit unexpectedly. The problem may have been caused by the AcidSearch plug-in."
I've tried to find the Acid Search plug-in to delete it,
(Home > Library > Application Support > SIMBL
Home > Library > InputManagers > SIMBL)
but there's nothing in these folders. I attempted to download the Acid Search installer, but I couldn't figure out how to uninstall it. After reinstalling the Acid Search, I still couldn't find the plug-in on my computer.
I'm at a loss for what to do next to get rid of Acid Search! Please help!

Safari won't launch problem with Acid Search plug-in
I have not used Safari for over a year (I have been using Firefox). The error message states: "The application Safari quit unexpectedly. The problem may have been caused by the AcidSearch plug-in."

Uninstall the Acid Search plugin.
Go here for trouble shooting 3rd party plugins or input managers which might be causing the problem.
Safari: Add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
Make sure Safari is not running in Rosetta. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle so it faces down. Where you see Open using Rosetta... make sure that is NOT selected.
If you uninstall that plugin and Safari still crashes, copy/paste a crash log here so we can get a better idea of what's going on. Open Safari. When it quits, select "report".. The Crash Report will shortly appear. Copy/paste the entire crash report when you reply. If necessary you can find a crash report here...
How to locate a crash log:
1. Open Finder.
2. Click "Go" in the menu, then select "Go to Folder".
3. Copy and paste this path into the Finder dialog: ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/
4. Click the Go button.
5. Finder opens the folder containing the crash log. Look for a the crash file with a date field that looks *like the most recent.*

Safari 3.0.4 address & search dead
I have uninstalled all the 3rd party plug-ins that were causing problems (and boy do I miss the functionality provided by Safari Enhancer and Acid Search!) but the address bar and search bar still do not work at all. When I enter text there & hit return, absolutely nothing happens. Bad enough I can't use my old keywords in the address bar, but to have it not functioning at all is unacceptable, especially with the Search bar also not functioning.
This is no longer beta? Really?!?I've already found the quick & dirty version of the one that seems to matter most to me, Sogudi (http://www.kitzkikz.com/SogudiBeta). Funny thing is, before now I didn't even realize that that's what was responsible for the keywords. I'd added so many "Pimp My Safari" extras at once, I'd forgotten about that one.

youtube is crashing my browser - both firefox mozilla and safari. Now I cannot load firefox browser at all, but safari still works - except for youtube, which immediately crashes it....any ideas, anyone?
I have had a similar problem with my system. I just recently (within a week of this post) built a brand new desktop. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Home and had a clean install, no problems. Using IE downloaded an anti-virus program, and then, because it was the latest version, downloaded and installed Firefox 4.0. As I began to search the internet for other programs to install after about maybe 10-15 minutes my computer crashes. Blank screen (yet monitor was still receiving a signal from computer) and completely frozen (couldn't even change the caps and num lock on keyboard). I thought I perhaps forgot to reboot after an update so I did a manual reboot and it started up fine.
When ever I got on the internet (still using firefox) it would crash after anywhere between 5-15 minutes. Since I've had good experience with FF in the past I thought it must be either the drivers or a hardware problem. So in-between crashes I updated all the drivers. Still had the same problem. Took the computer to a friend who knows more about computers than I do, made sure all the drivers were updated, same problem. We thought that it might be a hardware problem (bad video card, chipset, overheating issues, etc.), but after my friend played around with my computer for a day he found that when he didn't start FF at all it worked fine, even after watching a movie, or going through a playlist on Youtube.
At the time of this posting I'm going to try to uninstall FF 4.0 and download and install FF 3.6.16 which is currently on my laptop and works like a dream. Hopefully that will do the trick, because I love using FF and would hate to have to switch to another browser. Hopefully Mozilla will work out the kinks with FF 4 so I can continue to use it.
I apologize for the lengthy post. Any feedback would be appreciated, but is not necessary. I will try and post back after I try FF 3.16.6. -
Highlight text and drag over Safari icon to start a search
A few years back, it was possible in Safari to highlight text and drag and drop it over the Safari icon to instantly start a Google or Yahoo search. That no longer seems to work. Now, I'm running Snow Leopard with the newest version of Safari. Back then, I was probably still on Tiger and whatever the current version of Safari was at the time.
Does anyone know if it's possible to restore that old feature to drag and drop text of the Safari icon to start a search?Nobody knows what I'm talking about?

Safari 4.0 won't load due to Acid Search, a useless plugin from last year that I never should have loaded. There is no uninstaller, and all Spotlight can find is the installer. How do I get rid of this plugin?

My Spotlight Dropdown is not dropping down!!! Any clues???I think I've slightly misunderstood what you are trying to do. In Safari Full Screen you don't normally see the menu options because you are concentrating on Safari. Are you typing in this box?
If so that's the not the Spotlight box. To get to Spotlight you need to move the mouse to the top of the screen to get the usual menus appearing then you can use Spotlight:
You can tell you are still in Full Screen because the blue icon is for escaping Full Screen. To the left of that is the icon for Spotlight (a magnifying glass?) and it's the same as the Google search bar.

Guess they're not updating Acid Search. It caused problems for me in Safari 3.2 anyway BUT I DO NOT WANT GOOGLE!
Google indexes (captures) web pages with google ads, then when you search for something you get a result based on not only the page content but the google ad... I prefer Yahoo, but Safari for some unknown reason (unless its payola) only offers google search... competition is good.Hi Krag

I just updated my iPhone 6 to IOS 8.3. My safari will not let me search anything. If I type in a website URL, the Go button is greyed out. If I type in something to search on google, I press Go and nothing happens. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Safari Reset, cookies cleared, but I'm still auto-logged in on a forum?
I've noticed on a few forums I use that despite clearing the cookies from Safari manually or just resetting it with all options checked, even though it shows that there are no cookies set in preferences after these operations I'm still being auto-logged into some of forums. This is Safari on 10.5 Leopard.
The login data for these forums is definitely cookie based as well because I've tried visiting them with Firefox on my Windows machine, logging in with "keep me logged in" checked, and then reset Firefox. Sure enough revisiting the sites shows me as logged out.
Not only that but Safari on my iMac which is running Tiger works as expected on the same sites. Its just Safari on Leopard that is apparently ignoring my reset command?Well I assumed I had been, I was using the "Reset Safari" menu option and one of the selections is to clear the cache and it is selected.
I have been trying this now since I posted and it looks like I've sort of worked it out now though. I tend to reset safari then instantly quit the app with Command+Q. It seems like when I was doing that I managed to do it so fast the reset command wasn't completing before the app quit, meaning some cookies/cache/whatever remained intact.
I used reset and let it sit their open on a blank page for ten seconds before I quit and when I restarted it I was no long auto-logged in to the websites. I can only assume therefore this was the problem, although, I didn't think I was that quick at quitting the app? -
My Google search autocomplete me in Firefox does not work anymore. However, it still works with Internet Explorer. How can I fix this so Google gives me search suggestions again?
Solution update: Disabled XULRunner 1.9.1 extension from Add-ons > Extensions. Problem solved.
